Moved Files Gone Missing?

I got a new laptop today which came with Windows 10 which I've never used before, so everything's still very new to me.
I've been trying to move files off my previous laptop which runs Windows 7. I've spent a few hours collecting everything I need onto an ext. hard drive, but once I cut & paste my files onto this new laptop, nothing shows up. The destination folder is completely empty, and I made sure while the files were copying over.
Is there anywhere else they might have gone? Luckily I was able to ctrl+z to get all my files back or else they would've been gone forever. But this time all the files reappear in the ext hard drive like they were meant to, so I'm really confused. Is it a problem with Windows, or my external?
I've also noticed that the files copy over just fine if I send them bit by bit, say, about 3GB each time? But I've got 400+GB sitting around here.

Iinstalled windows 10. After installation, my files were ok. Immediately, i moved them to the desktop and documents. Then, i restart the pc. Then i see that all my files (on desktop and documents) are gone. My programms and other files are ok but the ones that i moved to desktop and documents were deleted. How can I restore them?

Something is happening when I am using email that I can't prevent.
Messages in my Inbox are automatically getting moved and deleted, without me doing anything.
I access my email on line at netmail.verizon.net
While I am in email, looking at my inbox. I often will get a sort of pop up message. A kind of "moving cursor" appears as a pop up or overlay. It says "moving messages."
There is no option to stop or cancel this.
Sometimes the messages are being moved to my Trash folder. Other times, I can't figure out what has happened to them. They seem to disappear.
I called tech support at my email provider, Verizon. The tech support person checked everything and could not figure it out. The problem does not have anything to do with filters.
She said something in my computer -- some kind of bug-- perhaps something I downloaded, perhaps some program or app, is interfering with my email and causing this to happen. She says the problem is not one at Verizon's end and that they can’t fix it.
I am using Windows 10 and Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013.
I usually access the Internet via Mozilla Firefox.

I have an email account with Verizon which I regularly use. I access Verizon email via the Internet.

The icon says “moving messages,” but there is no indication where they are being moved. Messages will automatically disappear. Which messages have disappeared is not apparent. But they are disappearing. I know this for certain.

It does not seem to be the case of what she suggested as per the above paragraph, because the same problem of messages being deleted automatically – of an unwanted pop message appearing on the screen saying “moving messages” -- occurs on a different computer in our house, my wife’s laptop. The same thing will happen with respect to messages being moved and/or deleted when I am accessing Verizon email via the Internet using my wife’s laptop.

I upgraded to Windows 10 last week. I had folders and some files missing right away. I went into the "Old Windows" folder and nothing was there. Also, I couldn't go back to Windows 7 or a previous system restore because an error is all that would come up. Now, after shutting down my computer and restarting the next day, I'm missing folders. For example, I create a folder I title "Edit" for images to work on everyday (I'm a photographer), and the folder is completely missing.

There was a problem starting
C:/users/appdata/local/webrest/bin/webrest.dll
and
C:/users/appdata/local/ExtensionKingdom/xBin/ExtensionKingdom.dll
I have attached a snapshot of the error messages. How can I sort this out?

I have upgraded from 7 to 10 and there really is nothing wrong with my machine but I seem to have a lot of missing files in the registry and I was wondering if they can be deleted. There really is no rush with this one.

last night my computer automatically updated itself and by morning the strangest thing had happened. My deskop was all differently organized, the wallpaper was some random windows image, the Start menu was very different as well.
Folder of documents/music, etc were empty (though the data was elsewhere). Worse: I use firefox and my passwords cache is suddenly empty, no history of yesterday's activity, basically no nothing. Is there a way to recover my passwords/bookmarks or am I failing to see something on the big picture?

i was planning on upgrading my W7 main machine this weekend to windows 10, at one point i did have the Downloaded Files to do the upgrade, but those files are now missing From the Folder.
I did clean up my C: in prep for the install, did i remove the Windows 10 Files., if so, How do i get them back.
Updates are up to date.

I have used an old Brodabund family Tree Maker programme in many Windows versions as they have evolved. I successefully started it running in Win 10 but now I cannot open it. I get a message that tells me that variouse .dll files are missing.

Where can I find the setting to choose where my downloaded files end up. I would like music samples to dl to specific place, vst instrument zips to a specific place, etc....
Up until now whenever I dl something with 10 it just auto goes to downloads unlike before I had 10.
It's been annoying but I figured I'd get a round toit one day. Can't seem to find how to fix this.

