Laptop Screen Turns Off Then Back On After Login Screen
Jan 5, 2016
I reinstalled windows the day before yesterday and since then every time I turn my laptop on after entering my password the screen turns off for like 2 seconds then turns back on. This have never happened to me before. I tried putting my old windows back via Macrium Reflect and I even tried reinstalling it again but neither of those things worked. I have an Acer Aspire V3-572g laptop.
I've had an issue with my laptop : it randomly turns off when I play some games without even a blue screen or a crash of any sort. It only happens with some specific games and happened a few times on each, something like once every several hours.
The games I've had these problems with are World of Warcraft, Call of Duty 2 and Civilisation 5. At first I thought this could be caused by some sort of exception unhandled by my processor, but it would give me blue screens, not just my computer turning off.
I've read online that it could be caused to overheating but WoW worked just fine when I was using it on the same laptop with windows 8.1, and amongst all the other games I play on this pc, WoW, CoD 2 and Civ 5 are really not the ones that use the most resources.
Note that it doesn't turn off like it would by just shutting windows down, there's no windows 10 shut down screen or anything at all and the programs running don't close before. It just goes black instantly.
I have a gaming laptop. Recently after updating to w10 november update, i have noticed that my laptop sometimes turns itself on after a complete shutdown. It usually occurs 2 seconds after complete shutdown. Ive checked if maybe it was a battery issue but nothing is leaking. I have not opened my laptop yet but this is the only problem i have. Is there any software to check what could possible cause this. Also my laptop never boots itself up while in sleep either connected to charger or off charger so its safe to say it only occurs when i just fininshed using my laptop.
I did a clean install on the Nvidia Drivers (Optimus Technology is On) and restarted the Laptop, Then I installed the drivers and restarted again. After the second restart, the Laptop stopped getting to the login screen, it just keeps showing the loading circle from the mouse. And after lots of time it will stop spinning the circle and will just have the mouse cursor on screen. It stays like that forever.
I got a Asus ux501vw laptop a couple of months ago and have been having an issue with the screen not be able to turn back on after it turns off.
I'm running Windows 10 x64. The issues happens in any resolution (it's a 4k screen but usually I run 1080p for better software compatability).
This happens when it goes into power saving mode or I use fn7. I can't get the screen back on unless I close the laptop lid and sign back in again. When it happens I can sometimes change the brightness and I can hear notification noises which suggest the laptop is running fine without the screen being on.
Steps I have tried with no result: - rolling back gpu driver to version thathat came with laptop - updating bios and chipset (recommended by asus) - resetting the power management settings
Some weird findings: - in safety mode there is no issue (though when the screen shuts off I can see the backlight is on full which is different to normal boot) - If there is a second monitor plugged in the issue goes away (in either extend or duplicate) - if there is no second monitor plugged in and I hit f7 the screen won't turn back on. As soon as I plug in the second monitor the screen comes back on.
What could be causing this? Is there some monitoring program I should use to find out what is happening when the screen is supposed to be back on but it's not?
I did a bit of research and this seems to have been an issue for a while, or has been in the past. Was upgrading to windows 10, I first had to restart my pc cause it was initially stuck on that preparing to install problem with the green bar being stuck around 25%.
It then got through that and began the installation process with the big circle and rebooting process. However around 91% when I last looked at it it was just black screen, this stayed this way for about 3-4 hours. I then decided to reboot the pc and it has now booted to the login screen. Is this a known bug or could there be a possible issue?
The problem seems a bit different as some people I saw have had to fall back on PC restore points etc. So not sure if it installed or what could be the problem.
Also side note, I upgraded my pc when windows 10 first publically released, but rolled back because I had about 5min shutdown times.
I upgraded from Windows 8 to 10 without a hitch an hour ago and kept all of my personal files and apps. I set up my start menu and everything was working fine, but I wanted to change the image on the logon screen (or whatever you call the screen in between the lock screen and the screen where you enter your PIN/info). So I took a risk and downloaded the 3rd party app here:
[URL] and uploaded an image and hit apply. Of course right after doing that I went to lock my PC to see if it worked, and as you can tell... it didn't.
