Dec 19, 2015On Windows 7 I also used to have my Favourites running down the left of the desktop on my Windows 7 and I can't find them on Windows 10.

View 4 RepliesWith the last update for win 10 I lost most of my favorites. I created a new folder in favorites but cannot find it on my PC. Where is it stored?
View 6 RepliesAfter the install of windows 10 there were 2 columns in the start menu. I deleted those and filled up one column. How to get a second column to the right of the first column?
I've added a shortcut to a new sub-menu and can drag and drop it above and below the first sub-menu, but not to the right.
When I put cursor over windows button in bottom left hand corner of screen it changes colour but I get no other response. Right click on it works fine?
View 1 RepliesInstalled the 10041 iso, ran windows updates and now I have lost my start screen/menu.
View 9 RepliesI'm not sure what to do. I ran a few cleanup programs. adwcleaner, ccleaner, etc and opened up edge and all the bookmarks were gone. But also to add I imported Google Bookmarks from my phone into the bookmarks also. So I had all my bookmarks in one place. But the Edge bookmarks were only saved on Edge and I can't remember those important websites I need.
View 1 RepliesIE allowed me to easily pin my favorites - which I used EVERY TIME I opened the browser - on the left side of the screen. This was incredibly easy and intuitive from the get go! NOW I CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO THAT IN EDGE!
Do they even bother to survey end-users anymore, before they go messing around with a perfectly good browser?
A long while ago I downloaded SymMover and managed to really mess up my files. I managed to take Favorites, Desktop, and Downloads out of what I'm pretty sure is called the Navigation Pane. I have 2 different Download folders in the Pane, neither of which are the actual one, and I do not know where my Desktop folder is. I can get to it if I follow a link in my User file, but that's it.

