Monitor Not Waking Up After Automated Updates
Oct 16, 2015
Win10 runs flawlessly, standard PC, no problems never so far, PC+Monitor goes to sleep/wakes up on moving mouse, using keyboard... all is fine, drivers are newest. Only after Windows installed automatic updates unattended, mostly at night, it doesn't seem to go back to sleep correctly.
I just log off usually and the PC will sleep then. Windows update wakes it up, runs updates, but then the Computer keeps running. The monitor gone black does not wake up. Also the PC does not react to the PowerButton set to "shutdown".
Have to 5 sec. Button turn off/on. And every time after this happened and Windows booted properly, it tells me "updates have been installed"

I'm not sure where the fault may be for this, but here goes. I have a Dell E7250 laptop connected to a standard Dell e-port docking station. My monitor is a Dell U2515H connected via DisplayPort. Anytime I am away from my desk long enough, my laptop goes into sleep/power save. When I wake up the computer, the right side of my laptop shows heavy artifacts. If I unplug the DisplayPort cable from my docking station, then reconnect it, the issue goes away. I've swapped docks, cables, and even monitors, all identical, and I can't seem to narrow this down. I've also updated to the latest monitor driver for Windows 10 x64, and that didn't solve the issue.

Right click on Desktop > Personalize > Themes > Desktop Icon Settings > Add This PC...
This will make a "This PC" shortcut on desktop, which if you right click on, and choose Properties, will open up "System Details Window" rather than just showing a simple Properties window.
I want to automate the creation of this shortcut by a .reg or a .bat file somehow, Please note, just .rar or .bat automation.

I've been running a multi-monitor setup for a while now, with an ASUS VG248QE 144Hz monitor as my main, and one or more spare monitors as secondary displays. I've set the ASUS monitor to 144Hz without issue in the past, while the other monitors stay at 60Hz.
The other night, Windows wanted to update. I figured it was the usual patch session, so I let it do its thing. However, after restarting my computer, I noticed that my ASUS monitor would only operate at 144Hz if it was the only monitor plugged into the system. When I try to set it higher in the Nvidia control panel, it just reverts back to 60Hz after applying changes. I updated my graphics drivers (though I was only one version behind) and even sought a special ASUS driver for the monitor to resolve the issue, but nothing has worked.
Did Windows recently add a forced refresh rate sync between all monitors recently? If so, that really sucks because I only own one 144Hz monitor.

I installed Windows 10 and found some apps did not fit the monitor screen (too big). I went in and changed the monitor resolution to a larger size (windows recommended 1920 x 1080) but I tried something larger, and now the monitor has a black screen with a little box moving around which says "input not supported". Not being able to use that monitor to go in and change it back, I hooked up a flat screen t.v. which worked but Windows only showed the current monitor size (which was smaller than the original monitor.
I tried the monitor on another computer I have also running Windows 10 and it worked fine. It shows the resolution as 1920 x 1080. When I plugged it back into the original computer I get the same plack screen with "input not supported" so I can't change it there. I suspect the issue is with the registry somewhere in Windows 10 on the first computer, but what the problem is. I've been working on this for a whole day now. You can probably tell I'm not well versed in computer technology. I just want my old monitor back (Acer K272HL) and I promise I won't mess around with it again.

I recently got a new monitor, an Eizo EV2750, which Windows only recognizes as a generic PnP monitor.
I've tried connecting it thorugh DisplayPort, HDMI and DVI without any luck. The often mentioned sollution, to unlplug everything and wait 10 minutes, does not work either.
The graphics card seems to read the EDID however, as in nVidia control panel it displays correctly as EV2750. Same thing with other applications, like DisplayCAL which I use as my color management system.
Seems like it's only an issue with Windows. This issue, however, also means that I can't get full functionality from the monitor. For instance, the ambient light sensor does not work (which is typical when Windows doesn't recognize the display properly).

So recently I upgraded to windows 10 at the same time I got a 4k display. When I set the display scaling to 150% on my main 4k monitor and ensuring that the scaling stays at 100% on my other two 1080p monitors, the entire chrome application is blurry when viewing on the 1080 monitors, and I cannot seem to fix this. Other applications seem to be okay.
Furthermore after the scaling change, some icons on my 1080 monitor's desktop get larger, as if some scaling is applied to them. Is there any solution to this? At the moment I have had to set the scaling back to 100% on my main monitor in order to use chrome on the smaller monitors.

