New to windows 10, I have 2 accounts both in family.When I log into my account and open File explorer, I can see all the programs copied across from my previous PC, e.g. music, pictures etc., however, when my wife logs into her account, and opens file explorer the folders are all empty. How do we share common files on a single PC using file explorer and not a network or OneDrive?

I need to share a window on my Windows 10 PC via VNC (to an Android device). UltraVNC says it can share a single window, but I can't get their VNC server to do this, only the entire Desktop.

I can set an alias in the hosts file on a win7 machine and access it just fine but doing the same in Win10 prompts for creds that never work even when entered correctly. What did win10 change?
hosts file entry:
127.0.0.1 hostname alias
ip - works fine
hostname -works fine
alias - Prompts for creds and creds don't work
I have gone to the extent of fully disabling UAC from reg, same outcome. Network and file sharing is set to password access and not homegroup. Simple file sharing is off.
Something to note. I always disable ipv6 form the adapter but when I ping my hostname it shows the ipv6 loopback. Why is that? When I ping the alias it returns 127.0.0.1 ipv4 loopback that was entered in the hostname.
I have 2 laptop with windows 10 pro 64bits on my network how can I make it can send any files to each other ?
View 1 RepliesI've got a LAN in my home/office with 5 machines now running Win 10 and I've not been able to transfer files between them due to "permission problems". These were all running Win 7 and sharing files with no problems but now I'm blocked. I've made every "advanced" change I can think of to networking and sharing screens and to firewall screens. The machines can see each other in File Explorer but "access denied" on transferring anything but vanilla homegroup folders. Need to get some insights on "permissions".
View 7 RepliesUnder the Network tab of File Explorer, I can see three entries, one of which is my router (with attached Hard Drive) and two computers, each running Windows 10. When I expand the router entry, I can see my hard drive files. I can also see my Users icons when I expand one of the computer's tabs. However, when I click on the other computer's name to search for users, all I see is a message that "This folder is empty". In fact, the folder is not empty, as there are two users on the computer. How I can get this computer to show users, etc.?

These files will appear in my recent list when opening File Explorer (Win+E). The problem I have is at home where that network path is not accessible, and the File Explorer window will HANG for minutes trying to find the file. I can get around it by running CCleaner and cleaning recent files, but I was wondering if there was something else that could be done where I don't have to wipe out my recent list?

In Folder Options View Tab I have Show hidden files, folders, and drives enabled. In Folder Options Search Tab I only have Include System directories checked.
In C:UsersUserNameAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsThemes I have many files whose name contains Arkham.
If I click on This PC in the Navigation Pane and then type Arkham in the search box, I get No items match your search. What do I need to change so that the search will find these files. Ultimately I would like search to find any file on This PC whether it be system, hidden, or read only. I don't need for search to look in compressed archives (just the archive name).
As the title says I am unable to "see" my NAS in windows explorer. I was able to use explorer to view/add/delete files on my NAS a few weeks ago but now now cannot even see the NAS in the network section.
Funny thing is that I am able to ping the server and even login to the GUI via IE and firefox. But i can't get the media files.
I am currently running the evaluation copy of Windows 10: Details:
- Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview
- version 1511
- OS build 10565.41737
- 64Bit
- Intel i&-2600 CPU with 24GB of RAM
I have tried the follow to correct the issue with no success:
- Rebooted windows 10 machine (several times)
- Rebooted Router (Actiontec V2000H)
- Rebooted NAS (FreeNAS 9.3)
- ipconfig /flushdns
- change from using PIN to password
- Change from password to PIN
- using regedit added the AllowInsecureGuestAuth = 1 to the registry.
Notes on NAS:
using Freenas 9.3, ZFS volume, enabled CIFS shares. do not require login to access media files (or any files). The server only has media files on it so no password required or enabled.
Notes on Network:
- The network is hardwired with Cat 5e cable (except for wireless printer)
- Windows 10 explorer is able to "see" other windows machines (windows 7 and 8), an Linus Ubuntu 14.04 machine, router (Actiontec V2000H, printer (wireless), AV receiver,
- the windows 7/8 machines are able to access the media files on the NAS with no issues and are able to see the windows 10 machine.
- the ubuntu 14.04 machine is able to access the media files on the NAS with no issues and is able to see the windows 10//8/7 machines on the network.
I like windows 10 but it will be a show stopper if I cannot access my NAS from this Windows 10 machine.
I have encountered this problem (in thread line) for the past 3-5 days and I have come no closer to any solution during that period of time.Basically, as soon as I left click or right click on a file in Windows Explorer it will crash. My Windows icon in the bottom left has also stopped working and I cannot ask Cortana anything (not that I did anyway...).
None of the advanced boot options work either (system restore, clean install etc...).
Every time I open file explorer it displays my recent files. I would like to turn this feature off. If I can't find my own files without recent files, you can have my computer.