I've tried rebooting and it hasn't worked. It's just very rapidly flashing between a blue screen w/ a loading circle and my lock screen image.
I've just upgraded my win 7 installation to win 10. The power and sleep setting was carried over, turn off screen after 5 minutes, but the monitors stay on forever. I checked the network adapters in the device manager (BT personal area network, BT RFCOMM, Realtek PCIe GBE family controller) but none of them had power options or anything related to waking up the computer.
I'm using a Packard Bell Easy Note TE Laptop (forgot the actual model number), upgraded from window 7 to Win10. After 30 minutes from logging in, the screen turns off regardless of whether I'm using it or not and brings me to the log in screen, just as if I put it to sleep or something.. It doesn't seem to matter if it's plugged in or not and it doesn't matter what I do in the power settings.
I'm running Windows 10 64-bit and whenever i right click on desktop the screen turns black. Check out video for more details(The video is in windows 8.1 but the problem is the same and still persists).
I have freshly formatted my computer, installed all the updates and drivers, I have also RMA'd my video card (which i thoroughly tested and found it works fine on other computers.) but I cant figure out why my screen goes black but the computer keeps running. I can hear my music still playing and I run a dual monitor setup but when my screen goes black both monitors keep bouncing around the "Analog / Digital" box and thats all i can see, i have tested the monitors on other computers and they work fine as well.
saw other post about Crashing without BSOD, and i followede some of the steps other people had to no luck. screen turns black, says no signal(one says no VGA and other say no HDMI), sounds cuts off, PC is still on, Lights in mouse and keyboard have to shut down the pc manual no BSOD.
ad the problem for some time now. first time i got them was in the Starcraft 2 legacy of the void, in some of the cutscenes, but only in the cutscenes, and now i have it again in blade and soul. sometimes at the login and sometimes when i enter the game(Cutscene). URL....starcraft was random times some cutscens were ok, some not, What i did was instant esc and watchede the cutscene online if it crashede) every other game i played/tryed i never crashede like this. WoW fallout 4 so on.

This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem. The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module. Your system configuration may be incorrect. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver on your system that cannot be identified at this time. URL...
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge with an Intel I5 processor, 64 bit with no hardware upgrades (stock). I had accidentally stepped on the screen (fell off my lap and then crunch) which was mangled beyond repair, so I have been using it similar to a tower, with a VGA and/or HDMI connected monitor (my HDMI cable went bad, I picked up a new cable but hadn't hooked it up to the second monitor. I started my free upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to 10 last night. I woke up to the black screen/mouse pointer issue which is what brought me to this thread. I tried the recommended fix:
1. Hit ctrl, type in password and enter 2. Win Key + P + Down Arrow. (Win Key + P only seems to do the same thing)
This brought up options to
1. Disconnect projector (Tried this and lost connection to the VGA even after reboot) 2. Duplicate (Screen is still black with mouse cursor, but I saw a little bit of red and blue pixels at the bottom where the task bar should be until I disconnected and re-connected the VGA, then it was back to black screen and cursor) 3. Extend (still black screen and cursor) 4. Connect Projector (still black screen and cursor)
I'm not sure what to do. I must have some OS installed, because I am able to also perform these operations from my USB Keyboard/Mouse. I'm just not sure how to get Windows back on my VGA connection (I haven't tried HDMI because I did not have it connected when I ran the update.) I thought Duplicate displays would do the trick, but apparently not. For as beat up as the laptop is on the outside, the hardware performs fine. I also have a 2nd laptop (work laptop, also a Lenovo W541) that I can use if any solution involves downloading something bootable.
My computer screen turns black sometimes when I leave it for a minute. When I press the power button it doesn't turn on, to get it working again i need to hold down the power button for 20 seconds then press the power button again.
The black screen occurs before login screen. It happens randomly. I have to move the mouse (haven't tried pressing keyboard) and it will show the login screen and windows will continue normally. On my device driver it shows only 1 display adapter that is NVIDIA GTX 970. My motherboard is H87-PLUS and its specs shows that it does have an Integrated Graphics Processor.
