Multiple Monitors And Can't View Files But See Them In Task Bar
Aug 14, 2015
I've recently updated from windows 7 to 10. I went to set up my dual monitors (I have 1 to my left) for some reason the monitor to my lefts identity is 3 center is Number 2. I can't seem to change this to 1 and 2
Next issue I can open a file and I can see it in my task-bar on the bottom but it won't open up on either monitor (# 2 or 3) It appears to be opened perhaps on a monitor to my right that does not exist (# 1 perhaps) I can slide some files over to my left (#3) and every now and then a file from my task-bar opens on my main monitor.

I have a dual monitor setup:
- Main screen, where I work using different applications in different virtual desktops.
- Secondary screen, where another application constantly running in the foreground (e.g.: showing a movie, youtube videos etc.), which I need to be always shown.
When I create multiple desktops in my main screen, Windows also creates the same desktops in the secondary screen.
When working, I alt-tab to move between main screen's applications, which potentially changes desktops.
The problem is that the same desktops are changed in my secondary screen; therefore, my application stops showing when changing desktops.
I was wondering if I can resolve this somehow. For example:
1) Disabling virtual desktops for my secondary monitor specifically
2) Copy application to all desktops (therefore, it shows regardless of which desktop I am switching)

Say I have a desktop 1 with MS Word open. If I then open another desktop (desktop 2), and then open a word file from my hard drive on desktop 2, windows 10 will take me out of desktop 2, put be back on desktop 1, and then open the file I requested. I then have to open the desktop switcher, and manually drag the word document from desktop 1 to desktop 2.
Effectively, if I have a window of one application open in one desktop, and I then open the same application in a different desktop, windows will move me back to the original desktop and open the application there.
This is extremely annoying and occurs with all applications, is there any way to fix it?

I use multiple monitors while at work (As I assume most people do now). One quirk I have seen on Windows 8/8.1 and now Windows 10 is how the start menu launches applications. Now that Windows has start menu access on all monitors is there a way to force the apps to launch on the monitor they are being launched from? For example, I use the start menu on Monitor 3 I would expect the app to launch on Monitor 3 not Monitor 1.

I have a Lenovo T450s as my primary machine issued to me at work. It has an Intel Integrated Graphics Card and a 1920 X 1080 screen. I have two additional monitors, a 28 inch 4K Samsung, and a 24 inch 1080p Samsung. I have the following DPI settings.
Laptop Monitor - 100%
4K Monitor - 150% (anything lower and it is completely unusable, everything is super tiny)
24 inch 1080 - 100%
If I set my Laptop screen as my primary screen the laptop screen and the 24 inch 1080 monitor look share, but most apps look fuzzy, sometimes somewhat noticeable, other times it is very noticeable when moved to the 4K monitor with DPI scaling set at 150%.
The opposite happens if I set the 4k monitor as the primary monitor and restart. Then the 4K monitor looks very sharp and clear. However then the laptop screen and 24 inch 1080 monitor look fuzzy and blurry.
Visual Studio 2013, SSMS 2014, Chrome are the application that are bothering me the most right now. There are a small number of apps like Edge that seem to work fine regardless of whatever the DPI settings are.
I was excited to see Windows 10 added per monitor DPI scaling and claimed to fix the issues with DPI scaling on Windows 8 when having multiple monitors of different pixel densities. However from what I've seen they really haven't fixed much.

In my home theatre I have a Win 10 Pro PC , set up for Extended Display set up for:
- a large 4k TV (the default), with high res settings (Monitor 2)
- a small legacy 17" display, low-res settings (Monitor 1)
The large screen is the default screen, as that's what I need to be displayed when watching media, and controlling things via a wireless keyboard on the couch.
The purpose of the small display is simply so that I don't have to have to keep the large display on when:
-doing minor config/setup work
-listening to music via iTunes
-viewing the 'current' song being played on my digital cable box
-etc
It's more or less working well, but THE ISSUE IS THIS:
When working when both displays are on, and the active window in on the large display, I can select it and drag it over to the small display to work with. But when the large display is powered off, I am blind ; all I see is the task bar and whatever I launch goes , of course, goes to the default display.
-Is there any tool or utility I can use to virtually see the open window on the active monitor and so I can drag it over?
-Is there any tool or utility , like TeamViewer has, where there is a top level menu "Next Monitor" to manage the screens.
Ironically, when I do use Team Viewer from another room, its perfect as I can flip between monitors at will (as I am starting on the 'default' screen). But when I am in front the physical machine, in front of the small monitor, I dont have that option.
What I kinda need is the multiple monitor option of Duplicated displays, but that does not work because of the different resolutions.
I can use Show Desktop Only on 1, as I cant get there ( ie a right click will always show up on the large screen only as is the default.
I need to power up the large display, drag the window (eg iTunes) to the smaller display, and then turn off the large TV.

