View 1 RepliesI am looking for a text editor which will allow me to take multiple lines from one text file (I also have the information in a spreadsheet) and will then replace then lines in another line of that document.
I am trying to make a list for my books and comics.
<Book Series="{name}" Number="{no.}" Volume="{year}" </Book>
<Book Series="{name}" Number="{no.}" Volume="{year}" </Book>
For the comics it would need to replace the above format so;
<Book Series="{Batman}" Number="{01}" Volume="{2011}" </Book>
I have had this issue for a while, any way to restore these. The Cortana Live Tile and Cortana entry in the All Apps section are both missing so I cannot re-add the Live Tile back.
View 3 Repliesmy start menu. Originally, at the bottom there was a search bar. Then I installed Start10, made some changes, and then decided to uninstall the program and go back to the default start menu. The uninstallation required a restart, which I did, however now the start menu bottom search bar is gone. I tried going through the start menu settings but no luck. So I tried reinstalling Start 10, but it says that the computer must restart to finish the earlier uninstallation before a new install can begin. I have tried turning the laptop completely off multiple times but get the same result.
View 1 RepliesSome desktop apps are missing from the "All apps" section of the Start menu. Most programs are there, but I'd say 10-15% are missing. Apps that are missing also do not show up when searching the Start menu, and they cannot be pinned to the Start screen as tiles from File Explorer. (The option to "Pin to Start" is there, but selecting it doesn't do anything.)
I have a screenshot here of Outlook 2013 missing from the Start menu even though it is present in the "Start Menu" programs shortcut folder. This is one of many examples.
I've tried resetting the Windows Search index a few times and that hasn't done any good.
Additionally, I've tried adding my own shortcuts and folders to the "Start Menu" programs folder and the changes do not reflect on the Start menu "All apps" section. It's as if it has cached the structure somewhere and it is not updating for changes (or it is ignoring some changes). I tried to figure out some way to kick it into resetting but I have not been successful.
I have windows 10, but i have some problems, i think i will need to replace old HDD with new one, but i don't know if i will be still able to install windows 10. I don't know how Microsoft will know this is still my PC.
View 9 RepliesI can not install programs or do Windows 10 updates because the Windows 10 Installer is damage. When attempting to install a program or do Windows 10 updates, the installer stops and the progress bar shows no progression of installation. I have the computer during the installation process and come back to the computer an hour later and the progress bar shows no indication of progress of installation. What I can do to try to fix the Windows installer?
View 1 Repliesmy hard drive was going bad so decided to replace, but before i did i upgraded the old drive to win 10 thinking i could just use a old win 7 DVD to install win to download and upgrade back to win 10 on the new drive using the media creation tool for win upgrade this PC option, but it's still asks for a activation key tried using the original activation key from the laptop then tried using the activation key from the win 7 install disk i used neither worked

I recently upgraded my PC to windows 10, and change my theme (windows color and desktop background image) to a new one. But after a while, it auto change back to the theme on Windows 8.1. What I want is use the new theme for all of my devices.
View 6 RepliesAlso does it re-store my existing music files on my computer, thereby taking up more space.
View 2 RepliesCan the "Replace or Skip Files Confirmation" window be changed to the way it was in Windows 7? The one on windows 10 is inconvenient and even at times confusing (Like when backing up text files from my hard drive to a flash drive into a fold of the same name)
View 5 RepliesI upgraded my Bootcamp version of Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 on my MacBook Air. The screen is cracked on my MacBook Air so I am trying to move Bootcamp to a new MacBook Pro. When I run Sysprep I am getting an error message that says Sysprep cannot run on an upgraded version of Windows.
My question is: If I purchase new Windows 10 Pro operating system, can I replace the upgraded Windows 10 product key with the new key and will it change the upgrade to a new installation of Windows 10. If it will do this, I can then run Sysprep and move Bootcamp to my new MacBook Pro.
I'm getting an alert saying that I need to repair or replace my hard disk and back up my laptop. I've already backed it up. My computer has been having some issues. I thouoght it was something I could fix myself. I had gotten a kernal_data_inpage_error a few time and I thought chkdsk had repaired it then I started to get the hard disk error. Sometimes my computer works fine and sometimes it's practically useless it goes so slow. Since I started getting the hard disk issue my computer has been running smoothly. Smoother then it usually does. What's up with that? I need this for work. Will it hurt anything if I keep using it as long as it's still running and then when it finally does just replace the hard drive? I was thinking about replacing the hard drive anyways to have more space on my computer. Also, could the warning be a false alarm and I might could fix it myself? My laptop is made very weird and the whole stinking paptop has to disassembled to swap out the hard drive unlike my old laptop where you can just unscrew the bottom and bam everything is.

View 5 RepliesWhen I built my desktop I plugged a wd green 1tb hard drive so I can copy all of the data from it to my 2 tb green wd
Now I want to unplug that 1tb green hard drive and replace it with a new one? Will that cause system slow? Because windows may thing the drive is still there? No need to clean install again?
Most of my pinned task bar icons that I have added are all simplified tiles with the first letter of the corresponding website.
ie: Gmail is " G", American Airlines is " A", Flyertalk is " F". Google is " G" (causing confusion with Gmail.), etc.
Is there any way to change these tiled icons to the website logo like in windows 8.1 or 7?
When I open up the start menu it shows "We are getting search ready" forever. Worked until when I started my computer up today. I have attached a screenshot of this.
View 4 RepliesWin 10 Enterprise. Worked fine for a couple of days, but now I cannot seem to bring up the start menu and start typing anything. It will not search. I also tried in the search box or spyglass... I just click on it and nothing happens. It is a major inconvenience. I don't want to do a restore and keep my files, because there is a HUGE list of applications I will then need to restore. I also tried to click on Cortana, but clicking the app does nothing, doesn't even bring it up.
I tried re-indexing search items, I tried the search troubleshooter. I have rebooted, I have installed all updates. Someone on another forum said kill the Cortana task... well there isn't one running.
When I pin the Crome exe to start menu all is well, but if I change the size to small it will lose the icon and tile is faded?
View 6 RepliesIs it possible to create a live tile and if so how do you do it.
It would be very useful to me for going to various Forums for which I contribute.
I have 5 email addresses. When I click on Accounts in the Mail Tile I have to click on each account to find unread mail. Isn't there a way to show all email accounts in one pane with unread mail noted or do you simply have to work your way through all five "Accounts".
View 4 RepliesI have been unable to open the money tile since converting to Windows 10 (it opened once for a day and then stopped). I click on the tile and the program appears in the start line but it won't open.
View 3 Repliesmy startmenu in Windows 10 (build 10130).At the moment i have in my startmenu a maximum of 3 (normal sized) tiles in a row. But I would like to have 4 tiles in a row.
I know that this is possible because i had it a little time before in the same build. But after a little crash and a recovery of the system it changed to a 3tile menu.
Every time I boot up my pc I get a black screen with 2 lines of text "disk i/o error, replace the disk and then press any key". After I press any key pc boots up fine. Lenovo pc with Windows 10.
View 1 RepliesToday i unistalled a program i no longer wanted to use but to tile remained on the start menu and it won't unpin or delete.
