Networking :: New Router But Slower Download Speed
Jan 28, 2016
I just replaced my old router (Linksys WRT54G) to a Linksys x1000. However, my download speed is slower than the previous router I had. I tried the following things to resolve this problem:
Upgrading to the latest firmware version;Updated my wireless network card drivers to the latest version;Switching between different channels (channel 1 and 5 and default channel). I have set Network Mode to: Mixed and I set Channel Width to Automatic (20 or 40 MHz).
When using my old router I had an average download speed of 1 MB/sec while using the new router I can't get pas 500 KB/sec. In both cases I was sitting next to the router.
Oh, and by the way, there's also a port on the router named DSL. It looks like it doesn't matter whether I connect that port to my modem. How come? What's its function?

I have an ASUS 2 speed router - it worked fine in Win 7, allowing me to target the 5.2 MHz stream toward my TV for streaming, and use the 2.5 MHz speed for the computers, tablets & phones.
Well, I lost my motherboard, and purchased a CPU with Windows 10. I cannot tell what the router is doing - Windows 10 seems to think I do not require this information, and will not allow me to even SEE the router settings, let alone change them. The stream to the TV seems fine - the CPU internet is slow.
Anyway - how I can access the router settings!

I have a peculiar issue with wifi on Windows 10. My computer shows a wifi link speed of 270 Mbps and i have tested the same by sending huge files over my network. Now the issue is that i strongly believe that something in Windows 10 is throttling the internet speeds drastically. I am only getting half of the subscribed download speeds on my Windows 10. I have other devices/phones connected to the same wireless network and they are getting full speeds!
I have tried several things but i am unable to achieve full download speeds on my Windows 10. This has been affecting me for the past around 15 days. Prior to that things used to be normal.

I do not know why, but ever since (thats when I started downloading again) I have upgraded from windows 8.1 to windows 10, downloading is really difficult. when I was still using 8.1, I used Orbit downloader to download my files, but since I have upgraded to windows 10, all apps were lost, and for some reason I cant download Orbit again.
Now I have been switching from on Download manager to the other, from Eagle Get, IDM, Jdownloader. still my download speed SUCK, it is slow as a turtle. but when I am playing online games it is fine, my ping is good, when I am streaming videos it is also fast. but when it comes to downloading IT IS SLOW. why ? is it because of the download manager ? I remember updating my Battlefield 4 and the speed is good. but now, it so slow.

This didn't happen right away. They worked fine for a month or so. It is not the ISP, my ISP is very reliable, they consistently give me the bandwidth I am supposed to get. 20MB down 2MB up. The problem laptop averages 0.3MB down and 1.5MB up.
The other hosts on my home network are not having any problems. I have another Win 10 Machine that was upgraded from Win 7 that is working just fine. One Ubuntu client and one more Win 7 client.
Fixes I attempted:
I went to the HP website and applied the recommended updates.
Checked Microsoft updates - none were suggested or required.
I removed and readded the network adapter drivers. Several times.
The hardware in question is:
HP Envy 17t Laptop
OS: Windows 10 Pro Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.36)
Wireless:Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter driver: 6.223.215.14
Ethernet:Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Adapter driver: 10.1.505.2015

I did a search and only found hits referring to a metered and/or WiFi connection, neither of which applies to me.
I have only a (nominal) 2Mbps connection -- which is the fastest available in my neighborhood. This has been a problem with Windows updates all along, but since I've upgraded to Win10, the trouble is exacerbated to the point that the internet is sometimes unusable when I'm getting an update from MS. This is especially problematic in that my spouse works online for a living, so MS eating up the bandwidth affects her job directly.
So, my question is in two parts:
1. Is there any setting whereby I can limit the download speed of the Windows updates? I don't wish to defer or stop any, just make them very low priority for bandwidth.
2. Is there any setting/switch I can toggle that will show (like the old flag icon in Win7) that there are Windows Updates downloading, so that I can tell whether any internet sluggishness is because of Windows or just the connection itself (which, living here the Third World, is far from constant). I'm hoping to document these fluctuations for an ongoing attempt to get better service from our ISP.
I realize this isn't really the place to lodge a complaint with Microsoft, but it sure would be nice if they (and other international software companies) would consider those of us who do not live in Redmond, Chattanooga, or other places with light-speed internet connections when they set things up.

I got an aorus x5 about 1 week ago which came with windows 8.1 which I immediatly upgraded to windows 10, but the internet dowload speeds are incredibly slow purely on that laptop, I have tested the internet speeds using speedtest.net and on my old laptop (an msi gp60 2pe) I am getting 40.23 mbps download and 7.67 mpbs upload with a ping of 17ms on firefox, on my phone (a sony xperia z3) I am getting ping 20ms, download of 26.96mbps and upload of 8.84mbps on their app, and on my aorus I am getting anything from 0.01mbps to 4.36 mbps dowload and 8.67mbps to 8.92mbps upload with a ping of 9-14ms, having tested with edge, ie, firefox, chrome and opera. I am not running any amd hardware and I have disabled bandwith control through killer network manager, however at the time of writing when I test through killer I got 4.98 and through firefox I get 1.42 (both use speedtest.net), so I would assume it is a regulator of some sort, but I can't find one anywhere. I also get reasonable speeds through steam (around 11mbps) but it is quite a way off the 35 mbps down and 7mbps up I am supposed to get

