Networking :: NICs Slower After Upgrade (Ethernet And Wireless)
Dec 24, 2015
This didn't happen right away. They worked fine for a month or so. It is not the ISP, my ISP is very reliable, they consistently give me the bandwidth I am supposed to get. 20MB down 2MB up. The problem laptop averages 0.3MB down and 1.5MB up.
The other hosts on my home network are not having any problems. I have another Win 10 Machine that was upgraded from Win 7 that is working just fine. One Ubuntu client and one more Win 7 client.
Fixes I attempted:
I went to the HP website and applied the recommended updates.
Checked Microsoft updates - none were suggested or required.
I removed and readded the network adapter drivers. Several times.
The hardware in question is:
HP Envy 17t Laptop
OS: Windows 10 Pro Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.36)
Wireless:Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter driver: 6.223.215.14
Ethernet:Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Adapter driver: 10.1.505.2015

I have several computers, one laptop recently has a new problem. The internet network connection in the corner has a tiny yellow triangle and says the connection is limited and says it is NOT connected to the internet - even though it IS connected to the internet. It does this for both the wireless icon and the ethernet icon, so it can't be a driver issue.
I have rolled back the drivers, gone to the HP support site to get their drivers, updated to the latest drivers, and nothing gets rid of those triangles.
It's also not a router issue, because I have another computer on the same router with no problem on either the wifi or ethernet. I've done sfc /scannow in both safe mode and normal mode. I've looked for any errors and there are none. It is very annoying.

For a while, whenever I connect my wireless headphones using Bluetooth to my Windows 10 laptop, the internet goes a lot slower for an unknown reason.

So after 2 failed attempts at installing Windows 10 on an Acer Aspire Z5801 PC, I finally managed to succeed. However, a new problem appeared after installation. The Wireless network adapter went completely missing. Windows does not detect its existence at all, it's like the PC doesn't have one installed. It doesn't appear in Device manager + isn't listed as an "unknown device". It's simply not there at all.The wired network adapter is there, but not wireless.
Installing the driver from Acer's website - I had to select Windows 7 64-bit as the version is all that's available for my adapter.I used a USB stick to transfer the setup files to the Acer PC. It said it successfully installed but still didn't appear, even after a reboot.Used a USB wireless adapter (Netgear) to see if it was an issue with how Windows 10 handles Wi-Fi - nope, that installed and worked fine.Scanning for Windows updates after using the USB adapter. Some updates were found and installed (no driver ones though), but still no Wi-Fi.
In the end, I reverted back to Windows 7 and what do you know? The adapter got recognised again. The USB adapter isn't a viable solution since it's required by another PC. I just used it for testing purposes.

I just replaced my old router (Linksys WRT54G) to a Linksys x1000. However, my download speed is slower than the previous router I had. I tried the following things to resolve this problem:
Upgrading to the latest firmware version;Updated my wireless network card drivers to the latest version;Switching between different channels (channel 1 and 5 and default channel). I have set Network Mode to: Mixed and I set Channel Width to Automatic (20 or 40 MHz).
When using my old router I had an average download speed of 1 MB/sec while using the new router I can't get pas 500 KB/sec. In both cases I was sitting next to the router.
Oh, and by the way, there's also a port on the router named DSL. It looks like it doesn't matter whether I connect that port to my modem. How come? What's its function?

i recently updated to windows 10. I'm having some difficulties regarding internet through Ethernet on It. what usually happens is i am able to surf the Ethernet for around 10 minutes, then the ethernet adapter just quits on me. So i run the network trouble shooter and find you that it needs to reset the DNS, which it does successfully. After that my Ethernet doesn't work anymore till I restart the Laptop. my computer's wifi card is an intel wireless n 7260, and the other network adapter is a pcie gbe family controller.

