Magnifier Gives A Dark Theme Conversion

Oct 18, 2015

The Windows 10 Magnifier can give you a “dark” theme by converting light themes. The Windows 10 Magnifier has a color inversion mode that converts blinding white windows with black text into relaxing black windows with white text. It’s easy to set up, doesn’t require any downloads, and doesn’t require any risky Registry editing that might get overwritten by the next Windows 10 upgrade. Once you set it up, the Magnifier keyboard shortcuts will turn it on and off.

To set it up, go to ‘Start’ and open ‘Settings’, then select ‘Ease of Access’. Select ‘Magnifier’, and set the ‘Magnifier’, ‘Invert Colors’, and both tracking switches to ON. Set the ‘Start Magnifier Automatically’ switch to OFF. Then start the Magnifier, and set it to 100% & full-screen view. This gives you a color-inverted view, and, since most applications provide a white work area and black text, you’ll get a black work area with white text. Of course, wallpaper, JPEGs, and other colored objects will look a little strange, but you’ll get used to that in a hurry if you’re writing documents, using spreadsheets, or dealing with websites that are predominantly black text on white background. If the color inversion is getting in the way because you’re dealing with graphics, just turn it off by using a Magnifier shortcut (<Windows key> + <ESC>).

How To Bind Magnifier To A Mouse Button

Jan 13, 2016

I find myself zooming in and out of pages in chrome a lot and would like to start using the magnifier. I was just wondering if I could make it a whole lot easier based on how frequently I would be using it by being able to bind it to a single, extra mouse button. It would be quite handy if I could turn it on and off with a single button rather than a key combo shortcut, I don't want it on all the time and would most likely be turning it on and off very frequently.

On Lock Screen - Narrator And Magnifier AutoStart - Switched Off

Aug 12, 2015

My magnifier and narrator auto-start on the lock screen despite them both being switched off in the Ease of Use panel. The narrator turns off when the desktop loads and the magnifier stays on in the shape of the magnifying glass in the upper left area of the screen. It's not debilitating just annoying. How to fix it or maybe a regedit that can get rid of them completely?

Accounts :: Bypass Family Settings By Conversion To Local Account?

Feb 1, 2016

I just upgraded all my computers to Windows 10.

My 15 year old is clever enough to bypass the (new) Family settings controlled Microsoft Account I just set up for him by converting the account to a local account. This seems to let him play as long as he wants, without time restrictions. I didn't get an email about this, or any other notification. This is the second time he has done it.

Why is it so easy to completely bypass all the family safety settings it took me hours(!) to finally get set up?

Also the Family Recent Activity shown on my Microsoft Account web site doesn't seem to update itself. It is at least two or three days behind, perhaps more. How often does Recent Activity update? Is it supposed to be near instantaneous?

Dark Screen After Sleep

Aug 6, 2015

I just installed Windows 10 on my all-in-one HP Pavilion 23. Now after waking the computer from Sleep Mode, the screen appears very dark. The background, icons, etc. are there but are barely visible through the dark screen. After restarting the computer, everything returns to normal. The computer also wakes from Sleep Mode on its own.

On-Battery Screen Brightness Too Dark

Aug 22, 2015

after updating to Windows 10, I am not able to get the screen brightness to 100% anymore (it is shown to be 100%, but plugging my laptop in, screen brightness will increase to maximum brightness). Screen settings are as shown below.I also tried using the command line:/ This allows me to change the brightness, however 100% is still not really 100% when on battery.

Why Does Laptop Go Dark When Plug In The Charger

Sep 6, 2015

Just since my Win 10 upgrade, if I plug in the charger the screen goes black. Then I unplug, it comes back on! I have played with the power settings, not much to rave about there, except one thing I barely caught a glimpse of. In the Additional power settings, at the bottom is the brightness control. When I plug in the charger, the slider goes all the way to the right. Is that not backwards? Anyway, what will fix this so it can be posted somewhere (like here) so people like me can find it.

Apps :: Windows Photo Viewer Shows Images Too Dark After Monitor Calibration

Mar 5, 2016

The Windows Photo Viewer was perfect for me in Windows 7 so I got it working on Windows 10, too. The new Photos software that came with Windows 10 is useless to me because it doesn't zoom, at lease I can't figure out how as of yet. I just want to keep things simple with the Windows Photo Viewer.

All was OK until I calibrated my monitors & at about the same time there was a Windows update. After calibration the monitors looked much better. But when I opened the Windows Photo Viewer I noticed all photos looked extremely dark. All other photo viewing software shows the same photos normal. I just assumed it was the Windows update that caused this but it wasn't that.

