I have 2 monitors on my system. When the system comes up from power saving mode (unsure if in true sleep mode but user password is required) the task bar on the primary monitor is missing. The secondary monitor has it but not primary touch screen. I've tried various things like toggling auto hide, etc, to no avail but restarting brings it back.

It started happening today only, and it seems to happen more when i'm gaming/my video card is under some stress.
When i go into microsoft event viewer and look at critical error messages I have
kernal power event id 41- task category 63 and driverframework 10110 event id errors.

Ok, I have read several people having problems with the sleep/power save modes.
I have a similar problem. I can't keep my screen from going blank. Now what I have done is I went into the power save and sleep modes and had everything set to "never" including "none" on screensaver. Well in 5 minutes the screen goes blank but the computer, drive and my previous items & webpages are right where I left them. I also tried setting the time the display goes to sleep for 30 minutes and it stills goes into blank mode in 5 minutes. My assumption is, no matter what I set the power/save and screensaver to it still goes into a 5 min no activity screen blank.
Computer is a HP ENVY dv7, AMD A10,Quad core with 16Gb mem; 650Gb drive. Previous OS Windows 8.1. All drivers were updated to latest before update to Windows 10.
I'm looking for a program to make speakers not consume power when no audio is playing. Is it possible?

View 3 RepliesI installed windows 10 about a week ago and all was working fine until I decided to try sleep mode a couple of days ago. I activated sleep mode but noticed after powering off that my PC was turning back on for a few seconds before powering back off in a loop. I didn't think to much of it and powered it off at the wall thinking that would clear any sleep errors. Well I've come back to use it after a couple days and it's still is stuck in a power loop of starting for 3 or 4 seconds before powering back off again in a continuous loop!
No chance to go into the bios, no sign of windows, just an endless power cycle!
A couple days ago I used safe mode to fix a startup program causing a bsod. Possibly worth noting: I had to use a bootable Windows 10 USB, use the repair options, enter the "BCDEDIT /SET {DEFAULT} BOOTMENUPOLICY LEGACY" command, to then use F8 to access boot options and safe mode.
The problem I'm facing now is some other (not all, fortunately), unrelated programs (or apps or whatever MS feels it's trendy to call them) are showing up as if they were just installed. Anything that's user settings was reset.
I don't regularly use safe mode, so my questions are:
- Is safe mode known for resetting software to default/factory settings?
- If yes, what would be an efficient way to prevent it? Maybe backup the relevant data and restore it after using safe mode?
- If safe mode does not reset anything, what could have caused my settings to be lost in the Warp? Enabling the "legacy" (F8-friendly) boot shouldn't have anything to do with this... right?
Most notably, Launchy and BitTorrentSync were reset to "just installed" state. There might be more I just didn't run yet.
In W10 when I leave my laptop in sleep mode overnight, it uses about 10% of battery life. In windows 7 it was way less, to the point that it wasn't even noticeable.
where I should start looking?
I have a Thinkpad X220T
While using Windows 7 I often disabled my wireless connection by using the f12 function key. It was disabled when I upgraded to Windows 10 via my ethernet connection. The f12 key now only controls airplane mode. I cannot enable my wireless adapter. I have an HP Pavillion dv7 notebook computer. HP says they offer no Windows 10 compatible upgrades for this model. Is there a solution other than restoring Windows 7?
View 6 RepliesJust installed Windows 10 about a month or two ago, and ever since I upgraded (from Windows 7), whenever a program enters full-screen mode (a game for example), the monitor cycles its power off and back on for a quick second, which causes it to display its "power-on" logo on the screen (in this case, the Acer logo), and wait a few seconds before it goes back to the correct display.
I watched lately when it started doing this, and the blue light that shows monitor power actually flicks off for a quick second, and then comes back on. I've never seen it do this before, but it's like maybe Windows 10 is changing the monitor display output to some insane resolution maybe, and causing it to power itself off for a second? Or it's turning the output off for a second?
Ran win 10 for a couple of days, all seemed fine. this morning I awoke to a black, blank screen tried to restart computer and got an "Entering Power Save Mode" on the screen for a few seconds, that's it ! I now have a Dell XPS anchor...

View 1 RepliesI installed an application "Clone File Checker" and uninstalled that using "iObit Uninstaller" with Power Unistall" option. After that, i am not able to open Control Panel, Programs & Features, Power Options and System from the Start Menu. Clicking on each of these gives an error in the enclosed screenshots, but all of them display the error message "This file does not have an program associated with it to perform this action. Please install a program, or if one is already installed, create an association in the Defaults Program Control Panel". Only the file names are different. When I try to set the Default Applications, I do get a similar error message.
Moreover, clicking on the File Explorer from the Start Menu opens the Explorer screen, but when I pin to the Taskbar and subsequently attempt to open tit from Task Bar, I get an error message.
I've notice that on windows 10 and 8.1, task manager would show the my max cpu core speed is 2.3-2.4 ghz. However, my Core 2 Quad q8400 is rated at 2.66 ghz. I tried changing the power settings in windows and try lowering my cpu temperature, but my speed would never reach 2.66 ghz.

This does not happen in my Microsoft Surface Pro machine. Both machines, desktop and Surface have the same software installed so it's hard to believe this CPU usage is software based.
I have 3 monitors connected to dual NVIDIA GeForce GT640 video cards.
The MB is ASRock Z77 Professional-M with Intel i3-3220 @3.3ghz
Windows 10 Professional 64.
When I manually put the system to sleep and come back later in the day and tap the spacebar to start the system back up again, the system spins up but I have no display. It seems the only way to get it back is to power down and back up again.
For some reason my pc keeps turning itself on when in sleep mode. Here is a log from event viewer:

I upgraded from 8.1 to 10 and had no problems for a while until I began using sleep mode. About every night or two when in sleep mode, my system shuts down. I'm not here when it does so I don't see a blue screen and appear to have no other problems. I used WhoCrashed and get this info every single time I check it.

I can build computers but I suck at figuring out problems like this. All the drivers are up to date and since this started, Nvidia has had 3 driver updates that I've tried that make no difference.
I want to check if I run safe mode. I know that it says "safe mode" in the corner but is there any other way to check?
View 1 RepliesI updated to W10 and have had no problems and this one really isn't a big deal but it's got my OCD going. I have sleep set after 25 minutes and that seems to work fine. It comes out of sleep pretty well too. But, it seems that ovenight, the system shuts down on it's own.
I've looked at the logs and scheduler and it seems that the UpdateOrchestrator was set at 3:30 am so I changed that time to 6:30 PM and the system turned off overnight again.
So, I left it awake one night and it did not shut off. Tried again the next night and it turned off. I'm going to try to remove the schedule entirely but from what I've read over the last few weeks, it will create a new task again.
What UpdateOrchestrator really does despite all my googling and don't have this problem on any other PC so I'm wondering if it has to do with hardware. WhoCrashed does not report any crashes at all. Nor do the logs tell me anything.
