Monitor Random Power Downs?

Aug 2, 2015

Since upgrading to windows 10, my monitor randomly goes to power save mode (standby). This appears to be mainly in games. e.g. Lord of the Rings Online, but I have noticed the same in Chrome once in a while. Apart from that, all seems to be fine. I am running the latest GeForce drivers....10.18.13.5362

Performance :: Resume From Monitor Power Off

Oct 22, 2015

So i just upgraded from Windows 7 to Win10 a week ago and everything went smooth as silk. I will said this is the first time i can remember doing an in place upgrade, I always format and do a clean install about once a year but ive been busy so i took the lazy route.

Issue is i have my power settings set to None and my power options set to turn the monitors off after 10 minutes. I have it set to Never sleep. After the 10 minutes passes the monitors power off as expected but when i move the mouse or hit keys on my keyboard it takes at least 10-15 seconds to initiate the monitor power on. This was 1-2 seconds in Windows 7. Its pretty minor but its irritating as hell.

Installation :: Monitor Not Working After Power Outage During Upgrade?

Sep 13, 2015

About 2 weeks ago I was upgrading Windows from 7 to 10. wehn at about 35% through there was a power outage and all power was lost.

When the power came back on, I switched my computer on and the screen was blank, power was getting to the screen, it came up with the ACER brand name and then said 'signal lost' and turned off.

The computer does something, but I'm not sure what as I cant see anythign on the screen, I connected 2 different monitors to get the same response.

What can I do to get the computer working properly, I'm not sure if the upgrade was sucessful or not and need to get information from the the PC.

what I can do to get the use of the computer back again without deleting all the data on it, or how I can transfer the files to another PC.

Cycling Monitor Power (sometimes) When Switching Between Fullscreen And Windowed Mode?

Dec 20, 2015

Just installed Windows 10 about a month or two ago, and ever since I upgraded (from Windows 7), whenever a program enters full-screen mode (a game for example), the monitor cycles its power off and back on for a quick second, which causes it to display its "power-on" logo on the screen (in this case, the Acer logo), and wait a few seconds before it goes back to the correct display.

I watched lately when it started doing this, and the blue light that shows monitor power actually flicks off for a quick second, and then comes back on. I've never seen it do this before, but it's like maybe Windows 10 is changing the monitor display output to some insane resolution maybe, and causing it to power itself off for a second? Or it's turning the output off for a second?

Constant Computer Crashing Including Blue Screens / Random Restarts And Complete Power Offs

Dec 10, 2015

My computer is crashing constantly, and its gotten to a point where its just very hard to use. It sometimes crashes 3 or 4 times a day, with crashes including blue screens, random restarts, complete power offs, and a combination of blue screen and mid blue screen it turns off. I've manually removed software, used malware scanners, cleared data, but nothing so far has worked.

My computer is the CyberPower GUA880, with the single modification of an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti graphics card.

My most common BSOD is CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT

Performance :: Power Down Button Does Not Completely Turn Computer Power Off?

Jan 28, 2016

I recently upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10. When I power down the system from the menu, my computer does not completely turn off. The procedure I use is described below:

Click Windows_Start_button > Power > Shutdown

The system closes applications and appears to initiate a shutdown procedure. Everything appears to be shut off, but my mouse is still lit up. I do notice that the fan stops and everything else appears to be completely shut down. When I was running Windows 7 before my upgrade, my system completely powered down.

I have a dual boot system with Linux, and when I power down from Linux, the shutdown is complete, so I don't think I accidentally did anything to the hardware or BIOS.

Graphic Cards :: Dual Monitor Setup Locks 144Hz Monitor At 60Hz

Nov 22, 2015

I've been running a multi-monitor setup for a while now, with an ASUS VG248QE 144Hz monitor as my main, and one or more spare monitors as secondary displays. I've set the ASUS monitor to 144Hz without issue in the past, while the other monitors stay at 60Hz.

The other night, Windows wanted to update. I figured it was the usual patch session, so I let it do its thing. However, after restarting my computer, I noticed that my ASUS monitor would only operate at 144Hz if it was the only monitor plugged into the system. When I try to set it higher in the Nvidia control panel, it just reverts back to 60Hz after applying changes. I updated my graphics drivers (though I was only one version behind) and even sought a special ASUS driver for the monitor to resolve the issue, but nothing has worked.

Did Windows recently add a forced refresh rate sync between all monitors recently? If so, that really sucks because I only own one 144Hz monitor.

Graphic Cards :: Changed Monitor Resolution Now Monitor Says Input Not Supported?

