Networking :: LAN Network Slow Speeds?

Feb 10, 2016

Currently have a WiFi network setup for internet. Both computers connect to the router via WiFi Dongles. Which is running no problems.

Each computer is then plugged into a network switch (cheap 4 port stand alone unit) via Ethernet cables (gigabit ports) and into the switch I have also have a WD My Cloud.

Having various issues, such as unidentified network, network being defaulted back to public, the ip addresses I have assigned being reset to obtain automatically and only getting transfer speeds of 3MB/s

Running windows 10. No home group/work group setup, have 1 drive on the other computer shared and mapped as a network drive.

Networking :: Slow Internet Speeds Since Installing SSD

Jan 24, 2016

A few weeks ago I installed a SSD into my desktop and installed Windows 10 on it. I never checked my speeds at the time so I'm not sure exactly when my download speeds started to be terrible, but I assume it was then. Other computers on the network get the proper download speed (which is supposed to be anywhere from 30mbps to 50mbps on Time Warner Cable) where mine will get anywhere from 19 to .6 mbps.

The upload speed however doesn't fluctuate as badly. I've reinstalled my wifi drivers, I've also tried to use my old usb wifi dongle to see if it was the card in any way, but I still had the same speeds. My card was getting the proper speeds prior to my fresh Windows install so I can only assume either I've done something wrong driver wise (which I can't seem to track down) or maybe it's a hardware issue I introduced by installing the SSD. Either way, I'm lost as to how to fix it. And one suggestion I cannot do, unfortunately, is hook my computer directly to the router.

Drivers/Hardware :: Slow SSD Speeds With Intel 520 Series 240GB?

Feb 23, 2016

I'm using Win10 x64 and Intel 520 240GB SSD:

For my mobo, Asus P8Z77-V-Deluxe, I downloaded the official asus chipset drivers.

There is one for Win8.1 x64 and a Beta version for Win10.

The chipset driver for Win8.1 has installed the following:

1. under Device Manager> IDE ATA/ATAPI controller > Inter 7 series/C216 chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller

2. Version 12.8.0.1016 - Date 2013/08/01

If I install the Asus Win10 chipset driver, then instead of the Inel SATA controller, I'll end up having Standard SATA controller by Microsoft.

I'm currently using the Asus beta Win10 chipset driver, however I manually installed the Intel SATA controller which is officially supported on Win8.1 and is digitally signed.

I ran two SSD benchmark test with AS SSD (latest version).

With just the official Win8.1 chipset driver as mentioned above, I'm getting the following results:

With the Win10 beta chipset driver and the Standard SATA controller by Microsoft:

And here are the test results made by Intel SSD 520 Series Solid State Drive | Intel,SSD,520 Series,Solid State Drive,SSDSC2CW240A3,Benchmarks,Performance,Reviews,Olin Coles,Intel SSD 520 Series Solid State Drive SSDSC2CW240A3 Benchmark Performance Review by Olin Coles

Can spot the difference?

Networking :: Full Link Speed But Half Download Speeds

Feb 23, 2016

I have a peculiar issue with wifi on Windows 10. My computer shows a wifi link speed of 270 Mbps and i have tested the same by sending huge files over my network. Now the issue is that i strongly believe that something in Windows 10 is throttling the internet speeds drastically. I am only getting half of the subscribed download speeds on my Windows 10. I have other devices/phones connected to the same wireless network and they are getting full speeds!

I have tried several things but i am unable to achieve full download speeds on my Windows 10. This has been affecting me for the past around 15 days. Prior to that things used to be normal.

WiFi Connection Speeds Have Gotten Worse

Jun 23, 2015

So i updated to the preview last week, since then, my wifi connection speeds have gotten worse..Perhaps it is a coincidence, but i dont think so since i still pull pretty good speeds on my iphone, but on my lenovo all in one, speedtest it is like 2 mbps. Average Homegroup Transfer Speeds?

Sep 30, 2015

What are average home-group transfer speeds? I feel like mine is slower than it should be, but I have nothing to compare it to. From one Windows 7 machine to a Windows 10 machine, transferring a video file over wifi, I'm averaging anywhere from 300 kbps to 1 mb.

According to Speedtest.net, I have a 4.37MBps download speed, and 2.22 mbps upload speed.

Networking :: Very Slow Internet After Upgrade To 64bit

Feb 10, 2016

I just upgraded from Win 10 32 to Win 10 64 bit and my internet connection is very slow, about 20/30 kb/s. It was a fresh install, deleted everything and reinstalled from scratch. I have looked on the forums and cant find a solution that works, I've checked the network adapter drivers for my wireless and they're up to date. I've troubleshooted the problem and they said something was wrong with the network configuration which was solved, but still no change in the internet speed. I've got broadband and should be downloading at hundreds of kb/s.

