Networking :: Failure Accessing NAS Drive
Jan 17, 2016
I wasn't really sure what section to put this in since it could be security and/or network. The problem is I can see my NAS in file explorer and I can ping it fine and I can even access it via FTP but if I try to access it I get the following dialog box.
I did a little bit of searching but nothing worked and reverted my changes. This is a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro 64bit. The NAS is about 10 years old, it's nothing fancy and uses a Samba architecture.
Bottom line it'd be sweet if I could access this directly through windows instead of FTPing a file.

I have a networked Windows 10 Pro computer A with built-in 'Administrator' account disabled. However, it has a "normal" administrator account named 'Admin'.
I would like to access administrative share 'AC$' from another computer B in the network. Windows asks me for access credentials. I enter 'Admin' and the corresponding password. This results in "access denied" error.
Hence the question: What's preventing the access?
My guesses are
1. (Unlikely: ) Administrative shares are accessible to the built-in 'Administrator' only.
2. (More likely: ) Administrative shares are accessible to a designated set of users and there's a way to control it. My homemade 'Admin' is not on the list.
3. (Most likely: ) Network access to administrative shares is completely disabled by default in Windows 10, but can be enabled somehow.

I currently am running a windows 10 computer with a 1 Terabyte WD Black drive. I have a old computer with a windows XP hard drive that has documents I need to access. Is it possible to add the XP drive to a SATA port on my new PC to get those files? Or is not not that simple?
I know the alternative would be get monitor hooked up to the old PC and transfer files.

I just got a new computer with Windows 10 (Jury's still out) and am trying to access my Buffalo external hard drive from it (i believe it is a NAS. It lists on my desktop as LS-CHLD2F). I disabled windows media player cause I don't want to access it through that (screws everything up). I also installed the Buffalo disc on the new computer but that didn't seem to solve anything. I would like it to show up in my network but just don't know how to get it there and obviously don't want to reformat my hard drive. I just want it to be seen. All of my work is on there and need to access it as is.
Update: I am now able to access it from the desktop but still isn't showing up when I go to File Explorer then Network. It is a Linkstation.

Several PCs in my store.. some running W7 starter, some W10 Home pro.
A few days ago suddenly I could no longer access a folder on another W10 computer, where we tend to store a lot of important documents. The computer where the other folder is, runs also W10.
Shares are usually done vie HomeGroup - share with home group users.Other computers on the network have no problem accessing it. Furthermore, I can access it from another local account on my computer, but not from my main account (which is a MS account)..It asks for credentials, although I am a homegroup user.. nevertheless I enter the other computer's only username and password (admin ones) and it still does not let me in. Try my own MS user and pass - also "wrong".
Tried leaving and joining the Homegroup.
Tried restarting network related services and setting them on Automatic.
Tried homegroup troubleshooter - says probable problem is with network, so should run Network troubleshooter.
I do so and it shows error:This network troubleshooter shows error: resource (peer to peer grouping) is online, but not responding to connection attempts.
Following the latter and some google searches, I tried adding DisabledComponents" DWORD with "0"value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetservicesTCPIP6Parameters
But still NO-GO.

W10 has replaced my W7 operating system and I really like it. However if I have a main hard drive failure or somehow get in a situation where W10 won't start, how can I reinstall windows 10? What do I need to do before something like this happens?

I am trying to set up our server which we have on my sisters new laptop. when I go to 'map network drive' and click 'browse' the server called 'BGE-B-NAS' doesn't appear on the list. I have tried multiple times and nothing seems to be working. I also tried to type it in manually but it just said that 'windows cannot access BGE-B-NASCompanydata'. Is it to do with the fact that this is a laptop and it is using the wifi instead of being wired?

My daughters hard drive was failing, so I used SystemRescueCD to pull everything from the drive to another one. The problem I am having is getting permission to access her user folder on the drive. It denies me access and directs me to the security tab to get permission, but when I try this, it starts giving me errors from corrupted files in that folder, and won't give me permission. I also tried using this program: [URL] .... but it still asks for permission. Is there a way around this to access the files to see if I can pull off any uncorrupted ones?

