I downloaded Windows 10 and created a Microsoft account. I wrote down the password. The next day a log in screen appeared (which I never had before) so I tried to log in. My password didn't work. I tried everything. I called Microsoft and filled out a form and emailed it in. They Told me I have two step verification and they would have to download a program to my computer and I will lose all my software.

So the other day I noticed my only account on my laptop had lost administrator privileges. I looked up how to fix this and went about doing. I booted into "safe mode with command prompt" but that realized I didnt need that, just regular safe mode. I turned off my laptop, and turned it back on expecting a normal boot.
When it boots up, it goes straight to the windows login screen for "administrator". No matter how many times I hit ok it doesnt do anything or will start to load but eventually come back with, "account has been disabled. Please see system administrator". As of right now, that's all I can do with my laptop, so its pretty much useless to me. Is there a way to boot into safe mode using the power button or holding an F# key?
I was messing around with folders and stuff in Windows 10, now this Microsoft Office Outlook icon is stuck on my desktop all of a sudden and there is no way to get rid of it.
-Doesn't provide a delete option
-Selecting it and pressing the delete key nor shift+delete works
-Doesn't show up in explorer when you navigate to Desktop folder
-Doesn't appear in search results
-Even trying to open it does nothing
-Is visible when using the Unlocker program, but still no option to delete. Clicking 'OK' just closes Unlocker.
Wasn't really installing anything when I noticed it, and malwarebytes found nothing, so I'm pretty sure it's not a virus or anything.
-Someone told me to "hold shift, right click empty area on desktop, click open command window here in the right click menu, type dir & hit enter, type del "name"" but it didn't show up there either.
-I was asked if I ever had Office 2007 or how old my machine is, but the answer is no and I built this desktop in 2011, just last week did a fresh install of Windows 10 Home. Also, this just appeared today; never before.
-Was told its a registry entry, not a file, and to to look for it in regedit [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer but it's not there
-Told to delete {00020D75-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerDesktopNameSpace but it is also not there.
The only thing is that when I search for "Microsoft Office Outlook" in regedit, I get this file:
Deleted it and nothing happens. Reappears when you restart the computer.
I tried booting into safe mode as well as removing the latest windows update that occurred on the same day.
I am currently on a different computer than the one where I am locked out of the Administrator account.
Less than 3 weeks ago, I bought a new laptop that came with Windows 10 installed. When I finally set up the new laptop and tried out Windows 10 for the first time, I was annoyed at the whole thing with Windows blocking some programs from being installed and a lot of other annoying prompts. This is when I found out about a higher level of Administrator access known as a Super Administrator to avoid most of these prompts, and install programs without being blocked by Windows. So what I did created a new user account with the Command Prompt and gave it Super Administrator access without setting a password. Once I logged into my new user account, I deleted all of the other user accounts on my computer, since I had no need for the other user accounts (such as the Guest account).
The real trouble happened when my computer crashed and experienced a BSOD. After the computer rebooted from the BSOD, I found out that I could not log into the Administrator account because it prompts for a password, but I never set up a password for the account. Inputting no password does not work. I am not sure how a password was set up on the Administrator account without my knowledge and whether this might have been related to my BSOD crash.
I have made an attempt to get back into my only user account, but nothing has worked so far. All of the built-in Windows diagnostic tools have failed to work, since they all require that I log into the Administrator account, which I am unable to do. My original plan was to use the option to reset my PC that lets me keep my files, but that won't work without having access to the Administrator account. What password is on my Administrator account considering that I never set up a password and somehow the account now has a password on it. How to get back into my Administrator account?
I'm having a problem with Windows 10. I just created a local account then poof, taskbar & start menu is not working, search button won't open, I can't see the date and time, and no access at the PC settings. Is it because I'm not connected in the internet when I created a local account?
View 5 RepliesI was having issues in my original Windows Account where I was unable to use the search bar, windows button, or store, so I got to create a new account on my computer. I did, and the search bar and windows button now work. I copied my files from my old account to my new one, but I do not have the Windows 10 Store. When I try to download something, it says I need a new app: ms_windows_store.
Under This PC > OS (C:) > Users, I was able to see that under my new account, there are 6,000 less files even though I copied and pasted them all.
So my question is twofold, how do I get Windows 10 Store back, and when can I delete the files from my old account (I just doubled everything).
Then I used that to connect the onedrive. Then when I rebooted, I realised I had forgotten to write down the password. This means I cannot log into windows with my user id. I've tried calling, and the automated password reset website, but because I hadn't actually sent any emails or created any folders, I cannot recover my login. I'm losing 5 years of personal pictures, wedding pictures, music, podcasts, books... it is terrible and I haven't been able to sleep since I did it.

