I have a Dell Inspiron 17R laptop that came with Windows 8. I downloaded 8.1 and used that since 2013. I am now using Windows 10 and it has been it good transition until the last update. I keep getting messages about dell backup and recovery not being compatible with this version of Windows (Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.11). I would just like to unstall the Dell application since I do not need it. I have a backup of my system should I need it in the future.

Can't Create Recovery Drive - No Eligible Drives To Do Backup

Jul 29, 2015

So I've completed the upgrade from 8.1 pro to Windows 10 pro. I want to do a clean install so I went to control panel to create a recovery drive. After clicking next through the first screen it appears to search for eligible drives to backup to (I'm just assuming here, and I do have a 32GB USB drive plugged in), then just gives up and says it can't do it. No explanation of what went wrong. So I guess no clean install for me..

Will I be able to roll back to Windows 7 from Windows 10, using Windows Recovery Disc which I made as a Backup for my Hp Pavillion. I know this question may sound silly, but has a point in case Windows 10 doesn't have certain features which I m using on my PC currently e.g Remote desktop.

Recovery Backup Options For User Who Upgraded From Initially Win 8.1 Without CD / DVD Drive

Jan 25, 2016

We were all excited to get Win 10 and did a clean install, and finally after some time got everything worked OK. At least for my Lenovo Y40-80 it took some time. Now that I am adding software to focus on using most of this laptop. I wanted to make sure I create a system image that is this time in Win 10 to restore if something messes up in the near future.

However, this was a win 8.1 pc and never had win 10 restore in its restore partition that is the built-in Lenovo Restore & It has no CD/DVD Drive to create Natural Win 10 Repair Disc to boot from. So I am trying now to create a "Recovery Drive" on an external USB to keep however since I can't create a Win 10 Repair disc without CD/DVD Drive, how am I going to have access to this Win 10 backup if I have to restore to this point??

Finally I also don't have any clue that; even if I took the risk, and restored back to original Win 8.1 - is it going to be possible to pass again to Win 10 clean install.

Will it be possible without any Win 10 key? What key it passed on to when it did clean install to Win 10 this past september when I did my free upgrade...

How to manage to create a win 10 native backup and were able to restore it without having to go back win 8.1 partition.

Performance :: Recovery USB Media / Drive - Control Panel (Backup And Restore)

Windows10 Recovery USB Media/Drive - Control Panel ( Backup & Restore )

I have upgraded to Windows 10 from Widows 8.1 (pre-installed) , on my "ACER Aspire E1 472P- 6491" laptop by taking advantage of the free upgrade offer and successfully activated Windows 10 . I do not have a Windows (8.1 or 10) product key , as the Windows was pre-loaded on the laptop .

Now I want to make a " Windows10 Recovery Drive ", which can be used later to boot/re-instal Windows10 in case my Laptop fails to boot or to reset/troubleshoot any problems on Windows10 . Accordingly I tried to Create Factory Default Backup via Control Panel ( Backup & Restore ) option, but I found that it is meant for Windows 7 or 8.1 only ( which means that the system can be recovered back to Windows 7 or 8.1 only - not Windows 10 ) .

Why Backup & Restore is meant for Windows 7 only , when I have upgraded to Windows 10 already . In fact I have upgraded to Windows 10 from Widows 8.1 ( not Windows 7 ), then why it is taking me back to Windows 7 ? Can I not create a Recovery USB Media/Drive Backup for Windows10 for future use , after I have upgraded to Windows 10 ? If not , then how to make a Windows10 Recovery USB Media/Drive .

a) After upgradation to Windows 10 , why Control Panel ( Backup & Restore ) option is meant for Windows 7 ( or 8.1 ) recovery .

b) How to create Windows10 Recovery USB Media/Drive Backup that will work to boot/re-instal Windows10 in case my Laptop fails to boot in future .

Installation :: Cannot Clean Install Off A Flash Drive On Dell

Sep 11, 2015

Yesterday I upgraded from Windows 8,1 to Windows 10. I wanted to clean install so I booted from my USB drive (which has the Windows 10 image and worked before on my other PC) and it didn't work.

Something was corrupt with my registry on the C: drive so I formatted it. Now I can't boot obviously and I get odd error messages like bad_config_info or something like that. I can't even clean install on the damn drive, it gets stuck after copying files.

I really need my laptop ready over the weekend, because my current PC is garbage and also blue screens with Memory_Management. I'm not even bothering with that on a 6 yr old PC.

Installation :: How To Revert Back To Windows 8.1 On A Dell Venue 8 Pro

Sep 20, 2015

So I made the mistake of upgrading my Dell Venue 8 Pro to Windows 10... It's very slow and buggy.

I tried using the built in "Revert back to Windows 8.1" option in the Settings "app", but it says that files have been deleted and it can no longer perform the uninstallation.

I also tried going into the tablet's built in Backup and Recovery from Dell, but that doesn't allow me to reinstall Windows 8. It's merely a diagnostic.

Installation :: How To Install UEFI On Dell Inspiron 15 7559

Feb 23, 2016

As the title says how exactly do you achieve this?

I have an ISO Ran RUFUS 2.6
GPT Partition Scheme for UEFI
Fat 32
8192 Default
X Quick Format
X Create a bootable disk using
X Create Extended label and Icon Files

so the next part is the Kicker Dell did a number on their Bios and rather than using standard logic as we have done so many years just setting the boot order to "Boot USB" first, you "Only" have the option to create a "Boot Program"!!! so you select your USB Drive then which ever file you want it to boot I'm Assuming? So I tried selecting Setup, bootmgr.efi, and autorun with no results!