I cannot seem to connect on Ethernet though Wi-Fi works OK. I have seen several articles about ethernet problems with Win10.
CABLING
First the network config:
Two notebooks, C and D are plugged into a switch and the switch plugged into the router. Now, the cabling is verified to work because computer C, running Win7 connects just fine and if the internet cables are swapped, computer C still connects just fine.
Computer D however does not connect. I did some other things to redundantly check too, just FYI.
So cabling looks OK.
ROUTER
both computers have fixed (reserved) IP addresses in the router.
The router sees computer C
but not computer D
Just FYI, if I turn on Wi-Fi, the router sees D on WiFi, but not the ethernet.
PING
Computer C can ping D
Computer D can ping C
Computer C can ping the router
Computer D cannot ping the router
Some investigation suggested the following, all of which I tried with no better results:
- Update the network adapter drivers (already current)
- Winsock posible culprit, so NETSH WINSOCK RESET and reboot - no change
IE used to find and fix these things pretty well, but here we have EDGE. Perhaps I'll try to install IE. Connectivity diagnostics are where IE shined over Chrome and Mozilla.
UPDATE: IE 9, 10, etc. are not compatible with Windows 10. So, the connectivity diagnostics just not as good in Win10. I can tell I am getting tired, as it's getting hard not to swear.
UPDATE: Added a pretty picture.

Yooooo! I have a Lenovo Y510p with modified BIOS so I could replace the crappy Intel wireless card that came with it (Intel Centrino N2230) for an Azurewave - Broadcom 4352. The experience has been good so far, the only problem I'm having is the low wireless signal with the card. I have other laptops that have higher range and strengths on the same place with older cards.
I've tried verifying (and even swapping) the cables and noted no difference. I asked on another forum and they told me that it could be that the card is not receiving enough power, but I have yet to find a settings in the BIOS or in Windows that dwindles its performance. I have recently updated the driver from Lenovo's website and it didn't improve a bit. How to improve the wireless signal?

I was wondering if it's possible to utilize both WiFi and ethernet in tandem. I'm pretty sure some of you are going to tell me that I can only access the internet through one of these, up to my bandwidth limit, but that's not what I mean.
I'd like to access the internet through my WiFi connection, yet have a wired connection through my router to access the files on the other computers in my house.

I am running Windows 10 demo version. I have problems connecting to the net. I am shown the error along the lines of "Ethernet does not have a valid IP configuration".
From command prompt I run "ipconfig/all" and here is the console's output:
When I run "ipconfig/renew" it fell through : I should add, I have no problems on Windows Vista however.

I ran Windows 8.1 on my desktop machine a few months ago, and later upgraded to Windows 10. Everything worked great at that time, but since have replaced Windows with Linux. Now I'm trying to install Windows again, with the same 8.1 disk that I used for my earlier installation, and my ethernet connection isn't found. (this is a direct wired ethernet, not wireless) I've installed with a local user account, dug into every networking utility in Windows, but whatever I do the internet goes undetected. I've run the ethernet thru different routers, and even circumvented the router all-together, but no luck. Has my 8.1 disk "expired"?

I started my PC in a new premises with a Wireless modem, I have two other PC's connected.
When I started the PC it saw the wireless network and the option came up to connect and there was a tick in the "Connect Automatically" box.
I selected OK but got a message "unable to connect".
I did not get the opportunity to enter the Password/Key.
Now the PC will not connect to the Network nor will and Diagnose and repair fix anything.
BTW the Ethernet adaptor has been disabled.
The laptop I am sending this from is next to the PC so the wireless signal is okay.

I've been having problems with my network drives which seems to have happened after a recent Windows 10 'update'
In device manager I stupidly deleted a number of Windows adaptors under the Gigabit network connection.
Now I just have the Red Cross over the Internet icon.
Ive tried reinstalling Intel drivers but they stop at 'installing network drivers for Intel 82579v Gigabit network connection'
I then get a message 'cannot install drivers - No Intel (R) adaptors are present in this computer'
motherboard is is a Gigabyte X79 UD3 running F20 Bios. The network adaptor is onboard.
I can't seem to figure out why the computer can't detect the adaptor.
There is no ethernet controller in the device manager? And the network and internet page in settings does not give an Ethernet connection option?

i've been with this problem for months and i have tried multiple solutions offered by others on the internet, yet i'll give it another try here.
i'm using a powerline adapter directly plugged into the wall on my desktop. And it has worked excellent before, but suddenly someday it did not get a valid IP adress anymore for my pc, i have tried giving it an ip adress manually but without succes. i also tried updating the driver but there was no update.
my network and sharing center displays unidentified network and windows problem solver detects the problem 'network name' does not have a valid ip configuration.

