Just tried to install the latest W10 as a boot with W7 on SSD , installation failed and now will not complete installation. Will not reboot and reinstall, and prevents access to the BIOS to change boot to CD?Looking at disassembly to remove SSD data cable ( Lian Li Briefcase build complicates everything).
View 9 RepliesI've this issue since I did clean install of Windows 10. It simply don't let me in BIOS menu on tapping the DEL key now and simply continue booting Windows 10. And I could only access BIOS menu when I restart it. And if I again turn it off and then start it then again it simply boot and start Windows 10.
And another weird thing is- if I start my PC when it is off than it boot up too fast, without any issue but if I restart it than it takes more time and the monitor turn off and then on again, you may read more about it here.
PS- Maybe you don't need to know this but I did clean install via pendrive which I made using Refus using the bootable ISO.
My problem is that I can't access UEFI Firmware settings or Boot from USB/DVD in the Advanced startup. They are missing. What can I do? I want to go back to windows 8.1 (Don't have windows.old folder), but it gives me an error when I install it when windows is running. That's why I want to boot from DVD, but I can't.

View 1 RepliesI recently updated my pc to windows 10 and ever since I can't access BIOS because I have no chance to (?) I try pressing F2 and DEL multiple time when starting up but it goes straight to the Windows start up. On Win7 it showed a screen which had some information on it and said "Press F2 to enter BIOS" or something like that and only then it would go to the Windows start up.Maybe I need to re-install BIOS?
View 1 RepliesSo i just finished successfully building my rig, and everything was fine, I got access to my BIOS on my first boot, didn't really fiddle with many of the settings except for the boot priority and the XMP profile. Once I was done I decided to input my windows 10 cd into my optical drive, I pressed the restart button on my case, and now suddenly my mouse and keyboard (both USB) wont work, thus I cant gain access to my bios or start setting up windows. I tried switching the cables to different usb ports (on the mother board and the case ports) and it didn't do anything.
View 1 RepliesHave a Lenovo H420 desktop that was upgraded about 2 months ago. We backed up everything and want to reinstall Windows 7.
But I can find no way to get into the Setup screen. I've gone to Settings, Update & Security, Advanced Startup and Restart Now. But I have no option to Use a Device. If I choose Troubleshoot then Advanced Options, the subsequent screen has no option for UEFI Firmware Settings.
I've disabled Fast Boot through Power Options in the Control Panel, then tried F2 and the Delete key when starting. Nothing...
The fact that I can't do something that was so easy in Windows 7 is enough reason in itself to remove 10. Throw in the fact that the scanner part of my printer no longer works is just icing on the cake. I have the Windows 7 disk. I just can't figure out how to use it.
Is it advisable to set the UEFI BIOS (Asus ROG Hero Maximus VI motherboard) to a factory default settings before installing Windows 10? Or should I at least set the memory "XMP" profile?

