Missing C Drive From Defragment List
Aug 20, 2015
I have recently upgrade to Windows 10. It's quite good so far however there is something missing I noticed. When I enter Disk Defragmenter (Known as Optimise Drive in Windows 10), I noticed the lack of my Local Disk C from the list. Previous versions of Windows such as 7, 8 and 8.1 had it. How to solve it or is this Windows 10 "feature"?

I wanted to get more space in my c drive and used mini tool to move 100 gbs from my d drive to the c drive (local drive). Then i tried defragmenting my c drive but the results were the same every time. I defragmented the c drive 30 times with different software and stuff but the results didnt change.

When I click one of the shortcuts in the start menu, I am informed that windows cannot find the specified location.
When I try to navigate to the location, windows wont let me select it. Windows is looking for a file to navigate to when I get that prompt but, I need to specify a folder to get the shortcut I want. I tried to use a shortcut as well but, when I select, it opens the file location and cant be used as a specified file from what I can tell.

So here is my issue I had Windows 10 installed on my Asus which I had Upgraded from Windows 8. However lately my computer was running slow and unresponsive at times. I figured I would do a Factory Reset and start new on it to try and fix these issues I was having. However when I while in the process of Reseting my Laptop the reset had failed. Now when I turn my laptop on it just sits at the black screen with the Asus Logo. I have tried many solutions to this such as hitting delete prompt and resetting my start up settings.

When I updated my computer from windows 7 to windows 10, all of a sudden I don't seem to have a CD/DVD drive anymore. It shows up in the BIOS but not on the actual computer. I have tried to make sure the computers all plugged in correctly and it is. So what can I do to resolve this issue, and if there are so many problems with windows 10 why on earth allow have of the entire population download, especially when MICROSOFT should have thought of all the bugs and fixed them ahead of time. Its not fair to offer free upgrades, when its essentially a downgrade?

So, one day i was just thinking of doing a clean install of Windows from a bootable USB drive and after i got everything set up, clean installation done and ready to go i noticed that.. Windows only created one drive, and that's my lonely C: drive with the space of my old C: drive and D: drive together. So practically, it blended those two drives together, since im pretty sure i did everything correct on the clean installation but this is the result. Is there any ways to fix this situation WITHOUT going back to a restore point or without another clean installation of Windows from a bootable usb drive?
I have tried installing the Windows again from the settings of the Windows but it did not work and the problem still persists. Also, while i was doing the new install of the Windows, it threw me an error of the drive being GBT (or something along the lines) so i had to run cmd in the installer and clean disk 0 to make it work. and By doing that, it didnt show those 7-8 drives i had on the list in the installer but it actually deleted all of those 8 and left 1 standing so i clicked ''new'' and it made only one more that was called ''system memory'' or something along those lines.
My Computer is an Asus notebook x551ca.

There was a folder titled Windows.000 that was created after my previous upgrade to windows 10. This folder had all of my data on it and now it has completely disappeared. It feels like somebody has physically come into my home and gutted my hard drive. My C: properties say 1.9GB Free out of 2... WTF??

Updated from win 7 64 bit to win 10 home edition around a month ago. Yesterday AM while editing pictures in photoshop lightroom my wireless mouse and keyboard quit responding. I have all pictures and editing software on my internal D drive (2terabyte) and my C drive is a 128gb solid state. Aftr pulling out and reinserting my wireless mouse and keyboard plug in on the tower and trying the control alt delete command which did nothing I turned off power at the tower. Upon reboot ( left for work because it was taking too long ) and upon return it was behaving ok until I realized my D drive was not reading in my hierarchy. Rebooted normally which took over an hour. Shut it down and unplugged it for an hour. Restarted same results no D drive. rebooted agn ((20 min or so boot time) this time in safe mode and still no D drive.

