Intermittent Black Screen Since Upgrade
Dec 6, 2015
Since upgrading to Windows 10 on my Acer laptop, after about 10 mins of powering up and using the internet, the screen goes black, as if shutting down, however, the power light remain lit. I then have to manually shut down and re-boot. There are no error messages or warnings apart from 1 time when I caught a very quick glimpse of "Windows is in recovery...", that's all I saw.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge with an Intel I5 processor, 64 bit with no hardware upgrades (stock). I had accidentally stepped on the screen (fell off my lap and then crunch) which was mangled beyond repair, so I have been using it similar to a tower, with a VGA and/or HDMI connected monitor (my HDMI cable went bad, I picked up a new cable but hadn't hooked it up to the second monitor. I started my free upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to 10 last night. I woke up to the black screen/mouse pointer issue which is what brought me to this thread. I tried the recommended fix:
1. Hit ctrl, type in password and enter
2. Win Key + P + Down Arrow. (Win Key + P only seems to do the same thing)
This brought up options to
1. Disconnect projector (Tried this and lost connection to the VGA even after reboot)
2. Duplicate (Screen is still black with mouse cursor, but I saw a little bit of red and blue pixels at the bottom where the task bar should be until I disconnected and re-connected the VGA, then it was back to black screen and cursor)
3. Extend (still black screen and cursor)
4. Connect Projector (still black screen and cursor)
I'm not sure what to do. I must have some OS installed, because I am able to also perform these operations from my USB Keyboard/Mouse. I'm just not sure how to get Windows back on my VGA connection (I haven't tried HDMI because I did not have it connected when I ran the update.) I thought Duplicate displays would do the trick, but apparently not. For as beat up as the laptop is on the outside, the hardware performs fine. I also have a 2nd laptop (work laptop, also a Lenovo W541) that I can use if any solution involves downloading something bootable.

After the upgrade I performed a "Reset this PC" with "Keep my files". Periodically the WiFi will die. No networks will appear in the list in the pane which appears when one clicks the icon at the bottom right. The fastest way to fix it is to click the left-most button twice, which seems to disable/re-enable and automatically reconnect to the network. I have checked the router. The problem is not manifesting on another Lenovo laptop upgraded the same way. I am using the latest available network driver. So far I haven't performed a clean install due to the time it will take.

I recently bought a refurbished Dell E6410 laptop running a new copy Windows 7 Home Premium. I did not get any discs with the purchase. I activated the Win7 copy with the provided product key and did all the updates. Then I received the invite to upgrade to Win10...which I accepted and installed it. Since then, I am unable to display Win10 (except once...more on that below). I don't get a black screen, instead I get a backlit black screen. Pressing F8 several times at power up does not work.
If I reboot the laptop 3 times, I get the blue Recovery screen with the error code 0xc0000001. My options are to press F8 for Startup Settings or Press Enter to try again. If I go into Startup Settings, I can get the 3 options for Safe Mode (as well as 7 other options). Even in Safe Mode with Networking, I cannot get to a Recovery screen. If I do the Press Enter try again, it goes back to the backlit black screen.
I came across a post on some website that suggested attaching the laptop to an external monitor so I attached it to my 40" Samsung TV using a VGA cable. Much to my overwhelming surprise and shock, up pops Win10 on the TV asking me to log in to Windows. I did and then it asked me to go through the wifi setup which I did successfully. I had a functioning version of Win10...only on the TV though. I went into settings and did "duplicate" screen so Win10 would show up on the laptop. It didn't. I did a Restart ...huge mistake!!!

So I've upgraded from windows 8 to 10, an upgrade not a clean install. Everything went well except the final part. When it said finishing etc. suddenly a black screen came and an error was shown. All I remember from the error was 'terminate the program'. Soon the error was gone and all I was left with was a black screen and the mouse cursor. Now the black screen comes up after the loading screen (the cursor as well).

I upgraded from windows 7 ultimate to windows 10. It seemed to install okay and asked me to log on and select setup preferences, which I did. I left it alone to finish setup and it went to sleep. Now I only get a black screen with an active cursor. I've tried multiple hard restarts, entering logon blindly as suggested in other posts and using windows key-p to switch monitors all to no affect. Ctrl-alt-del has no effect. I cannot bring up any screen and so cannot start in safe mode or download video card drivers. I do not have Windows 10 on media.

