The mail app doesn't seem to run in the background. If I turn on my computer and I have mail, it does not alert me. It also doesn't alert me if I am working on my computer and receive an email.

View 1 RepliesDoes mail run in the background? - Windows 10 default Mail app only run in background if the Calender app has been merged with it. I've merged the calender app and also set up my mail app, the the problem is that I don't receive any notification, when I receive new mails. So, I dig deep and find out that "Mail" app is not showing in the "Background Apps" list.
I've also tried to enable every kind of notification from Mail app, so that I receive the notification when new mail arrives. This is really important to me. Otherwise I miss my important emails. My Mail apps keep running on background and I get the notification for my new emails,
I am running Outlook 2016 under Win 10. Under all previous versions of Outlook I have be enable to increase the time a new email alert stays on the screen by editing the registry like this.

I have set the value of that DWORD to 360000 in an attempt get the alert to stay on an hour. The alerts stay on only about 3 or 4 seconds.How can I make the alerts stay on longer?
How to get the new win10 mail app to access my contacts or how to add an address book to the email client. I'm get mail through a pop3 optus server not gmail etc.
If I begin typing a name or email address in a new email the only addresses/ names that are there [autofill] are ones who I have received mail from, my contacts aren't there. [added csv file to contacts I exported from live mail before upgrading from win8.1] where are the contacts from received emails stored?, can I add my contacts there?
I notice that recieved email contacts aren't stored in my contacts app contacts folder. I would like to just use the win10 mail app than install something else.
I'm running Wn10 and I would like to change some sounds. I'm running a background theme. I have downloaded a Wav file (thefreesite.com), added this file in a sound scheme (mail notification), tested it, saved it as modified scheme, but the sound doesn't play at all (when mail arrives). Is it perhaps not possible to play downloaded Wav files in a sound scheme ?
View 9 RepliesI was having the common problem updating to KB3122947, where it would simply fail to install. As far as I know, there were a few ways to resolve this, and I found the top answer here worked. Ever since, I've not been getting Mail notifications in the action centre, besides the fact that no settings have changed and I've checked both in the Windows settings and in Mail settings that they are enabled to notify.
View 1 RepliesHave upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Set a desktop background as part of initial setup. Picked a photo of my daughter and used the fill option to display the image correctly on the screen. Every day, the background image gets set to a stretched version of the image(that doesnt actually exist anywhere) and I have to reset to the correct image file and set back to fill.
View 7 RepliesJust installed Windows 10 on my primary laptop and the lock screen is a solid blue (if I change my theme color, the lock screen changes too). However, I have Windows Spotlight turned on. I've tried setting a static picture or slideshow as the background. I also confirmed that the files needed for Windows Spotlight are indeed downloaded onto my computer. It just refuses to change.It's worth noting that on my secondary computer with Windows Insider builds, I have, and have been having, the same problem.

When I press the INSTALL NOW button, the spinning circle appears and says in motion without starting the install.
I have minimized the window and also checked the task bar. Still the install does not take place.
I have this week completed building my new Pc and I have received a message in settings you need to activate windows 10 which was a free download in July 2015 as I was upgrading from windows 7,however the product code I have does not work and Microsoft said I will have to buy a new key is this correct.

