When I press/click on Start, and then type 'Power' for instance to get PowerShell, I want to right click and Run as administrator. Somehow that is gone. I can only Pin to Start. Did updates, reboots, etc. I cannot even click and drag icons from the Start menu - just has a red X. I had to make a shortcut on the desktop to run PowerShell as an admin. It works on another Windows 10 machine no issues.

I am using a Toshiba 64-bit laptop running Windows 10 Home, 8gb memory, 1T hard drive.
For almost a week, I have been unable to change from one app to another by clicking on them on the Taskbar. To access a different app, I have to minimize all the apps I have open and then click on the one I want on the Taskbar.
I looked at the recent Windows updates and saw some updates to MS Office. I did a repair on MS Office but that did not fix anything. Since this involves all applications on the Taskbar, it would seem to be a Windows problem
Updated my Win 7 Pro x64 computer last night to Windows 10. Now can't click on the start menu items or really any windows menu. Some other random things won't accept a left click either. Chrome seems to respond just fine but not firefox. I'm puzzled. I have a Razer Naga 2014 but tried a Cheap little logitech mouse with same results. I also logged into my machine Via team viewer from work and left click still doesn't work on things.
I'd be totally fine doing a fresh install but not sure of the procedure yet to have it activate without installing windows 7 first then doing the upgrade again.
I was able to attach files using the combination of gmail and Windows 8. However, since I upgraded to Windows 10, I have been unable to attach the same files in gmail. The Attach files GUI opens, I select the file to attach, click OPEN, and the system goes back to the GUI without linking to the selected attachment. Double-clicking doesn't work, either. No attachment.
View 2 RepliesI upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7. All was working fine. Now, I can't access the modern start screen, cortana or apps. The following things might have cause this: I changed my PCs name, I installed more ram, I created a local log in and there was an update just before this happened. I tried to use a restore point but the laptop said it failed. I have tried the powershell solution with no luck. I have tried creating a new user but it won't let me add a new user.

I move my touchpad thinking I'm going to get to the login screen but still nothing happens. I hit the power button on my laptop to shut down and it does that. I turn on my computer I'm able to get to the login screen. I put my password then I see a black screen. I have IObit Advanced SystemCare so in the corner that's what I see but the rest is black. I wait for a while nothing happens then shut off the pc. Same thing happened and then I think at the third or fourth time I turn on my computer then go to the living room and come back and it's fixed. I play Minecraft so I was doing that. I also have a touchpad issue where when I hold the keys down I can't move my mouse but I already know the solution for that and so when I go to click the start button nothing happens. I was confused and thought maybe it was just slower than normal. I clicked the search button; nothing happened. I then search up on the web "unable to click start button on windows 10" and I find a post with a solution but wasn't really for me:

Win 10 Enterprise. Worked fine for a couple of days, but now I cannot seem to bring up the start menu and start typing anything. It will not search. I also tried in the search box or spyglass... I just click on it and nothing happens. It is a major inconvenience. I don't want to do a restore and keep my files, because there is a HUGE list of applications I will then need to restore. I also tried to click on Cortana, but clicking the app does nothing, doesn't even bring it up.
I tried re-indexing search items, I tried the search troubleshooter. I have rebooted, I have installed all updates. Someone on another forum said kill the Cortana task... well there isn't one running.
Whats up with the missing text labels? Sometimes its my start menu sometimes its the right click menu.
View 7 RepliesI have just upgraded to Win10 and most items on the "Power User Command Menu" do not work if the menu is accessed by right-clicking the Start Menu button on the Task Bar. The only items that do work are Search, Run, Shut down and Desktop. If the menu is accessed by the other means, the menu items work fine.
I've tried SFC and a day searching the web with no luck.
The computer is a Toshiba laptop running an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5500 with 4 Gb of memory. I don't know what the proper name for the "Power User Command Menu" may be, but that's the only way I've seen it referenced elsewhere.
This problem is on a desktop computer (HP Pavilion). When I click the start button, the start menu does not display. Pressing the Windows key on the keyboard also does not take me to the start menu.
I can access the right-click menu on the start button and most of the items on the right-click menu respond correctly when clicked (a few don't. No response from "Search" and "Desktop"). I ran a driver uninstaller app found on this forum and then downloaded and installed the recent NVIDIA GeForce drivers for my dual GT640 cards (3 monitors).After rebooting, Geforce indicated a new updated driver and I downloaded and installed that as well.The only menu items that will work when right-clicking Start Menu are the "Run" and "Search" options. I'm running the RTM on a netbook and have noticed that, unlike in Windows 7/8/8.1, I'm no longer able to hit Start and type in an executable. I have a bunch of portable apps that I typically type in and pull up. Now, the Start menu search pulls up ever OTHER file except the executable. It's very annoying and don't see why this shouldn't work.
What's worse, is if I pin the app to the start menu, it doesn't search it then. Say, I pin "puttyportable.exe" as a shortcut (and rename it to just PuTTY) to the start menu. Typing in "putty" gives me nothing - just the same associated files that were in the puttyportable folder (ini files, etc).
I installed Windows 10 very recently and I like it, but I have a VERY BIG show-stopper: when I try to do search in the start menu, it's terrible; it cannot even find an application that I have manually pinned to start. I didn't have any such problem with Windows 8.1. I have also installed some other desktop applications, for example GitHub for Windows, but when I start to to type "Git...", it only finds "GitHub" and it cannot find "Git Shell" and I have to go to all programs, find "G", then expand the folder for this application and run that application.

