Networking :: Can't Connect To VPN When It Automatically Assigns IPs

Feb 10, 2016

I have a Windows 10 server with an incoming VPN connection created. Right now it specifies a range of IP addresses for the client to use. The alternative is to set it to have your DHCP assign the client's IP address instead. This is what I would like to do, but when I set the connection to ask like this, clients can't connect. On iOS and OS X they both say that they both cannot establish a connection to the VPN server.

My purpose for doing this is to allow all the clients to still browse the internet while connected to the VPN, which normally they cannot do (even when setting to send all traffic). I have to specify the DNS (my router's IP) on each computer, and on iOS this isn't working/possible.

Cannot Connect To Proxy Server - Automatically Detect Settings Turned On But Grayed Out

Sep 24, 2015

I recently upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7 and have been encountering problems since then. When I try to access any website using my mobile's hotspot all the browsers except firefox show the same message that is "Can’t connect to the proxy server".

So I went into proxy setting and saw that whole area was grayed out and at the top was a message saying "Some setting are managed by your organisation ". The first option in proxy settings is "Automatically detect setting" and it was turned on but because it was grayed out, I couldn't change it.Then I typed internet options in the search bar and clicked on it and a dialogue box appeared and in it I click connections tab and right at the bottom was a message saying "Some settings are managed by your system administrator.

I went into LAN settings and there too everything was grayed out and the automatically detect settings box was checked here too. This problem is not confined only to browsers but my in my Steam account I cannot update my games and also when I try to access news from the steam client it gives and error code.I did a bit of research about that code and found that it was related to proxy.Even my windows update is not working. Every time I try to update it it just stucks at 0% for hours.

Networking :: Automatically Disconnects From VPN Server

Oct 24, 2015

I am connecting to the VPN server with Windows 10 built-in provider using L2TP/IPsec protocol withusername/password and a Pre Shared Key. Everything is fine except the fact that every 1.5 hours it disconnects automatically. Then I have to go to VPN settings again and press the Connect button to connect to the VPN server.

My friend doesn't experience this problem while connecting to this VPN server from his MacBook. This is a very big issue, that can compromise the privacy of a user.

Networking :: Can't Connect To Network

Dec 4, 2015

Today, while having lunch at my favorite restaurant, I tried to connect to their WiFi network as I usually do. I got the following message:Checking network resources. And then, after a few seconds: Can't connect to this network. My obvious question is, why not? To begin with, was it something wrong with my computer, or something wrong with their network?

For example:

DHCP server did not respond
DHCP server did not issue an IP addressStored password incorrect; enter new password: _________
WiFi adapter card not respondingInsufficient virtual memory

But no, none of that useful information was offered. How am I supposed to fix the problem?

Networking :: Not Able To Connect To Some Networks

Oct 17, 2015

There are a few networks I cannot connect to and I'm not sure why. Most networks like the one I have at home, I am able to connect, however when I am at my friend's house or some cafe, it doesn't let me connect to the internet. I tried updating my drivers and it still doesn't connect. It was able to connect few months ago when I had windows 8.1 but when I upgraded to windows 10, I started facing these problems.

It doesn't tell me what to problem is either. It just says "Cannot connect to network"

Networking :: Cannot Connect Onto Homegroup

Jan 2, 2016

I have set up a Homegroup on two laptops which use Windows 10 and both connect to the Homegroup. However, neither will display any computers on the Homegroup.I have tried all sorts of things but all I seem to get from the Homegroup trouble shooter is that there are network problems. I have tried changing the advanced sharing options on both laptops to:

1. Turn on network discovery and ticking automatic setup ....
2. Turn on file and printer sharing
3. Allow windows to manage ....

Then clicking save changes. When I go back into the screen the radio button that I selected for turn on network discovery has been deselected and the turn off button selected. Nothing seems to make any difference!

Networking :: Can't Connect To Internet

Feb 10, 2016

Ever since I got my computer (which came with Windows 10), I've had trouble connecting to the internet. Every time I shut down and start it up again, it's never online even though I'm using a cat 5 cable hooked directly to the source. My laptop can connect wirelessly, so that's how I know my internet is fine, but it's a Mac (which I'm currently using) so it's a completely different OS.