I never line the new mail app ,just because it new maybe and not use to it, I will use outlook.com instead for Microsoft mail..
View 9 RepliesI need to reinstall Windows 10 on a duel booting computer, on separate drives and whilst I can transfer most of the personal data off the Win 10 drive to a new temp folder on the other drive and then back later to a newly installed clean version of Win 10 on the original drive, I cannot ascertain the various email data files (all of them). I have 4 separate email accounts in "live mail".
View 3 RepliesI have been using Windows Live Mail for years and have 3 email accounts synced in it. After some recent changes to my PC, the program is suddenly very slow to change between email folders. What I mean specifically is if I click on one inbox, and then click on my deleted folder, there is literally a 5 second delay before the view is switched to the new folder. This has never happened before, it normally take mere milliseconds to change between my email folders. Switching between any folders at all, even if they are empty, takes 5 seconds!!
As for the changes made to my pc, I recently was screwing around with my drive partitions and made a really stupid mistake. I accidentally created a new volume which took up my whole secondary HDD (not my OS drive, but where my emails are stored). Some quick google searching got me a free software that recovered my partitions and after a quick reboot my PC appeared to be working fine again. Except for Windows Live Mail... which when I opened had lost all my email accounts. I re-added them, and for some reason they started to download all my emails from the internet and wouldn't recognize the mail folders where all my emails are stored on my secondary hard drive.
It took over an hour to download all the emails again, which were stored in the default location on my OS drive. I normally keep them on a secondary HDD to save space on my OS SSD, so I was forced to delete all the emails on my secondary HDD where I normally keep them and then direct Windows Live Mail to move all the emails it had just downloaded to the location I just deleted my emails from.
So at the end of the day I made a really dumb mistake, fixed it, and then had to do this weird workaround solution to get my email storage working the way I am used to. All this screwing around now when I use my email it is super slow to switch between folders...
I have already tried doing a full defrag of the drive where my email is stored, as well as a repair of windows live essentials from the control panel. I have heard that addons can cause problems like this in WLM but until today I didn't even know WLM had addons. What I can do before I try reinstalling Windows Live Mail. If I do that I will have to re-download all my emails again...
I've already been to the Custom Default Programs settings, Yahoo! Mail is not listed. I want to be able to use a program not related to a browser, with an E-mail link, and it automatically send me to a browser with my E-mail so I can start composing the message.
How can I do this on Windows 10?
The Mail app is no longer syncing my email automatically. I have to open the app and click the sync button manually for email to update.
I see the app no longer runs in the background as it did when I first upgraded to Windows 10.
And if not, is there an alternative mail client that you recommend that will run in the background and sync emails?
This might be a really stupid question but i CANNOT find the setting to combine all my email accounts on the Windows 10 email app and it's really frustrating me, i searched all over google and can't find anything I just dont see the option anywhere.

The search contact only works If I have sent someone a mail only from the Windows 10 mail app otherwise it doesn't show the contact which I might have save or synced when I have used it on web and also on windows 8.1 mail app. Why my contacts can't be displayed when I type on Windows 10 mail app.

Now, under W10 HOME (1511 build) seeing occasional video crash/restore alerts and occasional momentary black screen.
Intel 4000 video has been updated to latest driver. No change. No virus; clean machine. 20Gb C: drive space left.
I have an Outlook account, of course, but I don't use it. Instead I use my Yahoo email, but for some reason the new app won't let me add it. Instead it only wants my Outlook email. Is there and way to add a Yahoo email?

The windows 10 Mail tile on Start Up when first upgraded open fine and it found my account and synced . A few days later , clicking on it, it moves but doesn't open? How do I open it? Or reset it?
View 1 Replieschanging the stark white background color of the Chrome tab bar? I'm not sure if it's a Windows function or a Chrome function but in Windows 7 I believe it was Windows.
I'm so used to it being either transparent or at the very least borrowing from my current background color as it did in Windows 7 but there seems no way to change it in Windows 10.
If I'm not mistaken, such a change wouldn't/shouldn't require a separate Chrome theme but is rather a simple setting that I'm just unable to find.
I just switched to the new mail app mostly because i want calendar, contacts and email shared across multiple computers and devices. Calendar and contacts seems to be shared fine but I have a cableone.net email and a gmail account. My new mail downloads fine but older mail and none of my folders in outside accounts show up. I have played with the sync settings...started at one week and moved out from there but old mail and folders do not download.
View 2 RepliesI have a client that brought me his "self upgraded" computer.
Symptom: IE doesn't work, can't download chrome.
I start off by resetting IE settings to defaults which typically solves a lot of IE problems. Didn't here. I then uninstalled IE through the add/remove components in 10, didn't work. I did notice with IE uninstalled that magically Edge allowed me to download chrome, which I couldn't when IE was installed, even through Edge. Chrome seems to use some app downloader which must use "IE settings" and since IE was installed it wouldn't download.
So I downloaded chrome when IE was uninstalled and Chrome now works fine even after reinstalling IE. There is no proxy, no host file changes, no nothing. IE simply says it can't open any and all pages I go to. Edge pops right up! Network troubleshooter finds nothing wrong, no static IPs or other info is supplied. I'm baffled.
IE still does not work. All other browsers do. I ran several batch files I keep on a thumb drive to reset winsock and other things that I've used in extreme cases. I have scanned the PC with several tools and removed a few common small pup style things. Nothing fancy.
The user uses this PC for Quickbooks and Quickbooks requires IE. IE doesn't work so Quickbooks doesn't work.
