I have been working on my Nieces new computer for her Christmas what is the easiest way to delete my stuff from it? As mines broke down and went in for repair so I was using her's Ccleaner do the job?
View 8 RepliesI have a new laptop with C: drive a 128 SSD and D: a 1T.
I have upgraded to Win10 which is on the SSD. I also put Armored Warfare on that drive as well as Bitdefender. The drive had some stuff from Acer and I have deleted or moved some of it - some still left.
I would now like to download FireFox and put that on the SSD as well but only have 17GB left.
There is, of course, a ton of stuff in Win10 that I don't need or don't need on the SSD.
Is there any place I can go to find just what I can delete without causing a problem - Keeping in mind that I did delete some wrong things and had to re-download and start all over.
Also, what can I move to the D: 1T drive and how do I do so so that they still work?
I have a removable SSD as my windows drive to boot from. It has issues and I can't change any IP stuff on any of the network adaptors because I can't remove the VMWare Bridge Protocol.I have ordered a new SSD same brand and size. I plan to pull the old drive out (was upgraded from Win8.1 to Win 10) and pop the new drive in and start fresh. The other drive is there in case it does not work and I can just pop it back in.Plan to do a fresh install of Win 10. Now the question is will it activate okay and keep the other disk activated as well or will it fail to activate? I want to keep the old drive fully operational till I have everything transferred which may take a while.
View 2 RepliesSo I finally made a .iso file for W10 Pro x64 and started installing it. Everything went smoothly my PC restarted 2 times. But when it got to 81% (in total) while "Installing drivers and features" it resterted for the third time and then it started giving me the "Preparing automatic repair" and then "Diagnosing your pc" stuff. I was able to launch the automatic reapair and roll back to W7.
View 2 RepliesThere are 3 boxes that refer to Win 10 installation and when you try to delete them it says you will not be able to go back to your previous OS.It is substantial space as I believe one box contains something like x amount of GB's.I have imaged Win 10 so I think could delete them but isn't it more likely I should keep them in case I need to go back and an image failed? Is it subjective or is there a rule of thumb regarding this issue?
View 2 RepliesI just installed windows 10 onto my first SSD (Made it my master drive) and i'd like to delete every file and folder on my old HDD except the one in which all my games are installed (Not program files its a folder labeled "Games" in the root directory).
But I keep needing permission from "SYSTEM" Or "TrustedInstaller" to remove them. Do i have to use the "take Ownership" Regedit to do it? or is there some faster way?..
Also i do not have another drive to move the games to that would allow me to format the HDD.
Stupid question probably, however I cannot find an answer online and I'm not the most tech savvy.
I bought a HP laptop around Christmas last year. The laptop came with a recovery partition, which I still to date haven't got around to getting a 32gb drive to back it up to.
I stupidly left W10 installing this morning when my upgrade was offered, but am worried now that the partition with my recovery may be deleted and I may no longer be able to get that onto a drive in case I ever need to re-install the laptop.
I want to start afresh with Windows 10 and have a clean installation of it without my old cluttered files. Does the installation give you an option to delete your old person files?
View 3 RepliesI recently messed up a previous Win10 installation and had to use gparted (kept saying the drive was locked when I tried to use Recovery CD) to delete partition and start from scratch. Everything installed fine like before but now when I start up or restart laptop I get the option to boot either Windows 10(previous install) or Windows 10 on volume 2(new working install).
How do I get rid of that previous install option so i can go straight to boot up?
Currently, I have dual boot Win7 and Win10. And the only reason I have Win7 is because the drivers for a printer were not updated to Win10. Now recently HP did just that, and I no longer need Win7.
The way I have it set up is that I have Win7 on one partition, Win10 on another (100GB each) and the rest is Storage. Is it safe to simply remove and format the partition that has Win7 on it ?
Last night I wiped out my ASUS T100 tablet to clean install TH2. But there is a 7GB Recovery partition from Windows 8.1 that I can't get rid off using Diskpart.
View 9 RepliesI tried to download win10 twice with media tool but it reached ~75% and then its just gone without any error ... however this is not the problem.
I think the downloaded 75% are still stored on my C drive because i have a folder called $Windows.~WS its empty (there is folder called Source but also empty) but 5.26 GB in size (invisible data) .i want to delete it to save some space but im afraid that "get windows 10 app" is downloading in it and i dont want to delete it ( im still waiting for the notification though)so
1) is get windows 10 app downloading? knowing im still waiting the notification?
2) if 1 = true how to delete the media tool failed downloads?else if 1=false is it safe to delete the whole folder?
When i press Shift+Delete to delete any file, it doesn´t do anything except maybe 10 beeps, its the sound it makes for example when asking for something or some pop-up windows like that. Also when I try this, like at this moment, when writing this in Chrome (which is pretty hard, because of the following things), it does weird things like typing random numbers, deleting the text, skipping the like if I pressed the arrows or enter button, also it was going back in browsing, all by itself. It happens more after when I press Backspace or Delete.
I don´t know what is happening, can´t believe this is a Windows function i don´t know about or if I should be worried about my keyboard or maybe even a virus. (I am not using any downloaded antivirus).
My DELL Latitude laptop came with Windows 8.1 Pro x64 on it. I decided that I want to upgrade it to Windows 10 Pro x64.Before I did anything I used DELL Backup and Recovery to create a flash drive so I can always restore the PC back to factory if anything goes wrong during the upgrade process.
After creating the recovery media I used the Windows 10 upgrade wizard to upgrade to Windows 10 carrying over all of my existing files. I primarily did this so my Windows 8.1 Product Key which is injected into the motherboard would officially become a Windows 10 Product Key.Now I would like to do a 100% clean install of Windows 10 through a bootable Windows 10 USB flash drive that I just got done creating but have a few questions:I booted from the flash drive and went to Custom (Advanced) install and I am currently viewing all of the partitions:
Drive 0 Partition 1: "ESP" type: (System)
Drive 0 Partition 2: "DIAGS" type: (OEM)
Drive 0 Partition 3: "" type: MSR (Reserved)
Drive 0 Partition 4: "WINRETOOLS" (Recovery)
Drive 0 Partition 5: "OS" type: (Primary)
Drive 0 Partition 6: "" type: (Recovery)
Drive 0 Partition 7: "PBR Image" (Recovery)
Which of these are DELL related and which of these are just the additional partitions Windows automatically installs?Can I just delete them all and fresh install Windows 10 on Unpartitioned space?Is there any that are non operating system related and might be worth keeping like the DIAGS one?Will my DELL Backup and Recovery media rely on any of these if I delete them and then try to use it later on?Is there any use for any single one these anymore now that I have backup recovery media and will be going to Windows 10?
I guess I am having issues with Windows 10 Search. The first problem is when I enter a term in the search bar and the results pop up, the "Search My Stuff" option at the bottom of the results is basically dead. It does nothing when I click on it. And nothing happens when I hit Enter. So I am only see the very few items that show up in the pop up box.
I assume, and of course, could be wrong, the "Search My Stuff" button is similar to the See More Results link that was at the bottom of the Windows 7 & 8 search box that appeared after entering a search term. As I said, if it is, it ain't working, and if it's not, that leads to my next question.....
Is there an option to See More Results after entering a search term? How do you find all the files that meet your search term?
I can't take a screen shot because the search box goes away if I click on something else.
So not to long ago I had to go into my second steam and other games hard drive. I randomly found all of these files like program x86 and install.exe. I assume that these files are in their to install a backup of windows but I was wondering why they just randomly came up there and if there is a way to remove them or make them less disorganized.

