I have recently upgrade to Win 10 from windows 7 and it was running fine until it started booting with the analyzing and repairing windows screen. I had tried to get out of it by windows repair and by system restore but there were no points to restore too. I ended up trying the windows reset which failed when I selected to leave my files so then I tried the reset including removing my files. It failed part way through saying it could not complete the action and now when I boot up every time I get "An operating system wasn't found" etc. I do not have a windows CD or know my windows registration number.

i'm having an issue with my laptop, i think it's something called a memory leak because my RAM won't go below 80% even when my laptop is idle. I've been searching the internet for answers on how to fix this problem but didn't find any luck. I've already wasted an entire day trying to figure out how to fix this, I even tried to do a system restore but i forgot to save any restore points. I'm hoping Resetting/Refreshing would be the answer but i'm facing another problem; My media installation tool or USB Bootable Drive (I don't know if they're the same. It's what i used when i installed Windows 10) is that of a previous Windows 10 version & build. Would it work If i use it to Reset my laptop? I'm currently using the latest version, build 10586.36.

I upgraded my Windows 7 Home Basic to Windows 10 yesterday. It was successfully activated. I loved the UI and animation.But I could not sign into my Microsoft account, hence could not use Cortana or sign into store. I got "Something went wrong" error all the time. Multiple reboots did not solve the issue.I decided to reset my PC completely and proceeded without keeping anything though it warned me "This might take several hours". My PC got stuck at 99% for like 4-6 hours. I kept it at that stage the whole night.
When I woke up this morning and saw, my PC had a blue screen error saying "We will restart your PC INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE". This error is existing after multiple reboots also.
The two options I can think off:
1. Rebuild my Windows 7 all over again and upgrade to Windows 10 (I am afraid it may not solve the problem).
2. Do a clean install of Windows 10.
I don't want to do the first. Is there anyway I can claim the same license that I already have for Windows 7 in second scenario? I don't mind losing the existing Windows 7 license if I get one for Windows 10.

I downloaded Windows 10 on July 29th, and decided to upgrade instead of doing a fresh install of Windows 10. However, I realized that many of my old programs from Windows 7 are not compatible, so today I decided to finally do a fresh install of Windows. The reset was stuck at 1% for about 20 minutes, and now it's been stuck at 2% for over an hour.

I've been running Windows 10 since it was released and nothing really has come up as a problem until last night, I was playing a game on the pc and I got some red dots everywhere, I figured nvidia crashed and thought nothing of it until my entire pc reset now I see a series of white dots on bios loadup and windows loads and just before it gets to the login, my computer resets. When it tries to get into repair mode I don't have any keyboard or mouse input, this is a build I made so I don't have any fancy oem recovery options ( and I was too dumb to make a backup disk).
My build has an nvidia gtx590 , and phenom II black edition, Asus mobo. I haven't d.l or installed any new hardware or software recently.

My Samsung Activ9 came with windows 8 preinstalled, to upgrade it to 8.1 I had to manually install every windows update by hand and some had to be installed before the others, so hundreds of individual updates had to be done which took me all day.
I upgraded to windows 8.1 eventually and thought 'excellent, no more manually installing updates as recovering my system would mean starting with a fresh copy of windows 8.1 right? Nope, i few months ago I had need to recover my notebook to factory defaults and when it was finished it booted into.. yep, windows 8, so again I had to do the individual update thingy.
Will this upgrade to windows 10 mean that should the worst happen and I need to factory reset again, that windows 10 will be the default OS?

I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 a little over a week ago, and was experiencing a few issues, so I decided to do a reset, choosing the option to keep files yet remove apps and settings. The reset reached 100% and the PC restarted, but I got an "invalid boot device" error saying that the system must restart. After restarting, all that appears is a black screen, with no options available. I've tried numerous keys but nothing happens. The computer just sits on a blank screen.
I have a Gateway SX2110-UB25 that is merely two years old, that came with Windows 8 but upgraded to 8.1 prior to upgrading to 10.

I had updated my Windows 7 to Windows 10 first and then wanted to do a clean upgrade. I followed the instructions but my computer seemed to be stuck on 'Resetting this PC at 1%' my laptop must have died during this and now every time I try to start up my laptop it gets to the load screen and then goes to black and then tries to reboot again. I'm lost at the moment.

My Windows' acting up, tried every trick in the book to fix it and no dice, so I'm taking the easy yet bothersome route of reinstalling everything. Again.
But Windows 10 has a "Reset this PC" option under Settings > Update & Security > Recovery (screen cap for clarity) which in practical effects, it's what I need, but faster and less bothersome.
Problem is, I have more than one (physical) hard drive on my system, and I don't know if Windows will restrain itself to formatting the system drive or if it'll format all drives present.
And I'd rather ask a relatively dumb question than risk losing all my backed up data XP.