Networking :: Browser Downloads Over WiFi Are Super Slow

Dec 9, 2015

I have a PC with Windows 10 Build 10586, upgraded from 8.1.

WiFi downloads are very slow on it for some reason. SpeedTest.net shows 15 MBPS, but while download a simple 5 MB image file via Chrome takes 45 minutes. Max download speed is 15 KB/s.

But when I keep softwares like AutoDesk Revit for download through their own downloaders, it gets 1 MB/s download speed.

So why is downloading via Chrome or other browsers and some other software so slow?

Networking :: Suddenly Slow Access To Server Folders

Jan 5, 2016

I upgraded my PC from Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) to the Windows 10 'replacement', which is Win10 Professional (64-bit). All went extremely well, no problems, the Windows 'upgrade' retained my settings, all 'mapped' network drives were there, everything was totally great. I easily accessed, created and and saved new documents to folder locations on the server with no 'hesitation' whatsoever.

HOWEVER... SUDDENLY, within the past eight to ten days, where I once had virtually 'immediate' access to shared folders on our aging Windows Server 2003, I now seem to be required to 'wait' for upwards of 8-10 seconds before folders on the server are 'accessible'. For instance: I'm setting up this year's 'fiscal year' folders for my business invoices on the server. As I attempted to create these folders, I had to 'wait' to be able to 'see' and then be able to access the 'Invoices' folder on the shared drive. Then (as I always have done) I 'right-click' within this folder to create the new folder for FY2016 and once again, it takes 8-10 seconds to be able to create this folder, but eventually this is successful. Then I created 'sub-folders' within this folder (IE: "QTR 1") with no delays..

But then in creating a sub-folder within this sub-folder (IE: 01-JAN), there's the same 8-10 second delay. Continuing on with the creation of folders through the full year, SOME are created immediately - OTHERS suffer from this same 'delay'. It is almost as if my PC must 're-negotiate' with the server - determining 'rights' (?) - I dunno, but it truly frustrates me.... I know full well that I MUST replace this old server OS, since Server 2003 is 'dead', but - well, I simply haven't taken the time. Time is money - and I don't have enough... so you know what gets 'first efforts'.

But since I have been operating like this since BEFORE Windows XP was even released (albeit, yes, on a Windows NT Server, back then) with nothing even resembling this 'hesitation' ... Why now, after this 'mandated' upgrade to Windows 10, is this 'hesitation' appearing in simply accessing what was once practically "immediate'..? The whole network is all CAT-5 'gigabit' Ethernet: both of the switches are gigabit, server connection is gigabit, my PC is gigabit, cripes even the NAS is gigabit (yet another 'storage location' on the network...) and where the NAS was 'slower' earlier, it is now 'faster' to access and store on the NAS instead of the Windows Server.

Networking :: Internet Speed Slow On One Computer But Fine On The Rest Of Computers

Nov 2, 2015

I just updated to Windows 10 but I think the problem was with Windows 8 too, Sometimes my internet is out on my PC while the internet is still up on my brothers PC, tho this problem happens about 3 times a very few days.. We have 5+ computers in the house and 4 are on daily while 3 is being used daily the 4th one is not very used daily and sometimes off most of the time. So the 2 computers have Windows 10 and 3rd computer has Windows 7 while the 4th computer has Windows 10 also. I read on an article which says that Windows 10 uses bandwidth without you know and I checked task manager and on windows 8 my CPU and Memory was just fine and when I upgraded to Windows 10 my CPU spiked to about 20% and Memory spiked to about 72% and sometimes random numbers appear on all 4 sections( CPU, Memory, Disk, Network).

Networking :: Can't Connect To Network

Dec 4, 2015

Today, while having lunch at my favorite restaurant, I tried to connect to their WiFi network as I usually do. I got the following message:Checking network resources. And then, after a few seconds: Can't connect to this network. My obvious question is, why not? To begin with, was it something wrong with my computer, or something wrong with their network?

For example:

DHCP server did not respond
DHCP server did not issue an IP addressStored password incorrect; enter new password: _________
WiFi adapter card not respondingInsufficient virtual memory

But no, none of that useful information was offered. How am I supposed to fix the problem?

