Problem with the logon screen with windows 10. I upgraded on the morning of Saturday 8th August, without any serious problems. However, later on in the afternoon, I had to do a restart, after a virus/malware scan and removal of infections. The OS was updated at this point, after which a serious problem occurred. Once the OS reached the logon screen, it started flashing on and off between Logon screen and time/date start up picture, with the cursor showing busy. It also reported an error message to do with LogonUI .
I had no way to Logon, or to open task manager, so i had to boot into safe mode, and attempt various problem solving solutions read elsewhere for this issue on the net. None of these worked, so i had to roll back to Windows 7 for the time being. Should i upgrade again, this issue will have to be resolved.
Finally, though, i'm led to believe that LogonUI is malware, and not an important system file, but should it be removed, would this be the cause of the issue?
I would assume people may want to tinker with their logon screen background picture. (an example of this screen, to clarify, is below)
This is the picture that is behind the logon screen, which is by default the Windows 10 hero wallpaper. If you would like to change this image to your accent color, here's how
WARNING: To do this option, you will have to mess with registry settings. As you may know, registry settings influence the way Windows works on your machine. Therefore, if you do something incorrectly, you may have to reinstall Windows. Proceed with caution.
The first step is to open Run (+R) and type regedit
Once Registry Editor opens, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWindowsSystem. There, make a new DWORD value called DisableLogonBackgroundImage and set the value to 1 to change it to your accent color. If you ever wish to revert this change, setting it to 0 will revert it back to the 'Hero' image.
Restart and your logon screen background will now be your accent color that you have selected. If it changes, the color of your logon screen will change as well.
Windows 10 x64 had been working fine. Yesterday, I noticed the system had gone to the spinning circle... I walked away and gave it overnight, but no change. After reboot, I get to the login screen for 30 seconds or so - with no user accounts showing - then it goes to the solid blue screen with spinning dot circle. I suspect the latest update was applied "while I was sleeping".
What I've tried:
Rebooting (Goes to same place) Safe mode (same login screen - no user accounts listed) System Restore (No restore points - argh! why?!?!) System Image Recovery (No system images found) Startup Repair (allows either admin to authenticate, says "Diagnosing your pc" , then fails) -- logs to d:windowssystem32logfilessrtsrtrail.txt, open in notepad, shows no errors, "OS booted successfully" Command prompt (works - but what should I look at?) Go back to previous build - save my files (fails at about 40%) - I would prefer not to delete my files. (though they are backed up)
I've disabled the logon screen but after a week it asks for the password again. This is on a Dell pc. I have 2 other pcs, Asus and HP and the login stays disabled.why the login screen won't stay disabled?
I am using a Dell Venue 8 Pro with Windows 10 installed. Everytime after Windows Update reboot, the touch keyboard will not be shown on the Logon Screen. I have to use image password to login, and it will resume normal until the next time another Windows Updates are installed.
I upgraded to Win 10 on Friday, and since, despite several resetting PC attempts, Win 10 will not load to the login screen. Instead, it is stuck on a loop flashing between the lock screen and a gray loading screen quickly back to the lock screen -- instead of loading to the login screen. This only happens when I attempt to restart or update my PC. If I go to the lock screen because I locked my PC or it fell asleep, I can unlock it. I have also attempted to reset my PC to the previous build, to no avail. I have no restore points.
I upgraded from Windows 8 to 10 without a hitch an hour ago and kept all of my personal files and apps. I set up my start menu and everything was working fine, but I wanted to change the image on the logon screen (or whatever you call the screen in between the lock screen and the screen where you enter your PIN/info). So I took a risk and downloaded the 3rd party app here:
[URL] and uploaded an image and hit apply. Of course right after doing that I went to lock my PC to see if it worked, and as you can tell... it didn't.
I've tried rebooting and it hasn't worked. It's just very rapidly flashing between a blue screen w/ a loading circle and my lock screen image.
I am running windows 8.1 and upgrade to windows 10. Install went fine but after final reboot I'm left with a flashing screen. when I turn off the laptop and reboot I get the login window I login to windows and the screen continues to flash, I cant access the start menu. how do I uninstall windows 10 and start again.?
I installed windows 10 on my machine last week which went fine with no errors. Since then, I have come into work everyday and found the computer idling at the login screen, flashing and not responding. Just a constant flashing until I turn it off. Because of this I've had to reset windows under the troubleshoot option on start up. Safe mode doesn't work, and back up restore doesn't either. I wanted to add that I don't receive an error code or message.
A friend upgraded their computer (HP Compaq 6710q) to Windows 10 recently. It boots up ok, but after about a minute the screen starts flashing periodically. Nothing can be done or executed on the computer.
