Installation :: System Seems To Crash After Or While Updates Are Being Installed
Sep 11, 2015
Running windows 10 my system seems to crash after or while updates are being installed. Yesterday after getting it up again I somehow found a list of failed updates. Today I cannot find them. Where the list of successful or failed updates can be found?

Anyhow I am currently using windows 7 (not a fan of windows 8). Since windows 10 is released I wanted to install and try it. Initially I installed windows 8.1 in my D: drive (works normally as far as I can tell), and upgrade it to windows 10. I am keeping my windows 7 in drive C: as I do not have any other working computer if the installation failed.
So halfway upgrading from windows 8.1 to windows 10, the upgrade failed and a restart is needed. When restarting I tried to reset the installation but even that is failed. When restarted again there is no operating system in that drive (drive D: ) ??
Currently I tried to reformat my drive D: (windows 10) with my current windows 7 (installed in drive C) but it says the volume is in use by another process but it refused.
Summary
Drive C: - windows 7, still functioning properly
Drive D - where windows 8.1 is located and upgraded to windows 10 but failed, currently cannot detect any os when I boot from drive D: , and cant format the drive.
I know its really complicated the way i installed my windows 8.1 with my windows 7 intact, but I'm worried if the installation failed, I have no backup computer to fall back.

I cleaned installed Win10 Pro using the Media Creation Tool and how come I only got 3 updates? I am assuming I would get more updates than these.
Running version 1511 build 10586
Is it because Win10 is too new ???
And I kept pressing the Check for Updates button and it said no more new updates.

I think we can now all agree: Microsoft ’s hardline policy on Windows 10’s forced updates is silly. Very silly. Since launching nine days ago Windows Update has sent out an unstable graphics driver which switched off monitors, a buggy security patch which corrupted Windows Explorer and there are now a number of reports that a third update is causing Window 10 machines to crash over and over again…
The patch in question is KB3081424 (ironically enough a roll-up of bug fixes) and during its update process affected users find it fails and triggers the message: “We couldn’t complete the updates, undoing the changes.” Undoing them results in a mandatory system reboot, but as soon as the user logs back on Windows 10’s update process kicks in and tries to install KB3081424 again.
I’m sure you’re way ahead of me here, but since Windows 10 updates cannot be stopped KB3081424 tries to install over and over again which leaves systems caught in endless reboot loops.

Ok . I am getting random system lockups, can happen anytime. Sometimes using when using chrome or just on desktop. Happens most often when windows is on login screen, or sometime right before windows loads. Playing any game I have will cause crash to desktop. Crash time varies from game loading screen to playing game for a few minutes.
So far I have reinstalled windows 3 times. I have replaced motherboard because it crashed during bios update, thus ruining mobo, tried different power supply also. After installing windows I have installed latest drivers that I could find, didnt seem to make any difference from the drivers that were loaded when windows was first installed. I did notice that after I installed pc matic I got constant BSOD, So I uninstalled it. fewer BSOD But still have lockups and game crashes.
I have ran memtest for 24 hours with no errors, also ran tests on ssd and hdd drives with no errors.

I have a problem with a video driver that wants to be installed, but when it's installed the system becomes unstable (it can hang or automatically restart). This is a long standing problem on certain ASUS notebooks with certain NVIDIA display adapters. The driver is for the NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GT display adapter on an ASUS M70Vn with a 64-bit architecture. I am currently using the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, which provides a stable environment and works good enough for my purposes.
How can I prevent the NVIDIA driver from being installed with the Windows updates? In earlier versions of Windows (for example, Windows 7), you could select which updates to install by putting a checkmark in front of the updates you wanted installed. Not so with Windows 10. All you get is a list of updates that are available and a click-box that says "Install now". I'm running Windows 10 version 1511 (OS Build 10586.0).

I installed windows 10 and it worked fine for the 1st day then it went nuts. I tried to restore it can't find a restore point. I tried to recover and I can't find the back up disk. I tried reseting and that didn't work. I don't know what else to do.

Windows 10 x64
As I have multiple retail license keys, I am unsure which one is in use right now.
There are 3rd party key finders that may show the key in use, but I prefer to obtain the key using Windows own tools, if possible. For instance using a CMD.(Am uncertain about these 'key finders': can they be trusted?)

