View 6 RepliesAfter the recent (automatic) upgrade to windows 10 ( I have been running windows 10 for months), I can sign in to windows 10 but the desktop that appears with my sign in is something foreign and all my files, pictures and videos are NOT in any folders under Documents. So I thought I would go back to a restore point but am a bit afraid to since I cannot find a Restore file and I don't know how Microsoft and windows 10 works in this are or if my files are included in the automatic backup by the "system restore point" process. Then I thought I should, on my other windows 10 laptops, "create" a restore point from time to time as I feel is needed.
View 5 RepliesI set tried to set up the mail app. I was not suscessful. Would not sync. No mail from Outlook. I read how to delete the mail app and reinstall it from the shop. I ran the program to do that and it work. It removed the Mal and calendar app.
When I tried to go to the shop app, and down load the current mail app, as instructed, the shop will only stay open 3 seconds and then it will close. I rebooted the computer several times, no avail.
My question is how do I restore my computer to just before I removed the mail app.
OS is Windows 10 Home version.Want to create a custom restore point.Windows creates restore points by default by still I want to know if there's any way to create a Custom One,that might be like,of a specific Date and Time.
View 1 RepliesMy problem is that I cant set a restore point as Windows says some files are missing. So when I try and reset Windows it says it can't find the reset environment.
View 3 RepliesI installed windows 10 technical preview yesterday . I found a problem with system restore. It goes through everything normally but after it reboots I get an error. In the details it says:
System restore failed to extract the original copy of the directory from the restore point.
Source: %ProgramFiles%WindowsApps
Destination: Appxstaging
An unspecified error occurred during system restore. (0x80070057)
Is it possible to create a recovery partition or image on a PC, which could recover the PC using a Fn key during boot up ?
I have a PC with a recovery partition which is for vista, which is now obsolete now Imhave moved up to Windows 10 via Windows 7.... never want to recover to vista...
would love over to create my own recovery partition, where pressing e.g. Fn11 during startup invokes the recovery process.....maybe this is too difficult...there is a program called AOMEI OneKey Recovery which promises to do such, or so it looks...
I was able to use Instant_Restore_Point under Win 8 (worked great), which I found here: [URL]
But I can't get it to run under Win 10, even after adding (in the appropriate place) these lines:
If instr(objOS.Caption, "Windows 10") Then
GetOS = "Windows 10"
And making the adjustment:If GetOS = "Windows 8" Or GetOS = "Windows 10" Then
How can I get this script to work?
I had 8.1 and now 10, but the issue is with a restore point i did, a program i was using for work was acting up after windows did an auto update.
Did a restore point and now things are not opening right, applications that use to open just hang...i want to reinstall windows 8.1 BUT i dont want to reinstall Photoshop and other essential programs.
I want to restore and keep files BUT if there is an issue with doing that then ill reinstall from scratch.
how do i schedule system restore point in win 10?
View 2 RepliesNew desktop computer - Windows 10 Home. In System Restore, Configure, the Max Usage slider is all the way to the left. What does that mean? The hard drive is 1 TB, so I'm not concerned about how much it uses.(On my old Windows 7 desktop, I moved the slider to the right and it now saves fewer restore points.)
View 9 RepliesIs there a way to get Restore Points created automatically periodically? The only ones showing in the Restore Point window are those I created manually. System Update has never created one.
View 8 RepliesI have restore point space limited to 2Gigs on my Tablet. I've noticed that when a new restore point is created at the top of the list, an old one is removed from the bottom of the list. Sooner or later, I will end up with totally new restore points. Is there a way to save one specific restore point, and not loose it? (without actually backing up (not an option on my Tablet) ).
View 6 RepliesAfter restoring my computer back two days using System Restore, I noticed in PC Settings>Personalization>Start>Choose which folders appear on Start, that all the options are greyed out except "Settings". I was wondering if there was a way to fix this? I already tried SFC /Scannow and DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, but neither fixed the problem.