When I first setup the slideshow it worked fine. Then, out of the blue, it stopped working (due to an update I thought). But since then it comes and goes. It can work for a few hours but soon goes back to sleep mode instead of the lock screen slideshow!
I've triple checked the settings, uninstalled and reinstalled the slideshow, changed the image folder etc.
I've even changed and re-changed the NoLockScreen setting in the registry.
In short, nothing works.

Yesterday I got a notification that my windows 10 upgrade was ready on my MSI GT60-0NE laptop and decided to give it a try because I really disliked windows 8.1. Windows update went through downloading the files and preparing the computer for installation. It then did the usual, configuring updates on the blue screen, got to 100% and just shut down completely. I left it there for about 5 minutes and decided to try to power it back on. When turning the computer back on, it stayed on for about a minute and then cut itself back off.
After waiting a minute it turned back on, then back off again. It kept repeating this for about 5 minutes. During this phase I saw absolutely nothing on the screen, no MSI loading splash screen, no cursor, absolutely nothing at all. I couldn't enter the BIOS, couldn't run recovery or even get into safe mode. Absolutely nothing worked. The battery light was also flashing blue which I had never seen before. During this time the hard drive light was flashing and flickering the usual red light.
I did a hard reset on the computer and then turned it back on. When i powered it back on the screen was still completely blank, no MSI splash screen, no cursors, couldn't enter the BIOS or anything. During this time the hard drive light was a steady red. The blue battery light was no longer there and it was back to its usual constant red light. After about 10 minutes the computer turned itself off. Being frustrated I left it overnight and tried again this morning.
When I power the computer on now, there is no hard drive light. It doesn't even give a single flash of red. The computer will stay on but just stays there at the black screen. I've tried to look for solutions but I can't get anything to work. The only thing I can hear running is the fan.
I've tried to remove the hard drive and boot to see if I could get into bios, still a black screen.
I've tried removing the video card and booting to see if I could get anything through integrated graphics, still a black screen.
I've tried to plug the computer into another monitor, still a black screen but it does recognize the signal.
Specs for the GT60-0NE 403-US:
Intel Core i7 3630QM (2.40 GHz)
Nvidia GTX 680M (4GB)
Windows 8.1 64-bit (Windows 10 now?)

This has only started happening recently - every few boots, the screen choice between Windows 10 and XP appears with the wrong resolution. The image is small on the screen. If I select Windows 10, the full boot sequence continues with that resolution. However, if I select 'Advanced options' and then 'Continue to Windows 10', the resolution changes to the correct format.
A week or so back, I went back to a previous set point and that seemed to cure the problem. Then it returned.

For a couple of days, I am trying every solution from this forum, for windows 10 upgrade on my laptop Dell 15 L502x (early 2011) with windows 7 Home Premium. I tryed via Windows upgrade system tray icon (after restart - black screen, mouse pointer), then I tryed wit ISO on dvd/USB, same problem. After that I have disable one graphic card, then another, in both cases, same problem. Every time(when black screen come) I tryed with CTRL and then type password - no result. I have updated all my drivers, all updates are downloaded,

I did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.
It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?
The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.
Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times.

