Installation :: Trying To Go Back To Win7 After Upgrade
Sep 25, 2015
I'm trying to rollback to Win7 after Win10 update. I've got some hardware that I want to use that's not compatible.
I've tried going to recovery and 'Go back to Win7' but it's telling me I need to delete the users I've created. The problem is that I removed the original user from Win7 so it wants me to delete the two users I created with Win10. Is there another way to uninstall? I know I won't be able to delete all users and I don't know how I can recreate the original account.
I do have a backup of my windows 7 install before I upgraded. Is my license still going to work or will it be inactive due to the upgrade?

Using an Asus CM8730 desktop with Win7. Purchased a Samsung Evo 850 SSD and used Samsung Migration software to move Win7 to the SSD from the HD that came from the computer. All went well, the computer boots very fast from the SSD. After about a month of use I decided to upgrade to Win10 but each time I've tried I got the same message: "Windows 10 couldn't be installed. We couldn't update the system reserved partition."

I upgraded from windows 7 ultimate to windows 10. It seemed to install okay and asked me to log on and select setup preferences, which I did. I left it alone to finish setup and it went to sleep. Now I only get a black screen with an active cursor. I've tried multiple hard restarts, entering logon blindly as suggested in other posts and using windows key-p to switch monitors all to no affect. Ctrl-alt-del has no effect. I cannot bring up any screen and so cannot start in safe mode or download video card drivers. I do not have Windows 10 on media.

upgrading a Vista PC from a hard drive that came out of my Win7-Win10 laptop. (The laptop mobo-gpu burned up)
I want to upgrade the Vista PC to Win7-Win10 because apps I use run better on Win7-Win10. Also, MS will support Win7-Win10 longer into the future than Vista.
****************
The Vista PC is a Gateway DX4710-09
(about 5 years old, works great)
Vista Home Prem x64 SP2
586 gig hdd with 435 gig free
6 gig ram
Win7 Update Advisor says OK to upgrade.
*****************
The Win7-Win10 laptop HDD came from a Gateway NV7310u
(about 4 years old, the hdd works great, the laptop mobo-gpu burned out)
Win7 Home Prem x64 successfully upgraded to Win10 via the free upgrade
250 gig hdd with 125 gig free
******************
I made a DVD of Win7 sp1 x17-58997.iso

I have a Sabrent USB-DSC9 hard drive adapter

My father hit yes to upgrad his HP Probook 6407b from Windows 7 to Win 10. He did not realize what he was saying yes to.He brought it to me before it finsihed. I got into win 10, but then had issues with HP security software at boot. It would hang at boot, say something about a finger print reader, and then allow me to log in. So I decided to revert back to win 7. that failed. Goes to try a startup repair and it does not work. It looks like win 7 trying to do it and not 10.
Is there any way to recover either win 7 or 10?I tried a win 10 usb drive, but it says the upgrade was previously started in windows, turn off machine and restart, but that fails.

Recently upgraded to w10 from w8.1 via the upgrade option, then proceeded to make a USB boot with w10 and performed a clean install.
However, something is fishy with my system and w10 so for now i want to revert back to w8.1 via a clean install of w8.1
When i installed w10 however i noticed i have an abundance of partitions, and preferably i would only like to have my SSD and HDD as optional storage spaces. I do of course not want to delete any necessary recovery or system partitions, but to me it seems like i currently have too many.
Which of the partitions in the picture below can i delete? Is it safe to delete all the recovery partitions when clean installing w8.1 from usb? meaning that will the installation create the necessary partitions required by windows?
See picture for info(gjenoppretting = recovery)

I installed Windows 10 dvd on an old notebook which was running vista(it means I cleaned the hard disk and installed Windows 10 dvd). However win 10 has a minor problems. I'm an insider, so I checked build 10240 and 10547(upgraded last week by windows update). When I checked with showkeyplus, it says "Windows 7 OEM marker present in firmware". I suspect it be embedded in SLIC, but I don't know how to get rid of the "marker".

Windows 10 downloaded to my laptop, and stated that it's ready for installation, etc. As I reboot my laptop, it just goes back into Windows 7. I can't seem to figure out why either. I also tried downloading the stand alone installer with no success either. It will just say installation failed.