But, the boot time became so elongated, the net gave me some tips but to so, I had to use SAFE BOOT. But the old F8 would not work so I used the MSCONFIG. But, then Win 10 CREATED a new account using my email and password I had for Microsoft Live web site, DELETED MY OLD PATRICK AND REAL ADMIN ACCT. It took considerable time to figure the PW it was looking for.
So went back to regular boot, renamed the EMAIL name to the original PATRICK acct as it had been deleted,
They did give me ADMIN rights but that rarely works when you do some heavy lifting.
This leaves me with ONE ACCT, PATRICK with ADMIN RIGHTS, not with full ADMIN privileges.
So, lets create a REAL Admin account.

When I was converted, it converted the Home Premium to Home.
How to CREATE a REAL ADMIN on "Home"?
Now that there are no parental controls on local user accounts, I set up a Microsoft account for each of my children so that I can limit screen time and accessibility to websites. I am now trying to merge their old local accounts to the new Microsoft accounts. I can log in to their local accounts and I can log in to their new Microsoft accounts, however, I cannot sign in to the Microsoft account from their local account (I'm only assuming this is how to do it). I go to settings, accounts, Sign in with Microsoft Account instead, enter email and password, enter old password, click Next and get the message "Oops, something went wrong Whatever happened, it was probably our fault. Please try again."
My goal is to save everything they have on their local accounts (Minecraft files especially) and get it over to the Microsoft account so that I take advantage of the parental controls. So, deleting profiles is not an option, but if there is a way to get everything moved over, then I can delete the local account, but how to move everything over.
Title says it all. I like to boot up and log in with no password but I want to use my Microsoft account when I am fooling with store apps.

1. If I just open File Explorer, from left panel I drag and drop This PC to desktop and a shortcut will be created on desktop (This PC - Shortcut). If I right click on that shortcut and choose Properties, "This PC - Shortcut Properties" windows will be opened, which is NOT what I want.
2. I need This PC shortcut that when I right click on it and choose Properties, "Control PanelSystem and SecuritySystem" is shown! And I don't know how to create this one!
I changed the PC name and now I have no admin access so I am locked out of making any changes. How can I change it back? or am I hooped...

View 1 RepliesJust got a new laptop, when it started it up it asked me to create a username and password so I did. I then went into settings and click on sign in to my Microsoft Account so I could access my sons games, etc.
It says it's unable to connect or some error, try again or cancel are my options. Weird part is it doesn't even allow me to enter anything in it just goes right to you can't login.
I'm doing a system reset, if I can't login this time what do I do?
The situation is that I upgraded from win7 to 10 and I have a basic "local administrator account". When I go to my account settings and try to click on "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead", nothing happens (there is a brief background window that flashes and then nothing happens).
Similarly, if I try to login to the xbox one app, it also says that it could not sign me in. If I click on the "sign in with a different Microsoft account", it presents me with the option to "choose an account: Microsoft account". When I click on that, again nothing happens at all.
I get the same results if I try to turn on Cortana-- when she eventually asks to connect to a Microsoft account, I click "sign in" and again nothing happens (here again I sometimes see a brief window flash in the background but I never get a login screen.
Last but not least, I get this same result if I try to add a Microsoft account to the Mail App in Win10. As soon as I try to click to add an Outlook/Hotmail account, it flashes and nothing happens. I am able to add other types of accounts to Mail (google, etc). (Oh, and if I try to login to the Microsoft Store I also get the same login problem as described).
I'm really bummed b/c I cannot use a lot of features in Windows 10 and how to hook into a Microsoft account.
Things I have tried: I run windows updates constantly just to be sure, I have rest my "clock" and time settings repeatedly, I have made sure my location settings are turned 'on'. I have tried turning all of these things off and then on, then rebooting and checking for updates...still no way to login to Microsoft account .
Now I can't remove accounts or change one letter spelling error in calendar name. Will I be able to if I some how get out of the whole Microsoft account login in Win 10? Should I just try to add an additional calendar with the same name but correct spelling? I would like to be rid of the start up log in and the feeling of not being in control. I am in my seventies and usually OK with sorting out issues but dealing with all the new stuff at once is a bit much.
View 4 RepliesI am enjoying my upgrade of Windows 10 except for I can't sign-in with my Microsoft account. I went from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro. I can log in with a local account (same as Windows 7). I can't download any apps from the Windows Store, Microsoft Edge doesn't work like it should. BTW, when I click on "sign in with Microsoft account instead" in the settings, a window wants to pop up but suddenly disappears.

But every time I click on the " Sign in with a Microsoft Account instead' nothing happens! As a result I can't use the essential MSN apps !