If I tranfere big files and lots of them internally in my HDD Drive, I have noticed that if I play a videofile at the same time it will lag. I understand this is because the internal write and read speed is overloaded because of the file transfere.
What I want to know is, will the file transfere also slow down my download to the same drive, since the filetransfere is using almost all of the write speed?

i have been suffering slow WiFi speeds for a while now and sky have replaced my router.
I have two computers both running windows 10 with the latest build
Now since i started with this router i have lost my home network and i have not changed anything on the computer
Some times i can see my other computer but not able to connect to it. sometimes i can see nothing. sometimes i can see the sky router and sometimes not.
My network is set to private on both computers and file and printing is turned on.
All i have done is plugged in a new router.
Sometimes i can see on my network a device called AirTies WAP what is this.
After doing a google search i found that AirTies WAP is something to do with my Sky wireless booster. is that right.
I am not able to see the other computer it says error 0x80070035

I have three computers wired to my D-Link DSL-504T modem/router.
Since upgrading two of my PCs to Widows 10 Pro (activated, clean install) I can no longer get reliable access to my routers configuration screen (192.168.1.1) through these PCs, although my third computer that is still running WinXP has no problem at all. Internet access on all three computers is unaffected and works perfectly.
The two W10 computers get to the router login screen, accept my username and password and then try and display the next status page whereupon the following happens:
Firefox: Stops with 'The connection was reset' error
Edge and Internet Explorer: Sit waiting forever (or as long as I'm prepared to wait!)
Chrome: Occasionally displays part of the status page, but mostly just sits there waiting.
The WinXP PC just sails along, displaying every page instantly and putting two fingers up to its more modern brethren!
I've reset the router and that makes no difference. I've turned off the Windows firewall and that makes no difference. It can't be my AV software (NOD32) as that is only running on one of the W10 PCs. I've flushed the DNS and tried just about everything I can think of and still the two W10 machines fail.

Up until recently Ive had a steady and stable internet connection on all devices, however recently on one laptop the connection is now incredibly slow (multiple tests on bandwidthplace.com show download speeds of 0.1 Mbps while on another laptop connected to the same connection shows over 7mbps). Connection to my android phone works fast too, I don't know what is making this happen, Ive tried resetting the router, refreshing the connection, releasing/renewing the ip. Not sure what to do here, as I don't have this problem connected to other networks, and other devices on this network aren't experiencing the same issues.
I also updated to the latest available driver from my manufacturer's website and I'm not 100% sure if I have all the latest windows updates since the connection is barely sustained, but I believe I do as I frequently manually check for updates in addition to automatic updates being enabled.

I've been experiencing an issue regarding opening up any web pages whatsoever for almost a week now. I have tried everything I can possibly think of, contacted my ISP, reset my router, updated the router firmware, tested my connection with a different router, run cmd to flush dns, reset log, you name it. Every device I connect via WiFi doesn't work either but the strangest of all is that my torrents downloads at its optimal download speed. I cannot understand what the problem is.
I did however test my router on a friend's adsl line and it gave the same problem whereas he's router wasn't giving any problems. I then decided that my router was at fault but then I did a test with a spare router to find the same problem - shows that there is a Internet connection, I am able to connect any device via WiFi and make use of my social networks but as far as browsing the web is concerned, whether it be on my desktop, laptop, phone, I just am not able to do that. My Antivirus is unable to update, my windows isn't updating, nothing works except for being able to use Facebook and twitter and whatsapp. I was concerned that 2 different routers could have the ecat same problem.

I just updated to Windows 10 but I think the problem was with Windows 8 too, Sometimes my internet is out on my PC while the internet is still up on my brothers PC, tho this problem happens about 3 times a very few days.. We have 5+ computers in the house and 4 are on daily while 3 is being used daily the 4th one is not very used daily and sometimes off most of the time. So the 2 computers have Windows 10 and 3rd computer has Windows 7 while the 4th computer has Windows 10 also. I read on an article which says that Windows 10 uses bandwidth without you know and I checked task manager and on windows 8 my CPU and Memory was just fine and when I upgraded to Windows 10 my CPU spiked to about 20% and Memory spiked to about 72% and sometimes random numbers appear on all 4 sections( CPU, Memory, Disk, Network).

I am on 64 bit Windows 10 Pro 10586.29. Before the last 2 updates, my system, with a 512GB SSD would shut down in 4 to 5 seconds. Since the last 2 updates, it has gone from a very fast 5 seconds to about 15 to 20 seconds.

Have upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 a few times already and keep going back to Win 7 'cause it system slows down (start up and shutdown) after second reboot on Win 10.
It takes about 30 seconds to load on Win with all kinds of installed programs. Win 10 takes at least twice the amount and i have barely loaded anything yet.

Whenever I'm installing a big game(say 28GB), Windows 10 gets bogged down and sluggish. I can't even watch movies without them getting slowed down every now and then. Whatever program/folder I double-click takes a lot longer to open up. I don't recall this happening on Windows 7 Ultimate. Why is this happening?

Phenom II X4 945