I am currently running Win7 Ultimate service pack 1 and am trying to create an installation of Win10 on a flash drive before I replace some parts inside my PC that will require an OS refresh. Unfortunately I am stuck at this screen.
I am sure my OS version is activated and I have extracted my windows key via Magical Jelly Bean finder but it rejected that key.
P.S. any PC stats linked to this account are a different piece of hardware

I have a dual boot system in the following configuration:
HDD-0 = Win7 OS, HDD-1 = Win7 OS, WinXP OS. I have successfully booted into each of these operating systems - and the Win7 OS on HDD-1 is an exact clone of the primary OS on HDD-0.
I just upgraded the Win7 OS on HDD-0 to Windows 10 using the "Get Windows 10" process. I now get the new blue Boot Manger screen with all three OS's listed and I can successfully boot into Windows 10 and Windows XP. But I cannot boot into the Win7 OS on HDD-1 (which I could before the Windows 10 upgrade). How the upgrade even knew about the other copy of Windows 7, since it was not active and lives on another HDD is beyond me.
One strange thing - if I do a cold startup (power on) I get the new Boot Manger screen. But if I do a Restart from Windows 10, I get the old, black & white boot manger screen - and it does list all three OS's correctly, too.
The error message I get when trying to open (boot) the Windows 7 OS is: "LogonUI.exc - Entry point not found. RtlReleasePath could not be located in the ntdll.dll" And, like others, I now get the black screen with "Windows 7, Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine (but it was yesterday before the Windows 10 upgrade on the other HDD).
And like others, I can start the Crtl+Alt+Del to get the screen with users, Task Manger, etc. And, I can run all my applications by manually starting them in a New Task and browsing to the exe file - like Firefox.exe or Word.exe So, it looks like Windows 7 started and may be running. I just can't get into it.
I think both issues, the LogOn and the "Not Genuine" are both related to the Entry Point no located in the ntdll.dll.
At this point I really don't want to reload Windows 7 since it appears to be running and all the apps can be run manually.
All this happened after the upgrade of the other Win7 on HDD-0.

My laptop has dual boot - Windows 7 and Windows 10. My Win7 environment is my main working environment with lots of programs installed and important files. I installed the Win10 environment just to play around with 10 during the technical preview. Now, I would like to disable the 10 environment and upgrade the 7 to 10. Am I able to do this, or have I already "used up" my one upgrade on this computer's Windows license?
I notice that in Windows 7 I have not received the icon in the notification area that invites me to upgrade to 10. This makes me think I might have used up my chance to upgrade.
My end goal is to have a single Windows 10 environment. Note that the reason I want to upgrade my 7 environment to 10 is because I don't want to have to re-install all of my programs and files into the current 10 environment.

I have attempted to download windows 10 around 4/5 times, the download completes and states that my computer needs to restart upon which it claims it is configuring the windows 10 upgrade. I would assume from this point it would restart into the windows 10 configuration however each time I have tried it it restarts back into windows 8 as if nothing had happened.
My laptop then opens up windows update and says I am able to download windows 10. This is really frustrating as I can't even seem to get into the windows 10 setup.
As you can see I am attempting to download again but there is no trace at all of it attempting to install windows other than this failed update that you can see here.
I am using an HP Pavillion 15-n268a laptop.

I currently have Windows 10, which I received as a free upgrade when I had Windows 8 several months ago. Now, I have to wipe my hard drive, so I'll obviously be reinstalling Windows 8 once I have done so. Will it again give me the option to upgrade to Windows 10, or will I be forced to stick with the dreaded Windows 8?

I reserved the update. The next time I clicked Windows update it showed Windows 10 as an update option. I decided to wait 1 day because I had other work that I needed to focus on for the next few hours. The update choice for Windows 10 has disappeared. I clicked the link to reserve a copy again but nothing has happened and 2 weeks have gone by. So how do I get back the upgrade invitation and appropriate links?

I upgraded to Windows 10. I didn't like it. I reverted back to 8.1. Now, every time I turn my laptop on, the Windows Update screen pops up and starts installing Windows 10. I have changed auto update settings to ask me first, but to no avail. I even selected DO NOT check for updates, to no avail. How do I get this to stop?

I completed upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10. So far everything seems to be working great. I have a Macrium image of my C drive with Win 7 on an external HD. Can I create a new partition on my C drive and restore my Win 7 image there? That way I can dual boot to either OS. I have done some research and it appears to be a relatively easy thing to do, even for a computer dummy like myself.

I originally followed the path to upgrade my 8.1 Pro to Windows 10. Everything went fine and I created the USB during the process. Activation was OK.
Then after a few days and some unusual problems I reloaded my last Image of 8.1 Pro.
Question is Can I go back and just do a clean install since I have already did the upgrade process?

I'm trying to roll back to the OEM Win 7 on this machine. On the setting page "Updates & security" the options under "recovery" did NOT include rolling back to Win 7. The only choice was to roll back to the previous build. I thought perhaps I would have to work my way back to 7 build, by build. I started out with 10041, then 10130, then 10240. I clicked the "Back to previous build, hoping. Well, it went back to 10130 no problem. However, that is it. Going the Setting, Updates& Security route within this roll back of 10130 there is no way to keep going back to finally get back to Win 7.