Networking :: Connecting 2 PCs Without Network

Mar 5, 2016

I have a desktop PC running Win7 64Bit Ent. It's not actually in use, so nothing is connected. I also have a laptop running Win10 64Bit which I'm using to type this post. I have some audio files on my desktop that I'd like to pull off of there, and put them on my laptop, and then maybe on a cloud. My 1st question: Is it possible to simply use a USB cable between 2 USB 3 ports if I simply power up the desktop with the USB cable connected? Does the USB protocol provide for me to see those HDD's on the desktop via the laptop? I'm quite limited for physical space, and I don't need the desktop to be running permanently, I just need to get these files off of it. If that's NOT a solution, what is the next easiest method?

Networking :: Can't See Other Computers On Network

Jan 4, 2016

I have two Win 7 computers on my wired network and 6 Win XP computers on this same network. This main computer was Win 7 and just upgraded to Win 10 in November. For a year this network has worked just fine, plug and play basically when I set it up, now after Christmas shutdown (2 weeks), I can't see any of the computers on this network. The only thing I can see is the media drive on a computer called 6Head2. All I really do is transfer files from this main computer out to those 8 other computers.

What is wrong with my computer? Network discover, file sharing all checked, network location was changed from Public to Private today by me. But it did work last year, even with the network location being public.

Networking :: Can't Access Network

Jan 10, 2016

I have a home network that includes-Two Windows 7 PCsTwo Linux machinesA Brother MFC7820N networked multifunction printer..All the above are on wired connections. Then there's an 802.11n wireless link for laptops and media devices.I'm just setting up a new machine that's running Windows 10 Home, using the wireless network. I was annoyed to find that Brother don't have a full-function Windows 10 driver for the 7820N that supports scanning, but the Brother site says the built-in drivers in Win 10 should work for basic printing.

Problem: I successfully added the printer device to Windows 10 (at the 3rd attempt) using the "manual advanced" method. The printer has an entry in the hosts file, and was added by host name. The printer fails to print, with a "not responding" type message. The driver also can't pick up the status info from the printer.

What's really weird is-I can ping the printer from the W10 box (and the other machines) by either IP address or hostname. However, this printer has a web interface. I can access this from any of the Windows 7 machines, but the Windows 10 machine says "web site failed to respond" or somesuch. This happens with any of: Edge, IE11, or Chrome browsers.I can't even make a manual connection (telnet to port 80) from the Win 10 machine (timeout). The Windows 10 machine CAN access all the other devices on the home network, including the web servers (Apache) on both the Linux boxes.

This looks like the web access to that particular address is being blocked somehow. I have tried disabling my AntiVirus package (Kaspersky), but that makes no difference. Is Win10 perhaps detecting an "old" web server on the printer and refusing to talk to it? (and why would that prevent printing using lpd?)

Fixed. Updated drivers worked. Just had to restart a couple times for it to work.

Networking :: Can't See Network Printer

Feb 10, 2016

I have a USB connected printer (HP F4100) on my Windows 10 desktop. Everything appear to be working as I have no issue accessing the printer remotely on my Windows 7 laptop. The issue is trying to access from my Windows 10 laptop. I can see the shared workgroup in explorer, but no sign of the shared printer.

How to troubleshoot this? I've gone through the basics such as disabling Windows Firewall, but no luck. Everything looks fine in the advanced sharing settings and as mentioned, things are fine from my Windows 7 machine.

My impression of Windows 10 is not great so far. This along with my machine rebooting due to a security patch even though I had "Notify to schedule restart" selected. The whole mandatory security updates kind of irks me. I kind of get it, but as a power user, I should have the choice. Especially with the amount of sketchy patches that MS has released over the years.

Networking :: No Network Connection

Mar 5, 2016

I have Windows 10 laptop hooked up to an ethernet connection which has been working well for the past 6 months. On 2/18/16 it stopped working. I traced the problem to the Qualcomm Atheros network Controller/ Killer E2200 Gigabit Ethernet Controller: Internet status > IPv4 Connectivity: No network connection IPv6 Connectivity: No network connection Clicked: diagnose --> System checked & reset, with IPv4 Connectivity and internet access restored.

This resolved the problem until 3/4, following a Windows 10 update. The above solution no longer works. Clicking 'Disable this net work device' and then enabling it again restores IPv4 Connectivity and internet access for a limited time but loading a new site or page is slower than it was prior to the emergence of this problem on 2/18, and then the connection is again lost after maybe 10 to 20 minutes.

Networking :: Possible To Assign Static IP For Each Network?

But when I try joining another network let's say network #2 with a router address like 192.168.43.1 i have to change network settings and use another static IP 192.168.43.10

Can't i just ask windows to use static IP 192.168.1.110 when i try to connect to network #1 and 192.168.43.10 when I connect to network #2 without having to manually configure it every time ?

I really have to use static IPs when connecting to those two particular networks...
