Networking :: Only See One Folder On Another PC?
Jan 2, 2016
I can only see one folder, of many, on one of the other PCs I'm creating a mapped drive for.
This has been an intermittent problem. Usually disconnect and reconnect fixes it, but not now.

My network is really simple. A win10 laptop and a win10 desktop. The desktop has a couple of hard drives and the laptop needs to see one of them.
At various times it's all been good but then something mysterious happens and we're back to square one.
So I've set up a homegroup and both computers belong to itI've set up sharing so that the homegroup can read/writeI've added my husbands email address as a user on the desktop and accepted the invitation so that it doesn't show as pending
Yet, when I go to the laptop I can see the homegroup and the two computers that are in itI can see the network and the same two computersIf I click on the drives I get a no-permission error

I Upgraded to Windows 10 two days ago, I shared one of the folders on my desktop and now I can't close the share.
When I click stop sharing on both the ribbon and the context specific menu, after I right click the folder, nothing happens.

I have two windows 10 pro computers. first computer has a folder on the root of the C drive that i want to access from the second computer- both on the same wifi network, same workgroup, set to private network in windows- no homegroups set up.
I can enable sharing of the folder, but i can't select the user account from the second computer that i want to have access to the folder- when i try to select the user account (from the second computer), i can only see the local computer accounts- how do i set access for a specific user account on the second computer?
I'm pretty sure i remember this being more easily done back on windows 7, but honestly it's been awhile since i've needed to set up folder shares.

I've got a problem in stopping sharing some folders across my home network. Not sure if it matters, but I'm on Windows 10 Pro, running my admin user account.
Anyways, I have a folder I want to unshare from my network called Pictures2 which I believe is empty. The problem is I don't seem to have access to it even though it seems to originate from my PC.
While I was able to unshare the 'Videos2' folder by going into the Properties normally, I can't stop sharing 'Pictures2' from my network even though my computer is the one sharing it. Double-clicking gives a "Windows cannot access XXX" error.
I did notice a difference between these folders which may or may not be important - The Pictures2 folder doesn't have an owner (either that or it can't display it in advanced security settings) while the Videos2 owner was SYSTEM.
My user account was in the 'shared' list of both these two folders which is strange, as I couldn't access Pictures2 but could access Videos2.
Honestly I don't know how or when they were even created and I can't find them on my local drive if they're even meant to be there.
I tried using the manual cmd method suggested in another thread but get this:
I would like this Pictures2 folder unshared, and if I know where it's located on my PC I can delete it too.

I have a strange issue on my Windows 10 computer: I can only see 1 computer under my home network, but other computers do not appear at all. However, I can access them fine typing in the address bar manually.
Also, for some reason, "LEESERVERPC" does not appear on my network folder, but it appears on the left pane. Is this a Windows 10 issue? Other computers are running Windows Server 2012R2 or Windows 7 and they easily find all computers in the network. I rebooted and resetted my router countless number of times. Refreshing doesn't seem to do anything.
Background: Originally, my Windows 10 computer was seeing all the computers in the network. As I was trying to set up another computer on the network, I refresh my network several times from my Windows 10 computer, and all a sudden all the computers except 1 disappeared on my Windows Explorer "Network". Every other computer in the network has no issues.
See Pic:
I want to emphasize that I CAN ACCESS the shared network computers. It's just that Windows Explorer's "Network" does not show most of the computers!

scanned through the 250 odd titles that came up but could not find reference to relocating the offline files folder. I frequently take an image of the system drive as a backup but, with an ever increasing offline folder (windowscsc), this is getting unworkable so I want to move the folder to my data drive (D:).
I've tried using a symbolic link to a folder on the C drive (as I've successfully done with the OneDrive folder) but win10 seems to object and stops working.
Surprisingly, with google there's loads of references to doing this with previous versions of windows but I can't find anything Win10 specific. Any reliable way of relocating the csc folder?

I have two machines running Windows 10 "ermintrude and dougal" and I want my home folder on each to be shared with the other on my home network. dougal can see my home folder on ermintrude, but not the other way round. I have been through all the advanced sharing settings on each machine and compared them, and I have done the same for the sharing settings for each home folder, but I cannot find any difference between them. They are identical. Each is set to share as owner using the same Hotmail address as login and the same password. As I said, I cannot find anything different between the two configurations.

So I bit the bullet and "upgraded" my laptop from Windows 7 to 10. I expected to find a few things that didn't work anymore, but not so soon as this. I keep it in sync with my desktop PC (running XP) by net-sharing its hard drive, with permission for full control granted to its "administrators" group. I mount it on my desktop PC, where I have the same username and password for my primary administrator account. When it ran Windows 7 this all worked well, but now whenever I try to list or open its files I get "Access is denied."
Interestingly, I still can access the hard drive on my desktop PC while sitting at my laptop. It is only the vice-versa that fails, accessing the hard drive on my laptop PC while sitting at my desktop.
On my laptop, Windows Firewall is "off" for private networks, and it considers my home network to be "private."

Starting with the Redstone insider previews, my HP mediasmart home server works for automatic backups, and I can open the server console to manage the server. But it is impossible to map a folder on the WHS to a drive.; none of the shared folders on the WHS are visible, and the homes server is not visible under network. Troubleshooting indicates a missing protocol, but has no solution. Everything works fine on the no-preview PCs on the network. I am concerned that MS is abandoning the WHS and am worried about future official updates.

