Networking :: Doesn't Recognize Ethernet
Nov 27, 2015
I ran Windows 8.1 on my desktop machine a few months ago, and later upgraded to Windows 10. Everything worked great at that time, but since have replaced Windows with Linux. Now I'm trying to install Windows again, with the same 8.1 disk that I used for my earlier installation, and my ethernet connection isn't found. (this is a direct wired ethernet, not wireless) I've installed with a local user account, dug into every networking utility in Windows, but whatever I do the internet goes undetected. I've run the ethernet thru different routers, and even circumvented the router all-together, but no luck. Has my 8.1 disk "expired"?

So... I just updated from win 7 to win 10, as I got it for free. All went smoothly, but there was no ethernet connection. I'm running a custom built pc, connected to my router via ethernet cable.
At first windows detected the cable, but said: ''Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration." I was on about around the settings, and deleted the ethernet network from windows' settings. I thought it would come back by just re-plugging the cable. This didn't happen. What happened was, that the whole 'Ethernet' tab disappeared from the 'Network & internet' menu!
I also don't have 'Wi-fi' or 'Airplane mode' tabs in the menu... Well I have a pc that doesn't have support for wifi so that might be why...
how to get win 10 to detect the ethernet cable, and maybe that way bring back the 'ethernet' tab?
Oh, and I tested the ethernet cable on my laptop (running win 7), and it worked fine.

Where to start so to begin with my issues started when we got a new router. We had issues with the old one so we installed a new router and got it working fine WiFi worked alright but Ethernet would not connect it my computer when I ran the troubleshooter said one or more network Protocols were missing from my computer I'm running windows 10 version 1511. I went on google on my laptop to start finding a fix and I must have tried every option in the book just about I am losing my mind over how to fix this. Finally I tried reinstalling the Network drive Uninstalling my current one going on google finding my most updated one ect. and now the issue is no longer about the protocols but its saying my Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration

8 hours ago my computer was connected via Ethernet and functioning fine during online gaming.
This morning approx. 4 hours ago I awoke to notice the computer updated and restarted during my sleep. Now the network icon has an exclamation mark and displays "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration."
WiFi functions fine. Other devices connect to WiFi fine. PS3 is wired to a different port on the router and functions fine, so attempted to change ports the laptop connects to, with no success. Bypassed the router completely and went just Ethernet straight, still will not connect via wired connection.
I have powered off the laptop, router/modem with no success in rectifying the issue.
Here is ipconfig all ---
Code:
Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.10240](c) 2015 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
C:WINDOWSsystem32>ipconfig allError: unrecognized or incomplete command line.
USAGE: ipconfig [/allcompartments] [/? | /all |
/renew [adapter] | /release [adapter] |
/renew6 [adapter] | /release6 [adapter] |
[Code] ....
I have checked network adapters and ensured drivers are up to date. Which they are.

Okay, so I input my USB drive; it doesn't detect any data and wants to reformat it, I decide to go ahead with it, but it simply says "windows can't format device E:". It does the same thing with my MSI drivers disk..

I'm having trouble to get picture on my main and only monitor when booting up. The green led indicator on the monitor is just flashing.
Usually I have to push the restart button 10-15 times until picture finally appears. Sometime I am able to log on in the dark. Hit space and logon, then do a win+p until picture appears.
I've tried to uninstall the drivers, but that didn't solve it. I had to use a different monitor to get in for the first time after that. Driver is the most recent one.

After receiving the W10 download, I installed a WD My Passport backup external drive. I made a system image backup and system repair disc of W7, and I backed up other files, and uninstalled & reinstalled BitDefender Total Security 2015. At first it seemed to run well or adequately, although slowly, notwithstanding that I had cleaned everything.
Then I discovered a message/warning from W10 that I should check the settings & do a backup, enable File History, that no usable drive was found, and to use an external drive for File History, and to connect a drive or use a network connection.
I googled all these issues to find answers/solutions: I checked in Device Manager, Computer Management, System Configuration. I was able to see that WD My Passport was displayed as running properly, with "healthy" status, with 866 GB of free space, and I could see it listed as in drive .
I think that I do not know "how to connect a drive or use a network connection." I clicked on "add network location, it opened to select a folder, I selected several, but none were acceptable, so I had to leave it the way it was, Network Location (1) My Media: Lizzie-PC.

