App Scaling - Can't Be Accessed Or Even Scrolled

Apr 2, 2015

I'm having a bit of trouble with modern apps in the latest preview. There seems to be an issue with the scaling on them so that the border of the app is always a little too small to fit the content, regardless of how I resize the window.

So items on the far right of bottom of a window (including app commands) can't be accessed or even scrolled to.

Internet Picking And Choosing Which Pages Can Be Accessed?

Sep 6, 2015

I can't get my internet to work properly, on any browser. Most websites will come up with either "408 Request Time-Out", or "ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE", "ERR_CONNECTION_RESET", with the request time-out one being the least frequent. But for some reason this does not affect every website. I can still get to youtube and google just fine, and Tumblr too, until just a few minutes ago, and now I can't reach that either. I've already tried clearing my cookies and cashe, reulting in no discernible difference. I don't know what to do.

Screen Flickering After Upgrade - Start Menu Cannot Be Accessed

Aug 25, 2015

I have been struggling for several days with screen flickering in Windows 10 2 days after I upgraded. I immediately tried to return to a previous restore point which made no difference. I then tried to use the safe mode to try to figure out if some software was causing the problem. In doing so, I uninstalled several programs to no avail. Consideration was also given to the display card.

Looking back, I now know that the only software that was installed was AVG anti-virus. I spent most of last night trying to remove all traces of it, even as far as cleaning out the Registry, but the problem still persists. The PC is completely useless as the start menu cannot be accessed.

Networking :: Linux SMB Not Showing Up In File Explorer (but Can Be Accessed Direct)

Jan 17, 2016

I'm on a Windows 10 Pro PC accessing a linux server with samba etc installed and working well (visible via Homegroup to both Android and Windows 7 pro). From the Win 10 box, if I type the name of the server in Windows File Explorer, then the shares from the server show up without issue. However, if I go into the Network folder, it does not see the linux servers - even though they are correctly configured for the correct homegroup. My windows 7 machines can see the servers in "network" as can my android devices.

Here's a screenshot. Note, the red arrows show what displays in Network folder (red arrows). If I click on the Server Name (HunterNAS in this case), the server shares are displayed and it shows up in the Network folder (blue arrows). Even after making the successful connection, display of another file explorer window > Network folder displays no linux server shares...

BSOD :: Page Fault In Nonpaged Area When Shared Folder Is Accessed

Feb 23, 2016

I have just done a fresh install of Win 10 on two computers and everything, including the internet, is working perfectly. However when I use File Explorer on computer B to look at a shared folder on Computer A, Computer A crashes with a Page Fault In Nonpaged Area. This happens instantly and consistently. I checked the Device manager and there are no exclamation marks. I also reinstalled the network drivers on both PCs but the problem persists.

I tried using the following command on Computer B:

Robocopy "D:Documents" "JOHNBackupDocuments" /MIR /XA:SH /XJD /R:2 /W:2

This seemed to work however when I checked the Backup folder using Computer A the computer crashed with the same error.

Customization :: How To Uninstall A Theme

Feb 23, 2016

I know how to uninstall programs and such, however, I have a theme that is called AlienwareRed, and I can't find where the uninstall is for it. This theme changed all the icons etc.

I've changed the theme to a different one, but the icons are still the ones from AlienwareRed, so I'd like to uninstall it.

I can't find it in Uninstall Programs.

Customization :: Theme Colors Have Taken Over Everything And Cannot Reset

Jan 21, 2016

I was checking out various themes. Most had quite hideous colors, and mainly dark ones. I wanted a neutral theme, but for fun I chose a purple and pink theme first. Well, everything is purple and pink, including web pages. The forum's pages are purple and pink. All of the games I play are purple and pink. Distinguishing game characters and such is nearly impossible. Nothing I do stops the theme from coloring the web pages. And the colors are always dark and overwhelming. No matter what theme I choose, the web pages are not the correct color. I am sick of color. I want a cream and brown theme, and only on my PC, not on anything on the internet.

Customization :: Theme Color Not Changing?

Jan 10, 2016

I am unable to change the theme color from an icky blue. I can change the desktop, I can enable and disable the color on the Start, taskbar, etc., I can make them transparent. I cannot change the color. If I attempt to click a different accent color, nothing happens. No color change on the preview. No color change anywhere. Just icky blue.

I've made sure that the Theme service is running and I've tried installing themes online. Nothing I'm doing is getting this color to change and it's really buggin' me out.

It could have to do with this being an Origin laptop. It was originally Windows 8 when I got it wherein, as an Origin PC, it had a default-installed Origin theme where the accent colors were red and black. I was able to change the desktop background while it was in '8, but I was unable to ever change the accent from red.

Now that I have Windows 10, I am not using the Origin-installed theme and my accent is not locked in red but is instead locked in blue..