View 3 RepliesI've trying to update an Advent netbook to windows 10 from 7. It's been a hassle all the way with hangs on 'checking for updates'. However, I got through that but now it's stuck on 'Get going fast' screen.
I had selected 'use express settings' and now it's stuck on that screen. The mouse still works but nothing happens. I left it on all night. It's still on the 'get going fast' screen.
If I reboot (even remove battery) I get the initial advent boot screen but no bios info. Del, f12, f11, f2 etc do nothing. The blue 'win 10' logo appears briefly then back to the 'get going fast' screen.
I also tried the usb flash drive that had the old os on it but it won't boot from it despite that being the initial boot setting in the bios. Has win 10 bricked my netbook?
Migrated OS 8.1 from HDD to SSD . Migration software installed command line in bios "Boot Manager on Disk 1". If I do a format of SSD will bios revert to original without the reference to disk 1. I intend on doing a clean install of Windows 10 retail version in UEFI mode....
View 2 RepliesI have the BIOS setting to auto power on every day at a designated time. It has worked with a dual boot Win 7/8.1 system. However, since upgrading the Win 8.1 to Win 10 (dual boot Win 7/10) it no longer powers on at the designated time. Its still set up correctly in the BIOS.
This is apparently not the "fast boot" option that was in Win 8.1 as I can access the BIOS on power on (couldn't with the Win 8 fast boot).
I have an old Alienware area 51 which I have upgraded to win10. I have two 500gb sata drives in raid 0 connected via motherboard the raid is via the onboard raid controller. I have installed a new ssd via an add in card. I have installed a clean install of win 10 on the ssd but the bios refuses to boot from this drive it boots from the old drives instead. If the old drives are not connected it boots from the ssd. I can see the ssd as a drive when it boots from the old install. If I select ssd as first boot pirority it still boots from the old raid instead and when I go back into the bios the boot order will be switched around. Wanted to boot with the ssd and leisurely pick through the carcass of the old drives before wiping them eventually.
View 1 RepliesMy wife purchased a Dell 8700 XPS with i7 4790 processor,16GB ram. and Nvidia GeForce GTX 745 4GB and a 2 terabyte hard drive. She also purchased a Kingston HyperX 120 GB SSD. I used a popular software to migrated Windows 8.1 Home to the SSD from the HDD. This seemed to work well but on booting up the system the HDD boots unless I go into the bios and select the SSD in SATA 2 under the DVD reader/burner and select a {boot manager on Disk 1{ which was installed by migration software. I had hoped to format the HDD and use as data disk afterwards.
I noted that some threads mention I should have disconnected HDD when booting from SSD first time which I did not do.It also appears that the OEM partition is still on the HDD. I believe a clean install is required. Will this also remove the > boot manager on disk 1> line in the bios.
I have an HP G42-154CA that I'm trying to get Windows 10 Pro installed on.
I ran into an issue with the installation disc not detecting the hard drive (ie, no hard drive is listed when the screen appears to select the hard drive to install Windows on).
I've tried various drivers (latest from HP and Intel website, OEM OS installation discs etc) with no luck.. at the very least, the Windows 7 driver from HP's website for that laptop should work for installing Windows 7- same results, does not detect hard drive.
At this point I'm wondering if maybe it's a BIOS setting that's causing this? I don't recall changing anything in the BIOS when I last installed Windows (which was v8), but it was awhile ago, so can't be certain.

I recently upgraded to Win 10 on my laptop but it's completely broken. I boot up and sign in ok but then I just get a black screen with a cursor. The only way I can access anything is through the task manager > run new task. I've tried everything but nothing works so I want to rollback to Win 7.
But the problem is that in order to do so I need to access settings which I'm unable to. I can click the link under user controls in control panel but nothing happens. I tried a fix (Settings doesnt launch, or launches the Store instead - Microsoft Community) but it didn't work. There doesn't seem to be any way of accessing it and hence no way of rolling back.
Since i have downloaded 10 i can not access the settings menu .All that happens when i press settings is a white flash and nothing.

I am now offered a login page with a demand for a password which I do not have and which I am not allowed change without a USB flash drive which I don't have. I now have no toolbar with which to access other sites or programmes and am having to write this post on a different laptop.
View 1 RepliesDesktop settings seem to have been totally HOSED UP on build 100130 - Works on some machines but this one - the Task bar won't hide so I can't get access to the SAVE / SAVE AS / CANCEL buttons when doing a download.
I don't want to make text smaller -- it's small enough already --often have problems with tiny text in menus etc --for example Photoshop !)!!!.
My internet worked fine and I didn't do any changes to it up until it stopped working. I've managed to fix the internet access to allow me to access the internet on my laptop through wi-fi but network access still says no internet access. Websites work however ethernet does not work! I can't connect online on my playstation because ethernet doesn't work. I've tried disabling and enabling the ethernet. I checked the cables, I re-installed the drivers and i turned off and on the router more than I could count.
The internet works on my laptop however a connection test on my playstation 3 says obtain ip address succeeded and internet connection failed. So I can't play online. I am absolutely certain the playstation 3 is not fault as I checked vigurously the settings and I've put in the right connections, however it still does not work? Should I buy new cables for the router?
I am trying to get into the bios on my windows 10 system with a hero vii but whenever I restart and then hold del my screens are just black, my pc is running and nothing happens, nothing comes on the screen. If I restart and don't press anything it goes into windows 10 normally.

I have entered BIOS many times but now I can not. Previously, tapping the delete key or F2 on start up would open BIOS. Now it will not I have tried many times. I have tried from restart as well as from shut down. I wish to change the boot order but am stymied.
View 3 RepliesWhen I try to upgrade to Windows, MS says my BIOS is not compatible. I have a Dell Inspiron N5110, purchased in 2011, with a BIOS Version String AO3. Preliminary comments several months ago were that Dell was not going to update that BIOS.
View 2 RepliesUntil I did a Windows 10 fresh install my PC was set in the BIOS (and still remains the same) set to startup the PC at a predetermined time everyday. ASROCK H77. And it did so daily until the Windows 10 Pro install. Did the update first to activate. Then fresh install. Like I said BIOS has not changed. Searched internet multiple ways with no resolve.
