Installation :: Machine In Sleep Mode But There Is Network Activity?
Nov 27, 2015
I just upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10. The computer is connected to the home network via a gigabit switch. I notice that when the computer is in sleep mode ,there is still network activity but only the 10 mb/s connection LED is lit. When I had win7 OS and computer is in sleep mode , that same LED on the network switch would be off signifying no network activity at all .
I decided to take the plunge and install win 10 on one of my machines. Used windows update to install build 10074 from windows 7.
Everything seems to have worked fine except my network adapter (onboard Realtek thing) isn't being detected.
Figured this might be a driver thing so I installed various versions of the realtek drivers both win 7 and win 8 ones and these seem to install fine but then cannot detect the card. The installer gives an error that the card may be in "Deep Sleep mode".
Once installed the Device "REaltek PCIe GBE Family Controller" appears in device manager with no issues or conflicts, but nothing is in the Network Connections window when I go through Network and Sharing centre.
I have tried booting to the trouble shooting menu and selecting load unsigned drivers but this has not worked.
I rolled back to Win 7 and the card came back and all connectivity was restored. Re-installed win10 and back to the same issue.
I have a admin password. so when i put the pc in sleep mode it used to prompt for password in windows 8. But it seems in windows 10, it doesn't prompt for a password and goes directly to the os. How to put the password screen back in sleep mode?
Just installed Win10 on my 4 yr old HP G60535D. Now I have have to re-boot everytime I shut the lid. Played around with power settings, etc etc but no luck. When I first open the lid, I can hear the computer running, a slight mechanical burp of some sort, then nothing... totally blank screen. I have to hold the power button down to shut it off, then re-boot. A 1st world problem for sure, but kind of irritating.
Windows 10. while typing a email in outlook I try to open a word document. the machine immediate went into error mode saying there was a power problem and restarting my PC. tried with working word and opening another folder - same result.
Since I upgraded to 10 I have had constant issues. Mainly when I put the machine to sleep it wakes itself up automatically.
I have banned all deviced from allowing it to wake, removed it from any workgroups and a million other fixes I have seen online. Yet I can't get it to stay asleep.
After viewing logs this file: NvStreamKms.sys is set to "demand start" and the next entry is the computer waking.
My Windows 10 machine is stuck in Shutting Down mode and will not respond to any action, including turning it off. When I turn it back on it is still in Shutting Down mode. How do I get out of this mode, and what causes it?
I have a Dell OptiPlex 9020 w/ Win10 Enterprise. When monitors sleep the machine will not wake. It is in a hard locked position and have to hard reboot the machine. The machine only locks up when the monitors are asleep. Hibernation and or Sleep has been turned off.
I have a HP Envy that is only 11 months old. I installed Windows 10 not too long ago and now I am experiencing issues with the sleep mode function. I have tried many other suggestions in power troubleshooter and other "fixes", but nothing is working.
Here's the issue. When my laptop enters sleep mode, I cannot wake it up. The keyboard is unresponsive with the exception of the backlight key. No matter what I do, I cannot wake it and this includes Ctrl + Alt + Delete. The power button remains lit, but the screen remains black and will not wakeup. The only way to fix this is to hard reboot the laptop by holding the power button down until it shuts off and then reboot it.
Through msconfig I added safe boot with networking, however when I restart with F8 networking does not boot up. Took a while to even find how to get that far and then it didn't work right.
so im placing the computer in sleep mode sometimes it goes to sleep and then wakes up after 1 min or it just turns of the screens. i found it in the event viewer i think i turned of almost everything in device manager so that the devices can't wake the computer.
Running a Dell XPS 15, (L502X). Upgraded from 7 to 10 Pro yesterday. Played around a bit with the new OS and then went off to other things. Laptop went into sleep mode after 15 minutes as it always has. But this time I couldn't wake it up. Required me to power off the unit, then power it back on. Same thing happens now each time the machine goes to sleep mode.
The brightness in my pc cannot be changed so i searched the internet until i found a solution and when i did the instructions i found out that Sleep mode has been removed from my PC.
Since I upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7 my pc every night wakes its self from sleep mode. I did the command prompt and it said a wake timer was waking my pc, I have been unable to find a wake timer. How to fix this?
In Power and Sleep I have set sleep mode to be entered after a certain time. It does not enter sleep mode as set. If I ask it to enter sleep mode on the power down option it will activate sleep but when I return to the computer later it has already turned itself on.
My pc with windows 10 pro version 1511 goes not in sleep mode.
When i press the sleep button on the keyboard it worked.
Set i the pc so that i must go to sleep mode after 1 min. The screen will be black but he pc does not go to sleep . None.

I have a Dell XPS 9100 machine that is triple boot, Win 7 SP1 Drive on C (this is the OEM OS), and Win 8 (not 8.1) on Drive I, and Win XP SP3 on Drive D.
I would like to do a upgrade of the Win 7 SP1 Ultimate drive C to win 10 pro th2-10586. How I might do this and keep my triple boot intact?
I have been an insider since the program started and have run win 10 pro on several VM's on my win 8 OS. I also have Two Retail win 10 pro USB drives (10240) that I'm sitting on.
Would it be better to upgrade the OEM OS or do the upgrade from one of the retail USB drives and then let it update to th2-10586?
I have a few laptops, all of them are the same specs except for a few with a different GPU. All of them run the exact same software. I'm planning to upgrade them all manually to 10 first to register the machine, then create an image so in case a drive goes belly up, I'll just restore it from the image created instead of installing all the software one by one. I'm going to take one machine, sysprep it then keep a copy of that image for restoring on to the other machines. In this case would it just reactivate properly on the newly cloned machine?
Assume a computer with the UEFI firmware interface.
Assume that during or after a user has upgraded a W8.1 machine to W10 things go horribly wrong - Black screen, Blue screen, No screen. The user now tries to Boot from a USB Emergency Boot Disk that they previously created using the W8.1 utility and then they try to restore W8.1 from a System Image Backup (the one in File History) that they previously created.
Will this be possible and will the Product Key in the UEFI firmware allow a reinstall of W8.1 after a W10 upgrade...?
I just bought an HP Pavillion 15 ab15nr laptop with windows 10 and messed up the install of my programs. The factory recovery partition is untouched and as far as I know intact. How do I go about returning the machine to its factory condition using the Recovery Partition and starting over again? Boy, I miss having a Win7 type installation disk.
