I'm planning to go from windows 8 to windows 10 after getting my first build, and I'm curious if I need to update my drivers before getting windows 10 or not. I know you put in the OS disc before any driver discs that came with your hardware so I don't know if I can just do a clean install of windows 10 and then get my drivers or not.

I've been facing a collection of annoying problems with my Windows 8.1, specifically setting saving problem, for example can't save settings like default app, folder and icon size, i didn't update to Win10 yet because i am working on very important projects.
My question is, do you think this kind of problems will be fixed after updating to Win10 by keeping all my files, programs, etc... ?Or should i do a clean installation of Win10 so my computer will be "system-new".
Will windows 10 update provide a product key for clean install? If so how/where?
If not when performing a clean install, will skipping the product key prompt, then activating once desktop appears automatically activate and inject a product key?Lastly rather than extract the esd file, where to get a genuine Microsoft iso's on release date?
I did a clean install on my PC with Windows 10 and now am going to download drivers from my mobo site. It is an asus maximus vi hero and there are only a couple of drivers on the site for windows 10. what should I do about all the other missing drivers?
View 1 Repliesown a sony vaio laptop and recently did a clean install of windows 10 on it, however I noticed that the volume was significantly lower than windows 8.1. My computer uses Realtek HD Audio.I tried installing drivers from Sony's as well as Realtek's website, however there is still no change.
View 8 RepliesDone the upgrade, then straight away done the clean install...very impressed...so far, everything working a treat, but alas not a sound from my speakers, device manager shows my budget Asus Xonar DGX sound card is working properly, my light on speakers lights up...but nothing, I've had speakers since windows 95, really miss them now, especially after a super clean install. I know the speakers might be at fault, but how can I check them?, I haven't got another computer, tried them with my Toshiba satellite Equuim but the sound come through their built in system.
View 6 RepliesI'm a student and my university has a subscription to Dreamspark, so I got a Win10 key, along with an ISO-file from there. I'm using a Lenovo G700 and trying to perform a clean install from a bootable USB-stick.
I have tried creating this USB-stick with the "Win7 USB DVD Download Tool", using different guides from the internet with NTFS and Fat32 filesystem, launching the setup normally and through UEFI, using the "Media Creation Tool" ([URL]) to create the USB-stick directly and downloading the ISO file first and creating a bootable USB-stick from that with all the methods above, but no matter which of these methods I use, I get the following error during installation:
"A media driver your computer needs is missing." (URL)
Unfortunatley, I am currently running Win7 Pro x64 on my laptop and the following page says, that the upgrade to Win10 only works from Win8.1, not Win7: [URL]
When I try to use the "Media Creation Tool" to instantly perform an upgrade, I get the following error:
"Something happened... 0x80070422 - 0x90016"
What drivers could the installation possibly be missing? I don't have any external devices plugged in, except for the bootable USB-stick, of course. I tried downloading all drivers for Win7 x64 and Win10 x64 from the Lenovo page ([URL])
I re-installed win10 on my ASUS Q302LA laptop after completely wiping the c: drive using Ubuntu. I installed Ubuntu in order to delete the "Old windows" folder, which apparently can only be done from windows if you have god or "trusted user" status, whatever the hell that is. After installing over Ubuntu using win10 from an iso optical disk, the usb ports and device manager no longer register my seagate external hdd. Now this is scary because the seagate is a "backup" drive and now it's useless. It's still good and works fine with my hp elite so nothing's lost, but the idea that were I not to have a second computer my data would be unaccessible by the very products supposedly designed to keep it safe. The touchscreen feature is also non-functional. I'm not sure whether this is a win10 problem or an ASUS driver problem specific to this computer.
View 1 RepliesLast time my wifi didnt work and eventually nothing, but I managed to do a clean install. Thereafter, with ASUSUTeK, I downloaded some drivers to bring back my internet.
So now I have internet and a fresh clean install, but my touchscreen(and sound too, but I want to focus on touchscreen first) wont work anymore at all. Also, the buttons like f5/f6 dont work anymore either
Things I already tried:
- Calibrating
- Looking in the Device Manager to update drivers.
The problem is, most websites say that I have to turn the ''HID compliant screen'' on and off, but I dont have that driver/thing at all in my device manager. I also cant find a download link on ASUS' drivers website to fix this.
After I upgraded from Win 8.1,
1. Ashampoo programs would not find my (Conexant SmartAudio 221) sound card - Ashampoo looking into this promising a fix after diagnostics - but for weeks now.
2. Audacity would not run beyond v 2.03 (which is reported by others on their forum).
That was 32 bits.
I tried a clean install, 64 bits, and to my surprise, no problem with Ashampoo progs or Audacity 2.1.1.
I'll be using my 32 bit installation whilst I slowly configure the 64 bit version for quite a while.
Other than clean booting, and trying to identify possible conflicts, is there any more specific area I could look at? I have quite a lot of multimedia programs installed.
How Can i Resolve It?? Bluetooth Constantly gives error 43 after Win10 upgrade & Clean Install....