Tried installing Intel Graphics Driver but just shows 'This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software.' Tried disabling the lock screen too but its not working. Tried putting PCI-E as the default graphics in BIOS but its not working either. how could I prevent the black screen from showing up again?
Recently I have wired to screens up as dual screens, they were working fine at day 1 but after the left screen (main monitor) has started turning itself off completely.
As soon as I boot, the screen goes black and I am greeted with the screen startup logo, then "no signal detected" Windows will only pick up the one screen (right monitor) until I restart the screen from the plug. My main monitor is connected via HDMI from the GPU into the screen, and the other DVI to HDMI adapter, again from the GPU, The weird thing is no matter what I try, it will always be the left screen, I have tried:
Swapping the screen over with another Changing plug sockets, System Refresh Swapping screen power supplies installing drivers swapping HDMI cables
I can only assume it's something to do with Windows, but what is it?
So I upgraded to Windows 10 and I was using it and shut down my computer. Now my computer turns on but won't load anything. It shows the windows loading screen for about 5 seconds and then goes blank and sits that way till I turn it off and restart.
I have an ASUS UX303ln with a clean install of Windows 10 in UEFI boot mode. It seems that: when I turn off the computer it turns off the screen and fans, but stays on, consuming an unusual amount of energy (in about 30% of the cases it actually turns off properly)When I hibernate the computer, same thing happensWhen I put it to sleep, in about 60-75% of the cases it won't wake up, instead it will just enter this high power mode with screen off, mentioned in the first bullet point.
These issues persist, even after turning off hybrid sleep, fast startup, hibernation, changing over to CSM boot, trying to downgrade/update drivers for Intel Bluetooth (which sometimes was stopped by windows due to not being Windows 10 compatible), the Management Interface, and Intel and Nvidia drivers.
Sometimes, when I shut down or restart Windows 10 64-bit, just before the screen turns black it makes the critical stop sound effect. It does not effect anything, the whole shut down process is like 3 seconds, which I really like in Win 10.
Nevertheless it bugs me a bit, I also had this sometimes in Win 7. I'm not running any programs while shutting down, it would notify me if I did.
I've been using Windows 10 for 2 days now since is released. One of the irritating things I've noticed that getting back from Lock screen is slow and I got the rotating loading circle for 5 seconds like I just login to Windows. I use all SSDs and even I'm not, that never happen in previous Windows versions!!
i've used win 8, and 8.1 since day 1, and have fallen inlove with the zippiness and productivity enhancing start screen. the start menu to me is taking 35 steps back to the 90s. now that i have 10, i want that back, is there an extension or 3rd party vendor who has come up with that?
What i used to have: and now what i have to deal with:
i want horizontal scrolling, not vertical. its more intuitive. second, i want to scroll with my mouse arrow, not the scroll wheel, i have my mouse set on fastest curser, and i could get to the end of my start screen apps in a quarter of a second, now i have to scroll, and scroll, and scroll, and now my finger is tired. third, the 3-app-wide app-group rule is just asinine. it makes you have to scroll even more because of that in and of itself. 4th, (purely aesthetics) how do i get rid of the taskbar when on the startscreen? it looks dumb.
so i installed windows 10 this morning and it went through the steps and got to a point in the install that says "Hi there, welcome back!" with a "next" button in the bottom right of the screen. When i click it nothing happens. If i click on the screen after about a minute it goes lighter blue and then reboots back to the very same screen.
While logged in the systems goes back to the login screen. I have checked all of the display and screen saver settings. But after a reboot it still happens after just a few minutes.
So.. I screwed up.. I used a small program called something like Windows 10 Login Background Changer (something along those lines) and when I restarted my computer, it never reached the login screen. I can move the mouse and open Magnifier (was pushing random controls), but I don't know how to get past here.
I tried to install Windows 10 fresh from a usb but it said my Windows 7 key didn't work and I never got a Windows 10 key so I'm not sure what to do, the upgrade install won't login. I enter password, then proceed but it locks up. if I click anywhere after a minute the screen goes black ave nothing happens.
a: where to get the Windows 10 key so I can do a fresh install
or b: how to fix this login screen
I tried safe mode repair but it said it's unable to repair and I should restart the pc.
