Installation :: Windows Two Options On Start Up
Sep 8, 2015
I have installed win10 on to my Brothers PC and kept getting the message `Inaccessible Boot Device` and was caught in a loop. I then downloaded the iso file on to a disc and re-installed successfully from there. However when we switch on the PC I get a screen which shows two boxes, One reads Win10 and the other Windows. When I click on Win10 the OS loads. How do I remove the other box?. I have installed Win10 on two other PC`s and have not seen this screen before.

My windows 10 left click menu doesn't bring up the menu tray anymore since after I shut down my system using the alt+f4 combination keys. Likewise, neither the running apps tray nor the network one opens up on left click. I also cannot multitask anymore as I can only open one folder, seeing as the non functionality of the left click options limits my ability to. I've had these exact issues before which forced me to reinstall the OS from scratch. But I can't always install the software as it requires time and some backing up.

I went threw all the options I could find. I want the viewer to show pictures like I have them in folder groups not by the date they where downloaded or taking. Is there a way? Its either collection or albums but both are by dates and that not what I want. If not then I will just delete it from the menu.

Using Win 10 Pro 64-bit. Under Windows Update advanced options --> Choose how updates are installed, the options drop down box is greyed out. I've tried all three (enable, disable, not configured) local group policy options for windows updates (with reboot each time) but the option I mentioned above stays grayed out. I'd like to know how it can be un-greyed out. It also says "some settings are managed by your organization" in red font under the wind update advanced options.

Have been running Windows 10 on a Packard Bell laptop since August and suddenly the login screen password box is disabled on start up. None of the sign in screen options (power options, language, etc.) are enabled. I can't get to any safe mode boot options either so at the moment I'm stuck.

Even though my computer worked fine before I left for my vacation, I still saw the following screen after I returned immediately when I turned it on.
I put in my windows 10 installation usb drive and press F12 for the boot menu. And this screen comes up.
I choose the bottom one(the windows 10 installation usb drive) and the following error screen comes up.
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disc & reboot.
2. Choose language and click next.
3. Click "Repair your computer".
If you don't have this disc, contact your system administrator or manufacturer for assistance.
File: EFIMicrosoftBootBCD
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors.
it says insert the installation media when I already have it inserted! What do I do to start windows again?

My current Intel i7 4770K desktop is running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit with Windows Media Center (WMC), which is not available on Windows 10. Since I'm planning to upgrade to Win 10 Pro, I'm concerned that Microsoft's offering of Windows DVD Player won't have equivalent functionality to that of WMC.

I am trying to have my computer boot Linux by default, from an external hard drive, while my internal drive has Windows 10 on it. Unfortunately I cannot get it to work: Windows 10 boots automatically at every restart and cold start.
Steps I've taken so far:
The boot order I want is set and saved in BIOS. There's no uEFI on my computer.
Windows 10 fast startup option is disabled. I also disabled the hibernation option just in case.
Still, I can only get Linux to boot by going into BIOS every time and selecting the (already selected) external hard drive again. When I then try to mount the internal (Win 10) disk from within Linux, I get an error saying it cannot be mounted because Windows 10 is still using it.
how to solve this and give full boot control back to BIOS?

When I try to turn smart screen on, the options are greyed out, and I am told that "this setting is managed by your system administrator". I tried running the reg file "Set_SmartScreen_to_get_administrator_approval.reg" but it didn't change anything.

I like to sort some of my folders by date and for some reason I can't understand, when I open an image with WPV, it gets sorted by name instead of date (the folder remains the same, it's just the WPV that screws everything). If I wanted to see whatever I have inside the folder by name, I would just sort it by name for god's sake.

New Dell XPS8700. Upgraded from Win 8.1 to Windows 10 and worked fine for about a month.
On start-up, it now hangs on the Dell logo or when trying boot options to start from USB or recovery DVD go to blank black screen. Dell phone support sucked but they sent me a recovery USB drive (to factory set Win 8.1), however start-up would still hang at the Dell logo. Tried all different boot combinations from CD/DVD, USB, OS/Boot partition but cannot proceed beyond Dell logo or black/blank screen. I do not have a original Windows 10 OS disc, however did a download from
HTML Code: [URL] .... to USB and PC does not boot up from that media either.
Used an original Windows 7 Ultimate installation CD to start and get to command prompt to recover files from C: drive and can browse through all folders and files. Copied user data to USB drive. So HDD appears OK.

I have attempted to download windows 10 around 4/5 times, the download completes and states that my computer needs to restart upon which it claims it is configuring the windows 10 upgrade. I would assume from this point it would restart into the windows 10 configuration however each time I have tried it it restarts back into windows 8 as if nothing had happened.
My laptop then opens up windows update and says I am able to download windows 10. This is really frustrating as I can't even seem to get into the windows 10 setup.
As you can see I am attempting to download again but there is no trace at all of it attempting to install windows other than this failed update that you can see here.
I am using an HP Pavillion 15-n268a laptop.

Before installing Windows 10 I clean reinstalled my Windows 7 onto a new SSD but inadvertently left my BIOS boot drive as my old HDD. Now I find that I have my windows 10 boot files in the HDD and the rest of the OS on the SSD, so I am still dependant on that old HDD. It's quite old, and I tried to swap it out to a new HDD but found this issue.
I've tried BootRec /RebuildBcd, BootRec /FixMbr and BootRec /FixBoot, rebooting the PC between each, but without success. I want to make the SSD bootable, what have I missed?

The Get Windows 10 app started up while I was writing this post!
I have been preparing one of my office PCs for an upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 10.
When KB3035583 and the rest of the preparatory updates came out last summer I hid them - on all PCs.
One every other PC I restored these updates on and installed, the Get Windows 10 app started right up.
But on this PC (the one in my System Specs) after restoring all the updates and installing them, the Get Windows 10 app does not start.
Using the MS fix to diagnose the app returns the error: "Unsupported Version" > Details: "Windows is not up to date". Checking Windows Update yields nothing new to install.
(Windows 7 Home was installed first on this PC from a 3-license retail disk, activated, and legitimate. It has never been reinstalled on this PC)

What I'm expecting:
What I get:
I just discover that my recovery options have disappeared, leaving me with the only option to Turn Off my PC instead of the usual "Reset your PC or see advanced options". I enclove two snapshots: One with the expected screen, the other one with the actual screen I got each time I invoque the Windows 10 recovery.
I have no clue whatsoever about how to fix that. My recovery partition is present as well as the EFI partition. Except for this problem my PC is working fine.

I click on the "get windows10" icon and it tells me that every thing is ready to install. So I click on " OK, lets continue" ...
A new window opens telling me "working on it" I had this run for 30 minutes and nothing changes.
I rebooted and started again, same results. I tried this several times, no joy. What am I missing?

I am trying to update to Windows 10 on a laptop currently running Windows 7. The problem is that the initial "10 second" prep has been showing "working on it" for over 4 hours. I have tried rebooting and starting the update again but it still doesn't get any further than the "working on it" screen.

After installing the new WIN 10 on my PC I'm having a problem trying to boot up. Windows starts to load but hangs up and I have to shut my computer down and re-start every time. Also every time I wake up the computer from the sleep mode I have to re-start my WIFI connection to get online. I would like to re-install WIN 10 to see if this fixes the problem. I tried to reinstall WIN 7 using the disc but I get an error message that says I can't reinstall my version. Do I need to completely erase my hard drive first?