Today I have figured it out that the problem is Windows Photo Viewer software is somehow clashing with my monitor color profile. If I remove the .icc profile, the photos look normal using Windows Photo Viewer. Once the monitor profile is returned, they go back to too dark. As I said, other photo viewing software is not affected by this profile, just Windows Photo Viewer.

I don't have a clue how to fix this other than returning to the default profile which would wreck my Photoshop business. It just seem odd that the color profile only effects the Windows Photo Viewer this way & not other programs.

Customization :: Theme Colors Have Taken Over Everything And Cannot Reset

Jan 21, 2016

I was checking out various themes. Most had quite hideous colors, and mainly dark ones. I wanted a neutral theme, but for fun I chose a purple and pink theme first. Well, everything is purple and pink, including web pages. The forum's pages are purple and pink. All of the games I play are purple and pink. Distinguishing game characters and such is nearly impossible. Nothing I do stops the theme from coloring the web pages. And the colors are always dark and overwhelming. No matter what theme I choose, the web pages are not the correct color. I am sick of color. I want a cream and brown theme, and only on my PC, not on anything on the internet.

Customization :: Theme Color Not Changing?

Jan 10, 2016

I am unable to change the theme color from an icky blue. I can change the desktop, I can enable and disable the color on the Start, taskbar, etc., I can make them transparent. I cannot change the color. If I attempt to click a different accent color, nothing happens. No color change on the preview. No color change anywhere. Just icky blue.

I've made sure that the Theme service is running and I've tried installing themes online. Nothing I'm doing is getting this color to change and it's really buggin' me out.

It could have to do with this being an Origin laptop. It was originally Windows 8 when I got it wherein, as an Origin PC, it had a default-installed Origin theme where the accent colors were red and black. I was able to change the desktop background while it was in '8, but I was unable to ever change the accent from red.

Now that I have Windows 10, I am not using the Origin-installed theme and my accent is not locked in red but is instead locked in blue..

I've not yet attempted a hard refresh of Windows 10, especially seeing as the refresh USB will simply install Win8 again with the Origin-brand-lock, so upgrading to '10 would only be extra time and stress for an issue that is going to happen in '8 and be brought forward again.

Is there a way to force the color scheme to change?

I am running Windows 10 Home on an Origin PC. 16GB RAM; CPU i7 @ 2.8Ghz; I am indeed the administrator.

Customization :: Setting Desktop With One Image From Theme?

Jan 28, 2016

With Windows 7 I had the ability to go into the Personalization settings and uncheck all of the images within a Microsoft Theme (such as "Waterfalls" or "Beaches") that I did not want to see. This gave me the ability to choose just one image from a theme to set as a permanent desktop background.

This menu was found by right-clicking on the particular theme I had chosen. In Windows 10 that menu is gone....

Therefore the themes just continue going from one image to the next and I have no control over which images I want, setting a timeframe for them to change (Used to have options such as 1 hour, 6 hours, 24 hours etc...), or the ability to customize the desktop background in the way I want.

Is this a Windows 10 design flaw or am I missing something? Why am I no longer able to customize a desktop background theme and choose 1 image anymore?

Changing Personalization / Background / Theme Settings

Aug 8, 2015

So yesterday I installed 10 on the laptop. It appears to work very well, even though it seems, and is, intrusive (privacy concerns) and for me a long learning curve to figure out how all the new 'apps' (old redesigned programs and UI) work.

Here's the problem:

I have read through this tutorial (plus many other posts and articles): [URL]

I want/need to change the timing of the background pictures/theme and the colors of the window from the stock (forced upon me) settings, but the display does NOT show the controls in the bottom of the personalization area as they are shown in that tutorial (They were there in W7 and Vista, and in the tutorial above made in March).

I have tried different resolutions (none smaller available, currently at 1366x768, native), and only two font/display/text sizes I could find of 100% and 125%: The needed controls still don't show up.

The laptop is an ASUS G50VT - 5. Stock except for a 500GB Hybrid drive.

Customization :: How Can Choose The Theme Pictures For Desktop Background

Mar 5, 2016

In W-7, I could go to the "Change the visuals and sounds on your computer" and click the "Desktop Background" Slide Show. once there, I could check or uncheck the pictures I wanted.

In W-10, when I click "Desktop Background", I get the "Background" "Preview" window. There's no handy access to the pictures in the selected screen.

The "Chose albums.....", DesktopBackground", Browse would probably get me to where the actual pictures are if I knew where they are.
It use to be very simple.