when I right click on the start menu and the conext menu appears like this:
the only links that works are the first four starting from the botom (desktop, shutdown, run & find), when I click on any other option in the menu nothing happens.
It's not a terrible problem because I can access to the same links in other ways but this menu is really usefull.
The first 2 days after upgrade from win 8.1 this menu worked OK but suddenly stop working. In the middle I installed several programas, uninstal others and update some drivers. But I don't know when exactly start this behaiviour.
Is there any way to set the color background on this? I don't much like the dark with white letters, I'd rather have a white background and black letters.

The sart menu button does not activate anything, search doesn't either, Notification bubble does not open anything either.
Safe mode produces same behaviour, I have uninstalled AVG Anti virus as some people were correlating AV software with this behaviour.
I can right click on the start button but not left click

Cortana always asks me to switch my speech language, but if I ignore that it works and answers typed questions. (no microphone). I can type in words like Control panel or file explorer or device manager and they work. Clicking on the menu items does nothing. There are many old threads on this forum on the subject, but none of them work. (cannot try the restore computer option due to large data files and existing programs). Just checked on my laptop and it all works as it should (except Cortana)...
I'm fully up to date on W10 x64 and have just noticed that I can no longer (as in, I could a few days ago) right click on certain apps to run as admin. I can't even use the 'menu' keyboard button to open the right click menu either, this does nothing.
I *can* do so on things like Wordpad and notepad, but 'admin-y' apps like Control Panel, Device Manager, and Administrative Tools show no menu when I right click, nothing appears or happens.

Had a buddy pick up a laptop (W10 home) (lavono) setting up his web connection WIFI, when I was messing around with things I did a rfi9ght mouse click on the start menu where the other items are, and found it was "white" background with black lettering??
I was wondering how to set this? I have the black background with white lettering (W10 Pro) is this the way it is for the different versions home vs pro, or is there a setting to change this? I'd rather have the background white with black lettering.
Yes I know about the personal settings and the colors thing, and the items to check, but nothing seems to change that one area as far as I can see. There's no white color to choose on my list of colors anyway.
I do not know what happened, but I lost some file associations, such as opening .torrent files and magnetic links with utorrent and text files (.ini, .txt etc.) with Notepad++. Additionally, Start Menu and tray options, such as volume slider and wi-fi menu are not opening anymore. Settings starts, though. Do not allow web search.
Don't search the web or display web results in Search.
Don't search the web or display web results in Search over.
However, as usual I'm looking for a way to do this via registry.
My windows 10 left click menu doesn't bring up the menu tray anymore since after I shut down my system using the alt+f4 combination keys. Likewise, neither the running apps tray nor the network one opens up on left click. I also cannot multitask anymore as I can only open one folder, seeing as the non functionality of the left click options limits my ability to. I've had these exact issues before which forced me to reinstall the OS from scratch. But I can't always install the software as it requires time and some backing up.