I migrated from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I then found that I had access to 3 web browsers - Edge, Chrome and IE 11.
However, whilst I could access web pages from Edge, I could not access those same pages [in fact ANY pages at all] from Chrome or IE. I just got messages saying the pages were not accessible. My immediate suspicion was some sort of firewall problem, so I turned off the firewall, but the problem persisted. I re-installed Chrome, but that made no difference either. I rebooted the PC, but the problem was still there. I also noted that my VOIP phone application was unable to reach the Web.
It seems very odd that one application [Edge] seems to have full Web access, while three others have none at all.
I cannot think of any setting that would deny access to some apps, but not others. I did check the firewall setting for Chrome, and it said it was giving the application full access.
What might be causing this selective denial of Internet access. Does Edge monopolise the access and somehow exclude the others?!

With W8.1, when I plugged my phone (Samsung Galaxy S5) into my PC via USB, a box came up with an option to find pictures and video on the phone.
Now with W10 that option does not come up, nothing comes up but it the phone shows in explorer as a hard drive.

I got a new laptop in December 2015 that came with Windows 10. It is currently running version 1511 10586.104. I have updated the BIOS and graphics driver, all are current from the mfg. I have had an ongoing problem with applications crashing when they access the file system. When uploading images to my website using Chrome, when uploading images to Facebook, when importing or opening files in CorelPhotoPaint x7. The problem does not happen every time. I can upload 10 or more images before it happens. When it does, the application crashes when I click to select the file to open.

I can see that this seems to be a common problem on here! I have a Lacie cloudbox NAS drive. On WIn7 pro it worked just fine. Windows say the drive in the network group and I could access it like a normal folder.
After I did the Win10 upgrade and it initially worked fine. For other reasons I had to do a fresh install of WIn10 and wipe the hard drive and start from scratch. Ever since then I've not been able to access my NAS drive.
For privacy reasons, during the installation, I turned off many of the sharing and 'open' features of Win10 and always log in with a local account.

"My Documents" has been correctly relocated from C: to E:. The C: drive was getting full. Using the PC, all is well.
The network is fine and my laptop sees the PC, and PC sees the laptop.
However, when I click my [Username] folder on the PC from the laptop, the folders I see are on the C: drive, not the E: drive.
How do I make my [Username] folder on drive E: accessible over the netork?
Other family members/usernames whose files are on the PC's C: drive exclusively have no problem accessing them from their laptops or phones.
The laptop is Win7 and the PC Win10 Pro. The phones are both Android and iOS.

Drive C: on a new win10 laptop is marked Shared for Everyone, read+write+control (because it will hold a webserver and database server that must be manageable from other workstations in the workgroup).
Yet win10 refuses access to a map-network-drive request from File Explorer run as administrator on any win7 machine in the same workgroup.

my Windows 10 Enterprise PC cannot access to my company's network storage at 10.63.0.250. In the previous edition like windows 7 or 8, I can access easily by enter 10.63.0.250 in the Address box in File Explorer or in Run windows (Window button + R). However, I have got trouble since I upgraded to Window 10. The notification is "The network path was not found", although I can ping to this and another PC can access the network storage in File Explorer.

Have a little problem viewing files on my NAS drives.I'll got a couple of NAS drives on my home network that I use for backup, storage and coping files between my computers.Ended up with a windows 10 laptop the other day and I wanted to transfer a file from my desktop to my laptop, so I just dropped the file onto my NAS drive and then turned my laptop and went to the NAS drive to get the file only to find I couldn't see any files on the NAS, only three folders "Pictures" " Music" and "Videos"
Been playing around trying to work it out for the last week but no luck, I tried to copy a file from the laptop to it but I can't do that either.Sure it must be some setting but I can't seem to find it, tried searching but I'm missing the keyword, only finding people with problems seeing there NAS drive.I should add that I can see pictures and music files if I open the "Pictures" or "Music" directory but I can't see another other soft of files (.txt .iso .exe ect).
