Installation :: Upgrade Ready To Be Installed Never Requested
Oct 15, 2015
I have Windows 7 Pro 64bit on a desktop and I have never requested the W10 upgrade. Two days ago when I went to Windows update I got a surprise. The screen below showed up!
My update options was changed to automatic from notify me and I can't install some real W7 updates waiting in the wings.
I worked with Microsoft Support for 2 hours yesterday evening and nothing has really changed. The Get Windows 10 app KB3035583 was uninstalled and so was KB2952664. How to get the Windows Update screen back to allowing other updates. I'd like to be able to put the waiting updates on and put W10 on sometime later this year. I don't understand why I am being forced to do the upgrade.

I did an Upgrade from W7 Pro 64 bit to Windows 10 and it worked fine but the three printers attached to the computer no longer work. The print Spooler is stopped and all efforts to restart it fail with Error 0x80070057 "Incorrect parameter".

I am not sure I want to install just yet, there are some issues I need to check on first so I need to delay the install.
Is there an option to cancel without removing the download or is the only option to not accept the EULA and would this cause problems later when I have decided to upgrade?
My main concern is that as I have used CCleaner and Disk Cleaner since installing W7 around 5 years ago. Will W10 be able to revert back to W7 or will the installation files have been removed in which case reverting back may not be possible?

How do I fix this problem with this message error that comes up at start up that says, "There is no email associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program, or if one is already installed, go to the Default Programs control panel."

I was having an issue connecting wo something I had in the and think it was a java issue (it works fine on my desktop, not so much on my laptop and I'm not even sure java is on my desktop). I know it installs what it needs when I connect, so I figured I'd uninstall Java and let it set up again when I connected. I uninstalled everything Java from my laptop and restarted, and now it's been sitting on the screen that says "Getting Windows ready Don't turn off your computer" for quite some time.
I'm wondering how long it might normally stay like this vs when I should start to panic, and what to do if it never restarts.

My computer was on sleep mode and my sister plugged it off. I restarted my computer to see that an error message said " you pc needs ti be repaired " and something abour rhe boot configuration data being missing. So i researched and found a tutorial on how to fix the bcd. i typed "bootrec rebuildbcd" on cmd from the windows recovery media advanced options and came up with
"Scanning all disks for Windows installations. Please wait, since this may take a while... Successfully scanned Windows installations. Total identified Windows installations: 1 [1] D:Windows Add installation to boot list? Yes<Y>/No<N>/All<A>:"
I typed in "yes" however it said "the requested system device cannot be found."

Can't find System & Security in Win10. I'm sure it's there somewhere; but it didn't automatically back up since I installed the upgrade.

I've connected the Mail app to my Gmail account. It can access my mail without problem but when I try and open an email I get the following message. There is insufficient memory or disk space. Outlook cannot display the requested font. This only happens on the first email selected.
The email is displayed but most of the text is missing. Images are displayed and text which I am guessing does not use default values e.g. different font and possibly style.

if my language settings are USA, then search in Settings works. But if I change the display language to British English, I get the well-known "Search results aren't quite ready yet, but we're working on getting them together".Cortana search works (although I may be prompted to set language when changing language as above).
I have tried to find every case where language settings need to be changed to British English, and downloaded UK language packs and speech. Even when everything I can find is set to UK English, search in Settings fails. However, if I revert to US English, it works.I have read fixes about turning Cortana off and reinstalling apps - but this is usually where both Cortana isn't working and this message appears. This does not seem to apply in my case, and surely it should not be necessary to do that merely to support changing language.

After updating my trusty 7 rig, I find that my homegroup has been ruined. My "old" home group is still being advertised as ready to join, but when I try to connect (from the same box it was created on with W7) it ultimately says: Windows no longer detects a Homegroup on this network. To create a new homegroup, click OK, and then open HomeGroup from control panel. When I do that, I get right back to the same place.
I have:
Deleted the Appdata under roaming
Started and stopped the homegroup and peer services.
Renamed my PC
I would create a totally new HomeGroup if I could, but I am not given the choice. My next step, once xBox users are off line, is to reset my Router.