Nov 27, 2015

I installed Windows 10 and found some apps did not fit the monitor screen (too big). I went in and changed the monitor resolution to a larger size (windows recommended 1920 x 1080) but I tried something larger, and now the monitor has a black screen with a little box moving around which says "input not supported". Not being able to use that monitor to go in and change it back, I hooked up a flat screen t.v. which worked but Windows only showed the current monitor size (which was smaller than the original monitor.

I tried the monitor on another computer I have also running Windows 10 and it worked fine. It shows the resolution as 1920 x 1080. When I plugged it back into the original computer I get the same plack screen with "input not supported" so I can't change it there. I suspect the issue is with the registry somewhere in Windows 10 on the first computer, but what the problem is. I've been working on this for a whole day now. You can probably tell I'm not well versed in computer technology. I just want my old monitor back (Acer K272HL) and I promise I won't mess around with it again.

Drivers/Hardware :: Eizo EV2750 / Windows Not Reading Monitor EDID / Only Recognizes As A Generic PnP Monitor

Feb 10, 2016

I recently got a new monitor, an Eizo EV2750, which Windows only recognizes as a generic PnP monitor.

I've tried connecting it thorugh DisplayPort, HDMI and DVI without any luck. The often mentioned sollution, to unlplug everything and wait 10 minutes, does not work either.

The graphics card seems to read the EDID however, as in nVidia control panel it displays correctly as EV2750. Same thing with other applications, like DisplayCAL which I use as my color management system.

Seems like it's only an issue with Windows. This issue, however, also means that I can't get full functionality from the monitor. For instance, the ambient light sensor does not work (which is typical when Windows doesn't recognize the display properly).

Chrome Blurry On Second Monitor After Display Scaling On Main Monitor

Aug 10, 2015

So recently I upgraded to windows 10 at the same time I got a 4k display. When I set the display scaling to 150% on my main 4k monitor and ensuring that the scaling stays at 100% on my other two 1080p monitors, the entire chrome application is blurry when viewing on the 1080 monitors, and I cannot seem to fix this. Other applications seem to be okay.

Furthermore after the scaling change, some icons on my 1080 monitor's desktop get larger, as if some scaling is applied to them. Is there any solution to this? At the moment I have had to set the scaling back to 100% on my main monitor in order to use chrome on the smaller monitors.

Main Monitor Only Works When A Second Monitor Is Plugged In?

Sep 23, 2015

I am running Windows 10

MSI R9 390 GPU
AMD Catalyst version 15.7.1
Main monitor is CrossOver QHD270 via Dual Link DVI
Second display is a Vizio TV via HDMI/DisplayPort

So I was messing around with a 3 display setup for the first time today, one monitor (DVI) and two TVs (one HDMI, one DisplayPort). Everything worked okay, and I could unplug one TV, but when I unplugged the second TV, my monitor went to a black screen. As soon as I plugged the TV back in, the monitor started working again. The main monitor I use every day is now completely dependent on a TV I occasionally use as a second display to be plugged in to function. When I turn on the computer with just the monitor plugged in, I can see the BIOS load up, and the first Windows 10 logo, but as soon as the password screen should be shown, the screen goes black. I tried uninstalling my graphics drivers. When the drivers were completely uninstalled, the monitor functioned normally, but as soon at AMD Catalyst Control Center was reinstalled, it went black until the TV was plugged back in. I've tried plugging the TV up through HDMI and DisplayPort, it makes no difference. Also, my monitor is listed as the main display in both CCC and Windows 10 display settings. Every once in a while when I unplug the TV, the Monitor will get darker and slowly fade to black instead of going straight to black.

PC Random Reboot

Aug 31, 2015

Upgraded to windows 10 from windows 8.1 on July 31st, for the first 20 days there were no problems, now my PC will randomly reboot. The event log only shows that the system unexpectedly shut down, no errors. I read that changing when the computer sleeps from never to a set time has solved the problem for some. I tried this and the random reboot didn't happen for a few days, then a update happened on the 28th of August and now the problem is back.

I've run memtest86+ and didn't show any problems (I stopped it at 15 passes). Also checked my HDD and SSD but they were fine.

Random Freezing While Using A PC

Oct 23, 2015

I have a new PC that I built and i'll include the parts at the end. I'm running Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview. Eval copy. Build 10565. This machine randomly freezes on me(No BSOD) and I haven't been able to figure out the cause. It does not matter what i'm doing whether it be, browsing the web, downloading driver packages, checking email.. etc. I feel that i'm experienced enough to figure these things out with 3 years of troubleshooting experience, A+ certified and i'm a SQL dev.

