Installation :: Download Have Auto-resume Capability If Internet Fails
Aug 5, 2015
My plan is soon after I get the Win 8.1 laptop to download and install Win10. Here 3G cellular internet is slow and unreliable. I'm scared that if I try to download Win10 it will fail and I'll have to start the download from the beginning.
Someone told me that the Win10 download includes the ability to auto-resume so that if a download fails it can re-start from where it left off once the internet comes back. Is that true? I need to get confirmation on this before I get my new Win8.1 laptop.
If Win10 download really does have auto-resume capability then I can do the Win10 download and resume as needed if the download fails. without losing data.
How to confirm that Win10 download has auto-resume capability so downloaded data is not lost.

If I use the Window 10 Upgrade System Tray Icon to do the download then it will auto-resume with no data loss if the internet connection fails. If I try to download Win 10 Upgrade some other way then it does not have auto-resume and I'll lose the data and have to start over.
I have 3G cellular internet here in India. It is unreliable and slow and often drops out. So auto-resume is an absolute necessity if I want to successfully upgrade to Win10.

I'm running Win10 Home on an i5 5th gen laptop. I'm trying to download the big new Win10 update but I live in India and my internet is unreliable. Does the Win10 download auto-resume? I can't tell. Does the download pick up from where it left off if the internet fails? So far I can't tell one way or the other.

(TYPO: DonHamfrick; should be DonHamrick) Using HP Pavilion Notebook 27-g161us (Intel Core i3-5020U CPU @2.20GHz 2.19GHz) with Windows 10 through McDonalds' free wi-fi in two different cities on separate occasions to download Google Earth in different web browsers (Firefox, Google Chrome, MS Edge, and IExplorer). The download attempts has failed repeatedly at the last second of downloading. Is something wrong with Google Earth install program?

I upgraded from Windows 7 "Starter Edition" (32-bit) on an ASUS Eee PC 1005PE (2GB RAM) to Windows 10 32-bit. This mostly seemed to work, however I can no longer resume from either sleep or hibernate. In either case, I get a blank screen. The other problem I notice is that the task bar separator (with a scroll bar type widget) between the active tasks and the notification icons seems to disappear and the active task icons seem to get mistakenly hidden from view. This is a minor annoyance and something I can live with, simply by switching periodically to the "Task View". But I would really like resolving the wakeup from sleep problem. So far I have tried updating the video adapter driver (which was already "up to date"), and I checked that I have the latest BIOS firmware.

I have a laptop running Windows 10 and a Nokia phone running Windows 8. When the phone's Internet Sharing is switched, on the laptop will see it and connect - but as soon as Outlook / Edge / Explorer tries to use the connection it fails and the wireless connection is lost and cannot be restarted without closing and re-starting Sharing on the phone.
Now the odd part - this same phone links perfectly to my iPad, and my laptop links perfectly to my wife's iPhone (and obviously the iPhone and iPad work together). The only combination that doesn't work is the two Windows devices!
Rebooting phone and/or laptop makes no difference, and the Win10 troubleshooter can't identify the problem.

I have an Acer Aspire laptop that used to have Bluetooth on it. I just recently noticed that all evidence of Bluetooth has disappeared from the OS. The Bluetooth module that I am using is:
Bluetooth 4.0 + HS, the two drivers listed on the support portal for my model number are an Atheros Wifi/BT combo and a Broadcom. I can't tell since there since the OS doesn't see it.
First thing I tried is to download and install both drivers from the manufacture's site (Acer Support). Both installers did not detect the BT module being present and ended prematurely.

Using windows 10 on a Surface 3. I've tried to download several programs from the internet using chrome and the explorer that comes with windows 10.
It will show were it downloads and says it is complete, but it will not open and run the program. It just disappears . I have went to downloads and tried to run it as administrator. Then it will pop up with a error code, Windows can not find the download make sure you typed the name correctly.
I'm not sure when this started, but when I first switched over I had to download iTunes 2 times which went through. Now nothing.

I got an aorus x5 about 1 week ago which came with windows 8.1 which I immediatly upgraded to windows 10, but the internet dowload speeds are incredibly slow purely on that laptop, I have tested the internet speeds using speedtest.net and on my old laptop (an msi gp60 2pe) I am getting 40.23 mbps download and 7.67 mpbs upload with a ping of 17ms on firefox, on my phone (a sony xperia z3) I am getting ping 20ms, download of 26.96mbps and upload of 8.84mbps on their app, and on my aorus I am getting anything from 0.01mbps to 4.36 mbps dowload and 8.67mbps to 8.92mbps upload with a ping of 9-14ms, having tested with edge, ie, firefox, chrome and opera. I am not running any amd hardware and I have disabled bandwith control through killer network manager, however at the time of writing when I test through killer I got 4.98 and through firefox I get 1.42 (both use speedtest.net), so I would assume it is a regulator of some sort, but I can't find one anywhere. I also get reasonable speeds through steam (around 11mbps) but it is quite a way off the 35 mbps down and 7mbps up I am supposed to get

