I am trying to set up our server which we have on my sisters new laptop. when I go to 'map network drive' and click 'browse' the server called 'BGE-B-NAS' doesn't appear on the list. I have tried multiple times and nothing seems to be working. I also tried to type it in manually but it just said that 'windows cannot access BGE-B-NASCompanydata'. Is it to do with the fact that this is a laptop and it is using the wifi instead of being wired?
When I try to save to local C drive (Documents) I get an error:
"SAVE AS ... You don't have permission to modify files in this network location. Contact the administrator per [sic] permission to make these changes."
I have looked at the C drive and can see no obvious issues, e.g. 'read only' is not set.
I don't have the ability to print documents I open from my files or from e-mails. If I right click the only option that shows up is to "save as". I have tried to put the printer icon in my tool bar but it is dark and doesnt function.
Both the Windows 10 laptop and the Windows Vista laptop have discovery on and file and printer sharing on. The printer is connected to the Windows Vista laptop. The Windows Vista laptop can see the files within the Windows 10 laptop. The Windows 10 laptop can see the Windows Vista computer but as soon as it tries to see inside it gives an error about "spelling of the name, etc." If using the diagnosis tool it says "One or more network protocols are missing from this computer". "Resolving problems as administrator" does not solve anything.
hard disk of a laptop with windows 10 used as external USB drive to another laptop and it workded but there are some problems that display is poor and shows windows is not activated but in my previous samsung laptop it was activated when i downloaded it freely from Microsoft. Other things are going smoothly till now.
I have a laptop running Windows 7 that is connected to a printer. I am connected to the internet using a WiFi connection. I have a homegroup called workgroup. My wife has a laptop running Windows 7, connects to the internet using the same WiFi modem and prints using the printer on my laptop.
I downloaded Windows 10 on to my Windows 7 laptop and all of a sudden my wife can't print anymore. Microsoft, you've done it again. How I hate this!
I fooled around with HomeGroup settings on the Windows 10 laptop and the system attributes on my wife's laptop and now I can see her computer on my Windows 10 system. But I cannot see the printer on my system from her laptop.
I tried to click on my compueter from her laptop and I get a request for username and password. I don't know what username and password to use. I gather from reading the forum that I should put the name of my laptop in the username but I don't know where to look for the password.
My laptop doesn't boot because OS is on E: drive instead of C: drive
When I try to boot it up (it somehow boots up as windows 8.1 instead of my OS windows 10), it gives a BSoD and shows the error code 0xc000021a. I created a bootable USB drive with windows 10 pro on it, but it shows my OS as windows 8.1 instead of 10, and it doesn't allow me to restore or do a startup repair, because they both fail.
I am using Word 2013 on my laptop. Windows 8 was operating system. Recently upgraded to Windows 10. When I save Word documents now, they are saved as Wordpad documents. (.xml files) Wordpad does not recommend some of the Word formatting and alters the documents.
How do I correct this? I want the save as Word documents, as I did in the past.
I've trying out the new preview, 10240. Everything works fine except for the default documents folder (and the same for Images). As my screenshots reveal, by default the documents and images folder are the ones with OneDrive. (My system is in Spanish, but it seems self-explanatory, I believe)
After some examination, I located the "Storage" section in the new settings window and I see that the default folder for Documents is OneDrive. However, after I set to "This PC (Drive C)" it doesn't do anything, as as soon as I close the window, the option reverts back to OneDrive.
I actually like and use OneDrive, and I had no problems with it with Win8.1. So I don't want to disable it.
I am having trouble getting RDP to work on my PC. I have checked everything. But I can RDP from my PC to my laptop.
I have on both laptops a password, (I do have the same username, could that conflict?) I have on both PC's the latest W10 update (10586) and I can ping both PC's to eachother. I have disabled my second network card on my PC but still nothing.
How do I boot from dvd drive on HP laptop? According to Google it says press esc repeatedly and then f9. I did this and it did not work so I went into the BIOS and changed boot order to cd/dvd drive at the top but it will not boot do I have to press another key?
Ok, I bought a 2tb Seagate external drive which I swapped in my ps4, and took the 500 gig drive out of the ps4 to use as my external drive for my laptop.
But, my problem is, is that when I put in the usb cord to connect my external hard drive to my laptop, it lights up, but it doesn't show up anywhere on my laptop. I've done the disc management, and nothing is showing up as well.