I bought my pc on ebay last year and i'm on windows 8.1. I don't have the activation key and my windows is not activated so I can't get the free upgrade to windows 10. If I buy windows 10, how can I install it and keep all of the files and programs that I have now without losing anything?

View 9 Replies I bought a Dell inspiron I15RV laptop 2 years ago. It had windows 8, i upgraded to windows 8.1. The store was working fine. I was able to download apps and games. But unfortunately, few months ago my store stopped working. I tried almost everything but reset the computer. I did the wsreset.exe, sfc /scannow, restart the pc, etc but those didn't fix the issue. Even when I went to microsoft forums, the webpage does not load properly.
I thought upgrading to Windows 10 home might fix the issue. So I upgraded. But still, the issue is persisting and I'm unable to download apps and games from windows app store. And also the microsoft forum pages don't load properly. I am attaching some screenshots ..... One more thing, I have waited like 3 hours and it is still showing 0.0 mb downloaded in the app store.
My cortana bar seems to be missing some important stuff when I search. Regedit is completely absent when doing search for one.
View 1 RepliesSo, I am trying to upload a picture to this site, but every time I press "Choose File" nothing happens. The same goes for when I want to save a picture from anywhere online. I right click, press "Save image as..." and nothing pops up. It isn't that access isn't allowed because if I click and drag the image to my desktop I am able to use it, but nothing will pop up to save when I try to straight from the browser. I am using an admin account as well.
Also, any time I try to download anything, for instance, screenshot/photo-sharing software nothing happens when I press the button. I have a Pavilion dv7 HP, it is originally a windows 7 but I recently updated to a windows 10. I am not sure if the update had anything to do with this, but prior to it I never had this problem and I am only recently noticing it.
My windows is on C and my music is on Z. If I write one of my track's name into the search it doesn't say anything.Can I make the search find those things?
View 1 RepliesWin 7 did it, and Win 10 did. I have my downloads go to E:Downloads, like to keep them separate. Win 10 use to show first the files by date, and then any folders under them. Now it is showing all folders first and then the downloaded files. I have tried everything in the view/group by, and sort by to try and get it back to where it was but no luck.

View 4 RepliesThere is the option on many things in windows explorer, if you right click, "Pin to start" .. for instance.. say you have a folder you want to pin a shortcut to.. you right click that.. pin to start.. it should then appear in the start menu.. well on my system it doesn't..
I have to manually make a shortcut, then copy that to the program data or local users windows start menu folder for it to then be pinnable to start via the start menu..
I've noticed, if there is no internet connection on account login, Cortana cannot search for files and apps in my PC! When it's connected to internet (even for a few seconds), Cortana's (local) search works fine.
If you want to test, please try this:
1. Disconnect internet.
2. Sign out.
3. Sign in.
4. Still disconnected, open "Start" menu or Cortana and type
