View 3 RepliesWhen I create a shortcut to file in Program Files, the target path for that shortcut will be to Program Files (x86), even though the start in path will be correct. Furthermore, even though the target path is incorrect and no icon is displayed for the shortcut, the shortcut still works.Shortcuts to items placed in the Program Files folder by an installer do not have this problem. It is only for files that are manually placed in the Programs Files folder by me the user, i.e. copy and pasted there.
View 3 RepliesI'm recently upgraded form windows 7 to windows 10. I'm facing the annoying issue that windows explorer steals the application focus after it finishes copying files and comes to front. Any option to disable this behavior?
View 1 RepliesI just updated my win7 to win10, despite several negligible issues, so far I'm rather content about it. I browsed several options, lurked around settings, internet, friends- no straight forward method found. So, how to set the touchpad back, to behave as it used to in win7? My laptop does not have touchscreen, therefore i have no need to use this built-in 'feature', which is no good for me at all.
View 5 RepliesI clicked on the "View download progress" button and I get the message; "Something went wrong. Please try again later".
I should note that I got an error message earlier when upgrading that said I was getting the "update error 0x80080008". I eventually fixed that using a .bat file I learned from another site but now I'm getting this new error.
[URL] .... I originally installed windows on 1440p resolution. I then upgraded that monitor to a 4k monitor and the notifications/tray menus for some programs seem to still open as if its a 1440p monitor. I have two side monitors that are 1440p and the notifications load properly on those but its very annoying that they load in the middle of my screen on my 4k monitor. I really don't want to reinstall windows or multiple programs.
View 3 RepliesI was running Win 7 before the upgrade and I had the window focus setting to follow my mouse. In other words, I just needed to place my mouse in a window for it to be focused... no clicking necessary. There was a small delay in the focus and this worked well for me. I find in 10, however, that the delay is gone so as I move my mouse around the screen, windows popup very quickly. The easiest solution for me is to just turn off the feature. But I can't seem to find where to do that. In 7, this was done via Ease of Access menu but that option is not there in 10 nor is it in the mouse options and I don't see a Windows Settings option/menu anywhere. The only way I can manage my windows right now is to minimise everything other than the window I'm working in... this is a bit inconvenient.
View 3 RepliesI hate the windows key. How can I remap it to run a program instead? I want it to run a "show desktop" shortcut I got.
View 1 RepliesI'm having some problems after my Windows upgrade from 7 to 10...
Basically, I'm working on a multiple monitor system. When I move my mouse around the screen, windows changes the focus from the window that I'm working in (a spreadsheet for example), and starts entering data in any window i mouse-over.
I found a partial solution in the following thread.....but this only disables the window popping-up (the focus still changes).

in windows 7 and 8 I could place a shortcut on my desktop to either closedown or restart my PC which I found on the Windows 8 site. will this still work on windows 10?
View 3 RepliesIs it a way to restore the opened windows like they were before via a shortcut after windows restart?
View 9 RepliesI am plagued by software running in the background such as backup that pops up a window over what I am working on. If I am busy typing and fail to notice my typing is wasted! It is extremely irritating. It isn't a particular Win 10 issue I suppose but that is what I am using.
Is there a Windows setting I can configure or is this purely in the hands of the rogue software?

View 3 RepliesFor instance: Edge downloads a program which has a setup dialog. On hitting run, the setup dialog appears on the taskbar, but Edge remains in front. Once you bring the setup screen is in focus, you don't realise that it will not respond because, again, behind Edge, another dialog has opened saying "another instance of setup is already running".
This behavior seems to happen with other error messages, and property sheets etc. which ought to be brought to front, but open in the background.
what is the resolution to it?
I created shortcuts for my most used Windows 10 apps/tiles to my desktop, but some of the shortcuts have blank icons. I re-copied some and they stuck, but a few others are still blank after several retries. i.e. Scan and Store are blank but Calendar, Calculator, Photos, Weather and Alarms have the correct icons.
View 1 RepliesI had shortcut icons on the windows classic desktop in windows 10 and now they have disappeared and I cant get them to come back.
View 2 RepliesWhy don't the tiles in windows 10 have individual colors? Everything looks so unfinished when all the tiles are the same color...
View 1 RepliesIs there a way to change the calendar colors in the app? It seems to have made my default calendar show up as blue. On the website it's pink, so that didn't work for me. I see where I can change to bright or light colors, but not where to change the color completely.
View 3 RepliesI was checking out various themes. Most had quite hideous colors, and mainly dark ones. I wanted a neutral theme, but for fun I chose a purple and pink theme first. Well, everything is purple and pink, including web pages. The forum's pages are purple and pink. All of the games I play are purple and pink. Distinguishing game characters and such is nearly impossible. Nothing I do stops the theme from coloring the web pages. And the colors are always dark and overwhelming. No matter what theme I choose, the web pages are not the correct color. I am sick of color. I want a cream and brown theme, and only on my PC, not on anything on the internet.
View 3 RepliesThe Win 10 background colors are very limited, I want a dark blue background. Is there a way to change that?
View 3 RepliesPhoto editing program. My criteria is a relatively easy to use program to add text, change colors or to make banners and posters for our club. Not interested in fancy makeovers. PSP and their help desk and manual is not that easy to use, and Gimp (have not used it much) seems like it would be too complex for my needs. Leaning towards Photoshop Elements because an acquaintance uses the full Photoshop (am told PS and the more limited PE use the same functions for what they can do) and may give me a few tips now and then. A friend also uses Elements. Some reviews recommended Lightroom over Elements.
View 1 RepliesI'm a photographer and work mostly with black and white images. I took the jump from win7 to win10 today and in setting my wallpaper as "centered" (not fill or stretch etc) I am faced with not being able to choose an appropriate background color to go "behind" the wallpaper.
How can I get a simple black or white background color to go behind / around my wallpaper image. There are plenty reds, purples, greens and blues, but precious few neutrals.
I want to be able to select background color by RGB code or a 24-bit palette.
Several programs I use have dark backgrounds with dark colored text, such as black background with dark blue text, someone told me there's a way to change text colors in the programs through windows 10 settings, is that correct? if so how ?
View 6 RepliesI recently installed Ubuntu onto my computer. After installing it, when my laptop goes to sleep (using Windows 10), it never really wakes up. All it does is flicker different colors. For now, I've worked around it by setting "close lid" to simply do nothing and the power button is set to hibernate; I just removed the option of sleeping.
View 1 RepliesIn Windows 8.1, the word "color" appeared below the high contrast themes. By clicking on it, I could change the colors of a variety of items on the screen. My Windows 10 does not show the color option. Is this a characteristic of Windows 10, or is something not working in my version? How can I fix it?
