Oct 20, 2015Not sure if it is Windows 10 or Outlook based. When I click on any hyperlink in a message it does not go to the target but to my IE Home page.

View 1 RepliesWhen I create a shortcut to file in Program Files, the target path for that shortcut will be to Program Files (x86), even though the start in path will be correct. Furthermore, even though the target path is incorrect and no icon is displayed for the shortcut, the shortcut still works.Shortcuts to items placed in the Program Files folder by an installer do not have this problem. It is only for files that are manually placed in the Programs Files folder by me the user, i.e. copy and pasted there.
View 3 RepliesI have lots of links after my Windows 10 installation that appear to go nowhere (i.e. Properties shows the the target to be blank). For example File Explorer shows a link "This PC > Pictures > Local Settings" with an empty target field. May these be deleted?
View 2 RepliesFriends, I am running W10.1511.10586.11 and typically use the Outlook 2013 desktop application (part of the MS Office 2013 suite) to view, send, and file email for my primary Yahoo! IMAP account. This application works fairly well, and I really have no complaints. However, I got a little bored last night and decided to explore the Windows Mail/People/Calendar applications, something which I was unfamiliar with until last night. So I set up Mail to bring in a few of my other email accounts (Yahoo!, Outlook.com, Gmail) that I usually just log into those services' online web apps to use, and was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked its clean, simple design. So I figured I'd spend a day using this Mail app rather than the standard Outlook 2013 desktop program.
One of the things I ran into was that I cannot open URLs in any emails. Not even very common ones, such as those to twitter or Facebook. None. The message reads "Unable to open...[insert link here]". I've changed everything I can think of that may cause this behavior (changed the default email to Mail, changed default browser from Firefox to Edge, turned off my anti-virus/firewall and Malwarebytes monitoring). I'm not sure if this is just a "feature" of Mail that needs to be fixed by MS, or some setting on my machine that is causing this.
I can continue to use Outlook and online services, but the convenience of Mail (which seems to do an IMAP sync much faster than Outlook) could eventually draw me in if it eventually matures enough. However, that won't ever happen if I'm not able to traverse hyperlinks.
How it changed, but I want it back to normal where I have to double click to open a file. Everything is now a hyperlink and I use a wireless keyboard with a touchpad rather than a separate mouse and I am constantly opening files by mistake. Even files I place on the desktop are all hyperlinks.
View 3 RepliesI upgraded from 8.1 to 10. Eudora 7 worked fine in 8. However, the problem I'm having is when I click on a hyperlink within a post, a pop-up window appears telling me, "you'll need a new app to open this program." Opening the link within the popup, takes me to the Store where a message says, "Your search for "about" had no results.
View 9 RepliesSet up Windows 10 last week, running IE11 set as the default browser and MS Office 2003 with Outlook set as default email.
All fine to start with, then clicking any hyperlink in an email opens IE on my homepage, not the link target.
Uninstalled and reinstalled MS Office yesterday and all was ok again.
If I set MS Edge as the default browser, all email hyperlinks work ok.
I hardly ever use it, so hadn't noticed until today that my DVD drive has disappeared from Device Manager (no DVD-CD ROMs appear there at all) and I cannot use CDs/DVDs in my PC. I strongly suspect Windows 10 as the culprit. I upgraded from W7 early August. However, I can't seem to find any way to download / install the necessary driver.
I have a custom built PC. What I'm missing is: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22NS40 ATA Device (CD-ROM drive). It appears that this is an LG product. I've checked their website and there only seem to be drivers for (up to) W7 here. If I download the zip file and open it, I get a DriveUpdater dialog box, but it says "can't find target drive" and I cannot therefore update. This link looked promising, but the downloaded DriverToolkitInstaller.exe application triggers my AVG, saying threat detected and removed, and I cannot proceed.
I'm using File History to backup my files to a external drive. This works fine. However, I would like to save a backup copy of my data on 2 different drives. I can't seem to be able to find a way to add more than 1 target backup drive in the settings. Is it at all possible to add multiple target drives to File History?
View 2 RepliesI've recently been changing the target locations of some user folder (documents, pictures, videos, music) and seem to have messed something up during the process.
My 'Pictures' folder is now called 'Videos' and I can't rename it back to Pictures again. This is because its a user folder or 'shell' folder I've read. How to change it back?

In my desktop I have two hard disks ( disk 0 and disk 1 ) . Disk 1 is a clone of disk 0 created by Macrium Reflect
Disk 0 : ( C: ) windows 10 pro , upgrade from windows 7 , ( E: ) windows 8.1 pro , ( G: ) Storage partition
Disk 1 : clone of disk 0
problem description : I see in msconfig / boot a wrong listing
windows 10 ( C:WINDOWS) : Current OS ; Default OS
windows 8.1 pro ( H:WINDOWS ) instead of ( E:WINDOWS )
Nevertheless the dual booting works fine as well as the shift between the disks via BIOS.
The question is , could I fix the situation using the EasyBCD of Neosmart Technologies to edit the bootloader ?
I see can change drive letter H: to E: and save the change , am I right or wrong ? or any other way ....
Since installing Win10 I can't get 2003 Office Word to work. It won't make links for email and web addresses, the wrong toolbars come up again and again, and it generally doesn't work. I have tried with two different 2003 Office programmes, re-installing, but no luck.