I just bought a new Asus F555LA-AB31 with Windows 10 from amazon and after about a couple days, the speaker icon in the system tray has a little red X near it. And when hovered over it, it says no audio output is installed. I've tried a multitude of fixes, including reinstalling audio driver, using system restore and restarting Windows audio from services.msc, and none of them work.
My PC Specs:
Intel core i3 5010u
4gb ram
Realtek hd audio

I have been facing the File System error (-2143326205) ever since I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.
Error description: All Windows Store Apps (Metro/modern/whatever they are called now) crash when I am not online. The Photos app is by far the only app that has given me an error dialog box. I can assume that all apps are crashing for the same reason because all of them start working again when I get back online.
I am not a great fan of these modern apps and the user interface clutter caused by them and hardly use them. But there are some games like Minesweeper that I want to play when I am on the go. I dunno why Microsoft even made calc a modern app (can't even multiply big numbers when not connected).
So far, I have not been able to find a proper solution to this problem. I guess it is a problem in Windows 10 itself and it will take a while for Microsoft to set it right. But I have an idea. Is there any software that creates a fake internet adapter that is always connected to the internet so that the apps think that I am online and don't crash? Is there an actual working solution?

I did an in place upgrade of Windows 7 using a USB key made with the tool Microsoft put out. I chose not to download updates during the install, so after the initial boot, Windows started downloading updates. I reinstalled the latest nVidia drivers/Geforce Experience as well. During the next boot cycle, at some point explorer crashed and the screen flashed black, at which point that process repeats forever. I let it go over an hour just to see what would happen. URL...
The suggestion on that site is to disable 2 Windows Services: Problem Reports and Solution Control Panel Support and Windows Error Report Service. This didn't work for me, though it appears to have worked for many others. The culprit for me was Apple's iCloud service. As the taskbar was being populated, this task would load and throw an error message about logging in, at which point the crash loop began. Uninstalling this program solved the issue for me.

I just installed a new SSD (disk 1) on my laptop and used Samsung's tool to clone my OS drive (C: on disk 2) onto it. This was done with no error, however I cannot boot from the new SSD in bios, as this hangs up the computer.
I assume this has to do with C: still being the boot and active partition, and the system partition (also active) being on Disk 0 (HDD).
I attached my disk management screenshot for reference.
How to make my new SSD (disk 1) the boot drive? For info, I do not have a windows OS CD but already created a windows 10 repair disk.

I've just bought a new SSD (Samsung EVO 850 250GB) for my Dell XPS 15 (L521x). After I inserted it into my laptop i intalled Windows 10 Home Pro. The installation process happened without any error, the laptop restarted several times (which is normal during the installation) and then booted to the desktop. again, no error whatsover. now, when i try to turn off or reboot my laptop, it is not able to power off automatically (i've waited for over an hour). so i have to power it off forcefully by pressing the power button for several seconds). if i want to reboot the laptop, it gets stuck at the dell logo, the little circle is spinning but nothing else is happening. i have updated all drivers, tried to boot into safe-mode, nothing worked
The current bios version is up to date (A16), SATA operation mode is AHCI, according to Samsung Magician (which i was able to install) everything is configured correctly.

Got a perfect upgrade from Win7 Pro to Win10 Pro for any programs that were on the boot disk. However any programs that were loaded on a second (non-bootable) disk were not recognized at all. Is there any way, other than reloading all those programs, to get Win10 Pro to know they are there? I thought this would be caught when the system upgraded but this did not happen. I was trying to keep my boot drive lean and mean.

I have a Acer Aspire XC-603G desktop upgraded to Windows 10 64bit Home (no Hyper-V). I want to run 16 bit software that is incompatible. I would like to dual boot with Vista x86 (gave away my XP). From what I understand, you must load the older version first due to Windows 10's MBR. Can I backup/clone Windows 10 partition, reformat and repartition the HDD, install Vista in first partition, then restore Windows 10 to the second partition? I'm thinking I'll need a fresh Windows 10 install. Or is there a simpler way? The only other way I see is to buy the Pro upgrade to get Hyper-V. And if I did the latter would it really be compatible with my Windows 95 16bit ImageReader Scanner software?

Trying to dual boot build 10130 iso on a fresh install of 8.1. Received a message:"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is not of the GPT partition style"
Laptop is an Asus x550c.
System recovery to Asus factory default.
Asus has a default 4 Partition setup. I added a 5th, Partition 6, by shrinking Partition 4
Looks something like this:
Drive 0 Partition 3 128MB MSR (Reserved)
Drive 0 Partition 4 OS 395GB Primary
Drive 0 Partition 5 451MB Recovery
Drive 0 Partition 6 New Volume 48GB Primary
Drive 0 Partition 7 Restore 20GB Recovery
I'm using the new Build 10130 iso which just came out.I don't want to use a VM like I have on a Desktop.