I have a 240gb SSD with Windows 10 installed. After selecting all the programs to determine the amount of space it should take I only saw 82gb yet I only have 44gb of free space left. At first it was only missing about 20gb of space which I thought would be a system restore point however now I'm actually running out of storage. What is taking up my hard drive space or how to determine it?

I used TrueImage 15 to clone and shrink my win10 load to a new SSD. Original drive was a 1tb with 120g used in a 900g partition. I had TI clone and shrink that to the 240g SSD. However, the bootmgr was left behind.
I used EasyBCD 2.2 to put the bootmgr back but now it seems to be still missing a few secret win10 parts and asking for startup repair.. Can I use the downloaded win10p64 cd?

I just upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1. I can see all my files must still be on my harddrive as my harddrive hasn't gained any extra space. However, when I go to the C:drive Windows.old I cannot locate my old files. I had a massive collection of music and video and want them all back. Am I missing something or looking in the wrong place? Inside Windows.old I have the following files Perflogs, Program Files, Program files (x86), Recovery, Users, WINDOWS. There is a file NTUSER.DAT.gu in the Windows.old-Users-Guest could all my files be in there?

My laptop suddenly crashed and now it says "Boot media missing" when I restarted. After that, it always takes me to "Preparing Automatic Repair" and then the 'Troubleshoot' menu.
In the 'Troubleshoot' menu, it has two options: 'Reset this PC' and 'Advanced options'.
When I choose "Reset this PC", it asks me whether to keep my files or remove everything. I've tried both and it displays an error. When I choose to keep my files, it says that drive is locked and tells me to unlock the drive and try again. When I choose to remove everything, it says that there is a problem resetting the PC.
And then I've moved to "Advanced options". The options are: System Restore, System Image Recovery, Startup Repair, Command Prompt, UEFI Firmware Settings, and Go back to previous build. I've tried all of these and it all returned an error. When I chose UEFI Settings, it restarted to BIOS/UEFI setting. And my BIOS/UEFI can't detect my hard drive. DISKPART from Command Prompt can't detect it either.
My project is due in 3 days and I've got all my files in there. Is there a way to fix this? Or to recover my files?

When I try to boot from a recovery flash drive, it fails with: EFIMicrosoftBootBCD error status: 0xc000000f and message: The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors.
The recovery flash drive was created on a Lenovo ideapad originally with Windows 8, now upgraded to Windows 10, latest upgrades applied. Checked the box for copying system files. Target drive was a 16GB DataTraveler flash drive formatted as FAT32. Creation ran to completion with no errors. When booting normally, Windows 10 runs fine with no issues. I tried re-creating the recovery drive with the same results.
I created a repair disk and tried to use bootrec to fix the issue, but I suspect it did nothing or fixed the c: drive. I ran boot rec while in the root directory on the flash drive.

I'm not sure when this started happening. Might have been after a Windows update and the system reboot. I've been living with it for a couple weeks now.
When I click All apps in the start menu, the list is empty. The apps in the most used list are still populated and when I install a new app, it shows up as a new app. But when I click All apps, it never shows anything. Just an empty menu with a back button.
The apps in the tile portion of the start menu show up fine and I'm able to search for apps to launch them, but I'd like to be able to easily go through all the apps I have installed.

OK. I know how to "go to file location" and some of the other basic tips, but I am still having two issues with the Windows 10 start menu after several hours of searching reading and pulling hair out.
1) A few of my apps (programs I installed, not apps from the store) were originally in folders with no other shortcuts in them, so I decided to remove those folders and put the shortcut at the top level. This leaves me with a Mozilla Firefox shortcut which I want to rename to just "Firefox". I can rename it, but no matter what, it just stats under M in the all apps list. I also have 2 other apps with this problem, but I listed Firefox as an example.
2) When I open the start menu (before entering All Apps), I wonder if there is a way to replace "File Explorer" with "My PC" or some other label. I have already changed the behavior of this button to open the "My Computer" screen I am used to. I just want to change the label if possible.