When Windows 10 is functioning normally, you can hold the Windows/Start-key down and press the arrow keys to move and resize the active window.
(i.e. Start-key + left moves the window to the left half of your screen;
Start-key + right moves the window to the right half of your screen;
Start-key + up maximizes the window to the full screen;
Start-key + down minimizes the window to the taskbar)

I thought all my Windows 10 problems were resolved when I finally figured out that Avanquest Powerdesk was preventing explorer from loading the desktop but it seems that was just the beginning of my Win 10 problems.
Once I finally got the desktop to load I then discovered that the start button isn't working, the search bar isn't working, most of the programs that should be in the task bar are not loading, Avast antivirus wasn't running and that the uninstall option in the control panel doesn't work.
Having seen that avast is one possible cause for the start button not working and having tried every other way of fixing the start button that I could find I decided to delete Avast. Because of the uninstall button not working I had to do it the same way I had removed powerdesk - delete the files first and then run cccleaner to clean up the registry entries.
It was when trying to reinstall Avast that I noticed that the install wouldn't run because the Base Filtering Engine Service is failing to start. As so many other services are dependent on that one I suspect that as being a possible cause of all of the other issues (for example none of the security apart from Comodo firewall is running because it is all dependent on this service).
The message in the event viewer appears to indicate that the service does not have sufficient access to be able to run.

The windows defender in my pc is disabled and isn't starting up. It just shows that the app is turned off and isnt monitoring your system. The windows security center is also disabled. I tried manually enabling it from the services app and it got enabled but it gets disabled after sometimes itself.
I have tried booting into safe mode to enable the defender but no luck. i alos dont have any other AV instaleed on my pc that might be clashing with my defender. I also did an integrity check using /sfc code in command prompt and it returned no errors.

So I've gotten fed up enough with the terrible windows search system.
I went into services.msc and disabled the windows search service; then restarted my computer.
However, "Cortana" is still listed in my task manager taking up 50mb of memory.
How do I kill Cortana?

My touch screen randomly won't work, only to find that it's disabled in Device Manager. "USB Input Device" is what it shows up as. I believe it's a software I have installed that may be interfering.

I have the BIOS setting to auto power on every day at a designated time. It has worked with a dual boot Win 7/8.1 system. However, since upgrading the Win 8.1 to Win 10 (dual boot Win 7/10) it no longer powers on at the designated time. Its still set up correctly in the BIOS.
This is apparently not the "fast boot" option that was in Win 8.1 as I can access the BIOS on power on (couldn't with the Win 8 fast boot).

When I try to turn smart screen on, the options are greyed out, and I am told that "this setting is managed by your system administrator". I tried running the reg file "Set_SmartScreen_to_get_administrator_approval.reg" but it didn't change anything.

1) I disabled Windows Update in Services to avoid having to deal with the updates. Later I put it on "manual" instead of "disabled". Today I find that my computer is "installing updates" WITHOUT a) my permission and b) without notifying me that there were updates to install. This thrashed my hard drive with near constant 100% usage from something called Windows Modules Installer Worker. I killed the process, rebooted after some Adobe Reader issue (unrelated....I think). Upon selecting "restart" Windows informs me that it is updating my system WITHOUT my permission. It continues, updates, says finished, restarts to 0%, finishes, reboots.
Upon restart--which takes FOREVER by the way without the "updating" message, when it used to only take a few seconds to boot up--I go to Services where I find Windows Update is set on "running". Even though I manually stopped it, and set it to "manual trigger" start....
2) After restart when I am in Services to kill Windows Update and set to manual--again--I see something called Update Agent, set to run automatically. I do not remember this service from before, and what it does different from Windows Update. I set it on manual as well.
What does Update Agent do differently from Windows Update? They are listed as separate services
What happened to make my computer update without my consent??

So my Laptop ( I have an Inspirion 1564 Windows 10 ) has been having some issues, so I decided to give it a clean slate by having it factory reset. The only problem? It's been stuck at Resetting this PC 25% for the past 5 hours. I'm scared to force reset because I know it'll mess with the computer ...

My computer froze and I restarted it. After I turned it off and started it back up again, it didn't boot into Windows. At first it was giving me a message about inserting the boot media. I reset it again and loaded windows 10 but it went into a "diagnosing your pc" loop where it would sit there for hours not doing anything. I checked in the case to make sure all of the hard drives were connected. But when I went to bios, it said nothing was in the sata slot that my ssd was plugged into. I restarted again and was met with the same problem. I read that I would have to reset the pc. So I started the process and it is on hanging at "resetting this pc 8%" and has been there for roughly 20 hours. I don't know what I should do as a next step.

ASRock extreme 4

I have attempted to download windows 10 around 4/5 times, the download completes and states that my computer needs to restart upon which it claims it is configuring the windows 10 upgrade. I would assume from this point it would restart into the windows 10 configuration however each time I have tried it it restarts back into windows 8 as if nothing had happened.
My laptop then opens up windows update and says I am able to download windows 10. This is really frustrating as I can't even seem to get into the windows 10 setup.
As you can see I am attempting to download again but there is no trace at all of it attempting to install windows other than this failed update that you can see here.
I am using an HP Pavillion 15-n268a laptop.

Is it possible to reset the win 10 start menu to the day I installed win 10? I'm having all kind of little issues with it now that I didn't before and I'd like to reset.
I know there was a method to do this in the preview builds but that doesn't seem to work anymore.
