View 1 RepliesI have opened the Paint program add least 100 times in the past two days. It has never been added to the Most Used area of the Start Menu. What do I need to do to get Paint to show in Most Used on the Start Menu?
View 1 RepliesI'm not sure of the name of this, but when you right click on a program's 'listing' in the taskbar ('Chrome', or a 'This PC' of Explorer) you get a menu (Close window, pin to taskbar etc) - on W7 this was near instant. On W10 on the same machine it takes maybe a second to appear.
View 4 RepliesI'm used to tweaking the values in HKCUControlPanelDesktopWindowsMetricsIcon Spacing in previous version of Windows, but it appears to work a bit differently in Win10.
Changing the Icon Spacing from the default of -1560 to, say -2000, gives more room for the icon title to spread out, but doesn't actually move the icons. e.g. I have some icons with long titles wrapped on two lines. By increasing the value to -2000 the titles now sit on a long single line, but the icons haven't moved. In fact, the icon titles now will overlap if I have two long-titled icons next to each other.
{Edited to add:]
Oh, for heavens sake! I had done several Icon Spacing tweaks in the registry and rebooted several times but nothing changed except the titles expanding wider. Then, I decide to move some icons around. Poof! The entire desktop grid adjusted the icon spacing, and rearranged the icons! Go figure.
My Windows 10 system tray looks like [URL] .. for both large or small taskbar icons. The spacing between systray icons are larger than in previous versions of Windows.
Nearly everyone's screenshots of W10 have systrays that are more like [URL] .
How do I go about changing this? I normally use a vertical taskbar and this [URL] .
My DPI's at 100%, and the presence of Cortana and the Task View button don't seem to matter.
I recently upgraded my win 8.1 pro to win 10 and I have an annoyance.
When I have many (read about 15) Firefox windows (NOT TABS) open they stack vertically (from taskbar). Like this picture is showing (only shows 3 of the windows.):
What I'm trying to do here is remove or lower the spacing between each window. To make the list tighter.
I've found the same true for multiple open folders/drives (explorer windows). It's how things are sorted when they can no longer be thumbnails.
I have a second hdd installed on my desktop that has all my documents etc.My C drive is for the O/S only.
My problem is when I select the search on the taskbar it only searches the C drive how will I set it to search the other internal drive??.Windows 10.
When I add a item to the start list it only appears in the panel list and not in the column list where I want it.
View 9 RepliesEver since installing windows 10, any selections that I make (like selecting text or files in explorer, etc..) can barely be seen. This is especially frustrating when making selections because the currently selected item(s) look like they are not selected just like all the rest.
Is there any way to make the current selection stand out like it did back in Windows 7?
I have already tried changing hue, contrast, gamma, etc in the Nvidia control panel and I have the latest graphics drivers.
How Change Taskbar Item Size? Such as photo...
View 3 RepliesSince upgrading to Win10 a couple of days ago all the active programs on the task bar would not restore/maximize.
When I click on an open program icon on the task-bar, the icon reacts as if the selected program was maximizing but my screen does not change and stays stuck on the previous opened window. Alt+Tab doesn't work either.
I thought it could be related to my GPU and reinstalled it but it did not fix the issue.
I have an empty folder on my computer that I wan't to delete but when I click it it says "Item Not Found" and it tell me I can't delete it.

View 1 RepliesI just got my new PC with Windows 10 and I have 2 problems.
Firstly any item I click on is not highlighted with a color and it hard to tell what is selected.
Secondly whenever I restart my PC after logging in there is a black screen that appears after a few seconds and then disappears.
It goes away but it's a bit worrying and I don't know what's causing it.
If I delete or move items in win 10 they stay visible in the folder until I refresh.
It was a minor issue to start with but it is now interfering with fast operation of using the OS. If you see stuff in a folder then you presume it is there! Trying to delete things that do not exist is becoming a recurring theme now.
Cannot move, copy or delete folders in widows 10 file explorer. I get the message "cannot find item This is no longer located in F:video. Verify the item's location and try again." Does not matter which drive or which folder, this is always the result. I can however click on the folder, open it and move, copy or delete the files inside the folder. I am then stuck with empty folders all over my computer.
I have been using Windows 10 for a number of months without this issue, just stared happening this morning.
I just trashed my old computer and built a new one (moved from Windows 7 to Windows 10). I had quite a few files I wanted to keep, so I stored them all on an external hard drive. I can play the video files in question from the external hard drive, but when I try to copy the files to my internal drive (so that I can store my external safely) the transfer rate quickly drops to zero and then after a few seconds a pop up tells me that the file cannot be found. I know this to not be true since I can still play the files.
View 1 RepliesI'm running Windows 10 on a desktop (64bit). For some reason some of the keyboard buttons are displaying the wrong item when holding down the shift button.

There are other buttons doing exactly the same.
Whats up with the missing text labels? Sometimes its my start menu sometimes its the right click menu.
View 7 RepliesAfter a recent update I'm locked in to the Task Bar menu and cannot access the windows 10 live icon menu. Can't access the apps and Cortana doesn't work. I've tried to change the page by clicking on the windows Icon at the top of the task bar and using the windows button on my key board. Am I missing something?
View 6 RepliesAny command that can be pasted into a shortcut; That opens the power menu or user menu? I.e where you sign out or lock your computer.
The shortcut is meant to be on the desktop.
Some screenshots showing what menus I'm referring to.
I have just upgraded to Win10 and most items on the "Power User Command Menu" do not work if the menu is accessed by right-clicking the Start Menu button on the Task Bar. The only items that do work are Search, Run, Shut down and Desktop. If the menu is accessed by the other means, the menu items work fine.
I've tried SFC and a day searching the web with no luck.
The computer is a Toshiba laptop running an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5500 with 4 Gb of memory. I don't know what the proper name for the "Power User Command Menu" may be, but that's the only way I've seen it referenced elsewhere.
A couple of issues with W10 start menu ( - not sure if they're symptoms of the same thing. This is GA x64 W10 with all current updates installed
1) Pin to start menu doesn't pin anything to the start menu. I wanted to pin File History - R click in control panel, select Pin to Start - doesn't pin. Tested on another machine and it works there.
2) R click the Start button for the Power User menu - all I see is Network Connections - same result with Win X. Again, works as expected on another install.
how to save me doing a re-install?
Edit - SFC reports no violations.
Edit - switched to a local account on the machine and PU menu is there and working - so is this a permissions thing? My original account is admin.
I've got two standard profiles and one administrator profile on my lap top.
Win+X works for the standard profiles , but not for the administrator profile. How come?
I have checked that the winx files are where they should be in (<administrator>/appdata/local/Microsoft/Windows/winx)
Could they be corrupted? Could I just copy the files from one of the standard profiles that works, to my administrator profile? Would that solve it?
