Installation :: No Longer Dual Boots Properly?

Prior to a couple days ago, my system was setup in a dual boot configuration, with Windows 8.1 (not set as Default, but technically my "primary"), and the Windows 10 Technical Preview (Default) which I used to play around with as a sort of clean work environment. OS's were installed on physically separate drives.
A couple days ago, I successfully updated my 8.1 installation to 10. Dual boot still functioned properly, although this upgrade reset the 8.1-now-10 to Default OS.
Shortly after, I decided to wipe the Technical Preview drive, and do a clean install of the now-released 10, and reset my whole little work environment. After installation was completed, I immediately noticed that no boot menu presented itself, even for a moment. Additionally, in the Advanced System Options/Startup & Recovery, no other OS choices appear.
For some odd reason, there was ONE thing I did differently during this installation though: Normally, on a clean install, I will delete ALL existing partitions on a given target drive, and allow the setup to recreate them. However, this time -- possibly because the new-ness of 10 had me slightly confused -- I deleted only the primary data partition that contained the Tech Preview install, but left the System Reserved and OEM Reserved partitions. I'm unsure if this is the source of my troubles or not.
Regardless, as of right now, I'm unable to access my original 10-upgraded installation, and getting this restored.
As I'm sitting on a clean install of my 2nd OS, I've no problems with wiping it and trying again.

I have 4 partitions.
1 => System Reserved
2 => Win 10
3 => Win 8.1
4 => Storage
When I try to boot into the win 8.1 it gives me an error. Even after restoring the win 8.1. partition from a Macrium image.
What gives? Two days ago I decided I wanted to shrink the win 8.1 partition.
I made a macrium image of my Win 10 partition (because I'm not crazy) and I already had a macrium image of win 8.1. I started shrinking the 8.1 and the computer went unresponsive so I rebooted. I used EASEUS Partition Manager.
I found out later that the reason the computer halted was because the version of EASEUS I used was outdated.
I attempted to boot into 8.1 and was greeted with the error. (Will update this post presently with the picture.)
I updated EASEUS and successfully shrunk the 8.1 partition. I took that unallocated space and enlarged the WIN 10 partition. Still unable to boot into 8.1.
Used macrium to overwrite the 8.1 partition.
Computer refused to boot completely. No Win 10 or Win 8.
Macrium restored the Win 10 partition, and the Win 8.1 partition. Discovered something interesting. Macrium restored the partitions as if I had never shrunk the 8.1 partition and enlarged the Win 10 partition. Is it supposed to do that?
Still unable to boot into Win 8.

I created a dual boot system quite some time ago and all was well until.RTM partition was completely up-to-date. I had recently updated to Windows 10 Build 10251 on the Insider partition.I turned the machine off on Sunday January 31, left town, and returned Saturday February 6. All was well with the dual boot when I turned the system off before leaving. When I turned the system on last night, it booted directly into the Insider Partition. There seems to be no option to boot into the RTM partition.

I bought this tablet a week ago, it is an Acer One 10 s1002-145A. Earlier today I checked for updates, and tried to download the update to the new build. It never got past 0% downloading.
There were a lot of other strange problems that just started happening today also, when I would try to access links from the Control Panel, the screen would just become inactive - I was unable to interact with or close that window. This happened when I attempted to System Restore also. Attempting to open a CMD prompt as an Administrator would yield no results, except eventually an error message would appear telling me that the CMD window "failed to execute in a timely manner" (or something close to that).

I just bought a new 2tb HDD to replace my ancient 160gb one. Since I'm overall very happy w/ my Windows 10 installation I decided to clone instead of install fresh and used Macrium Reflect to clone the drive. Upon switching from the old to the new one, I was disappointed to encounter a bluescreen boot error, after the Windows logo and spinning symbol had been displaying for a few seconds: Error 0xc00000e, system_service_exception. Trying to boot into any variety of safe mode gives the same result. I didn't think this was an MBR issue based on how far into the boot process it happened, but I tried repairing / rebuilding the MBR anyway and it didn't change the problem.
The weird thing is that when I plugged in my old drive to boot to it and troubleshoot, my system actually booted to the new, clone drive, and it works perfectly - exactly like the old one did - but it only works like this with the old drive plugged in.

Obviously the new drive is the larger C:, which is correctly flagged as system, active, primary, etc. D: is the old drive. (Before I cloned and switched, the old drive was C.)
I suspect the issue might have to do with the un-lettered 450mb recovery partition I didn't clone over from the old hard drive, but I'm not sure. Everything looks to me like the C: drive should boot on its own, but it just doesn't.