View 3 RepliesAs I encounter problems with my Lan driver Realtek and Windows 10 Pro 64, somone on the forum said me to download the last version from Microsoft update catalog which seems the good one.
So I downloaded the driver but it is a .cab file. When I unpacked the files I obtain four files : a .cat file, a .inf file, a .sys file and a .DLL file. There is no setup.exe file....
I tried to install the driver using the command "HDWWIZ". It sees the .inf file but noting installs..
Recently I was notified that a driver installation failed. I went and checked it out, and it was a driver for HD 4600 graphics. My old system ran an i7-4790K, and when I upgraded to X99 I did not reimage my SSD.
Is there a way I can remove an update from Windows Update? The CPU I have has no iGPU, let alone HD 4600.
My motherboard manufacturer only has a file for the Windows 10 chipset driver but I remember in the past I was supposed to download the chipset software installation utility first if it was the first time doing a chipset driver on a new comp.

View 1 RepliesMy computer is trying to install Update to Windows 10 Home, version 1511, 10586, but can't. It claims there is no system reserved partition, but there is. This computer was upgraded from Windows 7 to 10, and immediately after doing that I installed a Samsung SSD and migrated the system to it using the software that came with the SSD. The migration went well and I've been using Windows 10 for months.
All of a sudden, when trying to do some updates it claims it cannot update the system reserved partition. The partition is there, it's 100MB in size. So I tried booting from the install CD, which I burned to do the upgrade (so I know it's a good disc). My computer recognizes there's a disc in the DVD drive, but no matter how I set the bios boot order it will not boot from the DVD, so I can't do a repair on the SSD.
Mine was with Win 7. This was done few years back throughWin7 upgrade disk. I have this Win 7 upgrade disk and COA for it. (Bought from Amazon).... Can I revert back to Win 7.....

I originally did an upgrade from Win7 Pro to Win10 pro and then a clean install from there back when Win10 pro first became available. I read that I can use the Windows Key on the back of my laptop but I'm not sure that will work because it's a whole new SSD.

View 6 RepliesMy PC was running 8.1 French version converted to English version (Reseller screwed up).In practice a lot of the stuff was displayed sometimes in Eng sometimes in French. I have the 8.1 French CD.So instead of doing the upgrade which I thought would result in another mishmash of languages, I did a clean install of 10 Home Eng via USB key downloaded install media.Apart from a few video probs (BSOD) blinking cursor, all went well.I cannot use 8.1 product key to activate. Looks like I may have to buy new product key for W10.
View 19 RepliesI had a licensed windows 7 PC and did the in-place upgrade to windows 10. However my main hard drive (an SSD) is too small and I want to upgrade it. I understand that if I do a clean install (from an ISO/USB) then windows 10 should still recognise my PC as it was activated.
However, if I change the hard drive (or add memory, add a graphics card etc) does windows still recognise my PC or do I have to go through the stupidty of installing windows 7, installing the service pack, waiting for the inplace upgrade to windows 10, activating, and then wiping everything in order to do a clean install!?!?!
I was wondering if I do a clean install when I get the free upgrade from windows 8.1 to windows 10 if my device drivers (for my cpu, usb ports, wifi, etc) will stay.
View 1 RepliesI have been an Insider since the very first Insider build was released. I had installed each and every build first being on the Slow ring and the on the Fast. I had upgraded from a genuine Windows 8.1 Pro.
When the final RTM build TH1 Professional 10240 was released to Insiders ahead of schedule, I readily installed it and my machine was permanently activated at that time. The product key used was a generic one ending in 3V66T. Many of you may be knowing this.
Today, in fact just now, I formatted my system partition and installed a clean copy of Windows 10 Pro from USB which I had created using the Microsoft Creation Tool. When the setup asked me for a product key, I entered the same generic key as stated above. But now when I go to the Settings, it says the key doesn't work and hence, my machine cannot be activated. I signed-in using my Microsoft account before using the PC.
What the heck! I am an Insider. And didn't expect this to happen. What should I do next? Would the machine get activated itself after some time?