I got a new Samsung SM951 M.2 PCI drive. I have a X99 motherboard but it didn't have the M.2 slot so I purchased an adapter to attach the drive and installed it into an open PCI slot.
When I first installed it and boot up under the current Windows 10, I could see the drive through Disk Management.
I disconnected the current Windows 10 version, put in the disk, booted up and selected the drive to perform a clean install. The initial copy and prepare for installation worked fine, then it needed to reboot and that's when I got the message:
Internal hard drive not found
No bootable devices
When I reconnected the old hard drive and booted up, I could see the install files on the new drive, but it just won't boot to it.
So, what do I need to do to get the PC to recognize this drive as bootable?

Recently I purchased a Logitech h151 headset which has only one single jack, as my ASUS laptop has only one jack used for a headset. However, upon connecting the headset, although the sound plays through it perfectly and without issue, the microphone doesn't seem to work.
I've tried multiple solutions - I went to the Realtek Audio Manager to try and find advanced options, as I read that a possible fix to this is to go there and select an option to separate all input jacks. However, I cannot seem to find advanced options anywhere. I have also entered the Sound section in the control panel, and under the microphone section my external microphone was not detected, even after showing all disabled devices.
As for the Realtek Audio Manager issue, I read of several solutions to make advanced options pop up - from updating the driver to completely uninstalling it and such. As you can probably understand, I would rather not result to such things as messing with the drivers, as I am not a tech-savvy person and will not be able to claw out of a technical hole should I get into one.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, the internal mic is being used and can be detected (of course).

I recently bought a new laptop with Windows 10. My previous laptop had Windows 7 and worked very well with my Brother MFC-J475DW Wireless Printer. I tried installing the driver for the printer from the original disk that came with the printer on the W10 laptop several times and kept getting a message that there is no printer. I went to the Brother website and downloaded the latest version of the driver and still get the same message. After some research I tried for the "built in" drivers, but with no success.

What I do know is that before I upgraded to Windows 10, there was always a box under (what is now) the heading "This PC". If I connected anything to the computer via a USB cable the computer would automatically recognize it and I would be able to transfer files.
Basically, I have a USB cable that I am using to connect my Samsung Galaxy S4 to my computer, an Acer Aspire. When I plug them into each other nothing happens. There is no pop-up window on my computer that even registers that the device is connected. I've tried multiple times to click the "This PC" button to see if the phone is connected, but it actually seems to be reading other devices around me and asking if I want to connect to them.
I would have used Cortana to ask, but unfortunately I'm having a serious problem with the fact that every single little thing I want to do from the desktop (you know, all the cool new apps or whatnot) requires me to sign into my microsoft account. Unfortunately for me, I created my account so long ago that the verification email they send your forgotten password to I have actually been locked out of because I don't know the password for that, and cannot have the security code sent to my phone since they have a very old number.

Very frustrated!! I had internet connectivity prior to windows 10 upgrade. The above message is what I am receiving. Network Center states: Unidentified network. I have done the following: Taken modem/surfboard, router and pc down gracefully then brought back onlineUsed windows troubleshooterread thru (and walked thru) dozens of forums with solutions to other "similar" issues**I have tried to connect directly from pc to modem. I get the same results. I have zero connectivity from my pc so I plan on using a thumbdrive if I need to reload drivers. I'm about to revert back to 8.1 and call it quits..

I updated to Windows 10 yesterday and after a few quirks I got it to running as normal, or so I thought. I use an Ethernet cable to connect to the Internet but all I get when I diagnose is "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration". It used to work fine before updating by the way. This is what I've tried
Restarted the computer
Turned off the computer, waited a few hours, then turned it on again
Unchecked IPv6
Re-installed the LAN driver
Tried a different ethernet cable
Tried to follow the tutorial on this website for Windows 8 for this issue but when I type ipconfig /release, it tells me that "an error occurred: an address has not yet been associated with the network endpoint"
Another thing I've noticed, when I enable the Ethernet connection, my computer skyrockets to exceedingly high temperatures (over 99C according to the monitor I have). When I disable it or disconnect it it goes back down to normal. Not sure why this is happening.
EDIT: Looks like the temperature only rises when I check IPv6

After I installed Windows 10 on my computer I cannot connect to internet through the ethernet port. I've tried everything. I get the message that "Ethernet Doesn't Have A Valid IP-configuration". I tried to reinstall the network driver, ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew as admin but it cannot find the "Default Gateway" and when I type ipconfig /renew it cannot connect to the DHCP server.