View 9 RepliesI am a graphic designer, so I have to use helvetica, however, with windows 10 there is an issue. Some sites that use helvetica end up picking a weird version of it. One of them being paypal, uses this awful Helvetica thin compressed.
There are other sites too. Some use a Helvetica heavy oblique. The weird thing is the website itself doesn't use that specific Helvetica font.
My taskbar icons are suddenly showing the wrong app. This is a screenshot the taskbar with an open a PDF, it is showing the icon for Photoshop:
The file icons display correctly elsewhere. I've tried Icon Cache - Rebuild in Windows 10
When I go up to my cabin, Windows always changes my time zone to Pacific. I'm in Mountain Time, and I actually go east to get to the cabin. I don't know if it's the IP address, or the WiFi network, or what, but it happens every time. If I go into Time settings and disable automatically detect timezone, I can set it back to mountain time. But if I re-enable auto-detect, it switches right back to Pacific.
View 1 Repliesafter Cortana stopped working one day, I decided to wipe my account, so I used my brothers email and made him administrator. Unfortunately I typed one capital on accident and now I have no access as admin on my computer.
View 2 RepliesI updated my laptop from 8.1 when I got it last month. Generally when it's on my desk, I use an ethernet cable, however if I try to connect to our wifi it won't work.
The wifi network shows up and with a strong connection, but when I put the password in it says it's wrong. All other devices in the house that use wifi connect with no problem, I've even forgotten the network and reconnected with my phone just fine and my laptop connects to other wireless networks fine as well, it just seems to have an issue with my home wifi.
I clicked on the "View download progress" button and I get the message; "Something went wrong. Please try again later".
I should note that I got an error message earlier when upgrading that said I was getting the "update error 0x80080008". I eventually fixed that using a .bat file I learned from another site but now I'm getting this new error.
I was recently playing a game and realize my graphics card wasn't running as good as I would like. Realized i hadn't updated the drivers in sometime so I went ahead and did. After restarting my computer after the updates like it told me too, my screen was pushed in 1in. on both sides and 1/2in. on the top and bottom. Along with skype and steam not opening, even though I was on it right up until I restarted my computer.
View 1 RepliesUpgraded to Windows 10. I don't know what he did, but at the sign in screen, it has a yahoo account that does not exist. I tried resetting the info for that yahoo account but it says the account doesn't exist. He does know his correct yahoo account which is apparently linked to his MS account. I can't seem to find out how to remove the non-existent login account in order to get him signed in with his actual account. Everything I'm seeing involves ISO's, CD's, or bootable recovery drives none of which he would have. Is there a way to correct his sign in account considering we're unable to log into Windows to begin with because it's asking him to sign into an account he doesn't have?
View 6 Replies[URL] .... I originally installed windows on 1440p resolution. I then upgraded that monitor to a 4k monitor and the notifications/tray menus for some programs seem to still open as if its a 1440p monitor. I have two side monitors that are 1440p and the notifications load properly on those but its very annoying that they load in the middle of my screen on my 4k monitor. I really don't want to reinstall windows or multiple programs.
View 3 RepliesI am using hp 14-r029tx and windows 10 pro. The problem is, I have my wifi on. But the airplane mode status shows activated which means airplane mode is on. If my wifi is on then how come airplane mode is also on? Sometimes wifi takes too much time to load and sometimes have to reboot also. my wifi adapter is QUALCOMM Atheros qca 9565 with Bluetooth.
View 9 Repliesi'm using windows 10 insider now in build 10547, recently some file with specified extension showing the wrong icon, all the wrong icon is same as in the screenshoot:
All error files have icon same like this picture, but all file is can opened with right program, the document is one of from some error file type, last time i have error with archive file and video (all extension eg: mkv, mp4, etc) but fixed when i'm install the media player, and archive file fixed when i'm reinstalling new theme in winrar application. This error can't fixed by change open with, example for my picture file, if i'm using windows photo viewer icon is error, showing icon like the above picture, then when i change open with using photos file icon is right showing the photos application like icon, if i change to windows photo viewer again then the icon wrong again. Rebuilding icon cache not fixing the problem, so what i can do? see icon like that even though the program is run correctly.
When I create a New Event on a specific day (All Day Event), it shows up on the previous day. For instance, a new event entered as an all day event on Sunday the 24th will appear on Saturday the 23rd.
View 2 RepliesThis seems simple, but I can't find any way to get it right. Cortana can't seem to tell me the right time.
I live in Ypsilanti, MI. Somehow Cortana thinks I live in Ypsilanti Twp., ND. So when I ask her what time it is, she's giving me a time from the North Dakota time zone, which is an hour behind my Michigan time zone.
The clock on my computer has the correct time and time zone.
I ensured that the address settings in my Hotmail account is correct.
I ensured that my Bing settings knows my correct address.
I added my address to Favorite Places in Cortana and set it as "Home".
Nothing seems to get Cortana to give me the right time (or home location).
So where do I go to correct my home location for Cortana?
Prior to upgrading to win 10 I was able to log in to my desktop pc and my laptop using my Microsoft account details , after upgrading I was still able to for a while , one day I tried to log in to my desktop pc and got wrong username or password message , but I am still able to log in on my laptop using these details , after several attempts and no success , I changed the password but the result was the same , I can also log in to my Microsoft account online ( on my laptop ) I have been in touch with Microsoft help but they say its windows problem , haven't been able to get into my desktop pc for the past three weeks , I have thought of removing the desktop pc from the account , but am unsure if that would work to get in to the pc or cause me further problems.