I am running Widows 10 Pro, 64-bit with 3 monitors using an Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 Ti graphics card and have an Intel 7i-4930K CPU with 32 gig of RAM. For the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties I have it configured so that it shows all taskbars on all displays.
The behavior that currently exists is that if I launch an application from any monitor it opens on the one it was last open on. For example, if I have Notepad open on monitor 3, close it, launch the application from monitor 1 it actually opens on monitor 3.
The behavior I would like is for the application to open on the monitor I launch it from. For example, if I have Notepad open on monitor 3, close it, launch the application on monitor 1 it is displayed on monitor 1. It would be wonderful if I could launch Notepad on monitor 1 and have it display there, launch Notepad on monitor 2 and have it display there and finally launch Notepad on monitor 3 and have it display there.
Is this possible and/or a setting I just am not aware of in Windows 10? Granted, Notepad is not the most exciting application but it was just an example.

Interesting, once I installed my new graphics card I finally setup my second monitor to test the multi monitor settings - and one thing surprised me...
Tablet mode is disabled when multiple monitors are being used. I suppose that makes a lot is sense, I just wasn't expecting it.

I'm having some problems after my Windows upgrade from 7 to 10...
Basically, I'm working on a multiple monitor system. When I move my mouse around the screen, windows changes the focus from the window that I'm working in (a spreadsheet for example), and starts entering data in any window i mouse-over.
I found a partial solution in the following thread.....but this only disables the window popping-up (the focus still changes).

Just installed Win10 yesterday, and taking a first look at the Calendar app. Unless I have overlooked something, this app has a flaw that makes it almost not worth using.
I'm using the app to display my Google Calendar events, a month at a time. In many cases, I have enough events scheduled for a single day that they won't all fit in the cell in Month View. Is there really no way to display all the events for a given date (including the ones that don't fit) in Month View? (For example, in the Calendar app on my phone, it is usually the case that not all the events for a given date show in the grid, but tapping the date in question displays a pop-up that shows them all). This app just runs them off the bottom of the cell. It doesn't even alert you to the fact that there are additional events for that date that it isn't displaying!

I'd love to map Windows 10's Task View to one of my mouse's buttons, but SetPoint* (the software for my Logitech mouse) does not support WinKey-based keyboard shortcuts, so mapping WinKey+Tab is impossible.
I was wondering if there is any alternative way to launch Task View, for instance:
a cmd command to launch Task View?an executable for Task View somewhere inside the system32 folder or something, which I can create a manual shortcut tomaybe an alternative keyboard shortcut not involving WinKey?
I use SetPoint 6.32 for compatibility reasons, upgrading SetPoint to a new version (which supports Task View out of the box) is not an option because my mouse stops working properly.

My pc is about one year old and I was running Windows 7. Since updating to Windows 10 I am being denied access to some of my files. When trying to access some of my Word files I get the following message " looks like you don't have permission to view this file. Check permissions and try again". Another message I get when trying to access some other files is " user does not have access privileges ". I am the sole user of the PC and always have been. I have tried to solve this but have not been successful.

Before win10 (until 8.1), I was able to open image files within zipped folder with Windows Photo Viewer and view next/previous pictures. After upgraded to win10, I can still open a pictures file within zipped folder but can no longer continuously view next/previous image. I have to either unzip or double each one to open.

I want to block a certain application from any access to the internet, either inbound or outbound, so it will never attempt to upgrade. I went in the Advanced Settings in Windows Firewall but I can only block one-by-one the executable files (EXE) and this application has at least 30. Is there any way to block all EXE files in a specific folder at once?
I want to block all executables from accessing or receiving data from the internet, which is a totally different thing.

Windows 10 has many little problems, her are some with "Shift"!
If I want to let's say select 10 Files in Windows File Manager and click on the first one, press Shift and click on the last one. (I used this method since windows 3.1)
10 files are now selected, if I do this in Windows 3.1 to 7. Windows 10 ignores Shift and the click selects the last file and no other file is highlighted any more, the highlight just jumps to file 10!
I even tried to switch on "Use check boxes to select items", rebooted and nothing had changed. Can not even get check boxes!
In your Forums Tutorials the is a section with File manger shortcuts which states:
Shift with any arrow key:"Select more than one item in a window or on the desktop or select text within a document"

I keep getting blue screens randomly with different messages, including KERNEL_INPAGE_ERROR, CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED, and more. It doesn't seem to be associated with any particular app or thing that I do. This morning, I woke up to find that is BSODed in the middle of the night for apparently no reason.
I have tried SFC /SCANNOW (corrupt files can't be fixed), DISM restore_health, reinstalling Windows, check disk... You name it.

I recently did a clean install on Windows 10. I've updated my drivers, downloaded some games, even made some system restore points. I installed Steam & it killed my internet, making connections to the Internet, Dropbox, sporadic though my RPD client seemed unphased..I think it has to do with Steams UDP request overwhelming my Comcast modem.
Anyways, so I did a system restore prior to installing steam and fixed the problems, I have great internet again. The problem I am now having is that I check my downloads folder on Windows 10 and my previous downloads are not there, so I redownload them. Now I have all these new downloads showing up as programinstaller.exe (1), as if there's already a file with the exact same name in that folder. Sure enough I was going to reinstall steam, the installer was not visible, but doing a folder search it shows up.
how I can see all of the files in my folders, it's going to drive me bonkers having files that I can't see. I have hidden files checked to be shown.