I just signed up for the last Build of the Techincal Preview. Such big surprised I had when I saw that now the files on OneDrive that are not selected to be offline are just not there. With Windows 8.1 I had my entire OneDrive folder set online to make free space on my computer.
Did I miss any option on the settings of the operating system or the OneDrive app to make my online files still appear there?

I updated to windows 10 and I couldn't find any of my files. Eventually found them moved in a folder. Once I restarted my computer, all of the files were gone and I had more storage on my computer. These are files as in music, movies, and pictures. They are NO WHERE to be found.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10, Put OS onto SSD along with a few other essentials and have a second hard drive for storage.The shared Pictures, Videos, Documents (etc) folders were all by default on my relatively small SSD. how to move location of the folders (right click the relevant folder, select 'Properties', then select 'Location', then 'Move', browse to where you want it to go . . .)
Here's the thing, in the process of moving my 'Pictures' folder to what is currently labelled as my F: drive, I managed to browse to F - but not actually select a folder.My 'Pictures' location is now my F: drive , oops, I'm now feeling like a bit of a donkey! but hey ho, I'll just move 'Pictures' again - to a folder this time - with a name right? - NO, that wont work - I guess because it now thinks I want to move the entire contents of my F: drive maybe?
OK - well, there's an option to 'Restore Default' (within the Location tab) - I select that and it looks promising, the original target on my C: drive shows in the window but upon pressing 'Apply' it then asks:Do you want to move all of the files from the old location to the new location?
Old location: F:
New Location: C:UsersLaptopPictures
We recommend moving all of the files so that programs needing to access the folder's content can do so.And if I press yes, I get:The folder can't be moved hereAccess is denied.Basically the same issue again - The 'Folder' in this case is my F: drive that has other shared folders within it - so I guess that's why I can't do this?So, currently I have a drive as a location for my 'Pictures' not a convenient holding folder within that drive.The method for moving all the other folders has been fine (where I actually moved them to named folders on a different drive).

Win 10 updated automatically (unfortunately) and this morning all desktop items have moved from primary to secondary display and I can't move them back. Unrelated but any way for stopping these updates completely??

I just upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1. I can see all my files must still be on my harddrive as my harddrive hasn't gained any extra space. However, when I go to the C:drive Windows.old I cannot locate my old files. I had a massive collection of music and video and want them all back. Am I missing something or looking in the wrong place? Inside Windows.old I have the following files Perflogs, Program Files, Program files (x86), Recovery, Users, WINDOWS. There is a file NTUSER.DAT.gu in the Windows.old-Users-Guest could all my files be in there?

If I delete or move items in win 10 they stay visible in the folder until I refresh.
It was a minor issue to start with but it is now interfering with fast operation of using the OS. If you see stuff in a folder then you presume it is there! Trying to delete things that do not exist is becoming a recurring theme now.

I have an Acer (Intel Pentium Windows 10, 64-bit) computer which I bought a few months ago, and created one 'user' (my name - say John) Suddenly this week when I logged in (as John) the only items on the desktop were the default programs installed with the computer; all my files were gone. When opening the browser, or windows media player, all my custom settings were gone and it was as if the programs were being used for the first time. The default program used to open files (e.g. the original program instead of windows media player) had all reverted also.The start button was/is also not working.
I then discovered my files are still there and accessible - to do so I have to right-click on one of the programmes on desktop and 'open file location' then I can use the left column to (through windows explorer) get to C drive then 'Users' then 'John' and I can access everything that way.Also, the keyboard settings have bizarrely changed ie shift + 2 gives the @ sign instead of quotation mark.I have Norton which suggests no virus involved.I didn't have system restore activated.When computer starts it says press DEL to enter setup but nothing happens when I press it.is there anyway to fix this without doing a reset?

I have two backup tasks that appear in the "scheduled backups" tab, and they run on schedule, but they don't appear in the "backup definition files" tab.
This happened due to an uninstall and reinstall.
How can I get them back into the "backup definition files" tab?
I still have the reflect folder in my documents, with the xml files that define the backup tasks. But for some reason, that isn't enough to get those tasks to appear in the scheduled backups tab.
Another minor issue: when I boot from the MR recovery partition, in order to run a restore, it doesn't know where to look for my backup files. I have to add the folder manually, and then it forgets again the next time.

Even when using disk cleanup in admin account it will say deleted but after restarting and going back into disk cleanup they are back.Even using Windows app they come back after deletion.On another note system restore doesn't seem to work , i did a system restore and even though i got the message that system restore completed successfully after i rebooted my screen was frozen and i had to do a system refresh to get it up and running again.I have been waiting for it to delete my temp files for 8 minutes already.