Flashing screen on new Windows 10 install. I figured out how to return to Windows 8.1. It's restoring on my notebook as I typing this question on my Desktop. I Googled 'flashing screen' and it seems to be a common occurrence.
Today when I started my computer I logged in and after than I get a black screen with my cursor and desk bar flickering and can't do anything. When I press ctrl all delete and go to task manager it says nothing is running. I can't click anywhere or do anything except start up the task manager..
I tried upgrading last august from windows 7 and encountered the dreaded flashing screen. it was not all that easy to revert to windows 7 with a minimally unresponsive computer but i managed to do it. Question - Has this issue been resolved and will I encounter the same problem again if I try the upgrade again? Windows 7 is working fine on my desktop HP and I really don't want to deal with the hassle again.
My computer has always been fine, until one day i was getting pop ups and redirected randomly, i notice a strange file called "techsmart computer" and was trying to delete it but couldn't so i wanted to go into safe mode and forcibly remove it, i open the start up menu simply check safe mode only and restarted, ever since all i see is the black screen with it loading with nothing else no repair, error message just it loading then it goes to the login screen the blue one and for some strange reason it is flickering as it its turning on/off and its a never ending load! if i press the power button its shutting down and it stops flickering, i searched online for solutions and nothing relevant and of the possible solutions i cant do because i can never get into the login screen, this is not a instillation issue or driver or graphics card, etc... started ever since i checked the safe mode, i want to mention i'm writing this using a different computer, also don't know if its a 32 or 64 bit.
I put window 10 on my dell XPS-420 I sign in it goes to my home page and the screen keep on flashing i can not do anything the arrow that the mouse move there's a blue circle that keeps on going and when it stop the screen stop flashing too it last 10sec then it start to flashing again with the blue circle keep turning like it up date something well it 2 days and the same thing the pc on for 2 days too ...
Searching about the issue online, it seems that this can be caused by norton or iCloud software, or two Microsoft background services that you have to disable in MSconfig to stop the screen flashing. I don't have norton or iCloud, and I disabled the two services. Still happening. Can't find anything else online that mentions how to fix this. Also apparently for most people the flashing doesn't start until they've reached the desktop already, whereas for me it starts before I can even do anything. PC completely unusable.
I was watching some vids on YouTube and then all the suddenly a msg pops up on my taskbar. I was going to see what it has to say but then the screen all the suddenly starts flashing. I clicked once and it went dark. I put it on hibernation then woke it and I was able to move my cursor but the OS didn't respond. It's ok now but I am afraid of viruses and things like that. The message icon was a triangle with an exclamation mark in it. I am currently running Windows 10 64-bit on a Lenovo T410
I installed windows 10 from 8.1 on my Vision E2 Gateway. When I sign in, the desktop keeps flashing a black screen every second. It doesn't allow me to open anything, I can't click on any icons visible, and this has been happening ever since I first signed in with windows 10. Is it a virus or something? It can't be that my computer isn't compatible, because it TOLD me it WAS.
I have an Acer Aspire 5830TG-6642 Laptop, i upgraded to windows 10 last night and upon opening my laptop today and resuming i cannot proceed past a black screen with a flashing underscore in the top left corner.
A Gigabyte Z97X Gaming G1 Motherboard An Intel i7 4790K CPU 16 GB DDR4 Patriot Memory sticks Samsung EVO 240GB SSD Nvidia 256 GB Graphics card Corsair CX750 Power supply
I immediately bought Windows 10 for it, and for the most part the computer worked fine the last few months. Every once in a while I would get a "Driver Stopped Working but has Recovered" that messed up the Windows control bar and required a restart to fix, but that stopped happening eventually with updates. I still got BSoD's from time to time, including "faulty hardware corrupted page."
Today I got a BSoD when I was logging in called "DPC Watchdog Violation," which I had seen before I think so I figured it would just restart and be fine. However, now I cannot restart the computer, because after the Gigabyte motherboard logo, all I get is a blue screen that flashes on and off quickly. It is just a blue screen, sometimes with a dot in the middle. No matter what I cannot get past this infinite flashing screen, even in safe mode. Commands from the keyboard do nothing once I reach this screen although I can the mouse around. I can enter the special Windows control menu before getting to the flashing blue screen, but nothing has worked from there
Things I've tried: -Disabling restart after BSoD -- no effect -Restoring system image -- error, then no effect -Resetting Windows -- no effect (although I've lost all my applications now) -Removing my graphics card and plugging my monitor directly into the motherboard -- no effect -Updating BIOS -- no effect
Currently trying to figure out something I can do in the registry. My last option is completely redownloading Windows 10 without saving files, but I'm not confident that will work given everything else I've tried.