[Code]

Right now I only have 1 23" Dell Monitor hooked up to DVI because I wasn't sure if it was the other 2 causing the graphics card to freeze up.

All USB Devices Get Disconnected At Random?

Mar 5, 2016

my Mouse, Keyboard and my audio interface get disabled a few times a day. at seemingly random intervals.
mouse and keyboard are mostly no problem because they reconnect instantly, with one exception today which forced me to restart as win10 refused to detect them again.

but most annoying is when it disconnects my audio interface because it never manages to reconnect without me manually pulling the usb plug out and in. some programs and game crashs when i do that, or just wouldnt play any sound without restarting the program in question.

i installed win10 a few weeks ago, its a clean install not an update. this problem hasnt occured ever before last week or something. so i suspect some auto-updates could have messed with it. i have not tinkered with usb drivers or anything like that,

Random Hibernation After Upgrading From W8.1

Feb 18, 2016

I get the random dirty hibernation of my laptop if I don't activate an input (mouse or keyboard) in the span of 1minute. I had Windows 8.1 prior to upgrading to Windows 10 and all my power settings were fine and I never had the dirty hibernate then upgrading to Windows 10 for some reason I get it.

One way I sort of prevent the Hibernate is to:

Completely shut down/restart my PCWhen it bootsRun CMD in "Administration Mode"Type powercfg /h offHit EnterThen hope for the bestThis is only when its plugged into a power source, when I take the laptop off power and only use battery and I walk away for 1minute it does the dirty hibernation, its like a retarded dog that you feed it once it stays, the moment you walk away from it it craps on you.

And before you answer "Have you checked your System Power & Sleep settings, yes I have and the Advanced Settings which are component specific.

I'm afraid over time if this continues to happen my PC will crap itself.

Random Shutdown / Restart

Sep 8, 2015

Okay so I've upgraded and use windows 10 for about 2 weeks now. All is fine until I've experienced this random shutdown where the computer turns off completely in a splitsecond then reboots itself. No BSODs, no warnings at all. Recently, it's been shutting itself down and reboots itself but won't even make it to the login screen before it shuts itself down again and this will continue in a loop. I had to turn off the plug and turn it back on. It will prompt a system restore which the computer will work fine for a while after the system restore. I assume this problem is because of windows 10 because I have not experienced this problem when I was using windows 8.1.

My Specs:

Intel Core i5-4590 3.3Ghz
Kingston HyperX 8GB 2x
ZOTAC Geforece GTX970
Samsung 840EVO SSD 256GB (Boot drive)
WD Caviar Blue 1TB

Random Log In Screen When PC Is Locked

Oct 21, 2015

I noticed within the past week that, when my PC is locked and the lock screen is showing, it will randomly look like it's trying to log in without any action on my part. The lock screen will go up and then the loading circle will appear for a few seconds. Then, the screen goes black and it returns to the lock screen image. I have no problems logging in or out, but it's just kind of annoying and buggy. This is on both my laptop and my desktop.

Random Freezes And PC Becomes Unresponsive After Upgrade

Sep 27, 2015

I upgraded from a fully-functioning Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 this weekend. The upgrade process seemed simple enough, but I am suffering from intermittent freezes which can only be resolved with a full (hardware button) reset.

At a random time - after anything from 5 to 50 minutes - the screen will suddenly power off (the monitor itself will usually tell me it is going into sleep mode). Sometimes I'm in the middle of something; sometimes I've gone away and have returned to an unresponsive PC. Sometimes I will see the mouse cursor and desktop freeze for about a second before the screen goes black; sometimes I won't. If I'm playing music, it will stop. Ctrl-Alt-Delete doesn't do anything - but the hard drive light still flashes, as if Windows is still running. (The error logs don't *seem* to show anything out of the ordinary, other than that I then have to do a socking great reset!)

I've tried various things already - I've made sure the graphics drivers are up-to-date (via an install from scratch); I've disconnected everything from the USB ports; I've booted with everything in Startup set to disabled... But the problem keeps recurring, and I really don't want to have to scrub everything I've got and do a 'nuclear' install. (In theory, I'm dual booting with Windows 7, but have not booted into that for years, probably.)

Safe mode seems stable, as does the screen before you actually log on, so I'm inclined to think it's a driver issue or something, but they're all up-to-date, too. I'm running a single monitor, BTW.

Where to look in those error logs...
