I have W10 on 4 computers and each one is different regarding the lock screens "Choose apps to show detailed..." menu options. The PC i am on now shows none in both menus. and the other 3 show some but each is random in what it shows.
All PC's have all privacy options on and are signed in with a Live Account. How to add apps to this menu? Or is there a way to force W10 to add the apps to the menu so i can select them for the lock screen?
I can not get my pc to follow my Power and Sleep settings. After 5 minutes of inactivity, the screen is blank and I have to wake it and login.
View 6 RepliesWhen I start up my computer the lock screen shows 2 accounts. One has just my name, which I am trying to remove because it default tries to log into. The second is my microsoft @live account which Ive used from day one. When I go into accounts it shows I have 1 account on this computer, its the one I use @live to sign in. Really confusing and Im not sure that to do.

I tried setting up weather app, calendar and alarm app but NONE of them are showing up on the Lockscreen.Is it because Windows 10 is still being 'built-up' or is this a bug?
View 8 RepliesI can access the lock screen settings and I can see all available apps and have set a detailed status app and a couple of less detailed ones. However, when I actually get to the lock screen after having set the apps to appear, there is nothing but the time and date and WiFi in bottom-right corner.
Could this be because I am logging in locally rather than using a MS account?
Got mine installed today and went rather smooth. No major problems but one tiny annoying issue. We did the upgrade on 4 machines and 3 don't have this problem. I want to add mail and cal to my lock screen and it is not a option on my machine. (PRO others are home) After a couple reboots I got mail to show in the System->Notifications&Actions section but it wasn't for a while and CAL still is not.Did some searching but everything returns "missing my get windows 10 icon"
View 1 RepliesI'm using Windows 10 Pro. I installed the OS from the ISO file. There is one little bug though.
In the lock screen settings, in "choose an app to show detailed status", the place where I can add the apps for which I want detailed status to be shown like email, calendar, it is not showing. Instead, its showing "none". It means I cannot add an app for whose notifications I want to see in the lock screen.
Also, in "choose apps to show quick status", the only app that is shown is 'People'. No other app is shown.
I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and I am having some issues.
First one is: When I click jpg, gif, or any image files that uses the photo viewer as a default viewer, photo viewer pops up twice, one with the file I selected and one with the collection screen. It only does this on the first view of a image file after reboot. Once it does this, it doesn't do it until I reboot.
Second one is: I use a PIN as my login password. The number lock on the log in screen doesn't work. I almost always have to press NUM Lock button in order to use the number key pad. I checked the BIOS setting and Num Lock is on.
It used to be when I press the power button, followed by the restart option, my PC will immediately perform the restart action.
However, not sure when it began, now when I click the power button, followed by the restart option, the "Choose an option" menu appears instead. I then have to select the first option "Continue - Exit and continue to Windows 10", thereafter which my PC will restart as required.
Today when I tried to reset my laptop my battery died(I got up to 29% on the reset), because somehow my charger got unplugged. Now when I turn it on I get to the Logo (asus) then get a black screen. (I have tried taking the battery out and pressing the power button for a couple seconds and I got nothing) . I don't know what to do!
How can I enter the "choose an option" screen, the blue one. I can reset there. I chose continue to windows 10 and now i keep getting black screen after logo. is there like hotkeys to press while turning on??
My laptop was multibooted with windows 10 preview and windows 7..after 1st restart everythng was normal..but from the next restart my laptop screen is going black instead of showing the window CHOOSE YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM..i can see only the mouse pointer..but by seeig from the 1st restart , i knew that topmost and default option was windows 10 and the lower option was windows 7...
I clicked the topmost place where i used to see the option as windows 10 and then it loaded just like normal, next time i clicked the lowermost option and it started the windows 7..the problem is that i am getting black screen that i am invisible to the option of chooing the operating system..i is now in a condition that i have to click without seeing anything on the screen, but just by imagining.
I've had this problem a few days where I simply can't set a default browser (or any other default software from the settings) anymore. It let's me to go to the list and choose, say, Google Chrome, but then doesn't save my choice. I can revert to Microsoft's default settings in general, when the choice will stay as Edge. This bugs me the most when clicking on URL links in other software, they open up randomly in both Chrome (which I actively use) and Edge (which is the current default).
I have tried to set Chrome as the default browser from its own settings, too, but to no avail. Would also very much want to use VLC Player as the default for videos, but Win10 doesn't let me do it.

