View 4 RepliesIs there a system file that contains the various new icons found throughout Windows 10 - something along the lines of imageres.dll? It would be nice to use some of these for shortcuts.

I understand that hibernation can be initiated via "shutdown /h" but that's not what I seek.
I use a VPN and Cortana and the OS thinks I'm somewhere else. Is there anyplace to put a zip code to force the OS to think you're in a specific location?

View 5 RepliesSomehow, I've managed to set the location for Music & Pictures to the same location i.e. K Drive.
Restoring to default locations makes no difference, or should I say that whatever change I do to Music is replicated in Pictures & visa versus.
How to sort this out.
I know how to set other folder than DOWNLOADS to be the default folder for downloading content from internet using Edge. However, I was wondering if that can be changed all the way so I get to choose download location every single time I download something, or can it be made to work as "save as"?
I download different stuff and I hate going into the downloads folder, and then moving files I want elsewhere..
I just reinstalled Windows 10 (clean). Now I see that I can't turn on Location Services, so I can't use cortana!
If I click on "change" (turn on) in the settings menu, nothing happens.
If I try to open cortana settings, nothing happens as well.
I often see in the notification tray that something is accessing location even though I am not actively using any apps. Can anything other than "apps" access location? The only app I have that has permission to access location in the "Location and Privacy Settings" menu is Cortana.
View 3 RepliesAs my desktop PC (like a lot of I suspect other PC's) doesn't have built in GPS, it means that whenever Windows 10 tries to automatically determine where am I (for example, when I'm looking at the built in map client, or Cortana is finding something nearby) it actually thinks I'm around 70 miles away.
Is there any way to manually set my actual location more accurately in Windows 10?
I use a program that turns the screen saver into a mail notification. All of a sudden the screen saver doesn't update. Just shows the same still even if I uninstall and reinstall the program. Tried to clean registry too. where Windows 10 stores the screen saver information so I can delete it?

View 1 RepliesDiscovered I can't turn on 'Location'.
1. I can click the 'Change' button in Privacy, Location, but nothing happens. ('Location is off' is displayed)
2. 'Location' is greyed out in the Action Centre
3. The Network Location Service is running
(I've tried stopping, starting it, restarting the PC).
then I discovered
4. Cortana does not appear in Toolbars (rt click taskbar)
5. The response to clicking Cortana in the start menu is to go to Store, Downloads and updates.
(Cortana was working a while back- I thin I turned it off at some point)
I have changed some things in Privacy, and tried to undo those. Everything else seems fine. I'm guessing I've turned sthg off or changed an option somewhere.
I have a small SSD holding my OS, and a large HDD for everything else. I am trying to change the default install path to my storage drive, but when I go to settings, system, storage, I am unable to change the default install path to my storage drive (F:). Everything else (pictures, documents, music, etc.) can be changed to F:, but app install can't. I am able to manually change it while installing programs, but I would like to set it as the default.

View 1 RepliesI use multiple monitors while at work (As I assume most people do now). One quirk I have seen on Windows 8/8.1 and now Windows 10 is how the start menu launches applications. Now that Windows has start menu access on all monitors is there a way to force the apps to launch on the monitor they are being launched from? For example, I use the start menu on Monitor 3 I would expect the app to launch on Monitor 3 not Monitor 1.

View 6 RepliesWindows 10 . How to change Program Files Location. i know in windows 7 and windows 8 all i had to do is go to ''HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersion'' and change ProgramFilesDir to the hard driver letter to the on that i prefer. same goes to the ProgramFilesDir (x86)
Now here is my real question... on windows 10 we still can do same as i mention above for both x86 and x64. but the problem is if i change the ProgramFilesDir (x86) on windows 10 most of the things on windows 10 stop working. if i change my ProgramFilesDir (x86) :C >>ProgramFilesDir (x86) : D i can't even open the run. and most of the other stuff doesn't response correctly either
I've (install windows 10/clean install ) multiple times. after installing is done, every time i go change the ProgramFilesDir (x86). PC stops responding correctly.
Somehow not sure if a update did it but cortana got turned off and so did my location stuff, so what the defaults are as i never played with it much, but want to reset it to default?
View 6 RepliesI have windows 10 pro and if I go to settings, then system, then notifications and actions and then turn system icons on or off, I'm presented with a list of various settings to turn on and off, one of the settings is location, it is off and it is greyed out. I've restarted numerous times....

View 3 RepliesI am looking for the location of the Start Menu Folder in File Explorer. I searched the internet, found it, and did some quick rearranging to the All Apps menu a few weeks back. I want to make some more changes and rearrangements and cannot seem to find this location again.
View 6 RepliesWhen I first upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10 all my Favorites imported into Microsoft Edge. At the time I didn't know that the Favorites for Microsoft Edge are stored in a different folder other than the Windows 7 folder of C:usersmikefavorites. I was told that they are stored in the folder C:UsersMikeAppDataLocalPackagesMicrosoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbweACMicrosoftEdgeUserDefaultFavorites
but this is only true for the Favorites that imported during the original Windows 10 Update. Any Favorite that I delete from the Favorites list in Microsoft Edge doesn't get deleted from the Windows 10 Favorites Folder. In addition any new Favorites I create in Microsoft Edge do not show up in the Microsoft 10 Favorites Folder either. So where the heck are they?
I'm going to reload my OS. I haven't been able to find the folder that contains the calendar data so I can back it up before my reinstall.