I've not yet attempted a hard refresh of Windows 10, especially seeing as the refresh USB will simply install Win8 again with the Origin-brand-lock, so upgrading to '10 would only be extra time and stress for an issue that is going to happen in '8 and be brought forward again.

Is there a way to force the color scheme to change?

I am running Windows 10 Home on an Origin PC. 16GB RAM; CPU i7 @ 2.8Ghz; I am indeed the administrator.

Magnifier Gives A Dark Theme Conversion

Oct 18, 2015

The Windows 10 Magnifier can give you a “dark” theme by converting light themes. The Windows 10 Magnifier has a color inversion mode that converts blinding white windows with black text into relaxing black windows with white text. It’s easy to set up, doesn’t require any downloads, and doesn’t require any risky Registry editing that might get overwritten by the next Windows 10 upgrade. Once you set it up, the Magnifier keyboard shortcuts will turn it on and off.

To set it up, go to ‘Start’ and open ‘Settings’, then select ‘Ease of Access’. Select ‘Magnifier’, and set the ‘Magnifier’, ‘Invert Colors’, and both tracking switches to ON. Set the ‘Start Magnifier Automatically’ switch to OFF. Then start the Magnifier, and set it to 100% & full-screen view. This gives you a color-inverted view, and, since most applications provide a white work area and black text, you’ll get a black work area with white text. Of course, wallpaper, JPEGs, and other colored objects will look a little strange, but you’ll get used to that in a hurry if you’re writing documents, using spreadsheets, or dealing with websites that are predominantly black text on white background. If the color inversion is getting in the way because you’re dealing with graphics, just turn it off by using a Magnifier shortcut (<Windows key> + <ESC>).

Customization :: Setting Desktop With One Image From Theme?

Jan 28, 2016

With Windows 7 I had the ability to go into the Personalization settings and uncheck all of the images within a Microsoft Theme (such as "Waterfalls" or "Beaches") that I did not want to see. This gave me the ability to choose just one image from a theme to set as a permanent desktop background.

This menu was found by right-clicking on the particular theme I had chosen. In Windows 10 that menu is gone....

Therefore the themes just continue going from one image to the next and I have no control over which images I want, setting a timeframe for them to change (Used to have options such as 1 hour, 6 hours, 24 hours etc...), or the ability to customize the desktop background in the way I want.

Is this a Windows 10 design flaw or am I missing something? Why am I no longer able to customize a desktop background theme and choose 1 image anymore?

Changing Personalization / Background / Theme Settings

Aug 8, 2015

So yesterday I installed 10 on the laptop. It appears to work very well, even though it seems, and is, intrusive (privacy concerns) and for me a long learning curve to figure out how all the new 'apps' (old redesigned programs and UI) work.

Here's the problem:

I have read through this tutorial (plus many other posts and articles): [URL]

I want/need to change the timing of the background pictures/theme and the colors of the window from the stock (forced upon me) settings, but the display does NOT show the controls in the bottom of the personalization area as they are shown in that tutorial (They were there in W7 and Vista, and in the tutorial above made in March).

I have tried different resolutions (none smaller available, currently at 1366x768, native), and only two font/display/text sizes I could find of 100% and 125%: The needed controls still don't show up.

The laptop is an ASUS G50VT - 5. Stock except for a 500GB Hybrid drive.

Customization :: How Can Choose The Theme Pictures For Desktop Background

Mar 5, 2016

In W-7, I could go to the "Change the visuals and sounds on your computer" and click the "Desktop Background" Slide Show. once there, I could check or uncheck the pictures I wanted.

In W-10, when I click "Desktop Background", I get the "Background" "Preview" window. There's no handy access to the pictures in the selected screen.

The "Chose albums.....", DesktopBackground", Browse would probably get me to where the actual pictures are if I knew where they are.
It use to be very simple.

Customization :: Default Lock Screen Theme Does Not Show 24 Hour Time

Jan 5, 2016

I regularly use the 24 hour time format for all of my systems. Its not a major issue I have now with Win10, but its annoying a bit.

Before I logon to Windows 10, the default lock screen theme has the time in 12 hour format instead of the 24 hour format.

In Windows, I set everything in 24 hour time. Period. I just don't like 12 hour time.

However, when I sign out or just by locking my screen, it does show the time in 24 hour format.

But when I reboot my system it shows the time in 12 hour format.

Customization :: Can't Change Theme Settings For Desktop Background / Color And Sound

Aug 1, 2015

Navigating to Settings > Personalization > Themes > Theme Settings, we get to the Personalization window for Themes same as on Win 7. In the window it states "Click a theme to change the desktop background, color, and sounds all at once."

However, the icons normally at the bottom of the window to change those settings are missing. All I can do is save the theme (right click).

(window capture missing icons)

(these are the icons I'd expect to see)