View 4 RepliesI upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 this past week. All is well except for one thing. I received an update from Microsoft yesterday (Cumulative Update for Win 10 - KB3081424) and noted during the installation that no restore point was created. System Protection is ON and I am able to create restore points manually. Thus, this is only a minor annoyance since I can successfully create these points on my own. However, I would prefer for the system to do so when important updates from Microsoft come down. I guess it is possible that the update referenced above did not generate such a point but found that unusual since it is listed as a Cumulative Update.
View 4 RepliesI see that Win10 has deleted the function to schedule the creation of restore points! Supposedly it creates a new restore point before downloading updates (if the function is turned on; by default it is off!).
I like to schedule the creation of points every few days or each week to prevent viruses from corrupting things. This feature is so important; I can't believe they have hidden it, made it less functional, and turned it off by default!
Is there any way to run the creation button from the task scheduler or something to automatically schedule restore point creation?
When I manually try and make a restore point using the windows program it ends with a property page error.
It still does the restore point ok and seems to work all right if I need to use that point to restore.
No error notifications pop up using the System Restore Point shortcut tool or when system does a restore point when adding new programs or drivers.
So my best guess is the error is showing up because this page is open
Does it on two machines running Home 10586.14
I have set up the following in Task Scheduler:-
However it does not work!
How can I enable history?
I noticed a folder named" Windows.migrated" and I deleted in error thinking it wasn't necessary anymore. This was after i upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1 to 10. Unfortunately it caused ALL my store apps including the default ones to be deleted. I'm a bit lost of what to do now. I don't have a restore point to access.
View 3 RepliesMy custom built computer started to randomly shutdown or restart, and after exhausting all software/driver checks to windows updates and other software related discrepancies, I resorted to "resetting" my OS, which did not fix my problem anyway. The issue, it seems, turns out to be an old computer I recently bought and had it in close proximity to my computer, and the old computer was causing some sort of an interference. That's my only explanation anyway since the issue stopped after I unplugged and moved the old computer away from my custom built PC.
At any rate, since it appears that my issue had nothing to do with software/driver/windows updates, I would like to know if there is any way I could revert the windows "reset." I attempted to use the option to restore to and old version, but that did not work (I assume this option has to do with System Restore to a created Restore Point?). I also do not see the "Go Back To An Earlier Build" option from Recovery, and I am guessing this is because I did not "upgrade" from a different version of window?
So really, my question is, is there a way to revert a windows 10 reset to it's previous state. I am hoping there is so I don't have to go through the trouble of setting my PC back again if I do not really have to. The answer to my question is probably no, but I wanted to check anyway.
After updating to Win10 from 8.1 on my Lumia 640 I've noticed that apps now launch or restore slower. For example on 8.1 Skype started in 5-6 seconds. On Win10 it takes about 10 seconds. The same with other applications. The launch/restore time increased by 80%-100%.
View 2 RepliesI'm currently running a MSI Leopard, laptop.
I have this one issue. I set up Chrome as my default browser for example, or VLC as my default player for .avi, .mp4, .mkv or else.
But as soon as I will have rebooted the laptop, these settings are reset. Edge for web pages, Windows Media Player for videos etc ...
I'm using Administrator account on my PC, when I click on "Create a password reset disk" nothing happens, what's the issue? or again it's Windows 10 thing!!
View 9 RepliesI'm trying to clean up my desktop, but every time I turn my laptop off, and then come back to it, all the icons have reset to the way they were before I started moving stuff around. Even the change from small to medium icons resets.
View 8 RepliesUntil yesterday everything was working fine. This night I shutdown my computer and this morning, when I started it up, I noticed the icons of my dekstop in the default location and with the default dimensions.
I repositioned them , I changed icon dimensions again but if I sign out/sign in , restart , shutdown/startup the computer , all my desktop icons go back to default position and default dimension.
Im not trying to do anything illegal or anything but i want to create a skipable installation iso. Ive been able to successfully do this with windows 8/8.1. The reason for me to do this is I work at a computer repair shop and we do a lot of installs. To keep up a fast pace i find it easier to skip the product key initially and activate it later. I cant seem to find the ei.efg file to edit. Perhaps they changed the format of the install.
