View 1 RepliesI am logged in as Admin. I have "Internet Shortcut" on the desktop. I also have "Details Pane" on. I try to change the description. But system asks for a permission form an local admin which also exists on the same machine?
View 9 RepliesOn my Win 10 Pro X 64 Laptop I go to Internet Options and would like to change the home page but the option to "use current" is grayed out. I use Firefox as my default browser and it opens the home page I want but in Edge I open the page I want to be the home page and the option to change it is grayed out. Everything I have tried this option is never available. So, How do I change this? Get the button to "use current" to be not grayed out?
View 2 RepliesSoon after downloading Windows 10, problems started emerging. Nothing happens when I click on the the icons for home, cortana, connecting to the internet, or power. It is impossible to establish an internet connection, the troubleshooter "couldn't identify the problem". The audio service is also malfunctioning.
I tried to run a recovery, but was unable to do so, as "The Volume Shadow Copy service used by System Restore is not working". I ran sfc/scannow several times, and the result is that it "found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them".
My laptop is indicating that it is connected to my home network and that it has internet access but when I go to the network center it says that it doesn't have any connections. Attaching an ethernet cable doesn't work (which was an earlier problem too) I already updated my drivers and ran the troubleshooter but it didn't work. I also restarted my router so I did most things I can. Side note: It happened really suddenly from one moment to the other...
View 1 RepliesIt's been a while since I have been on here since I haven't had many issues. But, I have ran into an issue with Internet Explorer 11. It won't let me change my home page to Bing and MSN. It says it's already set to Bing and MSN. But whenever I open IE 11, it pulls up my ISP's home page.
View 2 RepliesThis is an upgrade install of Win 10 Pro x64.
When I start the system and after the desktop appears for a few minutes, I get an indication from the lower right portion of the screen that my anti-virus is off and I need to tap to turn it on.
Is this the normal way Win 10 handles Internet Security programs? I'm using ESET Smart Security 9.
"Your internet security settings prevented one or more files from being opened".
First Disk Management doesn't work, now this?
My Windows 10 Experience is being top notch.
Been searching around and people say to reset IE, but Windows 10 doesn't have IE, I deleted some files from AppData like someone said to be able to reset Edge.
Same thing happens, I'm getting quite annoyed at this.
I can't use disk management as well:
How turn on? I click in view firewall option and click turn on kaspersky but it isn't work...
View 9 RepliesI just purchased a new laptop with Windows 10.
After installing Norton 360 antivirus, Firefox says "server not found" when I try to go to a web page.
Network trouble shooter says There are "missing network protocols and socket registry entries".
I reinstalled my network adapters and reset the winsock catalog and int ip sadly this did not work.
I contacted Norton tech support and they remotely installed the newest version that is supposed to be compatible with Win 10 however , about 5 min after hanging up the same problems are back.
When ever I turn on my pc it shows this home screen, and if I access desktop by searching it a folder opens which contain desktop icon and even by pressing windows logo button it doesn't change to desktop but remains at that home screen. I am using different thing by Tab+Alt buttons.
Also you can see the task bar it has a strange view that was never before and see the bottom right corner it is strange! also by clicking the extreme bottom right corner I didn't reach the desktop. (Not even by pressing Windows logo+D button).
I have Windows 10 Home 10240 build upgraded from Windows 8.1 Core. I have a inconvenient problem, if i create a new folder on the desktop. Right-Click -> New -> Folder, seems that explorer.exe crashes. Everything disappears desktop icon, taskbar. After 1 or 2 seconds everything comes back to normal and folder is created.
View 1 RepliesMy Dell XPS 8900 worked perfectly fine for several hours, but now won't let me connect to the Internet. Another computer in the same room gets online without a problem, using the *same* internet cable.
I also get error messages on the Dell when trying to use system restore, and when trying to reset the computer. (I thought if I just started over it might fix it.)
There is an icon on the screen lower right of a little monitor, with red X over it. When I click that it tells me "no connections are available." I've unplugged and replugged everything (modem, router, computer) and nothing has worked. I have Windows 10. Anything I should do?