From one of my Windows 10 machines I am unable to access the shared folders on the other. The troubleshooter says "One or more network protocols are missing on this computer" and "Windows Sockets registry entries required for network connectivity are missing."
I have run sfc /scannow, but no problems were found. I don't get the problem when sharing in the other direction or when accessing the shared folders on the same machine.
This comes amidst a cluster of sharing-related problems. Before the reboot after which the present problem manifested itself, shares going in the other direction were invisible in the network browser (but could be accessed via the search bar). Also, the machine in question does not appear in the HomeGroup browser even though it is a member of the HomeGroup.

My 'documents' folder suddenly got moved into another folder named 'Doctor Web.' Looking into this, I find that Doctor Web is a piece of security software originating in Russia, apparently quite respectable, but it's not something I ever installed. According to its properties, the Doctor Web folder was created in 2014, but it wasn't on my computer two days ago when a backup I ran had no errors. Today, it choked on the new folder. I'm attaching a screen grab to illustrate the situation.
My question is, is there some method by which I can move the 'documents' folder from the 'Doctor Web' folder. put it back where it belongs and delete the 'Doctor Web' folder? I have access to all my documents, but I am not at all happy with them being spontaneously moved like this. Al

I tried to take screenshots via the WinKey+PrtSc and the Fn+WinKey+PrtSc method. As expected, the screen briefly dimmed and then reestablished normal illumination as you would expect when taking a screenshot with previous Windows OS-es. (No functionality at all apparent via Ctrl+ WinKey+ PrtSc.) When I went to locate the screenshots in C:Users*****Pictures, there was no "Screenshots" folder. I tried searching for the folder and for the screenshots to no avail (though my search skills are rather novice, so I may have missed some obvious way to locate the missing folder). Screenshots will save to the clipboard through the two operable methods above and can be pasted to Paint. I tried visually searching numerous folders and hidden folders for the screenshots, to no avail.
So, I looked in the registry and found:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer
The ScreenshotIndex DWORD value is "3".In Win8, from what I have found trying to understand and solve this issue, you would also find an expandable string at this location: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerUserShellFolders.It required value data which pointed to the pictures folder (%USERPROFILE%PicturesScreenshots). There was no such expandable string value present in my User Shell Folders location. I never had this problem in Windows 8/8.1 and I realize things may be done very differently in Windows 10, so I didn't add the expandable string that the tutorial I was reading referenced in order to to fix this problem in Windows 8.

We use a lot of VPN PPTP Connections. On most we turn off "Use default gateway on remote network". See the image below that shows where this setting is turned off.
We cannot open the properties for Internet Protocol Version 4 on VPN connections under Windows 10. This is located at Network Connections and Properties of a VPN Connection. Networking Tab, then select Internet Protocol Version 4 and click Properties. But under Win 10 the properties dialog does not open.
This has been tested on several Windows 10 systems and we have enabled Administrator and tested under that login as well.

After the major Windows 10 upgrade that happened I think in late November to early December of 2015 my network connection started dropping periodically. This is wired connection directly to my router and I've done all the netsh winsock reset and other solutions listed all over the internet, but like clock work I lose internet connection to just my desktop. All my wireless devices continue to work just fine. When I select repair connection I get the error of protocols are missing. The adapter has a visual status of identifying network. I thought it was a DHCP issue, but it still happens with a static IP address. This so frustrating as the only thing that fixes it is a reboot and then it seem like the clock resets for another 24 hours. I've tried going to device manager and updating drivers but it tells me the drivers are up to date. I've uninstall the drivers and allowed the OS to reinstall them to no avail. I've even deleted the adapter and restarted and allow it to find the hardware and re-add the driver and none of this seem has fixed the problem.

I have several PCs at home as well as music streaming devices such as Pure Sensia and Freecom MusicPal. The PCs run a mix of Windows 7 HP and Ultimate all 64bit. I use Serviio to share music to the streaming devices and PCs. The PCs all use password protected network shares, and I selectively share certain folders from different PCs to enable both simple file sharing and backup which are simple script driven processes.
All has been working reliably for years until (Dum-Dum-Dum!) Windows 10...
A new laptop arrives with Windows 10 preinstalled.
I've got it up and running but cannot work out how to add Microsoft cloud accounts, such as those directly linked to OneDrive, onto the windows 7 PCs to enable password protected sharing to and from this new laptop.
The accounts have the same usernames on each flavour of windows PC, but the windows 10 version also has an email.

My recent documents folder contains a mystery folder named CustomDestinations. The files are variable size, in the low kB range. The filenames are undecipherable as far as I can see. Here is a typical one:
5afe4de1b92fc382.customDestinations-ms
Clicking Open With is not instructive, and kind of implies I need to go to the apps store to find something to open them. Can I get rid of them safely?(I use Classic Shell if that may be relevant to the question but the ms suffix kind of tells me no,)

I am using Windows 10, and I am trying to copy one folder to another folder using File Explorer. If I click on a file folder, I find that the "Copy to" and "Move to" icons are both greyed out. The only option that I find available is the moving or copying of individual files. I need to move folders with a lot of files and sub-directories in them.
