View 1 RepliesWindows 10 download has been trying to update and failed at least 25 times, same error 80240020.

I got the little 'Get Windows 10' icon and reserved my copy, all fine. But it still doesn't actually say it can install, not sure why. But my laptop has now tried to install W10 5 times, without telling me it was going to or asking my permission. And all five times it has failed with error code 80240020. This is not my area of expertise and I don't know why it keeps doing this. I'm not even sure I want to install it; I only reserved it to see what everyone else thought and I figured I'd have some kind of say in the matter. Basically, is it supposed to do this? And what can I do to fix it, either by stopping it trying or installing it properly?

I have been trying to download windows 10 on my laptop (windows 7). It does the download and looks like it is all downloading fine and it starts rebooting and then it goes to a blank blue screen and doesn't go off the screen. I have to turn my laptop off just to do something on it, it then restores my old version of windows and doesn't download windows 10.
I then check the update and it says "failed" with the error details "code 8007002C"
Whenever I try to install a new version of some software I get the following message: "movefile failed code 183".

A friend of mine is trying to upgrade his PC using ISO but he keeps getting an error that keeps restoring his PC back to Win8.1. His words "it finishes the install, gets to the copying files stage., then after a while it starts restoring my windows 8.1 back." He sent me a screenshot of the error but for reasons I don't know, Tapa Talk isn't allowing me to send the image. The error code on the screenshot is 0x8007000E-0x2000C with the message "The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during APPLY_IMAGE operation."

View 6 RepliesI have set group policy to notify for update and notify for download, so when I manually check for updates, it shows any that are available, however when there are multiple updates available, there is no option to download/install an individual one, it just downloads / installs all of them?
Is there a way around this, as there is no point of the manual setting if it downloads /installs all of them at once anyway?

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 running Windows 7 Home. I decided to update to Windows 10. Download was successful, it attempted to install the update I guess, was on the settings part. It got stuck though on a blank screen with just a cursor for two hours so I turned off my laptop. Then it restored Windows 7, and now it's redownloading the Windows 10 update again. Thing is, I got an issue with my laptop. Whenever it boots up, I get an error message about the fan not working properly and I have to hit enter for it to continue with the restart otherwise it will power off. Could that have affected the update to Windows 10?

No luck in installing Win 10 Home to their HP Stream 8? When I forced an upgrade I got Error 80240020 when installing. Using iso was a no go also. Maybe because it has a compressed OS? I have enough free space on drive c.

I was invited to download/install Windows 10 and I followed all the steps to download the files. Then I clicked to install it and it seemed to be doing it. Windows closed down and the computer restarted, but when it opened again it was still Windows 7 and there was a box up relating to Windows upgrades that that said the 'latest upgrade' had failed, and there was a button to click to download Windows 10 if I wanted to (again?!).
I don't know where all the files are that were downloaded and what I should do. I saw a suggestion somewhere that firewall/antivirus software can be a problem. I have Bitdefender, that doesn't allow you to disable it.. I suppose I could remove it completely before trying again? But otherwise what should I do? I don't want to download a lot of duplicate files again.