I recently started trying out Windows 10. It's buggy and frustrating, but it's still in preview mode, so... That's expected.
Nothing was working when I installed build 10074 off disc, so I installed build 9926 off a disc (I got the iso from MSDNAA, I'm a programming student) then upgraded via settings to 10074.
During the upgrade, my laptop started resetting, normal. But halfway through, the resets stopped working.
The screen switches off, the cd drive switches off and the hdd activity light switches off, but the power stays on, and the fan keeps running. It also doesn't switch off on shutdown either.
I finally have a working version of Windows 10, minus Cortana and Spartan (I'm in Aus), but now my laptop won't shut down.
Could it be drivers? Is it OS interference? Is there a way to fix it without uninstalling and re installing Win 10? I really cbf going through all that again...

This morning I started the windows creation Tool to download Windows 10 ISO to do a clean install. About 10 minutes into the download the machine lost power. I rebooted into the machine and tried to run the Tool again, but all I get is "Setup couldn't start properly. Please reboot your PC and try running Windows Setup again". So, I rebooted and all I get in the same message. What can I do to fix this?

I have win10 64 installed on my SSD and win10 32 bit on a HD. The SSD is GPT partitioned and the HD MBR. I can boot from the Windows boot loader in the BIOS into 64 bit windows on the SSD and, by selecting the appropriate HD in the BIOS into the 32 bit windows in the HD. I cannot figure out how to get that boot menu (either gui of text based) that I have read about in the forums. Do I need to convert the HD to GPT as well. Do I need to change anything to get this to work?

I have Windows 10 and 8.1 dual booted but I’m having trouble removing 8.1. 10 is on a Seagate 2TB HDD, and 10 is on a Samsung 2TB HDD. Both are SATA and my motherboard is BIOS. As long as the Samsung (8.1) is drive 0 and is boot’s first choice, all is well. I get the option to select either OS, and either one can be made default.
In attempting to remove 8.1 I have tried several things like making the Seagate drive O, removing power from the Samsung, swapping boot choice, but always fail and I continually get, “an operating system wasn’t found” no matter the disk or boot sequence, except the one above.
Included are jpg’s of disk management while in Windows 10, both disk and volume views. How to decouple 8.1?

I attempted to set up a dual boot configuration using my existing Win 7 Pro on a Samsung SSD drive, and a clean install of Win 10 Pro on a fresh Kingston SSD drive. I created bootable Windows 10 installation USB, reset the UEFI Bios boot order and proceeded with the install. Win 10 installed, however it would not recognize the Win 7 Pro drive. I checked the UEFI Bios again, and the Samsung SSD was no longer shown in the "Fixed Boot Order Priorities". However, it was listed under "Hard Drive BBS Priorities", and under "Boot Override". It also shows up in Win 7 in the drives listings.
My motherboard is a MSI Z97 Gaming 5, with Click Bios 4 v1.9.
I must also mention, my Samsung SSD with Win 7 Pro was set up not with UEFI but Legacy boot. This was my first mobo with UEFI, so I made that mistake due to my ignorance.
I reformatted the Kingston Win 10 drive. Rebooted, but got error message that boot device not found. I rebooted and hit F11 to get back into Bios. A popup box gave me a listing of bootable devices and the Samsung SSD appeared. Selected it and it booted into Win 7 no problem. I went back into the Bios, but the Samsung SSD still not listed. I shut down the system, unplugged the Kingston SSD, rebooted, went back into Bios, and the Samsung returned.
I then shut down the system, connected the Kingston into a different SATA port, rebooted the system, went back to Bios, and the Kingston remains unlisted in the "Fixed Boot Order Priorities" as before, but shows up in "Hard Drive BBS Priorities", and under "Boot Override". It also shows up in Win 7 in the drives listings. Remember that the Kingston is just formatted, no op system installed on it.
I set up the Win 10 install on the Kingston SSD as a legacy drive too. Another question I will ask is can you have one operating system on a legacy drive and one on a UEFI drive in the same PC?

I have Win 10 as the second of a dual boot with Vista. Each is on it's own hard drive. If I remove the Vista drive then win 10 won't boot as it is looking for winload.exe. Is there a way I can give it access to the winload.exe it is looking forand then uninstall Vista? If this cannot be done it isn't a big problem weaving Vista active, I just don't need it anymore.