Do I need to restore my computer to factory settings?
How do you scroll the desktop (with the aps) in Windows 10 from left to right instead of up and down. I used my landlord's laptop and his scrolled right to left but he didn't make it that way so he doesn't know.
View 1 RepliesHow do you make the desktop in Windows 10 scroll right to left instead of up and down. I just don't like it going up and down. Other than this I like everthing in Windows 10 except I cant figure out how to get rid of the Xbox app. It was a smooth transition from Windows 7 and no problems
View -1 RepliesI upgraded to Win 10 from Win 7 yesterday. I now have a translucent rectangle on the upper left corner of my screen. It's a lighter shade than the background color of the desktop. Can't move or remove it & don't know what caused it but it is distracting as it also appears on screen when running an app. How did you fix?
View 1 RepliesI move the icos to where I want them but as soon as I refresjh the Desktop they go to the left in an unordered fashion.
Now, I want to go back to 8.1 but would like to know if I can migrate back to Windows 10 in the future when all the bugs are sorted out.
I just installed windows 10 on my laptop
ASUS ROG G751JM Laptop
NVIDIA GeForce GTX860M with 2GB
1TB HDD 7200 RPM With 256 GB SSD
1.5TB HDD 5400 With 128 GB SSD
1TB HDD 5400 With 8 GB SSD
Intel Core I7 HQ-4710 2.5 G
Memory 8G
When I start some programs the program will start up normal, It shows up as running in the task bar I can even alt-tab and see the running program but I cant see the program on my desktop in order to interact with it. I have tried cascading all my windows it still will not show up. Ive tried right clicking the program on the task bar and selecting "move" that does not work. This only started when I installed windows 10. Some of the programs that wont show up are.
ASUS GPU Tweak
Netflix
Control Panel (occasionally happens but can get it back by restarting computer)
I just moved to another country and forgot my extra hard drive, so I didn't back up my files before upgrading to Windows 10. The installation went fine. After the install was done, I tested out a number of programs with no problems. Satisfied, I migrated my old desktop files over (for some reason Window's decided to not migrate them on its own). Upon restarting my computer for updates, I noticed my desktop had reverted back to what Windows 10 had originally set it up has, with little more than recycle bin and a few really random programs shortcutted. Curious as to where it migrated my old desktop files, I began to search ... nothing in my old user settings desktop file ... the recently found links all display the message 'file may have been deleted or moved' ... windows search turns up nothing for any file I had on the desktop. I am closing in beyond afraid that I've lost all of the files on my desktop in some glitch or migration error.
View 9 RepliesA customer brought me a machine with an issue I have never seen before. All desktop icons were gone and the only thing on the desktop is 3 lines in the upper left (opens an empty start menu), 3 lines in the lower left (opens all programs list) and the power button above that. I have managed to bring the desktop icons back but when I click the start menu it switches from the desktop with icons to the above mentioned screen with no icons. When it is on this new screen you can't right click on anything. A new user works as it should.
View 2 RepliesWhenever I connect my laptop to the TV via hdmi cable my desktop icons are moved and auto aligned in vertical columns down the left hand side of the page (my desktop). I have to drag them back to where I want each time. It's a fairly minor nuisance, but is there any way to avoid this, I've searched but can't find a definitive answer.
(I've tried, right clicking and unchecking 'align icons to grid' but that doesn't make any difference, it still always happens).
Only once in a blue moon do I see clean shortcut icons without arrows. It's almost always shortcut icons overlaid with black squares on the lower left corners. I had checked the Windows Registry against the steps in the article twice to find that they were all correct.
View 1 RepliesToday I have suddenly lost my desktop wallpaper screen just all black accept for my few icons down the left hand side of the screen and the taskbar along the bottom. Have checked in my settings, personalization page and their all there but it will not accept any change to the screen and display it. As I am still learning to use the new windows 10, I accept that it could be my own fault while I am exploring the new systems I tried going back over all the things I have experimented with.
View 3 RepliesI have lost all my Favorites in Edge. I have recovered a copy of the desired Favorites and have placed these favorites on my desktop as a file folder. The file structure has all the folders, and within each folder, the links to all the favorite websites. I have tried placing the contents of this file into the following location:
C:UsersAdminAppDataLocalPackagesMicrosoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbweACMicrosoftEdgeUserDe fault
I understand that this is the default location for Edge Favorites. With the desired "Favorites" folder placed and verified in the above location and I open Edge and click on Favorites and all I see under Favorites are two folders "Favorites Bar" and "BookmarksBar" (as expected both currently empty). I had hoped to see also an expandable "Favorites" folder with all the subfolders. How to use the previous referenced Desktop file folder or its content to restore my Favorites in Edge.
I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10 over 4 days ago. After windows 10 was up, all the folders/files in my desktop were moved somewhere. I did a file search and moved them back to the desktop. I was on a general user admin account. Shortly after, I logged into my outlook account on windows 10. Could still see all the files/folders on my desktop.
But when I rebooted my pc for 1st time after upgrading to windows 10, all the desktop files/folders disappeared. File search could only find the icon links in ..../Recent folder. No physical files/folders exist for those icon links. Online MS techs had tried to look into my pc remotely but they could not find anything. One online tech suggested Office 365 could recover them since the files may be saved in Office app, but I used Office to search for the files with no success.
All other personal files/folders not saved on desktop are still OK. All was lost for the files/folders on desktop?
I seem to have lost Desktop as a print to and Quick Access location. Seemed to coincide with this past Tuesday's update (3/1/16). Also lost Desktop as a print to location.
View 7 RepliesWin10 auto updated my pc. Lost files book marks, desktop ,shortcuts.I don't know what else has been lost and I won't know till I hunt for something.
View 3 RepliesI just upgraded to W10 from W8.1 and have lost my desktop short cuts and files. How do I recover them. During the upgrade process it said all files were transferred properly. I have looked at windows.old, but don't know what to look for or how to recover them from that file.
View 9 RepliesI've made sure my games aren't muted, reinstalled realtek drivers, changed output sources, ...restarted the computer..., verified game cache, so on so on.
I thought it was just for steam games, but it happens in Origin, Uplay, and Minecraft as well. Twice now loading the defaults in UEFI bios has temporarily fixed it., but it doesn't work every time.
Haven't changed anything, have the latest updates for everything, and i don't have a virus.

how I can get rid of this
View 9 RepliesAfter activation, the IE Favorites + Bar didn't install from Windows 8.1. I attempted to install using The Hub but it came back with 'Couldn't import favorites' from IE. I managed a manual install using cut and paste from the legacy IE file to the Favourites file in Win 10. This was successful for both Favorites and Favorites Bar, but it only lasted until the the machine was rebooted. The Favorites/Bar were once again missing from Win 10.