Usually if I went into the command prompt and did ipconfig /release then /renew, it fixes it, and I'm online. But ever since doing a recent Windows Update that trick doesn't seem to be working anymore. I.E. ipv4 and ipv6 are enabled, tried turning off Firewall temporarily to see if that was the issue, tried uninstalling antivirus software.

Networking :: Cannot Connect On Ethernet

Jan 11, 2016

I cannot seem to connect on Ethernet though Wi-Fi works OK. I have seen several articles about ethernet problems with Win10.

CABLING
First the network config:

Two notebooks, C and D are plugged into a switch and the switch plugged into the router. Now, the cabling is verified to work because computer C, running Win7 connects just fine and if the internet cables are swapped, computer C still connects just fine.

Computer D however does not connect. I did some other things to redundantly check too, just FYI.
So cabling looks OK.

ROUTER
both computers have fixed (reserved) IP addresses in the router.
The router sees computer C
but not computer D
Just FYI, if I turn on Wi-Fi, the router sees D on WiFi, but not the ethernet.

PING
Computer C can ping D
Computer D can ping C
Computer C can ping the router
Computer D cannot ping the router

Some investigation suggested the following, all of which I tried with no better results:

- Update the network adapter drivers (already current)
- Winsock posible culprit, so NETSH WINSOCK RESET and reboot - no change

IE used to find and fix these things pretty well, but here we have EDGE. Perhaps I'll try to install IE. Connectivity diagnostics are where IE shined over Chrome and Mozilla.

UPDATE: IE 9, 10, etc. are not compatible with Windows 10. So, the connectivity diagnostics just not as good in Win10. I can tell I am getting tired, as it's getting hard not to swear.

UPDATE: Added a pretty picture.

Networking :: Cannot Connect To Internet

Feb 22, 2016

I upgraded to Windows 10 two months ago. Last week, I lost networking. I've scanned the posts and haven't found a solution.

Network troubleshooter says adapter might be the problem, device manager shows adapter working normally. Power saving not enabled. No VPN installed. Original adapter is Broadcomn NetLink Gigabit Ethernet.

Too late to roll back to Windows 7.

Installed new Realtek PCIe GBE Ethernet adapter that is Windows 10 compatible. Tried an old USB Netgear wireless approach.

Cannot connect desktop to network at all. All other tablets, laptops work fine.

Tried all suggested command prompts (netsh, etc).

Tried updating drivers by downloading to tablet and then transferring to computer.

Networking :: Cannot Connect To Another Computer

Nov 16, 2015

Have 4 computers & NAS on the "Workgroup" within a private network. Most are using static IP addressing, one is using DHCP.

Two are Windows 7 machines, two have been upgraded to Windows 10.

The "Network" on the windows 7 machines show everything including the windows 10 machines and the NAS.

Both of the Windows 10 machines show both of the windows 7 machines but not the other windows 10 machine nor the NAS.

The NAS can be connected to the windows 10 machines using the app even though they do not show up on the windows 10 machines "Network". (Not a real problem & has been addressed in other forums)

When ARP -a is run on any of the Windows 7 or 10 machines, all the other IP addresses are there including the NAS.

All of the machines can ping the other IP addresses on the network.

It would seem that something in the Windows 10 OS is not allowing the other Windows 10 machine to show up in "Network".

Windows 10 appears to be a great upgrade even without the network mapping feature that was in windows 7 nor showing the NAS.

Prior to upgrading the 2 windows 7 machines (now on windows 10) to windows 10, everything was working just fine. Four computers and the NAS were showing up in "Network" and connectivity was excellent.

Before I convert the remaining two Windows 7 machines to Windows 10, I must know just what is causing this issue and the solution. The inability to communicate between these two computers, if not solvable, is a deal breaker.

Networking :: Several Programs Cannot Connect To Internet

Nov 21, 2015

There seem to be a lot of these problems and they are posted all over.

Firstly most of my programs that were carried over from my windows 10 upgrade seem to have some form of internet connectivity problems, my browsers work completely fine, with the exception of internet explorer, which I think is the reason for the connectivity problems, it also seems that I cannot install java, that was a possible solution that came up in a different forum. error says: cannot install java with current internet settings. The other programs that have connectivity problems are steam, bluestacks and Microsoft office 365, and that it cannot verify my licence I am currently reinstalling it to see if this solves it. will post it here if it has been solved. I use to have comodo antivrus before upgrading to windows 10, I am unsure if there are any remnants of it hiding that is causing these problems.