I just installed a new SSD (disk 1) on my laptop and used Samsung's tool to clone my OS drive (C: on disk 2) onto it. This was done with no error, however I cannot boot from the new SSD in bios, as this hangs up the computer.
I assume this has to do with C: still being the boot and active partition, and the system partition (also active) being on Disk 0 (HDD).
I attached my disk management screenshot for reference.
How to make my new SSD (disk 1) the boot drive? For info, I do not have a windows OS CD but already created a windows 10 repair disk.

I've just bought a new SSD (Samsung EVO 850 250GB) for my Dell XPS 15 (L521x). After I inserted it into my laptop i intalled Windows 10 Home Pro. The installation process happened without any error, the laptop restarted several times (which is normal during the installation) and then booted to the desktop. again, no error whatsover. now, when i try to turn off or reboot my laptop, it is not able to power off automatically (i've waited for over an hour). so i have to power it off forcefully by pressing the power button for several seconds). if i want to reboot the laptop, it gets stuck at the dell logo, the little circle is spinning but nothing else is happening. i have updated all drivers, tried to boot into safe-mode, nothing worked
The current bios version is up to date (A16), SATA operation mode is AHCI, according to Samsung Magician (which i was able to install) everything is configured correctly.

Got a perfect upgrade from Win7 Pro to Win10 Pro for any programs that were on the boot disk. However any programs that were loaded on a second (non-bootable) disk were not recognized at all. Is there any way, other than reloading all those programs, to get Win10 Pro to know they are there? I thought this would be caught when the system upgraded but this did not happen. I was trying to keep my boot drive lean and mean.

I have a Acer Aspire XC-603G desktop upgraded to Windows 10 64bit Home (no Hyper-V). I want to run 16 bit software that is incompatible. I would like to dual boot with Vista x86 (gave away my XP). From what I understand, you must load the older version first due to Windows 10's MBR. Can I backup/clone Windows 10 partition, reformat and repartition the HDD, install Vista in first partition, then restore Windows 10 to the second partition? I'm thinking I'll need a fresh Windows 10 install. Or is there a simpler way? The only other way I see is to buy the Pro upgrade to get Hyper-V. And if I did the latter would it really be compatible with my Windows 95 16bit ImageReader Scanner software?

Trying to dual boot build 10130 iso on a fresh install of 8.1. Received a message:"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is not of the GPT partition style"
Laptop is an Asus x550c.
System recovery to Asus factory default.
Asus has a default 4 Partition setup. I added a 5th, Partition 6, by shrinking Partition 4
Looks something like this:
Drive 0 Partition 3 128MB MSR (Reserved)
Drive 0 Partition 4 OS 395GB Primary
Drive 0 Partition 5 451MB Recovery
Drive 0 Partition 6 New Volume 48GB Primary
Drive 0 Partition 7 Restore 20GB Recovery
I'm using the new Build 10130 iso which just came out.I don't want to use a VM like I have on a Desktop.

I keep getting an error when I install Windows 7. I want to install Windows 7 alongside Windows 10. windows cannot be installed to this disk the selected disk is of the gpt partition style
I read solutions to this and most of them write I must format my entire hard drive, but I can't do that because that would mean losing all my data.

What I mean is, if I select to keep my personal files only, will the installed programs be removed completely from my hard drive, or will they be moved to the Windows.Old folder like what happens in Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 ?
Because I would like to have them in the Windows.Old folder in case I might need some of the files there, but I want the installation to be clean as well.

Just upgraded my work pc to windows 10. Haven't gotten to the desktop yet. I cannot no longer log in. It does not recognize my password. This has never happened before. Also, my login prompt under 8.1 was just the password. Now it also presents me with a selection for the user name and another one for the password. Didn't expect that problem. Moreover it does not react to when I request a reboot. (By the way, the pc is independent. It does NOT belong to a domain.)