I'm trying to reset my PC to get out a temporary user profile I'm stuck on. Every time I start the reset process, I am sent to a frozen Choose Keyboard Layout screen. I can't use my mouse or touchscreen to choose a layout.
View 7 RepliesIt seems Microsoft has eliminated a feature I once used prolifically: Hardware Profiles. Windows-10 does have a "hardware profile", but it is nothing like what was in XP (or in Win-7, as I understand it). I want to know if there is an alternative in Windows-10 that allows me to control which Services are enabled or disabled from one session to the next, based on the currently selected profile (XP also had User Profile, but that's a different beast, and that still seems to exist in Win-10).
In the older O/S'es (XP, 2ooo, and NT for sure), you could set up multiple "hardware profiles" (silly name because it related as much to controlling Services as it did to controlling Devices). You give each profile a name, and set which one is the default startup if you let the screen time out. This is like the timeout in a multi-boot menu, and it's a menu that comes up right after the O/S menu if you are multi-booted. If you're single boot, it comes up at that same moment in the boot process.
Then, in the properties dialog for an individual Service, in the Logon tab (if I recall correctly, or maybe it was a "Startup" tab), those profile names you made will show up as a list allowing you to set enable at bootup or disable at bootup for each profile in that list.
I upgraded to Win 10 on Friday, and since, despite several resetting PC attempts, Win 10 will not load to the login screen. Instead, it is stuck on a loop flashing between the lock screen and a gray loading screen quickly back to the lock screen -- instead of loading to the login screen. This only happens when I attempt to restart or update my PC. If I go to the lock screen because I locked my PC or it fell asleep, I can unlock it. I have also attempted to reset my PC to the previous build, to no avail. I have no restore points.
View 1 RepliesI have had this issue for a long fing time now. like at least 10 clean installations of windows and it still keeps on happening. you can only imaging the amount to frustration im going through right now. I just did another clean install and now im trying everything to avoid this. I even tried switching to enterprise version of windows
I get this issue where the boot logo (win logo with circle) shows up twice. like once and then the screen goes blank for a sec and then i see that shitty thing again but its laggy this time.... I think this is the problem that finally leads to the start menu disappear thingy..
Since the latest update (It introduced the slide show of pictures on the lock screen. I think it is KB3124200) I haven't been able to press Enter or Space or any other key for that matter to "slide up" the lock screen photo to get to the password screen. I've looked through the lock screen settings, but I see nothing that could prevent this.
View 2 RepliesI upgraded from Windows 8 to 10 without a hitch an hour ago and kept all of my personal files and apps. I set up my start menu and everything was working fine, but I wanted to change the image on the logon screen (or whatever you call the screen in between the lock screen and the screen where you enter your PIN/info). So I took a risk and downloaded the 3rd party app here:
[URL] and uploaded an image and hit apply. Of course right after doing that I went to lock my PC to see if it worked, and as you can tell... it didn't.
I've tried rebooting and it hasn't worked. It's just very rapidly flashing between a blue screen w/ a loading circle and my lock screen image.
I just received this new wintel box with dual boot android and win10, the android version works fine, however, windows 10 behaves strangely, I click for example on MS edge, it launches, if you hover over it on the taskbar it shows with the small window but there is no way it actually launches on the screen! all the applications behave similarly, after fiddling a bit, I could only launch windows explorer by right clicking on the taskbar and choosing win explorer the only application that launched and I could actually see and work with.

This might be a stupid question but I havent found a solution for it myself, probably looking in all the wrong places.. would like to be able to have my computer go to the lock screen after an alotted time of inactivity without turning off the screen itself as in the power settings. I usually have screen shutoff/sleep set for longer periods but would like the screen to lock sooner.

View 1 Repliesso I recently did a clean install of Windows 10 on my laptop which I bought in 2011 with Windows 7 originally on it. The install worked perfectly fine and the OS works great except for one thing. When I select the restart option, the computer restarts and shows the Windows boot logo but then after that I just get a black screen. At that point, if I press the power button to put the computer in sleep mode and then press it again to take it out of sleep mode, the login screen appears. When I choose to shutdown and do a cold boot, everything's boots up fine. I do not have the computer connected to another video output source when restarting so it should know to project onto my laptop screen. All of my drivers (including graphics) are up to date as well as all Windows updates.
View 14 RepliesWhere your start screen/menu just crashes or vanishes after a second or two. This only started happening for me now in build 10166, and the menu was behaving beautifully in the earlier build (10162). I am unable to access all apps or customize my tiles. Most of the time it makes is very difficult to actually clck or tap on any of the tiles either to run something.
I've tried to change the configuration between "menu" and "screen" to see if its restricted to one of them, but both of them vanish after a few seconds.
I need a program which will show all the incoming and outgoing connections of the system from various process. The program should be able to point out the incoming weblinks as well to any programs in order to trace them back via web browser.
Or in other ways, an app to know from which links the other programs and downloading their files in order to trace them back and download them directly with a download manager.
