I get to the login screen that says "Hi there, welcome back!", and when I press the "Next" button the login screen takes a long time and I get a loading cursor. If I press anything after that, the computer restarts itself and the problem begins again. Due to this, I can't even access my computer.
View 2 RepliesI did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.
It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?
The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.
Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times.
Description: My USB keyboard stops working at the login screen. None of the keys are responsive. The onscreen keyboard works fine.
This happens on wakeup after a remote desktop session and after scheduled updates during the night. In both cases this happens after wakeup, which makes this tedious to reproduce.
The keyboard starts working after unplugging the usb and plugging back or after restarting. I have this same issue on my work PC (HP, win 10) which makes me believe that this is a windows 10 issue. I have tested with three different USB keyboards.
Troubleshooting so far: Energy settings for USB checked (USB selective suspend setting set to disabled)...
I installed Windows10 and it opened . I looked at the start menu and then logged off. The next time I started my computer I could log on because I didn't have a password. When I used my phone to set a new password, I could not set one up. The msn.com site wanted to recover not take a new password.
View 2 RepliesI have a desktop computer that I just built with Windows 7 home premium installed on it. It was working great but yesterday I decided to upgrade to Windows 10. After the upgrade, it brought me to a screen that says welcome back with my username and a space for me to put my password. When I input the correct password, the computer freezes and eventually restarts and brings me to the same screen again. Pressing F2 or Del while it powers on does nothing and so does pressing F8. I cannot restart while holding shift because there is no restart option on the login screen it brings me to. I know that the password in right because if I put in something else it just says password incorrect. Clicking on "I'm not *myusername*"also causes a crash.
My computer easily meets the requirements for the OS and the SSD it installed on still had over 40 gigabytes left on it after downloading the 5 gigabyte file so I don't think it's a hardware or storage problem.I don't care if I have to restore it to windows 7 or reinstall windows 10, I just want it to work.
So i tried updating my computer from windows 8 to 10 and last night and it froze at 75% and configuration settings 1%, i let it sit there all night but it still was at 75%. I had read that people where having the same problem and that itll revert to windows 8.1 after you reset it so i did. To my surprise it booted as windows 10 and allowed me to log in but after i logged in my computer black screened without a cursor. I reset it several times but the same problem kept occuring.

The Windows 8.1 method doesn't work any more -- if you choose the wrong colour at install time you are stuck with it.
The option to change doesn't work from the desktop - It used to be possible also from the Start screen in W8.1 - example shown below.
My error -- you simply right mouse click on desktop on W10 and then personalize -- it's separate from installing themes. The setting changes menu colour task bar colour and logon background.
I used the free download Windows 10 Update to go from Windows 8.1. Install went find and it comes to the login screen that says "Welcome Back". I click on the next button and a small blue circle comes up and spins but nothing happens beyond that. I unplugged external drives, cards, flash drives etc and tried a hard reboot but it still stops at the same spot. What can I do from here?
View 3 RepliesJust upgraded my bro-in-law's HP Pavilion desktop from 8.1 to 10. It's got an AMD processor, but I don't know which one exactly...probably one of the lower level ones. It was a refurb from Fry's, purchased a couple of months ago. It was running 8.1 just fine.
The upgrade process to win 10 went smoothly, got the pretty picture and the standard login screen, entered login info and got a series of messages welcoming me to win 10 and that the system was being configured. Then a message that said the install was "taking a bit longer than usual" and to wait a while longer. Stayed on this for about 10 minutes, and then screen went black with a cursor. And it's been that way for the past two hours. Just leaving it for now hoping it will magically come up with the win 10 desktop, but so far no love.
After installing Windows 10 - on the first login screen, when I enter my password pc is freezing up, after a few seconds it fades to black and then restarts. Cannot get past this part. The PC I'm upgrading is a Dell Inspiron laptop upgrading from Win7.