I was running win 7 (64bit) pleasantly but decided to install Win10, did all the needed stuff for getting dual boot setup.Win10 booted fine, when selected from dual boot menu, but I have many issues on win10, Lenovo laptop is begging for mercy on win10 for many things, my android phone gets disconnected every few seconds if I use youtube, laptop becomes sluggish. USB3 will not install, which worked in win7 earlier.
Fed up with win10, even after disabling driver signature, making sure every driver is correct which I am installing, but this laptop hates win 10 as of now.Now if I choose to run win7, lappy reboots and thats a LOOP. my win7 installation is shown in Drive letter E: while windows 10 is shown in C: What would be the safest way of Re-installating win 7 on E: without loosing the following the crappy win 10 of c:/ dual mode option on win 7 +10
What I want is to run win7 setup which has SP1 integrated and still be able to boot in win10 if I needed later.I have activation keys for both provided by my office which is based on volume licensing.

I have a PC with win 10 x64 installed. It is a new PC with UEFI firmware and secure boot enabled, though I can disabled it very easily.
I want to installed Win 7 x86 (32bit) on a second hard drive and have it dual-boot config with the current Win 10. I know I have to disable secure boot for installing 32 bit, but Im concerned about the process of installing Win 7 AFTER the already installed Win 10.
How can I go about doing this without losing access to my Win 10? I need to install win 7 for compatibility reasons.

I have a Acer Aspire XC-603G desktop upgraded to Windows 10 64bit Home (no Hyper-V). I want to run 16 bit software that is incompatible. I would like to dual boot with Vista x86 (gave away my XP). From what I understand, you must load the older version first due to Windows 10's MBR. Can I backup/clone Windows 10 partition, reformat and repartition the HDD, install Vista in first partition, then restore Windows 10 to the second partition? I'm thinking I'll need a fresh Windows 10 install. Or is there a simpler way? The only other way I see is to buy the Pro upgrade to get Hyper-V. And if I did the latter would it really be compatible with my Windows 95 16bit ImageReader Scanner software?

I recently (clean) installed Windows 10 on a new SSD. Windows 7 resides on my first drive.
1) I first set the USB to boot from;
2) Began to install Windows 10;
3) First snare: upon first reboot, after removing the USB, the system just started my old Windows 7 (!). (I expected a dual boot menu there.)
4) Rebooted, set SSD to first disk, and finished installing Windows 10;
5); Tried to add boot menu later (both in Windows 7 and Windows 10), using the Advanced System Settings, to no avail: neither OS sees another boot partition.

I've just built my desktop and I'm trying to dual boot Windows 10 and Ubuntu 15.04.
I've already partitioned my hard drive, and installed Windows 10 and Ubuntu 15.04, but I'm trying to get to a place where I can choose what OS to start whenever I turn on my computer.
At the moment, I can run both Windows 10 and Ubuntu 15.04 if I go into the BIOS and rearrange my boot priorities, but that's just a huge hassle. Is there a convenient way to choose at startup, similar to how Windows 8 had this?

I have the ESD for Windows 10 built 10240 . I need to clean install it on a different drive and dual boot it with Windows 8.1. Can I simply boot with the 10 ISO (in UEFI boot) and clean install it on a different drive?
Would I then be able to dual boot it with my activated 8.1 copy?

I have Windows 10 installed on HD1 (Samsung) and working will. I had a second HD2 (WD) with Win7 installed for a dual boot operation. For some reason, I could never successfully boot into Win7. Out of frustration I decided to format the Win7 drive and start over.
The problem now is I cannot install Win7 on the HD2 drive. When I choose F12 on boot up and select the WD disk, a screen appears saying "Windows Boot Manager" It instructs me to insert my Win7 install disk an reboot.
Next steps:
I insert the Win7 install disk and reboot using F12 to select the WD disk. The "Windows Boot Manager" screen appears again with the same instructions as above! If I reboot again and do nothing, the system will boot to Windows 10.
My question, how to install Win7 on the WD disk and then setup a dual boot operation?

I want to install Windows 10 as dual boot with Windows 8.1. Both are x64.
Is it possible to install Windows 10 from the ISO? I know you can upgrade that way. But I want to do a clean install AND install alongside Windows 8.1.

I had been dual-booting between win 7 and win 10. That part was working fine, but I was unhappy wth my win 10 installation. So I erased the partition and reinstalled it. First sign of trouble: It didn't detect my win 7 installation. But it was there (I already got files from it). I installed EasyBCD, added the entry for win 7, saved the set up, then wrote the MBR with the new entry. Went to MSConfig to doublecheck. Both entries were there. I restarted, and it booted straight into Win 10. EasyBCD no longer had the win 7 entry. Neither did MSConfig. Went through the whole process again. Same problem at restart. And it wasn't fastboot, I could see the BIOS entry, etc.

I have dual booting setup on my pc my main system and my development system but to get the development system my computer first boots the main one then asks me which os i would if the main one it goes right to as it already loaded but if it is the development system it will restart and load that, so my pc has to boot twice. Is there a way from the main system some how i can restart straight to the other one. Both os are windows.