I have just bought an HP laptop running windows 10. I cannot connect to internet wirelessly as when I select my network connection it requests username and password. (Screen shot attached)I only have a network password for my connection and have never had or been requested for a username.
We have a couple of laptops at home and they connect with password only no problem. It is only this laptop that requests both. I can find no way past it and cannot connect. It connects via cable fine but thats obviously not ideal for portable laptop.

We have a new (albeit old) wireless printer (HP Color laserjet CP3525) with a wireless adapter card. Computers running Windows 7 or Windows 8 could see the network and connect. All computers could then print to the printer. None of our computers running Windows 8.1 could see the network. I upgraded one computer to Windows 10. It can now see the printer network but cannot connect.

When I first installed Win 10 it was working great got my wifi connection working and everything now it seems I cannot get connected. I have tried several times, putting it mildly. I put in the Modem/router address and password and then I go to the site that shows you the wifi connections and mine is not there. But there are about 10 or 12 that are there. I have tried this several times like I said. And I have rebooted to see if that did anything and it made no diff.
It seems from some of the reading I have done this might be a problem caused by an update. It worked great for several days. And while I am thinking of it can you delete all those other wi fi addresses some how.

I was unable to connect to an older (backup) AP in Win10, but Win7 and my phone, tablet etc could connect no problem - these were connecting using WPA-TKIP, but MS now only allows WPA2-AES
So MS have removed the less secure WPA-TKIP protocol from W10 (this apparently started in W8), but they have left the even less secure WEP protocol in place!!!
I have now connected using WEP - on my router you can use a passphrase to create the hex pairs for the key, but you need to enter the actual hex characters as the key (eg 13 hex digit pairs = 26 characters to enter)
Looking at the wlan profile from the command line interface shows what the settings are...
netsh wlan>show profile plusnet2
Profile PlusNet2 on interface Wireless Network Connection 4:

Applied: All User Profile
Profile information

Type : Wireless LAN
Name : PlusNet2

Connection mode : Connect automatically

Upgraded a client's Windows 8.1 machine to Windows 10 Pro today and it's now unable to "see" the HP OfficeJet 6600 wireless printer directly behind it. I've assigned the printer a static IP address and I CAN ping it AND print to it from a wireless computer in the back office. However, I can NOT either ping it or print to it from the front computer. The Add Printer wizard never sees it either.
The computer has both a wired Ethernet and a wireless adapter. Both are enabled and show up in IPCONFIG.

I am completely wiping my hardrive with DBAN and doing a clean install of windows 10 with a dvd I created with the media creation tool. Will the fresh installation of windows come with a driver for ethernet cable so I can get on the internet.
I know I can get the drivers and put them on a usb to use after install, but I'm having trouble with malware on other computer and I don't want to transfer anything. It is windows 10 home on a 64 bit Toshiba Satellite C55-C5241 if that matters.

So i currently have a MSI GT80 Titan running killer wireless 1525 network adapter and am constantly seeing network drops to the point where i get an exclamation mark over my wireless icon and no activity. Connection shows connected but no speed, only until i manually disconnect and reconnect. This has been happening since earlier this week after having the laptop off for a couple days and i'm sure some updates came in from Microsoft.
Steps I've taken already to resolve this:
1. Uninstalled killer wireless software suite and installed stand alone killer driver
2. Refreshed the PC with clean windows 10 install
3. All drivers are up to date including BIOS
4. Ran ccleaner along with registry side of it
5. Memtest shows no errors
6. Hard drives show no errors
7. Connected to LAN and no drops all day
I'm not sure what else to check as this is a fairly new laptop bought back in march and doing some searching on google showed some posts about people with the same issues (different laptops/hardware) thinking it was related to Windows 10.

I have been connecting my PC to my router via a Ethernet cable and have had no issues but I want to move the PC to another room and run it off a wireless adapter. I tried a TP-Link USB adapter but it didn't work so I switched it for a Netgear one. That doesn't work either which makes me think there is something not right with my PC. I have installed and uninstalled multiple times, tired different USB ports but the Wireless Adapter doesn't seem to get an IP address and there are no Wireless settings in the control panel. But there are no Wireless setting and no connectivity to the Adapter.