Networking :: Cannot Connect To The Wireless Network

Dec 9, 2015

I started my PC in a new premises with a Wireless modem, I have two other PC's connected.

When I started the PC it saw the wireless network and the option came up to connect and there was a tick in the "Connect Automatically" box.

I selected OK but got a message "unable to connect".

I did not get the opportunity to enter the Password/Key.

Now the PC will not connect to the Network nor will and Diagnose and repair fix anything.

BTW the Ethernet adaptor has been disabled.

The laptop I am sending this from is next to the PC so the wireless signal is okay.

Networking :: Cannot Connect To Network Path On NAS

Feb 10, 2016

I have a Windows 10 Pro 64bit box as my NAS

Storage Spaces, ReFS, 2 drives mirrored
HomeGroup
HDD sleep on idle
Hibernate/Sleep disabled

My problem is when I typically save or open a file with the Windows file dialog on any Windows 10 machine, and I try to go to that machine through the network path //MyNAS/MyFiles, it initially gives me a cannot connect or find error. Is this due to the dialog not waking up the drives on the NAS? Something is obviously asleep here, and I usually end up opening Total Commander or Windows Explorer to "wake up" the connection and then everything works. I don't mind waiting, but I'd like the dialogs to hold tight until it connects, not give me not found or cannot connect.

We have a couple of laptops at home and they connect with password only no problem. It is only this laptop that requests both. I can find no way past it and cannot connect. It connects via cable fine but thats obviously not ideal for portable laptop.

Networking :: Workgroup Can't Connect To HTPC

Dec 13, 2015

I have 3 pc's in my LAN
Mark= Win7 32 bit
Dave= Win10 32 bit
HTPC = Win10 64 bit

I'm trying to share the files on HTPC and have created a workgroup.

Dave and Mark can share files
Mark and HTPC can share files

But Dave who can connect to the win7 pc through the workgroup can't connect to HTPC. Error is Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (HTPC). The computer or service you are trying to reach might be temporarily unavailable. If the device or resource is nearby and you have access to it, make sure it is turned on and connected to the network.

Since the win7 pc can connect to the win10 HTPC why can't the win10 pc?

Networking :: Unable To Connect To WiFi?

When I access the network settings, where the different sections are listed on the left-hand side, WiFi is not an available option.

Updating drivers Deleting drivers and then allowing the computer to reinstall A few different command prompt methods such as resetting the TCP stack, as well as trying some that were for people who upgraded from windows 7/8.

Networking :: WiFi Auto Connect

Oct 17, 2015

I have a PC out in my building and it runs off wifi, sometimes my modem shuts down and reboots but it will take like 5-10 minutes unless I go all the way back to the house and power cycle it. The problem is my windows 10 is set to auto connect to it but never does unless I click the wifi drop down list then it will reconnect, any application that tries to reconnect to a specific wifi more aggressively than windows 10 it gets annoying because if I need to use the pc I cant just look across the room to see if my modem is back.

Networking :: Can Connect To VPN But Can't Access Connected PC

Jan 19, 2016

I've scoured the web and pulled together enough info to enable me to create an incoming VPN connection on our dedicated P2P file "server" which runs Windows 8.1 Pro. On my Windows 10 Pro laptop, I've also created an outgoing VPN connection to the server. When I click the "Connect" button in "Network and Internet" Settings, the connection is established immediately with no error messages and a resulting status of "Connected". On the server side, the incoming connection also shows connected. Sounds like success, but no matter what I try, I can't find a way to actually access any of the drives/files on the server.

I expected the server to show up in the list of "Network" computers, thereby enabling me to map a drive to the shared folder(s), but no such luck. I made sure when I was creating the incoming connection on the server that I enabled "File and Printer Sharing", as well. Also, FYI, the server's WAN connection is on a static IP, and I've done the necessary port forwarding to the server's internal IP address. The one especially odd thing is that when I view the connection details on my laptop, it shows a subnet address of 255.255.255.255, and I don't have a clue whether or not that's correct. There's oddly little information that I can find that describes all of the possible entries that are required in the many and various dialogues that are presented while trying to setup the VPN.
