MediaCreationToolx64 Will Not Open
Jul 29, 2015
I have downloaded the MediaCreationToolx64 several times using both Firefox and IE. Have both Run and Save. File saves fine but when I double click on it nothing happens. I am running Win 8.1 on an HP Pavilion 15 laptop and the system checker states I am ready for Windows 10. Why the MediaCreationTool will not start?
I do have a reservation and a C:$Windows.~BT file (6.43 GB), but cannot install because it does not have boot.wim file yet ...

Quite often (60% of the time) clicking on Windows Explorer results in no action whether from the tool bar or from the Windows screen for a very long period of time. There is nothing showing to determine if there is a background program causing Explorer to wait. When it eventually opens, more than one screen comes up because the impatient among us have clicked more than once (personal problem). I often start by going to Explorer for a file I was working on so this is a real pain.

When I restart my computer I have a message that I have an app open. But I never saw this one until I installed W10. It says it is Faceaway Countdown dlg.I looked on the app list from the computer and it is not there. I searched google and did not see it.Is this a part of MSFT or google because I use their browser ? Or is it phishing ?

I've had Windows 10 for about a month now. Everything has been going well. Then this AM I tried to open a folder on my desktop but it will not open. I right click on it to only go back to my home screen.I cant even get into my documents.
No folders what so ever. I clicked on properties to check the securities and all is well there.

Certain .exe files (seemingly ones that don't require an install to run) on my laptop refuse to open, responding to different commands in different ways.
When I first run them, I get a SmartScreen Filter alert. After pressing 'Run Anyway' (scans reveal them to be safe), they will appear to begin to load, but never actually open. This happens every time I try to open them subsequently, although without the SmartScreen alert. I can close the container folder and try again.
If I try to Run as Administrator, however, the folder freezes entirely. I can use other folders, but it takes a File Explorer restart to make the crashed instance disappear. I have tried deleting one of these applications after attempting to open it, and not been allowed to until a full restart, implying they are running constantly after I attempt to start them.
I had assumed this was a problem with SmartScreen, but even after turning it off, the problem persists.
Most other .exe files do work (regedit, games downloaded from Steam, etc.), so I can't understand what's making this small set of files unable to load.

So I did the Windows 10 upgrade (WOOHOO!) Everything went smoothly during the install. As I was checking out the start menu I clicked on the little Settings cog in the lower left. All that happens when I do this is a super quick flash of what I assume is the settings window. Its there and then its gone. I also tried right clicking on my name and picture and the top and hitting change account settings. Same thing happens.
Maybe related: Many of my programs wont set as default, such as chrome and a few games want me to allow permissions EVERY time I open them.

My problem is that a number of my apps are greyed out, (14 at last count) and therefore return the "this app can't open" message. In trying to chase this down, I believe I've read that the problem is related to auto updates, and the lack of required licenses? I would probably rather revert to W7, but it's a number of months now since 10 was installed, so I believe that option is no longer available to me.

This is another by-product of the start menu problem. Once finished with major issues I tried to open my pictures. The pictures are not in windows Photo Gallery but directly on my C drive ie: C:/users/ottilitgirl/Pat's Pictures/Christmas 2014. The pictures do not open and I get this message "This action only valid for products that are currently installed".I just tried again. Today I get the thumbnails but when I try to open them the message is "invalid value for registry"

I have 2 computers; e.g. one laptop and one desktop both at Windows 10. Same Microsoft ID, etc. Yesterday, Calendar worked fine. Today, the Mail Icon comes up and just sits there. Can't get any prompts, menus, data, nothing. Desktop works find. People works on both machines. Store on laptop showed Calendar pending. I was able to clear that and now shows installed. But still won't load. Tried the PowerShell fix to no avail. Stopped Windows UPdate service, renamed WindowsSoftwareDistribution folder. Restarted Windows Update service. Still no go!
Understand you can't uninstall/re-install Calendar, People, Mail etc. The working Calendar is pulling from my Google ID, but can't find that Calendar on line.

How do I open .tgz files on Windows 10?
I'm using 8zip app to extract the files, but I still can't open them to pdf. Do I need to convert the files?
I wish opening .tgz files is built into win10 like in OSX.

I recently updated my windows 10 pc. Now when i try to open any app it just crashed right away doesn't matter if its a windows app or not. I tried doing a system restore and that didn't work. It wont even let me reset my computer it just says something went wrong. It runs fine in safe mode so it has to be something running. I have tried end process for everything and its still not working.

In windows 10, when i left click the start menu (the little 4 boxes on bottom left) search bar, anything on the right side like time and date/sound/ network, etc nothing opens up at all.
EDIT: IF I SWITCH MY SEARCH BAR TO A ICON AND LEFT CLICK IT AND PUT IT BACK TO NORMAL MY SEARCH BAR WORKS BUT NOTHING ELSE. AND I HAVE TRIED THIS COMMAND TO FIX IT BUT IT DID NOT WORK Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml"} INSTEAD IT MADE MY WINDOWS STORE HAVE NO ICON AND IT CRASHES WHEN I OPEN IT AND FOR SOME REASON THE NAME OF THE WINDOWS STORE IS SOME WEIRD CODING STARTING WITH
sfc /scannow found nothing and i cant right click any programs like firefox, if i rightclicked it in the toolbar nothing pops up.

Not sure where to post this, but none of the menu options open. The New Notification panel on the bottom right hand side doesn't open, and neither does the start menu in the bottom left hand side.
I am on an acer aspire laptop, and the brightness setting doesn't adjust anymore either.
I'm playing with the other icons in the bottom left hand corner, and none of them open up or do anything. Wireless icon, sound icon, one drive icon, or the notification icon. Searching the web and windows/Cortana does not do anything either. It doesn't even allow me to type anything.
I have tried restarting (which had to be done through the windows key + x shortcut) and shutting down/waiting/starting up again and neither have worked.

I can't open the Windows 10 Store on my relatively recent upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. It did originally work, but the start menu currently looks like this (tooltip when hovering): I've followed the PowerShell advice at URL....but this didn't work with errors like:
Code:
Add-AppxPackage : Cannot find path 'C:ProgramFilesWindowsAppsMicrosoft.WindowsStore_2015.1013.14.0_neutral_~_8wekyb3d8bbwe
AppxMetadataAppxBundleManifest.xml'because it does not exist.At H:Downloads