My laptop is an HP Pavilion g, came with windows 7 64bit, but did that upgrade for windows 10 64 bit. Why it wont show up on my laptop.
I have a laptop with a retail copy (bought from store) of windows 7 home premium installed on it.
I just bought a new SSD drive that I want to replace with the HDD drive that's currently in the laptop.
Now to get Windows 10 on that SSD drive after I swap it do I need to first install my windows 7 home premium onto it then upgrade to Windows 10 , then do a clean install?
So I dont currently have a USB drive, however I have the ISO files for windows 10. I want to install Windows 10 on a gaming PC im going to build in a few hours. All I got to work with is a 2-Sided USB Cable and a second laptop. Is there any way I can create say a virtual USB drive on my laptop, then mount windows 10 on it and plug that laptop into my new computer to install windows 10?
I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and was happy with the new OS but lately I have been having issues with the Wi-Fi since it disconnects randomly several times during the day. It seems to "turn off" on its own and comes back up after a while. It's annoying and I didn't have this issue with OS 8.1. If possible, I'd like to solve the problem. I've thought about reverting back to 8.1 but I've misplaced the key and it's not in a sticker underneath either so I can't really do that now. The option that most people show by going to 'Recovery' doesn't work because it says the 'necessary files have been deleted' so I can't proceed that route anymore.
My network is really simple. A win10 laptop and a win10 desktop. The desktop has a couple of hard drives and the laptop needs to see one of them.
At various times it's all been good but then something mysterious happens and we're back to square one.
So I've set up a homegroup and both computers belong to itI've set up sharing so that the homegroup can read/writeI've added my husbands email address as a user on the desktop and accepted the invitation so that it doesn't show as pending
Yet, when I go to the laptop I can see the homegroup and the two computers that are in itI can see the network and the same two computersIf I click on the drives I get a no-permission error
Experienced this problem of losing wifi drivers after installing win 10, my hp laptop does not detect wifi but if I plug in ethernet cable the internet connection is sporadic.
Brought a new Dell laptop and came with windows 10 and i can't get it to connect to wifi. It worked perfectly at my mums, but at home it says wifi password incorrect when its not. I have updated drivers, disabled and enabled the wireless adapter. In command prompt i type ipconfig/renew it says no operation can be performed.
I just bought a new hard drive from best buy, its a western digital Blue 500gb hard drive, the old one was failing and causing windows to run slow so I bought this one to fix it. When I try to install the new OS into the blank hard disk it doesnt show up on the list, nothing does.
I upgraded my laptop from windows 7 to windows 10 with the free upgrade that came out a while back. I recently bought an Ethernet cord to enhance my gaming performance, but when I plug it in it says identifying for a little while then says unidentified network no Internet. My friend came over and tried it on his laptop and it worked for his Windows 8.1 . I have a Comcast router/modem combo and have it hooked to a western digital router which is what the Ethernet cord is run from.
I have an odd issue with my laptop since upgrading to Windows 10. The first time I boot I cannot connect to my home Wifi, however when I reboot I can. It is always the same every time I switch it on in that it will only connect on the second boot.
Been using this laptop since October with no issues. Upgraded to Win10 yesterday and now, every couple of hours, the laptop goes into airline mode. Once I was able to restore wifi in the settings area, but most of the time when you turn off (move the slider) to airline off, the wifi slider does not come on.
The keyboard method does nothing to restore wifi. My wife has had the same issue since upgrading two weeks ago.
Upon upgrading to W10 my laptops wireless was given an update from windows update which added new drivers for the wireless card.
Since this update my on-board WI-Fi is no longer functioning. The adapter is there, but it says there are no networks available. If i go to the wireless setting and attempt to click Wi-Fi to on it just flickers back and remains off.
The wireless adapter is now showing as "intel centrino wireless-N 1030" and it shows several other bluetooth devices which were not present before the update. The driver update seems to have introduced some new bluetooth functionality but the result is that it has disabled my Wi-Fi.
I have a workgroup on desktop and laptop both running windows 10 - it was functioning not long ago but recently stopped and i cant figure out why. i've pfoofed round so much trying to get it going again i've probably made it worse
I just want to access some files between computers and connect to printer attached to desktop
I can ping desktop from laptop but not reverse desktop to laptop - kaspersky is on both machines.
I tried setting up a homegroup but no luck there either - both machines can still access the internet thru netgear cgd24nv3.