I just installed Windows 10. Now my laptop monitor won't work - only the external monitor. I go to Graphic setting and click on multiple displays, but it states it doesn't see another device only the external monitor. Tried disconnecting the external monitor and rebooting, but the laptop display still doesn't turn on.

I am running Windows 10
MSI R9 390 GPU
AMD Catalyst version 15.7.1
Main monitor is CrossOver QHD270 via Dual Link DVI
Second display is a Vizio TV via HDMI/DisplayPort
So I was messing around with a 3 display setup for the first time today, one monitor (DVI) and two TVs (one HDMI, one DisplayPort). Everything worked okay, and I could unplug one TV, but when I unplugged the second TV, my monitor went to a black screen. As soon as I plugged the TV back in, the monitor started working again. The main monitor I use every day is now completely dependent on a TV I occasionally use as a second display to be plugged in to function. When I turn on the computer with just the monitor plugged in, I can see the BIOS load up, and the first Windows 10 logo, but as soon as the password screen should be shown, the screen goes black. I tried uninstalling my graphics drivers. When the drivers were completely uninstalled, the monitor functioned normally, but as soon at AMD Catalyst Control Center was reinstalled, it went black until the TV was plugged back in. I've tried plugging the TV up through HDMI and DisplayPort, it makes no difference. Also, my monitor is listed as the main display in both CCC and Windows 10 display settings. Every once in a while when I unplug the TV, the Monitor will get darker and slowly fade to black instead of going straight to black.

My Acer keeps waking up around 3 to 4 in the morning. I've tried resetting the time for updates which worked for only one night.
I've followed a complicated maze of disabling programs which made the pc switch on at around 10pm but, after 3 days it brought me right back to square one.
Now I'm seeing on the device manager that most all my programs wake the pc up at around 4am.
I could also close the screen but that will erase all my tabs which is why putting the pc on sleep mode is my only option.

After upgrading to W10 my pc keeps waking up from sleep mode. I've disables the reboot and scan in to wake the pc in task scheduler, I removed the wake on lan, mouse and keyboard from waking it in device manager, and I've disabled what I can in power management. It still wakes up a few minutes after going into sleep mode..

I've tried:
-Disable power from waking with my LAN, Keyboard & Mouse
-Look at powercfg -lastwake but it shows wake source count - 0
Event log shows power-troubleshooter wake source: Unknown
Event log shows this 1 second after I press sleep: "The system firmware has changed the processor's memory type range registers (MTRRs) across a sleep state transition (S5). This can result in reduced resume performance."
I thought it was because my time is syncing with network time, but I disabled the sync time automatically
I also checked my power plan to make sure nothing wakes the computer up, and I don't have automatic updates on. It's really annoying when you go to sleep and after about 15minutes the computer boots back up from sleep.

Since I bought my new laptop several months ago, it has been waking itself up out of sleep mode. If I leave it in sleep mode overnight, I can be sure that by morning it will be awake. If I'm in uni and I need to slip it back in its sleeve on sleep mode - a couple hours later I will later find the sleeve hot and the laptop awake.
I have tried things such as looking up in cmd propt things that have authority to wake the pc up, but it states that nothing does. I have disabled options on my anti-virus for background tasks. I am just not sure where to go from here as no success so far.

Not sure if it's just me, but for some reason, since the Jan 12 patch Tuesday, I no longer see definition updates for Windows Defender on Windows Update's "View your update history" page.
I, for one, am happy about this change, since those "Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602" were clogging up the update history page.

I put my PC to sleep and when I wake it up, I'm getting no display on my monitors although the PC itself wakes up. I reboot the computer and encounter a BSOD "VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (nvlddmkm.sys)"
I recently updated from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Nvidia drivers have been updated as well.

Whenever my laptop goes to sleep, the only way to wake it up is through the laptop's keyboard (pressing any key on the keyboard). But when I press the USB keyboard or the USB mouse, it doesn't wake up.I use my laptop mostly as a "desktop": I connect it through an HDMI cable to a larger 24" monitor, and the laptop is lying closed in the corner. It is just annoying to open the laptop and press the keyboard.. not a big deal, but if it's possible to change that it will be good !

I'm getting a blue screen advising "ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY" a couple of seconds after my computer wakes from sleep mode. It's not sporadic as it happens every time.
I've downloaded the log collector and attached the ZIP file to this post. First time poster so I hope I've done it correctly!
