Need To Specify Folder On A Drive For Autoplay Import From Memory Card
Aug 7, 2015
I'm stumped but before I upgrade to Windows 7. I have 1000's of photos stored on a separate hard drive system. In Win 7 I had set up auto play to save the photos to a folder on the external drive. In Win 10 I can't seem to do this, I've been to Settings/Devices - Auto Play, and in the end the only way round was to change the path of the system folder 'pictures' to the path on the drive. Photos now get imported to the right place but I'm not happy it being a system folder and the photos are imported into a folder named by the date. In Win 7 I could tag the photos on import and the folder & photos would be named with the tag and numbered sequentially. I need this functionality back.

Whenever I connect my camera, I see these options:
I have no interest in using the rubbish "Photos app" to import my pictures.
I want to use the built-in Import Wizard in Windows 10, which can be found by going to "This PC" and right clicking camera/tablet, then clicking "Import Pictures and Videos".
The "Import Pictures and Videos" wizard is vastly superior to the "Photos app" crap. How can I put the "Import Pictures and Videos" option in AutoPlay, like in Windows 7/Vista/XP? If I recall correctly, Windows 8 also had this problem. It had the built-in wizard along with the rubbish "Photos app", but only the "Photos app" appeared in AutoPlay.

I swear I had a import photos and videos option for devices on Windows 10 but now it seems I don't. This is what I get for options.I don't even have the options in my autoplay settings and default settings.

I have an HP DV4 Laptop(i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) that came with Windows 7, I recently updated to Win10. Everything seems fine except of the high CPU usage in System and Compressed memory. I narrowed it down to the Realtek Memory Card reader. I should also mention that right after the Win10 update two Realtek Memory Card Reader entries were in Device Manager with yellow exclamation icons.
I deleted them and had Windows install the drivers from Windows updates, after that everything LOOKS fine. And there's only one entry now. After a while I noticed the fan making a lot of noise, wasn't like that in Win7.Anyway, after hours of troubleshooting I eventually came back to the Realtek reader, sure enough after disabling it CPU went to normal.I have also downloaded the newest driver from realtek site.

My memory card is not being imported onto computer. I never had this problem before until I upgraded to Windows 10. I have to say overall I am very dissatisfied with this new version. Not the only issue, but this is important to me. My camera is a Canon 350HS Power Shot. I was able to upload prior to upgrading.

I cannot remember what the Hard Drive requirements are for the Windows 10 upgrade but I do remember that when I read it I immedialy concluded my Tablet has nowhere near enough free space, with only just over 3 GB at present (and likely to become less). Am I right in thinking that the fact that W10 will be replacing W8.1, so the memory memory it occupies. will be available, does not alter this? It might be a daft question (I have quite limited expertise!) but it got me wondering if an external USB HD or some other device can be used? I have read that any recent machine (mine is only a few months old) which can run Windows 8 now, will be able to run Windows 10. The suppliers of my Quantum View 10.1 Tablet emailed customers while ago to tell us we would be eligable for the upgrade.

I have installed Windows10 on a Gateway FX530 desktop PC. All has gone well with one exception. The OS seems to recognize that there is a card reader attached, I can see them through Device manager. When I insert a SD card the system completely ignores the device and will not allow me to access it. I have tried to change the drivers, without success. This card reader worked just fine with Windows 7 Pro and there was no indication that they would not work with Windows 10 when I ran the upgrade test.

I'm running a 64 bit Windows 10 laptop. On idle, the System process is showing a high memory usage of more than 150 MB, usually more than 200 MB. Using poolmon the pooltag SpDN showed up with a memory leak. It leads to the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver, iaStorV.sys. How should I go about fixing the problem?

The disk drive is physically working and connected properly to the motherboard. I can open it, put in a disk, see the light flashing and hear it humming. But cds/dvds do not run despite autoplay being enabled. There is no icon for the drive in explorer, but it does appear in device manager as SlimType DVD A DS8A5SH (double listing).
Worked when I had Winblows 7 : Sometimes works edition.
Specs : Gateway Laptop + Winblows 10 64 bit

I recently did the free upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 on my desktop. Everything went smoothly, except for the fact that Autoplay doesn't want to work anymore. I can get it to come up with the notification in the Action Center when I plugged a USB device in, but clicking the actual device name just gets rid of it from the list, and nothing else happens.
The weird thing is that this only happens in my main profile on my PC. I created a new profile recently (in addition to my main one), and Autoplay works flawlessly there. Is there some setting that got messed up for me during the upgrade?

I've tried several DVD's. They all work in my MBP and Mac Mini without issue. The DVD's are not showing up in Windows Media Player and I even tried VLC player and they didn't play. I have a bunch of store-bought movies that I've been experimenting with so this isn't like I burned a DVD and did it wrong. Specifically, I attached a PC to the TV so that my SO can watch workout/yoga videos. The DVD's show up in Explorer and I can browse the files on them but not play them.

Windows 10 PRO.
AutoPlay isn't working in Windows 10.
The SETTINGS|DEVICES menu has it turned ON.
In Control Panel, it's turned on and configured to PLAY a CD.
It's not disabled in the Group Policy editor.
Neither of the two optical drives (a CD and DVD) will auto play either file type in Windows Media Player or MPC.
An MS level I tech made this statement:
"For this issue you can download Windows DVD Player available in the Store. Since WMP and MPC can no longer support CD / DVD autoplay."
While I understand that there's no native DVD player in Win 10, it strikes me that auto play should function nonetheless - using the default CD or DVD app. Or is the Windows tech correct?

What is the MapData folder which has recently appeared on my D drive? (This is the drive containing all my user folders with the exception of Pictures.) It contains subfolders diskcache, mapscache and files overrides.json, updater.nma

I just upgraded from 7 to 10, and I kept my D drive disconnected until the upgrade was done. Previously the D drive had only what I expected, but now there's a folder called systemprofile which is blocked (although I can choose to see what's there), and there appears to be nothing there.
I ran a search and didn't see anything about this specific problem. I can see that there's supposed to be a systemprofile folder under c:Windowssystem32, but it's not there. And I can't find anything that tells me just what this is.

A file named customrefresh.wim remains on my C: drive. 9 Gb big. I believe it is a leftover from windows 8.1. I suspect the folder was created by windows 8.1 in connection with creating a USB recovery drive for the 8.1 system. I should have erased it then, but forgot. Can I do it now?

Why I do this is unimportant. In Win 7, when I move my daily backup files (2 weeks worth about 20gb) from my current BU folder to my save BU folder, the move took a couple of seconds (I think because only the file pointers were changed.) Under Win 10, it takes in excess of 2 hours (I think there is a physical move of file data.) This is my third try since installing Win 10 on my (admittedly slow) server. Will renaming the files work?

I seem to have a problem trying to save file to my default Docs, vid and Pics folder on my C drive. I have attached a pic of what it says.I have changed the permissions to let me do this or am I looking in the wrong place? If I save the files to the desktop however and then move to the relevant folder it works fine.
