I loaded the windows 10 upgrade on my HP G60 notebook and now the desktop home page just flashes between blank and showing my desktop icons. I am unable to do anything else with it. I have tried all the shutdowns and reboots but nothing is working. So basically I have a useless laptop that im not too happy about. I should also mention that I was running windows 7
View 7 RepliesI recently downloaded the Windows 10 upgrade and find when I switch to Internet Explorer , which I am told is included , the main page on IE refuses to load and I cant get into anything else . Is there something I should be doing to enable IE to work properly . It is listed in the Start Menu on Windows 10 so I assume I can use it .

View 7 RepliesOn my Win 10 Pro X 64 Laptop I go to Internet Options and would like to change the home page but the option to "use current" is grayed out. I use Firefox as my default browser and it opens the home page I want but in Edge I open the page I want to be the home page and the option to change it is grayed out. Everything I have tried this option is never available. So, How do I change this? Get the button to "use current" to be not grayed out?

View 1 RepliesHave run into a wired issue, and I'm not quite sure why. After upgrading to Windows insider build 10565 I am not able to open bing.com as my homepage in either Edge or Internet explorer 11. I can open any other page without issue, but not Bing. If I set google as my home page... first time every time, no problem, set it back to Bing...Can not find requested page pops in after about 30 seconds of trying to connect. Have cleared cache, run DISM diagnostics, nothing reports as an issue. If I set Bing as a Favorite in the favorites bar, open to google as my home page then click the link, it opens without issue, but when set as the home page... How to correct it.
Now it won't open from the favorites link either, same message: This page can't be displayed
Make sure the web address Bing is correct.Look for the page with your search engine. Refresh the page in a few minutes.
It's been a while since I have been on here since I haven't had many issues. But, I have ran into an issue with Internet Explorer 11. It won't let me change my home page to Bing and MSN. It says it's already set to Bing and MSN. But whenever I open IE 11, it pulls up my ISP's home page.

View 6 RepliesI was installing a new printer on a Windows 10 home computer today in an office. The other PC's I upgraded to Win 10 from 7, no problems. This PC is a relatively new one that came with 10 pre-installed when they purchased it. When installing the new printer a couple of the pc's (including this one), had a duplicate entry (I am thinking they must have tried to install it themselves at some point and failed, though they hadn't told me that).
On the other PC I was able to go into 'print management' and remove the duplicate entry, then reinstall and everything is fine. On the "new" PC however, 'printmanagement.msc' is completely missing. I tried bringing it up with the searchbar first, it didn't find it. So I went via the admin panel and there was no shortcut. Launching from cmd line did nothing. On the other computer I was able to find 'printmanagement.msc' in the system32 folder, but on this computer it is not present in that folder at all.
I did some searching on MS and Google, and only found instructions for installing the snap-in via Windows Server 2003/2008. How I can (re)install this component on that PC using Windows 10 Home? It seems odd to me that would be missing in the first place. Perhaps this is an easy answer and my GoogleFu is weak on this occasion, but I couldn't find any references to not having printmanager present on a native Windows 10 install. I didn't turn up any kind of download for it on the Microsoft site, but as I said, perhaps I'm just "missing" it.
I just realized I should have tried an sfc /scannow, but didn't think of that until I was writing this.
I was just wondering if it is possible to keep website as the home page but change the search engine to google? I current have the default homepage where all the news and everything are there as soon as I open edge. but I HATE bing as my search engine and would like to change it to Google search engine but keep the same home page is there anyway to do this?
View 1 RepliesFirefox 43.0.2 and Win 10 ... when use Cortana and speak 'Open Firefox', Firefox starts but does not open at the defined Home Page ... instead starts at a Google search with a search argument of "Open Firefox".
Firefox is defined to be the default browser and after FF starts the Home Page can be accessed by clicking the 'Home page icon'.
When FF is started without using Cortana, the Home page is displayed.
I've been running Windows 10 since it was released and nothing really has come up as a problem until last night, I was playing a game on the pc and I got some red dots everywhere, I figured nvidia crashed and thought nothing of it until my entire pc reset now I see a series of white dots on bios loadup and windows loads and just before it gets to the login, my computer resets. When it tries to get into repair mode I don't have any keyboard or mouse input, this is a build I made so I don't have any fancy oem recovery options ( and I was too dumb to make a backup disk).
My build has an nvidia gtx590 , and phenom II black edition, Asus mobo. I haven't d.l or installed any new hardware or software recently.
Every time I go to "This PC" section in my file explorer it never loads and is very slow. If I try to launch it from the Start I get what's shown in the pic. I can still navigate to other places on my drive and access the files as such but I cant use this section.
View 5 RepliesI have a Barebone PC (Gigabyte GB-BXI3H-5010) which was running Windows 8.1, and now it has been upgraded to Windows 10. I use this PC to run a home server with Plex media server and Plex Home Theater - so I've got it connected to the TV, and the PC is always on. So when I turn on the TV, I have to press any button on the keyboard or move the mouse for the graphics card to kick in, which is fine. But when it does, it goes to a blank desktop. There's nothing there. I can see the open apps listed in the start tray, but none of them open. I'm quite confused to be honest. It's connected via HDMI to an LG TV.
View 1 RepliesI have a home network with two computers running Windows 10 build 10130 and several computers running Linux.
Under Windows 7 and 8.1 all computers would connect to each other correctly for file and printer sharing.
Under Windows 10 I can only connect to the other Windows 10 computer.
I have checked out all settings in Advanced Sharing Settings.
Windows 10 went wrong Again! First I lost all my favorites, then my Computer experienced exceptions (what ever they are?) followed by random Crashes.
So I did a clean install using my ISO disc and tried to Install Page Plus X4 which was working fine before but it won't work now, even though I installed the latest patch.
I get told its an incompatible Programme, even though it worked OK before I did a clean install, with a note that says that Microsoft are looking for a Solution (you could have fooled me!) also I did the bit about using the Settings that worked on a Previous Programme but that didn't fix it either.
Also uninstalled and re installed the Programme but that didn't work either as did installing net framework.
Also when I get new emails, I am no longer getting advised of any new emails, so I have to keep checking my email box myself.
I looks like I may have to do yet another Clean Install.
I've tried turning off the Automatic Updates but that doesn't seem to work (maybe I'm doing it wrong, so how do I do that).
Yesterday When I found that 4Shared universal app is out, and clicked the link at the end of the article, it went to "Web Page is not available". Same thing happened today with "everquotes" app. And when I tried to find these apps in the app store, I couldn't. Is it an issue or there is another way to open up these links ?

