View 5 RepliesI have attempted to download windows 10 around 4/5 times, the download completes and states that my computer needs to restart upon which it claims it is configuring the windows 10 upgrade. I would assume from this point it would restart into the windows 10 configuration however each time I have tried it it restarts back into windows 8 as if nothing had happened.
My laptop then opens up windows update and says I am able to download windows 10. This is really frustrating as I can't even seem to get into the windows 10 setup.
As you can see I am attempting to download again but there is no trace at all of it attempting to install windows other than this failed update that you can see here.
I am using an HP Pavillion 15-n268a laptop.
I have been trying to update for a long time now. But the final upgrade wit keeps on saying : There's a problem please try again later. I have windows 7 (it's compatible to upgrade) and it's not a pirated version.
View 1 RepliesWhen I downloaded Windows 8 Pro a few years ago my PC only had 1GB of RAM, so it installed the 32 Bit version. I have since added another GB of RAM. When Windows 10 is released, will I be able to download and install the 64 Bit version, or am I stuck with the 32 Bit version on this PC?

View 1 RepliesI've been holding out on upgrading to Windows 10 for a while now but I think I'll finally make the upgrade from Windows 7. This isn;t the first time I've upgraded/reinstalled Windows on my computer so I still have a windows.old folder from last time.
Will upgrading make two windows.old folders or replace the old one with a new one? And will that one have another windows.old folder inside of it? Should I just throw my windows.old file onto my external hdd and then do the upgrade?
I have a pre-built laptop with official W7 on it. The HD had a failure last year and since I was too busy to take care of it I gave it to a friend who just cloned it. Result, now Windows is not recognized as legit and no system feature works (including system restore, the search function, Windows updates). I still used it without problems but now I built one for myself and I'm giving the laptop to my father, and thought the best way to clean all that mess was to use the free Windows 10 upgrade to format everything and do a clean install with that.
Is there any way I can "trick" my system in thinking it's legit again so that I can get the free Windows 10 upgrade?
I have done the update once, waited around 2/3 hours. i then reset my PC. i then did the update again, waited at least 5 hours. still stuck at 32% if there is a fix for this, i will do anything. i have a brother who did this update. My laptop is a pavilion 15 8gb ram radeon hd 7600g win 8.1
View 1 RepliesI've successfully updated to Windows 10 on my two Surfaces, but there is some kind of issue on my desktop PC. The upgrade process from Windows 8 fails at about 71% total (Installing features and drivers at 91%), and the error I get is:
C1900101-40017 Windows Update ran into a problem.
When I click on "Get help with this error" I'm directed to a page with some general troubleshooting with Windows Update. I've run Windows update repair tool and it fixed some issues, but the installation failed again.
I have now tried freeing up more disk space which I admit was a bit tight and I'm preparing to run the update again. Still, I'd prefer if there was a more detailed error message or a log file where I could see what exactly went wrong, but there are no indications where I might find one (either in the error message, the troubleshooter, or Google). As it is, I'm shooting blind here and this will now be my fifth upgrade attempt.
He has just upgraded his windows 7 home premium to windows 10 by using the dvd iso that he downloaded all went well.
Now his question is when the pc starts up and the welcome screen comes up he has chosen a picture but underneath the circular picture it still says welcome to Windows 7,He thinks that should be Windows ten or something else not Windows 7.
I had Windows 7 installed on one HDD and XP installed on secondary HDD. When I initially installed W7, it set up a boot screen which enabled me to access and run XP. After I upgraded to W10 and I try to start XP by booting from the secondary HDD, it pops up with the W7 boot select screen and, when I select to run "Earlier version of Windows", it goes to a black screen with no HDD activity.
Before you ask why I still have XP, I run a number of programs for design and game modding which are NOT compatible with later versions of Windows, even when using the so-called compatibility modes.
Is there any way I can eliminate the residual W7 boot select screen?

View 2 RepliesI currently have Windows 10, which I received as a free upgrade when I had Windows 8 several months ago. Now, I have to wipe my hard drive, so I'll obviously be reinstalling Windows 8 once I have done so. Will it again give me the option to upgrade to Windows 10, or will I be forced to stick with the dreaded Windows 8?
View 1 RepliesI want to upgrade to Windows 10 to see how it works but... I also want to keep my Windows 7 in case anything goes wrong. So, how can I dual boot Win 10 with Win 7? It can be done when upgrading or I must download an .ISO file and burn it on a DVD? And I will also need some instructions about dual booting. By the way, I already backed up my files on my external hard disk if anything goes wrong.