Well they will not have to worry about their EMAIL either. If email arrives Win 10 will never notify them, action center, sound and banner notifications never work.
Naturally the Mail App live tile only displays for 10 minutes if at all.
I am running File Explorer in Windows 10 and it displays some files and folders In a portable (F) that I cannot delete. When I try it says "This is no longer located in F:. I have hit F5 to refresh, rebooted and even ran defrag to eliminate this problem. It does show a file size for the files located in these folders. I have also installed LockHunter software to delete these folders and files; it didn't work. It says "no processes locking this file have been found", and "Cannot delete file..." I have another program called Directory Lister that also finds these files. I also have tried accessing them using C Prompt, which will display the folders and files but cannot be used to delete them.

View 4 RepliesI have been having issues with my WD MyCloud NAS not showing up under Network on the left navigation pane of File Explorer. I am able to access the NAS by entering the host name (WDMYCLOUD) in the address bar in File Explorer. I was able to find a solution that fixes this and makes my NAS appear in Network as expected. The solution involved running Command Prompt as Admin, executing some commands, then restarting the computer.
What I would like to do is automate this process by creating a batch file that will:
Open Command Prompt as AdminAutomatically enter specific commandsClose Command PromptRestart the computer
My new laptop has Windows10 pre-installed. It crashed and file explorer won't now show recent files. It seems to be showing recent folders but there are no recent files. Settings/personalisation/start shows "recently opened files" is turned "on" and File Explorer is showing on the Task Bar....
View 1 RepliesWhen I launch file explorer and get the home view, it is showing a bunch of filenames in Chinese characters (see attached screenshot) which it says are in the desktop folder. However there are no such files when I look at the desktop folder. I just ran MalwareBytes and it didn't find anything.
View 3 RepliesI installed Windows 10 last week as an upgrade from Windows 7, and the internet part is working good. But something with the file explorer didn't work. The Document, Pictures, Music, and Video files are still there, but the thumbnails load slowly, or not at all. If it means anything, there's a green bar that slowly moves across the top of the screen.

If I search within a folder for say *.* and then delete a file, the list of files does not refresh.
The file remains listed even though it's been deleted.
If I manually refresh then the file disappears from the list. Same thing happens if I undo the delete.
I need to hit F5 to make the file reappear in the search list.
I want to move pictures I have taken with my Windows 10 Tablet to an external usb. I can copy them one at a time, but I would like to be able to select several picture by hitting the ctrl key or the shift key, but when I bring up the on screen keyboard, that does not work. Is there a solution for tablets?
View 5 RepliesI'm on a Windows 10 Pro PC accessing a linux server with samba etc installed and working well (visible via Homegroup to both Android and Windows 7 pro). From the Win 10 box, if I type the name of the server in Windows File Explorer, then the shares from the server show up without issue. However, if I go into the Network folder, it does not see the linux servers - even though they are correctly configured for the correct homegroup. My windows 7 machines can see the servers in "network" as can my android devices.
Here's a screenshot. Note, the red arrows show what displays in Network folder (red arrows). If I click on the Server Name (HunterNAS in this case), the server shares are displayed and it shows up in the Network folder (blue arrows). Even after making the successful connection, display of another file explorer window > Network folder displays no linux server shares...
Latest (preview) build - file explorer not showing progress when copying / moving files.
This - unless fixed soon will cause me to revert to previous build. Is it just something with my update. (W10 Pro X-64).
When selecting a file in Windows Explorer and clicking the 'Share' Button, no application/action is ever available on the right pane. Any success with this function ?
View 2 RepliesI had Windows 7 on the main computer at home. The printer was attached to that computer, with sharing turned on. Other computers in the house, some upgraded to Windows 10 and some not, could all use the printer. Now i have upgraded that desktop to Windows 10, and no one else can print to the printer.