Since upgrading to Windows 10 from 7, I ran into the same issue as [URL] ....
So I tried the catalyst scaling option for my desktop and this seemed to fix the issue for mostly everything, desktop and most games, However, the problem still seems to arise with some games I try to play, such as Xcom Enemy Within or Dawn of War 2. Changing resolution in these games doesn't appear to have any effect, the image is still falling off the screen, I use my desktop on a 32 inch TV as opposed to a monitor via HDMI, and keep it set to 1600x900 as opposed to its native 1920x10180, but even leaving it at 1920 has the same effect.
I have my specs on a dxdiag file, dunno where to upload it here, but I'm using a AMD Radeon R9 200 Series on an Asus I built.
I have a desktop computer, it was working fine almost a year and now from a few days I am having a serious issue and that is when using my computer (generally or during gaming) it displays an error i.e PAGE_FAULT_FOUND_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA. The screen turns pink and the edges are green (that's probably because of the resolution as I use 3840x2160 so the error kinds of destorts) but that's not the real issue, the main problem is the error itself.

Random apps are not showing up in the "All Apps" section of the Start Menu after installing a clean version of Windows 10 (not an upgrade), and re-installing all my favorite software, In other words, finding a launcher to countless programs now means visiting "C:/Program Files/WhateverRandomSoftware/launcher.exe." Well, that;'s no fun.

Had problems with Firefox. Tried to download to replace existing Firefox. CNET site appeared to be correct but something seemed wrong so I killed the download. But.
- The windows start menu doesn't come up when I click on the icon, but if I right-click, a text menu does appear and lets me, for example, shut down.
.- If I click on the Windows End icon in the task bar, the screen flashes but End does not come up. Ditto for the Windows Store icon.
- Somewhere SpyBot S&D was erased, but I was able to download it.
- If I double-click on a photo in Windows Explorer, I get a popup that lists the name of the jpeg and says Invalid Entry to Registry. If I right click on the photo and go to any of the options the photo is opened except if I choose Photo.
- Firefox cannot properly display the Yahoo mail page, though Pale Moon and Opera can.
- I have Avast Anti-Virus and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and when I run their scans, they find no issues.
I searched my PC and was directed to the web, the information said that W10 did not yet provide the Menu bar facility but maybe in the future MS may offer it. I then played around again on my PC and did find away around the problem. Click the windows start icon / Settings / System / Default apps / Scroll down to Web browser / click Microsoft Edge / click Internet Explorer. With a bit of luck you should now have the Menu bar, albeit on IE. I am going to use it this way until MS provide it on MS Edge.

I have a Sony VAIO Intel Core 7 with 4GB of RAM. I recently updated my Windows 7 with Windows 10 w/o any problems.
I am not sure if I've been a victim of a scam or not, because this all happened after a support specialist connected to my PC ( don't ask me why I let them! its a long story ) and wanted to sell me their services that I wouldn't buy.
I realized something was wrong after I rebooted my PC because my memory was suddenly running above 90% even up to 99%! So I decided to load Windows in Safe Mode. Windows loads until you get to choose a profile. This is a home computer so I have two profiles on it. Neither one loads to the desktop even in Safe Mode. One has a password and one doesn't, I doubt that makes any difference but thought I should mention it just in case. I am not familiar with Windows 10 and don't know how resolve this. I don't have any CD's related to Windows 10 to try to use to boot up to the desktop.
My computer at this point is completely useless.