I've successfully updated to Windows 10 on my two Surfaces, but there is some kind of issue on my desktop PC. The upgrade process from Windows 8 fails at about 71% total (Installing features and drivers at 91%), and the error I get is:
C1900101-40017 Windows Update ran into a problem.
When I click on "Get help with this error" I'm directed to a page with some general troubleshooting with Windows Update. I've run Windows update repair tool and it fixed some issues, but the installation failed again.
I have now tried freeing up more disk space which I admit was a bit tight and I'm preparing to run the update again. Still, I'd prefer if there was a more detailed error message or a log file where I could see what exactly went wrong, but there are no indications where I might find one (either in the error message, the troubleshooter, or Google). As it is, I'm shooting blind here and this will now be my fifth upgrade attempt.

I have been trying to upgrade 7pro for a day or so with no luck. First of all I tried the 'get windows 10 app' this tells me a update (KB2952664) is not installed. It was showing as failed in my update long but has since installed ok. However the app still says its missing. So I tried the media creation tool. This starts up fine but about 40 min in this screen appears
I press ok and after about 10 seconds the installer just closes, and that's it we are back to normal. I have tried this 3 times and I get the same result.

I was a fool to upgrade.

So I've been trying to update to WIN 10 a lot of times since it came out. Unfortunately the update fails around 80-90% and a BSOD shows up. The BSOD says something like Kernel Inpage Error. I've tried to update from Windows Update, the media creator tool and from the "Get Windows 10" program.

I have a HP desktop with W-7 that the HD is failing. (Almost failed)
I can't do a clone or a system image.
I installed a new HD and booted from my latest USB Upgrade from the Windows Media Creation tool.
I skipped the activation as it installed.
Now when I use the original product key, it fails to activate.

My laptop was upgraded to Windows 10 two days ago but my desktop has not received the green light yet. I was reading that if you downloaded the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's web site that it had an option that would allow up to upgrade your PC or create an ISO install disk. I downloaded the app on my laptop and created an ISO disk as a backup in case I need to do a clean install on that platform but when I tried to run the app on my desktop it brings up the UAC prompt asking if I want to run this program and when I click Yes, nothing happens.
I read some thread somewhere that if you're having problems with this app you need to do a selective startup where you don't run any startups and you disable all of the services and after restarting, I tried this and after restarting my PC running the Media Creation app again failed to do anything .
If I run Windows Update it says I have no updates pending but it was interesting that every time I've run the Media Creation Tool it puts an entry in my update log that says the update failed. The fact is the upgrade has not failed in the normal sense only the Media Creation Tool failed.
My concern is that I have a reservation for the upgrade but that too might fail so I'd like to get my desktop upgraded to Windows 10 asap.

Upgrade of Win7 HP laptop -- not usual failure code. Upgrade done through Windows Update (copy was reserved). Gets to 24%, restarts, bring up Recovery screen, fails with 0xc0000f -- a required device isn't connected.
Only one physical drive in the laptop -- works fine under Win7.
Have seen threads about problems with System Reserved being too small for Win10 (200MB for Win7 vs. 450MB for Win8). Tried shrinking C: and resizing System Reserved.
Repeats above problems -- plus, leaves laptop in weird mode with Win10 partially installed, a new Recovery partition, and nothing working (meaning, Win7 won't boot anymore).
Am now trying option of installing from DVD, after merging boot stuff into C: partition and removing System Reserved -- figuring that if Win10 requires a System Reserved partition, it knows how to create one the right size.

I tried updating my Win8.1 to Win10 twice.
The first time, it hung at 26% total, 89% copying files. Then it bricked my system completely so I made a clean install of Windows 8.1. There was nothing else installed than Windows & Updates.
Tried to update it with a stick made by the Media Creation Tool --> Stuck at 23%, 77% copying files.
I tried everything: Disabled Network Adapter, pulled all Cables (only mouse left) out, I also detached my second HDD.
I am trying to install Win10 on my SSD (Samsung 830 Pro, 130GB). I am running a Z77 Chipset.
I'd love to install completely new with the Image but that doesn't work because of the activation later on..
I'm stuck with a fresh Windows 8.1 install now, that's not really what I wanted. I'd love to update to 10 since I had it as a Insider too.

Have followed instructions & downloaded upgrade only to find every time it gets to 32% it fails & will not go any further, have done this four times outcome always the same, I have 74gb of hard drive free so there should be enough to accommodate the upgrade.