I get the secured boot error crap, turn that off and I get Legacy BIOS (that defeats the entire point) What the hell happened to Win95 Boot Discs and FDISK?

I am so frustrated with this garbage, I found out the hard way with Windows 10 and trying to nuke the SSD and put a clean install of 8.1 on it.

Installation :: Safe To Delete DELL Created Partitions When Upgrading OS

Jan 11, 2016

My DELL Latitude laptop came with Windows 8.1 Pro x64 on it. I decided that I want to upgrade it to Windows 10 Pro x64.Before I did anything I used DELL Backup and Recovery to create a flash drive so I can always restore the PC back to factory if anything goes wrong during the upgrade process.

After creating the recovery media I used the Windows 10 upgrade wizard to upgrade to Windows 10 carrying over all of my existing files. I primarily did this so my Windows 8.1 Product Key which is injected into the motherboard would officially become a Windows 10 Product Key.Now I would like to do a 100% clean install of Windows 10 through a bootable Windows 10 USB flash drive that I just got done creating but have a few questions:I booted from the flash drive and went to Custom (Advanced) install and I am currently viewing all of the partitions:

Drive 0 Partition 1: "ESP" type: (System)
Drive 0 Partition 2: "DIAGS" type: (OEM)
Drive 0 Partition 3: "" type: MSR (Reserved)
Drive 0 Partition 4: "WINRETOOLS" (Recovery)
Drive 0 Partition 5: "OS" type: (Primary)
Drive 0 Partition 6: "" type: (Recovery)
Drive 0 Partition 7: "PBR Image" (Recovery)

Which of these are DELL related and which of these are just the additional partitions Windows automatically installs? Can I just delete them all and fresh install Windows 10 on Unpartitioned space? Is there any that are non operating system related and might be worth keeping like the DIAGS one? Will my DELL Backup and Recovery media rely on any of these if I delete them and then try to use it later on?Is there any use for any single one these anymore now that I have backup recovery media and will be going to Windows 10?

Installation :: OS Hangs At Dell Logo Despite Various Boot Options On XPS8700

Oct 2, 2015

New Dell XPS8700. Upgraded from Win 8.1 to Windows 10 and worked fine for about a month.

On start-up, it now hangs on the Dell logo or when trying boot options to start from USB or recovery DVD go to blank black screen. Dell phone support sucked but they sent me a recovery USB drive (to factory set Win 8.1), however start-up would still hang at the Dell logo. Tried all different boot combinations from CD/DVD, USB, OS/Boot partition but cannot proceed beyond Dell logo or black/blank screen. I do not have a original Windows 10 OS disc, however did a download from

HTML Code: [URL] .... to USB and PC does not boot up from that media either.

Used an original Windows 7 Ultimate installation CD to start and get to command prompt to recover files from C: drive and can browse through all folders and files. Copied user data to USB drive. So HDD appears OK.

Installation :: Downgrade Without Backup?

I recently purchased a Hp Pavillion laptop pre-installed with Windows 10. I like Windows 10 because it is simple and to the point. However, I am interested in using certain software like StarDock & such, but it is not compatible with Windows 10. Since my computer came pre-installed with Windows 10 I cannot "revert". I have a Windows 7 iso on my computer & I have tried multiple times to run Windows 7. I ran the installer, it prompted me to restart my computer. and there were two bootable options, Windows 10 & Windows setup.

If I make an acronis true image back up of her system now, then upgrade vidta to windows 7, then upgrade to windows 10, let it activate, then make another acronis true image backup.....then restore the vista backup.

will I then at some future date, possibly even after the ' free' windows 10 period expires, restore the windows 10 from the image I have ?

sounds bit complicated, but if I leave it too long the free windows 10 upgrade will end..

Installation :: Restore Windows From Data Backup?

Oct 21, 2015

So I managed to break my partition table, but I was able to recover my entire C: drive and copy every file and folder to an external drive. My question now becomes, is there anyway to, when I reinstall Windows, to restore from that backup (since it's just a data backup of files and folders, not a system image)? Would booting into linux (so that partition isn't in use by Windows) and simply copy-past-overwriting the old files effectively give me my system back?

Installation :: Recovery USB Disk

Mar 5, 2016

I am trying to create a recovery USB drive from which I can install Windows 10 fresh, if needed. Or quickly restore system images in case of a drive issue. There are a couple of things I am not clear about.

Background:

I have an ASUS laptop that came with Windows 8.1, UEFI (upgraded to Windows 10 at the moment). Initially, I created a Windows 8.1 recovery USB and reinstalled Win 8.1 using it. From what I understand, the 100MB EFI partition is normally the first one. On restoration, the following was created

305 MB Win 8.1 system partition
100 MB EFI
C drive
Manufacturer recovery partition

When it upgraded to Win 10, it ended up with the following partition structure

305 MB Win 8.1 system partition
100 MB EFI
C drive
450 MB system partition (I believe this is Win 10 system partition)
Manufacturer recovery partition

Questions:

The trouble is, now when I create a Windows 10 recovery USB drive, it really creates just a rescue drive (< 1GB in size) even though the 'copy system files' option is selected. I believe a recovery USB drive needs at least a 16GB drive. Not sure what is happening here?!!!

Also, is there a way to make Win 8.1 recovery create the system partition adjacent to the C drive so it can resize it to 450 MB during the upgrade? Or maybe create a 500MB partition beforehand that Win 8.1 uses during recovery and later is upgraded to Win 10? Can I create the partitions beforehand using GParted Live USB and expect the Windows recovery process to use them?