I'm running a Windows 10 Pro PC. My internet service provider is Charter Spectrum. They provide an Arris modem which only handles ethernet/phone connections (no wifi etc). My router is a Belkin F7D8302 Play N600 Wireless Dual-Band N Router. Since about 2 months ago I suddenly, and intermittently began to experience internet connectivity issues. Errors like DNS Probe Finished Bad Config started popping up for instance. The router I'm using has hardwired connections to:
-Modem
-PS4
-PS3
-PC
-SAMSUNG TV
It wirelessly handles connections through two bands (2.4GHz, 5GHz) with username and password:
-Mac
-iPhone
-Laptop (periodically)
I'm usually able to reconnect again by the following methods:
-Power cycling the Belkin Router
-If that's not enough, power cycling and going to Services on my pc and restarting the DNS Client.
Other possibly important details for my connection are that I have a VPN (PIA) which I sometimes use, although I don't always have it on, and I experience connection issues even with it off. I mention it because as I understand it, when the VPN software installs it adjusts network settings as needed. In addition to this, my university requires certain security settings for network to be active in order to access my university email account on the windows mail app (which ones I don't know) and this could also affect the network configuration. Finally, a detail I've noticed is that the 5GHz connection will usually disappear during the connectivity issue, and the 2.4GHz connection will be found, but no device can connect to it.
I can honestly say that networking is not my strong suit when it comes to PCs, so I'm not quite certain what's creating so many drops in connectivity. Multiple devices running at the same time (one wireless, one wired) MAY or MAY not lead to the connectivity issue. I haven't tested that hypothesis long enough for me to be sure. What could I try in order to troubleshoot my connectivity issues?

I am running Windows 10 (64-bit), but this problem also occurred on 8.1 and 7 (both 64-bit) with clean installations. I am also dual booting Ubuntu Studio 15.04, but more on that later.
When I boot my PC into 10, I have up to ten minutes before my PC either resets forcefully by itself, or freezes and never recovers. When I check the Minidump folder afterwards nothing is there.
I have replaced both my CPU (amd fx-6300) and PSU (corsair cx500m), and tested my RAM (with both sticks or just one), but none of that has fixed the problem.
My BIOS settings are at their defaults, no over/underclocking or over/undervolting at all.
The odd thing is, Ubuntu Studio runs fine with no crashes as far as I can see *EDIT: NOT THE CASE* , but if there was a software problem surely there would be a dump file?

My question is in regards to shared folders. I run a desktop and laptop connected by ethernet, through a router. Both machines run Windows 10 Pro. Both machines have static IP addresses setup in the router. I do not use a software firewall and both computers are allowed onto the network.
I share folders on both machines in order to run client software on the laptop which connects to the flight simulator on the desktop. All of the shared folders have full control setup for everyone in both security settings and the shared folders tab.
There are HomeGroups set up on both machines with the correct information.
The problem (finally you say) is that occasionally, one computer cannot open the shared folders on the other over the network. This doesn't happen all the time, nor is the solution consistent. Sometimes closing and reopening the network folder fixes it. Sometimes just waiting does it. Other times, I have to reboot the computer(s). This creates issues with my client software trying to connect to the desktop. The error is: 0x80070035 Windows cannot find.....(to paraphrase).
I should point out that the other machine shows up in the network folder. I just can't access it when this happens. This happens mainly on the laptop attempting to connect to the desktop, although once in awhile the desktop cannot find the laptop.
I have checked and rechecked settings, deleted and rebult the HomeGroup, ensured password protected sharing is off, network discovery is on; amongst other things. I read about changing the shared computer name to its IP address. I also read somewhere about changing a number of registry entries that would force a change in Windows network behaviour.

I successfully upgraded (well not without issues!) to Win10 Pro. I have been having issues where when I click on something the computer just goes into La La Land. Only way I can get out is to do a hard reset or hold down the power button for four seconds. I am not sure what error report to look at to see what is hanging up the system. Initially the machine did not like my old Logitech Trackman Mx trackball unit so I shut down the machine and unplugged it and plugged in a standard USB Microsoft mouse. The issue is still there but not quite as bad. Seems to be related to moving and clicking the mouse.

I use a wireless mouse and keyboard. Every now and then, often enough to be irritating, the keyboard fails to function: the mouse works properly. The keyboard problem persists for a few minutes, after which it works again. There is no discernable pattern to this problem.
The keyboard batteries are not responsible for the failure.
On the same desk is a cordless telephone.

After i upgraded to win10 i've encountered a problem i can't seem to figure out what is causing it. This happens on youtube in firefox, on twitch in opera and in vlc playing local files (all apps are latest version). But it's not a constant issue, it's intermittent. So it might happen every 10 min or so where something seems to hog all resources for a second.
What i've tried.
Completely uninstalled and reinstalled vlc.
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth
sfc /scannow
All completed successfully, but with no change.