There are some sites I visit frequently and I would like a desk top short cut for those sites.

View 1 RepliesI am having trouble with the modern apps and connectivity. It feels like half my computer will connect to the internet, and the other half won't. Desktop apps like Chrome, Steam, Outlook, iTunes etc. all connect to the internet fine, but any of the Windows apps like Xbox, Store and (most frustratingly) Settings will not connect.
In my network and sharing centre in the control panel it says 'You are not connected to any networks' - but in the system tray, and in the settings app it shows me as connected to my home wi-fi. I am on a desktop, and using a USB wireless adapter. I don't think the adapter is the problem as I have tried it on another desktop in our house on Windows 10 and it worked fine. Curiously also, when I click 'Adapter settings' in the control panel, it shows the wifi connection.
I've tried updating the drivers for the wireless adapter, both through the Windows update and adapter website but to no avail (and as I mentioned, it seems the adapter works fine elsewhere). I've updated manually to the latest Windows 10 Pro build, i've done a DNS flush, I've tried disabling firewalls and anti-virus, I've tried disabling startup apps, I've done a clean install of Windows 10 and still am unable to fix the issue.
But I'm currently browsing the internet and typing to you.
In fact - I can do virtually everything (League; Steam; Skype; etc) except use any OS feature that requires logging in -
e.g. Mail, User Accounts, Shop, etc. Then it says something along the lines of "Cannot use this service without an internet connection - please connect and try again." When I run Network Diagnostics as the prompt recommends - it says I am connected and cannot find a problem.
It doesn't always happen - but it seems to be determined on start-up. If I restart it now it might be working next launch - but 75% of the time it will encounter the same issue. It's been happening for months now but I've sort of gotten used to using my phone to check my emails - but I've now encountered an issue with one of my hard drives being unable to be searched (tried indexing, etc) and the only step I've found that I haven't tried says it could be a corrupted user account - but I cannot update my user account without "connecting to the internet". -_-
The system is up to date. No driver updates available.
Working on desktop Lenova computer. I was updating the computer drivers when one of the drivers froze, I click on cancel. I tried the internet and it stated No Internet Connection. I went into Device manager and did the unthinkable. I deleted everything inside the Network Adapters, including the words Network Adapters. In other words, no Network Adapters are showing in Device Manager.
First, I would like to know how can I replace the words Network Adapters in the Device Manager menu, and download the two adapters that were there in the beginning. Lastly, how to get back the Internet to work again.
I am on Win 10 and can only access the internet with Firefox. When I try to connect with Edge I get the error message "Hmmm, we can't reach this page" and if I try through Internet Explorer I get "This page can’t be displayed". Chrome seems to work along with Firefox, but both will freeze quite often.
View 1 RepliesI have a gaming pc. Core i7. Gigabyte Sniper 5 motherboard with wireless lan, ethernet and intel ethernet. So 2 lan ports and a wireless connection. My network and internet is working on my mac iPad and phone. But for some reason on my pc it is showing that the connection has internet access but no apps will work. Skype, steam, origin, i.e, chrome. I have tried everything. I can use a personal hotspot via bluetooth with my phone to the pc as it has bluetooth as well and then the internet works with no problem. I am guessing it is a hardware issue ? I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software but it is not working.
View 1 RepliesI was wondering if i can connect to my home network from anywhere. More specifically my place of education as i need it for work,Is it possible to connect to my Home Hub?
View 1 RepliesI successfully upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10 last week. For the 1st time since the upgrade, I tried emptying my recycle bin. However, it *appears* to fail, in that the dialog box that pops up shows "Discovered 0 items (0 bytes)" indefinitely. More details shows the useless "Time remaining: Calculating" message, and nothing useful. The dialog box has been doing this for 2 hours; nothing has changed. It's neither discovered anything nor progressed. I am able to cancel the dialog box, but when I retry, it goes back to "discovering 0 bytes".
I'm on a pretty powerful Dell Inspiron 15R, 16GB RAM, Intel i7 CPU, 1 TB HDD, that's now running Windows 10 Home, 64-bit.