If I do, does this mean that when my PC starts from a boot, that instead of the pin that I use to login to my account on the PC, I will be asked to login with both my Microsoft account username and password? If I make a mistake will I be locked out of my PC?
View 3 RepliesI reinstalled windows the day before yesterday and since then every time I turn my laptop on after entering my password the screen turns off for like 2 seconds then turns back on. This have never happened to me before. I tried putting my old windows back via Macrium Reflect and I even tried reinstalling it again but neither of those things worked. I have an Acer Aspire V3-572g laptop.
View 9 RepliesI upgraded from Windows 8 to 10 without a hitch an hour ago and kept all of my personal files and apps. I set up my start menu and everything was working fine, but I wanted to change the image on the logon screen (or whatever you call the screen in between the lock screen and the screen where you enter your PIN/info). So I took a risk and downloaded the 3rd party app here:
[URL] and uploaded an image and hit apply. Of course right after doing that I went to lock my PC to see if it worked, and as you can tell... it didn't.
I've tried rebooting and it hasn't worked. It's just very rapidly flashing between a blue screen w/ a loading circle and my lock screen image.
yesterday I loaded up a game and noticed that I had really bad lag. Eventually I found out that my PC said that my nvidia gpu was missing (the nvidia control panel said so). I tired fixing it in a number of ways but none worked. I uninstalled my gpu driver and got driver sweeper which asked me if I wanted to reboot in safe mode and I pressed yes.
Then my PC went to a black screen and stayed that way until today. I followed some random person online's idea to take out my ram and put it back in - it worked. Now another (and the main) problem. Windows 10 loaded up into the log in screen. One weird thing is that it is zoomed in by a lot which I did not do. Here's the main problem I'm having. I tried to put in the password for my email associated with my PC account log in system.
I tried a bunch of passwords but none has worked so far. I've tried f8 but to use any of the options I have to log in. I've changed my password online for my Microsoft account but it doesn't work. I have an Ethernet cable connected to my PC but it says I don't have an Internet connection. I reset my PC and I pressed f8 and it randomly started the system repair even though my password didn't work. I clicked the drive reset option and chose to keep all my files. That gets to I think 17% and then shows me an error saying that there was a problem with it. I also tried the complete reset of my disk but it took about an 30 minutes to get to 2% and I reset my PC.
Extra info.: I have a 2TB hard drive and I have like 600 GB's left.
My father upgraded his Acer Aspire laptop to Windows 10 last week and now his login password is not working. I don't know if he had to put in a password to do the upgrade or if he miss-typed it. How to reset it or find the one he needs?
View 11 RepliesThe black screen occurs before login screen. It happens randomly. I have to move the mouse (haven't tried pressing keyboard) and it will show the login screen and windows will continue normally. On my device driver it shows only 1 display adapter that is NVIDIA GTX 970. My motherboard is H87-PLUS and its specs shows that it does have an Integrated Graphics Processor.
Tried installing Intel Graphics Driver but just shows 'This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software.' Tried disabling the lock screen too but its not working. Tried putting PCI-E as the default graphics in BIOS but its not working either. how could I prevent the black screen from showing up again?
Cannot login to my Google account or even play any video on Perfect Tube App.
View 3 RepliesI have an Acer (Intel Pentium Windows 10, 64-bit) computer which I bought a few months ago, and created one 'user' (my name - say John) Suddenly this week when I logged in (as John) the only items on the desktop were the default programs installed with the computer; all my files were gone. When opening the browser, or windows media player, all my custom settings were gone and it was as if the programs were being used for the first time. The default program used to open files (e.g. the original program instead of windows media player) had all reverted also.
The start button was/is also not working. After a panic, I then discovered my files are still there and accessible - to do so I have to right-click on one of the programs on desktop and 'open file location' then I can use the left column to (through windows explorer) get to C drive then 'Users' then 'John' and I can access everything that way.
Also, the keyboard settings have changed ie shift + 2 gives the @ sign instead of quotation mark. I have Norton which suggests no virus involved. I didn't have system restore activated. When computer starts it says press DEL to enter setup but nothing happens when I press it.
While logged in the systems goes back to the login screen. I have checked all of the display and screen saver settings. But after a reboot it still happens after just a few minutes.

I used a small program called something like Windows 10 Login Background Changer (something along those lines) and when I restarted my computer, it never reached the login screen. I can move the mouse and open Magnifier (was pushing random controls), but I don't know how to get past here.
View 7 RepliesI tried to install Windows 10 fresh from a usb but it said my Windows 7 key didn't work and I never got a Windows 10 key so I'm not sure what to do, the upgrade install won't login. I enter password, then proceed but it locks up. if I click anywhere after a minute the screen goes black ave nothing happens.

I tried safe mode repair but it said it's unable to repair and I should restart the pc.
I have just upgraded from build 9926 to build 10041 and now I have s major problem with the login screen. It won't respond and no matter what I do with my mouse or keyboard it respond. The clock still changes however which us kinda strange. Here is a pic

It is bad enough that it DEMANDS a login on a home personal PC (If someone is in my house then I have been broken into), BUT MS goes farther and insists it has to be a passwork of a certain strength containing this many characters and so many upper and numeric - there has to be a way to defeat this. I tried leaving the field blank and it will have nothing to do with that.
View 19 RepliesWindows 10 loads and all good, after typing in password all good, programs load, then after 10 seconds black screen with mouse cursor active, if I run a command prompt and type in explorer.exe the desktop comes back for 10 seconds then back to black screen, I run a nviadia 460 GTX, I'm assuming theres some driver issue, have installed latest driver but same result.

View 6 RepliesI just installed Windows 10. The install went fine, but now I am at the login screen, and that is as far as I've gotten. I have the option to click on all of the buttons on the login screen, but as soon as I click one, be it hitting enter after entering my password, or hitting the next button, or clicking "I'm not Eric", it freezes.
I can't click anything, the button I clicked stays the color it looks when you press it. I then continue to click until the loading wheel appears, then the screen gets the white haze like a program isn't responding, and then goes black and reboots. I can click on the clock looking image that gives you some options, and I can click and unclick those, but as soon as I try something else, freezes.
System meets the requirements, have a genuine copy of windows 7 ultimate, downloaded windows 10 from the media launched or whatever it's called that you can bypass the wait time for receiving the update. It was from the window site, so I feel comfortable in believing it isn't a fake or anything.
EDIT: When I turn on the narrator, everytime I make a key stroke it says "Hidden", not sure what the entails