My laptop does not want to recognise the sound card/audio driver that are built into it. The fun part is this just happened. Audio played yesterday, and the time before that, and even before the upgrade. The only thing that has changed (or at least is the biggest change i can think of) is downloading and installing Cygwin (sans audio packages). In trying to play a song on the new microsoft Groove, i get this;
Further inspection in the playback devices, the only two options are the Speakers/Headphones and communications Headphones, the former of which i can only assume is my actual computer speakers (otherwise its completely gone!).Looking at the device manager, everything seems okay. All the drivers are up to date so im not sure what could be wrong there?
Its Windows 10 pro (upgraded from Win7 Pro) and the computer is a Dell Precision M4600. (I am pretty sure the audio driver is in the device manager image).

i recently updated to windows 10. I'm having some difficulties regarding internet through Ethernet on It. what usually happens is i am able to surf the Ethernet for around 10 minutes, then the ethernet adapter just quits on me. So i run the network trouble shooter and find you that it needs to reset the DNS, which it does successfully. After that my Ethernet doesn't work anymore till I restart the Laptop. my computer's wifi card is an intel wireless n 7260, and the other network adapter is a pcie gbe family controller.

So i recently updated to windows 10, and i noticed i wasn't connected to my Ethernet anymore, so i had to connect my PC to the wifi. Under my "network Adapters" it only shows "Qualcomm Atheros 802.11 1/b/g/n" I tried connecting another ethernet cable, but nothing happened.

I cannot seem to connect on Ethernet though Wi-Fi works OK. I have seen several articles about ethernet problems with Win10.
CABLING
First the network config:
Two notebooks, C and D are plugged into a switch and the switch plugged into the router. Now, the cabling is verified to work because computer C, running Win7 connects just fine and if the internet cables are swapped, computer C still connects just fine.
Computer D however does not connect. I did some other things to redundantly check too, just FYI.
So cabling looks OK.
ROUTER
both computers have fixed (reserved) IP addresses in the router.
The router sees computer C
but not computer D
Just FYI, if I turn on Wi-Fi, the router sees D on WiFi, but not the ethernet.
PING
Computer C can ping D
Computer D can ping C
Computer C can ping the router
Computer D cannot ping the router
Some investigation suggested the following, all of which I tried with no better results:
- Update the network adapter drivers (already current)
- Winsock posible culprit, so NETSH WINSOCK RESET and reboot - no change
IE used to find and fix these things pretty well, but here we have EDGE. Perhaps I'll try to install IE. Connectivity diagnostics are where IE shined over Chrome and Mozilla.
UPDATE: IE 9, 10, etc. are not compatible with Windows 10. So, the connectivity diagnostics just not as good in Win10. I can tell I am getting tired, as it's getting hard not to swear.
UPDATE: Added a pretty picture.

I was wondering if it's possible to utilize both WiFi and ethernet in tandem. I'm pretty sure some of you are going to tell me that I can only access the internet through one of these, up to my bandwidth limit, but that's not what I mean.
I'd like to access the internet through my WiFi connection, yet have a wired connection through my router to access the files on the other computers in my house.

I am running Windows 10 demo version. I have problems connecting to the net. I am shown the error along the lines of "Ethernet does not have a valid IP configuration".
From command prompt I run "ipconfig/all" and here is the console's output:
When I run "ipconfig/renew" it fell through : I should add, I have no problems on Windows Vista however.

I've been having problems with my network drives which seems to have happened after a recent Windows 10 'update'
In device manager I stupidly deleted a number of Windows adaptors under the Gigabit network connection.
Now I just have the Red Cross over the Internet icon.
Ive tried reinstalling Intel drivers but they stop at 'installing network drivers for Intel 82579v Gigabit network connection'
I then get a message 'cannot install drivers - No Intel (R) adaptors are present in this computer'
motherboard is is a Gigabyte X79 UD3 running F20 Bios. The network adaptor is onboard.
I can't seem to figure out why the computer can't detect the adaptor.
There is no ethernet controller in the device manager? And the network and internet page in settings does not give an Ethernet connection option?

i've been with this problem for months and i have tried multiple solutions offered by others on the internet, yet i'll give it another try here.
i'm using a powerline adapter directly plugged into the wall on my desktop. And it has worked excellent before, but suddenly someday it did not get a valid IP adress anymore for my pc, i have tried giving it an ip adress manually but without succes. i also tried updating the driver but there was no update.
my network and sharing center displays unidentified network and windows problem solver detects the problem 'network name' does not have a valid ip configuration.
